Milan Fashion Week: Celeb FROW Style

Milan Fashion Week follows London Fashion Week so it has a lot to live up to! Its appeal is that the shows feature beautiful tailoring with luxurious fabrics with Italian designers experimenting with new prints and new cottons and silks.

Celebrities love looking at ways they can stand out from the crowd and so the fashion shows have attracted a number of well-known famous faces. The FROW is almost as well-dressed as the models on the catwalk sas not only have the celebs made the effort to get on a plane to attend the shows, they’ve clearly spent ages thinking about what they’d wear knowing that the cameras are always on the FROW.

Want an outfit that gets you noticed for the right reasons? Let’s have a look at what some of the celebs wore on the FROW:

Ellie Goulding

Ellie looked bright and beautiful in the eye-catching colours of red and white. The red dress is made out of a lovely silky material and the white jacket appears to be made from plastic. The white sunglasses add the A’list edge – she looks fabulous!

Bella and Gigi Hadid

The supermodel sisters look as good on the FROW as they do on the catwalk. Bella has a more edgy style with a crop top and a leather skirt, while older sister Gigi opted for classic tailoring with formal black trousers and a smart blouse. Which sister’s style do you prefer?

Lottie Moss

Kate Moss’s younger sister has inherited her sister’s innate sense of style. Her black maxi dress featured both a floral print and a gorgeous lace fabric. Italians are setting the standard high in terms of colour and prints.

Olivia Palermo

The American socialite is the perfect example of smart casual in all situations and at Milan she erred on the smarter side of causal. However, she shows that you can wear a suit anywhere and you can make it look cooler for day with sunglasses and flat shoes. I love her style!

Jourdan Dunn

Jourdan Dunn made prints work for her by wearing a mini skirt and showing off her lovely long legs. If you want to enhance a part of your body that you love then wear a print. The lace up ankle boots help to lengthen her legs even further.

Sofia Richie

Justin Bieber’s ex girlfriend is moving on by looking incredible in Milan. Looking fantastic is the best form of revenge to an ex and her black lace dress looks divine. She won’t be single for long!

Adriana Lima

The Victoria’s Secret model looked chic and elegant in a cut-out white midi dress. Monochrome is always an eye-catching look and Adriana wears it well. The slicked back hair adds even more drama to the look as it makes the lines of the dress stand out more. Bodycon dresses are perfect for the party season!

Meet Mya & Jack, our Very own Toy Team

Have you met Mya & Jack our Toy Team at Very? Head over to their page now and find out what they have to say about this seasons top toys at Very. They have been super busy trying out every toy and they are here to reveal all to help you find the perfect toy for your little one. Find out below a snapshot of what they had to say about some of the toy’s they tested.

The first toy to be reviewed was the Barbie Ultimate Puppy Mobile. Mya checked this one out and her favourite thing was how it easily transformed from a vehicle into a puppy playground for all the puppies to play in. The tropical details are really cute, but not as cute as the puppies! She couldn’t wait to grab her Barbie doll and set off on her adventures in the puppy mobile.

The Meccano 25 model set was right up Jack’s street. With 25 different models and 260+ metal parts to create and build, it kept him entertained for hours. He liked how fast the motor was so he could watch his model move forwards and backwards across the floor.

The next toy that Mya tested out was the Leapfrog Leapstart Interactive Learning System. Mya found learning with Leapfrog so fun as it was packed with so many different features. She thought it would be perfect for younger children looking to learn all about school and life skills. The system works with lots of different activity books so Mya never got bored.

The final toy we are talking you through that the toy team loved is the Playdoh town 3 in 1 town centre. Mya got really creative in the 3 different places she could play. She loved building different playdoh adventures in the florist, restaurant and mechanic shop. So much fun and so much playdoh!

To check out all the other reviews of the top toys from the Toy Team then head over to their page now and explore lots more from big toy brands like Fisher Price, Kinetic Sand, My Little Pony, Hot Wheels, Thomas and friends and Bob the Builder.

London Fashion Week SS17: Celebs on the FROW

London Fashion Week is more creative than any of the other global fashion weeks in Milan, Paris and New York. It’s also way more star-studded as celebrities from the music and acting worlds flock to the FROW to check out the new season trends and dress in their best outfits from this season. If a designer has loaned them a dress for an awards ceremony or party then they have to show their support by attending a show and other lesser-known celebs are trying to get in with the designer for a future loan. It’s a circus, but a glamorous one!

It’s both fun and useful to see what the celebs wore to the shows as these are current creations and we can copy them right now! We have to wait for a while before we can start to imitate what we see on the catwalks, and who has time to do that? There were tons of well-dressed celebs every day, but these are my top 10:

Victoria Beckham at Vogue’s Voice of a Century book launch

Victoria Beckham cosied up to British Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman while looking dressed for business in a blue trouser suit. It’s power dressing at it’s finest! Trouser suits are the new jumpsuits when it comes to party fashion.

Olivia Palermo at Pringle

The New York socialite and former star of The City looked ready for autumn in her seasonal brown knitwear and midi skirt. Olivia is the Queen of dressed down chic as she looks smart without looking as if she’s tried to hard. This outfit suits her perfectly.

Lily James at Burberry

The Cinderella actress took a bit of a risk in this silk blue maxi dress as it looks a bit like nightwear, but she could always sleep in it if she gets tired. It’s refreshing to see a celeb do something a bit different though and she adds bed-hair for the full effect. If you’re going to try a trend then embrace it as you need to do the whole thing or nothing at all.

Cara Delevingne at Burberry

This could also double as a very cool Halloween outfit as Cara looked spookily pretty at the Burberry show. Her black mini dress shows off her lovely legs, but it’s the make-up that adds the drama with a lot of eyeliner. What do you think?

Jenna Coleman at Burberry

Jenna’s starring in one of the most popular TV shows of the moment, Victoria, and she’s glowing. I love the dark red trousers, which are a bit different from what everyone else was wearing and they’d be brilliant for the party season as you could go from work to a party in them without having to get changed. The navy coat goes perfectly.

Donna Air at Burberry

Now it’s autumn, it’s time to get out the leather look leggings again as Donna looked fabulous in hers. When worn with ankle boots and a formal black coat, you’re ready for anything in leather leggings.

Alexa Chung at Burberry

Alexa looked very sparkly and Christmassy in a sequin dress. We saw at the Emmys that sequins are making a comeback and they certainly brightened up Alexa’s look. When you’re wearing sequins, you never have to worry about accessories as they have enough shine on their own.

Poppy Delevingne at Erdem

Cara’s older sister Poppy also channeled Autumn with her LFW outfit and I loved the brown suede skirt, which would look gorgeous with boots all season long. Stripes are always cool and I like how Poppy’s gone for grey and red instead of the traditional blue and white. It’s very chic!

Daisy Lowe at Christopher Kane

The new star of Strictly Come Dancing looked elegant and sophisticated in a black pleated midi skirt, which she wore with a white t-shirt. The skirt is very formal, but the t-shirt makes it suitable for everyday wear and Daisy looks very cool in this outfit. Daisy makes her own fashion rules and pulls it off as she has attitude.

Jourdan Dunn at LOVE Magazine x Marc Jacobs’ party

Wow, talk about colour! It’s nice to see that colour, along with sequins, is making a comeback. Jourdan’s multi-colour mini dress shows off her long legs and makes her feel ready to party. You can see by the pout on her face that she’s happy with what she’s wearing and that it gives her confidence. Colourful outfits cheer everyone up.

I can’t believe fashion week is over! Has it given you any inspiration?

From Catwalk to Your Collection With V by Very

Fashion week’s fresh silhouettes and fabrics have a knack for leaving us with a thirst for all-new-everything. What quenching news then, that Very (and in particular, V by Very) has a line-up of runway-inspired pieces you’ll want to wear on repeat, all season long. Key themes for your Pinterest board: blush pink, gothic glamour, heritage punk and a coat (because, you know, cold). Here’s a little teaser of the fashion coming your way soon.

Blush Pink

From catwalk…

It would almost seem we were viewing the models through rose-tinted lenses on the AW16 catwalks, as delicate shades of blush proved unmissable. Designers brought its feminine appeal to life through swathes of liquid silk fabrics (Roksanda), ethereal ruffles and frills (Alexander McQueen) and shine-bright sequins (Holly Fulton).

To your collection…

Work the blush-toned theme into your wear-everywhere collection with lightweight knits, wide-leg trousers and 3D florals.

Gothic Glamour

From catwalk…

While whispers of gothic drama have permeated fashion of late, the catwalks brought full-on rebellious glamour to the forefront. This was seen through off-beat silhouettes (Christopher Kane), sheer panelling (Mulberry) and rich black velvet (Topshop Unique).

To your collection…

Go hell for leather with PU dresses and fierce block heels or tap into the softer side with romantic ruffles, feather-weight fabrics and draped silhouettes. We take our sartorial cues from Game of Thrones’ Khaleesi. Platinum blonde hair optional, leave the dragon at home.

Heritage Punk

From catwalk…

Iconic punk style is updated with British heritage influences this season. Mulberry’s catwalks showcased tactile checked fabrics and ruffled shirting, punctuated with studs and braces, while Le Kilt brought Scottish heritage to the forefront with tartan mini skirts.

To your collection…

Anything-but-dainty block heeled boots and checked fabrics are the order of the day here. Subvert the attitude-packed vibe with smart tailored silhouettes, or go grunge with fluid fabrics and faux leather jackets.

Coats

From catwalk…

Of course the onset of autumn and winter calls for a coat update. One you can layer over everything will be a power player in your wardrobe for the foreseeable. On the catwalk, Burberry adorned the iconic trench with 70’s snake print, while Prada’s patchwork of rich brocades were impossible not to take note of. Luxed-up leather with hits of colour were the order of the day for Celine and the indisputable stars of the show were bomber jackets, macs and military coats.

To your collection…

Alongside a host of trench coats, leather-look jackets and macs, V by Very works all the catwalk trends into your outwear edit in the form of 80’s leopard print, faux fur fabrics and sporty bomber jackets.

Which are your favourite pieces? Keep an eye out for them as they start dropping on Very soon.

V by Very Designer on the Journey of Your Clothes

It’s a dream job for many: travelling through time zones for cultural inspiration, gaining the first glimpse of new-season silhouettes and fabrics, and scouring markets for one-off finds. V by Very Designer Holly Clare is living that dream – I caught up with her to discover where she finds inspiration, how she got into fashion design and how your clothes go from first sketch to final stitch…

First of all, where do you get your design inspiration from?

We find inspiration from loads of sources; vintage markets, global shopping, runways, magazines, popular culture, celebrity culture…

How long roughly does it take to design an item?

Roughly, it takes eight months from trend concept to delivery. However, we are working hard to react faster and smarter, so in some areas we can go from sketch to delivery in six weeks.

What steps are involved in designing a product?

We begin by researching current trends within the market place and then start creating mood boards, looking at suitable colour palettes based on our findings. Next, we shop the trend boards, visit vintage markets to discover key shapes and prints and we take trips to overseas cities of interest for inspiration.

Once we have a firm idea of what we’re aiming for, we sketch out the item and include swatches of fabric, before visiting our fabrics in FE to ensure the design interpretation is correct. Once we receive the sample, we get approval from the heads of our department and then the product goes online for the customer to buy.

How did you get into fashion design?

I’ve always had a keen interest in fashion. With a love for shopping and creating my own individual look at school, this led me into a fashion design course and it all went from there really.

What’s the best bit about your job?

Creating a garment that loads of people purchase and then seeing it worn in ‘real life’. Travel is an amazing buzz too!
