Celeb Spotting At Cosmo’s Self Made Summit

Sometimes we all need a bit of motivation and self-belief to get out of a rut and start aiming higher. And when we’re surrounded by inspirational and successful women, it’s a lot easier to believe that anything is possible. At Cosmopolitan Magazine’s first ever careers summit, sponsored by Very and attended by business leaders, entrepreneurs, and celebrities who have set up their own businesses, the atmosphere was electric!

The speakers let us into their worlds, firing us up into believing that we could change our lives. The job market is tough right now but the goal of the summit was to show us how well we’re already doing simply by surviving and hoping and to help everyone take big strides towards achieving their dreams.

Fashion Queen Olivia Palermo rarely gives interviews – she’s usually seen and not heard – but she shared some key style tips and talked about her journey. She’s a great example of how dressing smartly can help you get where you want to be and looked super cool on stage in a checked trouser suit with a black waistcoat. She’s always been a big fan of layering and it’s a flattering outfit.

Another lady who always looks appropriate for her job is Caroline Flack. On TV, she has a signature style of shorts, which has become her look. At the Cosmo self-made summit, where she interviewed vlogger Alfie Deyes, she looked fantastic in boyfriend jeans with a black blazer. She’s one of us and she dresses to reflect that.

The event featured a lot of the best bloggers and vloggers, who are all self-made. They’ve created their own careers and explained how they did that. Louise Pentland from Sprinkle of Glitr not only looked fabulous in a pink midi dress in the colour of the Cosmo and Very pink, but she was enthusiastic and motivating and made everyone who wasn’t already vlogging, question why they weren’t.

Between the pink lights was a great spot to take those all important Instagram selfies and Made in Chelsea star turned fashion blogger Rosie Fortescue posed in the same spot to show off her grey trouser suit after her Q&A. She’s an example of someone who started one career in TV but always had a dream to be in fashion and turned her life around.

But one of the most entertaining talks was by comedienne and TV presenter Katherine Ryan. She’s so quick-witted, she had most of the audience howling in their seats as well as making everyone feel uplifted and ready to conquer the world. How cool is the print of her bold, multi-colour dress?

Between the talks and networking opportunities, attendees checked out the latest collections and put together their dream new look.

This was Cosmo’s first ever self-made summit but judging by the packed rooms in London’s County Hall and the happy faces everywhere, there will be more. Stay tuned!

The Daily Front Row Awards: Best Dressed

The Daily Front Row fashion website has hosted an annual awards ceremony to honour it’s favourite models, designers, actresses and TV stars for the past four years and each year it’s bigger and better.

As it takes place in LA, the weather is always fabulous and so it’s a great insight into spring / summer party fashion. Some guests go all out with maxi dresses, but others show off their legs in mini dresses with killer heels – there’s a real mix.

Got any nights out planned? Let’s have a closer look at some of the best dressed:

Rebecca Romijin

The actress made use of monochrome to stand out – her jumpsuit looked fabulous from all angles. Having a block stripe at the side of an outfit can be slimming as it makes your body look smaller from the front and back. As white is the main colour and black is the secondary colour, it’s light and uplifting and very summery.

Kim Kardashian

Kim channelled bridal wear in her white maxi dress, but if you can’t make a statement at a fashion awards ceremony, when can you? She’s over the top and she’s owning it! What do you think?

Fergie

The Black Eyed Peas singer has gorgeous lean but strong legs, so she showed off her best assets in a long sleeve black mini dress. The ruffle detail on the shoulders and on her bottom make it that little bit different from a regular black dress and her embellished black sandals are stunning. Fergie does fashion just as well as she does music.

Lily Aldridge and Stella Maxwell

These two Victoria’s Secret models are used to posing for photos but they stepped it up a gear in their lace maxi dress and sequin maxi dress. It’s only when you feel confident in your outfit and know you look gorgeous that you can pose like this. Maxi dresses do help us to feel more glamorous as they’re only worn on special occasions so when we have one on, we know we’re ready.

Hailey Baldwin

If Hailey’s beige bodycon midi dress wasn’t gorgeous enough, check out those over the knee boots. The model / actress has made great use of colour, using contrasting shades that we wouldn’t normally put together. She’s also got suede boots with a woollen dress and the contrasting textures also works. Clashing is the new matchy, matchy!

Paris Jackson

Michael Jackson’s model daughter is totally a star in her own right in this bold printed mini dress with barely there sandals. She doesn’t need any accessories as her gorgeous blonde hair and captivating blue eyes are really piercing and she has a fabulous figure. If you know what your best assets are, why not show them off?

Nicki Minaj

Nicki always takes risks with fashion but she was quite conservative for her in a black tuxedo style dress. At first glance, it looked like it had been embellished with tassles but then examine the picture closer an you’ll see it’s hair. This time, she’d taken risks with her grooming rather than the outfit – even Nicki doesn’t go all out in all areas.

Who do you think looked the most glam?

CinemaCon: Celebrity Outfit Inspiration

CinemaCon is the largest and most important gathering for the film industry. Taking place in a giant convention centre in Las Vegas, it’s not as glamorous as one of the film festivals of Cannes, Venice or Toronto, but it’s where the deals are done and networking takes place on a grand scale.

It’s always very star studded as all the major film studios attend to promote their upcoming releases and they take the actors and actresses of those films along for Q&As on stage. It’s one never ending procession of glamorous celeb after glamorous celeb – there’s always a lot for us to look at! Even better is that it’s a daytime event so the celebs wear gorgeous day outfits that we can see ourselves wearing for a special occasion this spring. Going to the races? Got a wedding coming up? Or just want a smarter, more sophisticated look for work?  Check out these 8 amazing celeb looks at CinemaCon.

Mila Kunis

Mila managed to look smart but also super comfortable in black separates with cropped black trousers and a sleeveless black top. She looks businesslike but also stylish as the outfit fits her beautifully. By tucking her top into her trousers she highlights her slim waist. This is an outfit that you would feel not only comfortable in but confident in as you’d look fantastic for any eventuality.

Kirsten Dunst

Spring is the season for florals and Kirsten Dunst showed off her tanned legs in a beautiful floral mini dress. The colour is so light, fresh and feminine, you just look at it and feel more cheerful. And for the wearer, the light colours brighten up skin tones meaning you’ll look healthy and alert and more tanned. This dress would be perfect for a spring / summer wedding.

Cara Delevingne

She’s new at acting, but if she acts as well as she dresses, a big star is in the making! Cara dazzled in a bright red blouse with a leather skirt, making a bold entrance onto the stage. This might not be a look you’d wear to the office but it’d turn heads on a night out at a cocktail bar as it’s a cool and strong look with a feminine edge.

Charlize Theron

The South African actress also wore a floral dress, but her purple dress was much brighter. It’s a gorgeous colour on her and would suit blondes or brunettes. Again, this would be ideal to wear as a wedding guest as it’s light and will keep you cool during the service while helping you to stand out and have some fun on the dancefloor. Also, purple isn’t that popular a colour so you wouldn’t be in danger of another guest wearing something similar to you.

Naomi Watts

Naomi looked very elegant and chic in a smart blue midi dress. The shape is very conservative but it has a playful edge thanks to the colour and the stripes. This would be good for the workplace as you’ll impress your boss without compromising on expressing your personality. What do you think?

Maria Menounos

The E! News presenter always dresses to make sure we notice her just as much as the celebs she talks about and how can we fail to do that when she wears things as fabulous as this one shoulder white jumpsuit? The colour is absolutely dazzling against her tanned skin and the one shoulder detail makes it that little bit different so we want to look twice.

Jessica Chastain

Polka dots are starting to make a comeback this season. Emma Stone’s worn them, Alexa Chungs got involved and now Jessica is the latest to get the polka dot look. Her midi dress is really fun and quirky, especially with the statement yellow heels!

Laura Haddock

Transformers: The Last Knight will be Laura’s first film since having a baby and she was every inch the yummy mummy in a black lace dress. The lace detail is so pretty that our eyes are drawn upwards so we don’t notice any bits she wants to hide. Also, black is a flattering colour to wear and it looks like she has a very sleek silhouette. It’s always lovely to see a British actress holding her own in Hollywood in both the acting and the style stakes.

Celeb Style Steal: Louisa Johnson’s Denim And Leather

Louisa Johnson has come a long way since The X Factor. She was only 17 when she won it in 2015 and now she’s come of age and evolved into a confident, stylish woman. Now that she’s promoting her newest single Best Behaviour and doing lots of radio and TV interviews and public appearances, you can hear the self-assurance in her voice and see how strongly she holds herself. She means business!

One way to feel more fabulous in your skin is to like what you’re wearing. Louisa always looks stylish when she’s doing her interviews in cute but easy to wear clothes that look effortlessly cool when put together. She usually finishes with some heels for that extra bit of confidence. So if you want to go into spring with a positive attitude, let’s take a look at some of Louisa’s most recent looks:

The leather skirt look

A leather skirt is a great way to vamp up an outfit so that you feel extra special in what you’re wearing. It gives the impression of a woman who’s not afraid to take risks and will make you feel brave, even if you don’t feel it. Try the Fashion Union leather mini skirt for one similar to Louisa’s. As it’s so dramatic, it’s best to wear with a plain coloured top like the V by Very ruched sleeve bardot top.

Finish with some ankle boots with a chunky heel that are easy to walk in but lengthen your legs and make them look slimmer because they add a bit of extra height. The V by Very real suede ankle boots are just like the one’s Louisa’s wearing.

The denim shirt look

Double denim is always a way to turn heads as it’s also a little bit different. A pair of super skinny jeans with a jacket that falls to the waist is flattering for both the legs and the waist. Louisa wore this to perform on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, which is a big deal and this outfit gave her the energy to conquer her nerves and belt out her tune. We can get this look with the V by Very stretch denim jacket and the Superdry Sophia high waisted super skinny jeans.

Notice her fabulous gold sandals? They make her double denim more party-ready and they’d make her smile every time she looked down. The River Island Wisdom glitter sandals are perfect!

Which of Louisa’s looks do you prefer? It’s easier than you think to find a fabulous outfit that will make you feel super confident – enjoy!

Coachella Weekend Two: Celebrity Festival Fashion

Coachella is such a hot ticket that it’s now on over two weekends so that more people have an opportunity to experience the sunny festival vibes.  The second weekend is usually the most music-focused weekend as opposed to the first one which is when lots of big name brands host celeb parties. For that reason, we see celebs dressed more relaxed and cool in a laidback way during the second weekend as they are at the festival to dance and enjoy the music, rather than pose by a pool.

The second weekend usually has outfits that we can imagine ourselves wearing at a festival later in the year. They’re practical but still unique and fun – just the look we want! So let’s have a closer look at what the celebs wore to weekend two for some major festival style inspiration:

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga headlined the festival, making history as the first ever solo female headliner. She killed it with her performance and she looked stunning on stage in black shorts, a black vest top and statement black boots. When Gaga puts her mind to it, she’s captivating – it’s impossible to take your eyes off her.

Rihanna

Rihanna really goes for it whether she’s working or not – her silver outfit ensures all eyes are on her wherever she goes! However, if you ignore the silver, you’ll see she’s wearing a classic festival outfit of denim shorts and a casual white vest top. That’s something that would look good on anyone and you could easily layer it up with a jacket if the weather at your festival takes a turn for the worse.

Lorde

Lorde drew a crowd of thousands to watch her on stage and she went all out to keep everyone entertained. Her stage outfit was very cool – with a feminine and sophisticated black bodysuit mixed with bold sequin trousers and finished with classic Adidas Original Stan Smiths. None of these things match and that’s why it works for her.

Vanessa Hudgens

This is such a gorgeous festival look as it’s feminine but very appropriate for a festival. Vanessa actually attended both weekends so by this stage, she knew what she was doing. The gold sequin top is stunning and looks gorgeous with green shorts and brown suede ankle boots. What do you think?

Paris Hilton

Paris made sure that everyone spotted her and her boyfriend with a cute green maxi dress. A maxi dress is ideal for a festival as it’s really flattering and it’s something you can just throw on and feel fabulous in. If you haven’t had much sleep then put on a bright maxi dress and everyone will be so busy admiring the dress, they won’t look at your face too closely.

Shay Mitchell

Denim is a festival essential and The Vampire Diaries actress looked fierce and fabulous in her double denim ensemble. The ripped boyfriend jeans and pale blue denim jacket are both on trend this season and to pair them together makes ga killer look.

Kehlani

The American singer looks incredible in her denim shorts. If you’re proud of your curves then why not show them off? A crop top further highlights her slim waist and gorgeous bum. It’s not a complicated look and it’s simplicity means it looks as if she hasn’t tried too hard, even though she’s definitely worked out what to wear to best show off her figure. If you want to get noticed for all the right reasons, this would be a great look to copy.

It’s the start of spring, but for sneakerheads, one date holds prominence over all others. The 26th March is Nike Air Max Day.

2017 is extra special as it celebrates 30 years since Nike introduced this ground-breaking concept to the masses.

Originally intended for athletes, Air Cushioning Technology revolutionised the running circuit and casual scene alike. This success brought about visible Air unit with the Air Max 1 in 1987, something that resonates in all models since, from the classic ‘90 right up to the future-facing 2017.

Passing on a street style from one generation to the next, the Air Max holds a look for the entire family and has been spotted on some of the most famous celebrities around the world.

  1. How would you describe your blog? It’s my little corner of the internet where I talk about everything from personal style, to my beauty favourites, events and the general goings on in my life.
  2. What were your reasons for choosing this outfit? I’m all about comfort when it comes to day-to-day style, and the sporty vibe goes perfectly with the Nike Air Max Theas. I love the colour, length and the satin fabric of the bomber jacket. And stripes are my thing (I have way too many striped tees!), plus the ripped jeans are an absolute staple in my wardrobe.
  3. How would it fit into your daily life? This is a look I would wear for a laid back weekend, whether it be heading to the cinema, off out for a pub lunch with family or hitting the shops with friends.
  4. If you had to describe your style in 3 words what would it be? Classic Yet experimental – I know what cuts and shapes suit my body but I love to push the boundaries too.
  5. What do you like about Nike Air Max? I’m a massive trainer fan, and Nike is my go-to brand when it comes to style and comfort. I wear my Theas regularly as they add effortless style to any look. They take me from the shops, to an event and home again, and their classic style never dates. They’re a staple shoe that will always be part of my collection.

  1. How would you describe your blog? My blog covers all aspects of my life as a parent and what comes along with raising three children. As a single mum I strive to change the preconceived ideas that can come along with that label, hearing I have helped or encouraged someone really makes it all worthwhile.
  2. What does a typical day involve for you? My day starts with coffee always! If I have the girls at home with me we are always out and about; park, beach or off on a woodland walk we rarely spend a whole day at home.
  3. How does the kids’ outfit you’ve picked fit in with your daily life? The outfit I’ve picked out is about comfort and practicality for the kids, if they’re out climbing or running about but I still want them to look cute. I love pastel shades especially as we head into spring. Pairing up the Nike Air Max Mesh 90s with jeans, a jumper and a thin jacket is so ideal for this time of year when the weather can change within minutes.
  4. Which celeb kid do you think has the coolest style? Harper Beckham, with a mum like Victoria how could she not look super cute at all times!

  1. How would you describe your blog? I would describe my blog as clean, minimalistic and I also enjoy experimenting to keep things fresh and new.
  2. What were your reasons for choosing this outfit? I wanted to keep it smart yet casual, and with the Spring/Summer upon us, I felt that the shorter sleeve shirt would be great for this time of year.
  3. How would it fit into your daily life? My go to outfit is usually always a shirt teamed with some skinny black jeans, so it would fit in quite well.
  4. If you had to describe your style in 3 words what would it be? Black, tailored, clean.
  5. What do you like about Nike Air Max? I like that the trainer is so versatile and can be worn for any occasion, whether it’s teaming it with a plain t shirt for a sporty look or with a shirt and smart trousers for a smarter look.

Things to Do With the Kids This Half Term

Can you believe it, Half Term already! The year is going so fast and so if you’re thinking, it feels like you’ve blinked and the kids are off school and you have absolutely no idea what you’re going to do to entertain them, then fear not.

We have a list of great ideas to keep the kids occupied over the Half Term break. Variety is the key, as everyone knows kids get bored easily – and keeping their little minds and bodies active too.

Have your Own Bake-Off Challenge

Everyone loves Great British Bake Off – especially kids. The best thing about it is that you can watch it all as a family, and so many kids want to get into the kitchen as a result and make their own creations!

If it’s an especially rainy afternoon, baking is a Godsend. It doesn’t matter whether you have just the one little baker – or a group of them (although this can add a competitive edge to see who is crowned Master Baker!)

Just give them a theme, such as a film or book, or the ‘Showstopper Challenge’! All you need to supervise is the blender and some baking equipment, let them get creative and then you can enjoy the tasty treats afterwards.

Story (or Quiet!) Time

Another good idea for a rainy day is to get them to create a play of their favourite story. They can use fancy dress, make props, do a puppet show or even perform songs. But it should take up enough time for you to make a cuppa and have a biscuit – while waiting for them to perfect their show and ‘entertain’ you!

Afterwards, hopefully they might be a bit tired out from all the acting and singing, so you can get them to pick a favourite book and have some ‘quiet’ time reading, and cuddling on the sofa.

Have a Sports Day

To make sure they get a bit of exercise as well during the break, why not set up a mini Sports Day? Whether it’s just lying a few hula hoops on the floor for them to jump into (landing outside results in lost points!), skipping for a set number of skips, or even doing an egg and spoon race (with little bean bags or balls).

There are lots of cheap outdoor toys too if the weather’s good, such as footballs goals to see how many they can score, swingball and tents where they can have a picnic/ adventure!

Days out

As a treat on one of the days, if you’re climbing the walls by then, there are some great days out there that don’t cost the earth. Obviously there’s always the usual museums, art galleries and local parks to be explored, but if you’re looking for something different, Virgin Experiences offer a range of activities.

From swinging around forests, to bouncing on giant trampoline nets in a cave – and wandering around London on the Harry Potter bus tour.

Mummy Blogger Tips for Half Term:

We asked one of our favourite mummy bloggers, Amy Treasure from www.amytreasure.com, what she does with her kids at Half Term:

  1. You definitely need a plan in the half term! I would recommend reading local blogs for ideas on what to do. Quite often there will be suggestions depending on good or bad weather so you have your bases covered. I also check the local library noticeboard as they always put on activities for the kids during school holidays.
  2. We really enjoy baking together as a family, Holly (16) is at an age where she can happily supervise Rose (3) in the kitchen and they have lots of fun baking cupcakes and decorating them.
  3. All three children enjoy being outdoors and we’ve always encouraged them to come with us on long walks in the woods behind our house, we’re really lucky that we have so much green space for them to kick a ball about and run off steam. Quite often we’ll pop across the Severn Bridge to Wales and go to the beach. We also make good use of our National Trust membership and do lots of days out visiting places of interest.
  4. My favourite Half Term memory has to be when we stayed in Tenby, Pembrokeshire. It was February half-term so pretty cold but we managed to do a boat trip out to Caldey Island and saw seals and puffins. The older kids even went boogie boarding in the sea! There’s lots of places to stop for a piece of cake and a cup of tea and you can’t beat fish and chips on the beach. Just thinking about that holiday brings back so many happy memories for me
