Football’s Coming Home, Or Is It?

At 3pm England players will embark on the most important 90+ injury time minutes of their professional lives. The game against Slovenia is their final group game. It’s a group game that will be played as if it were THE final. Right now and in the context of this World Cup campaign it means as much. No really, it does.

The question that keeps getting asked is can Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard and co handle the pressure?

Can you handle it?

I’m not sure I can.

In times like these, it’s animal instinct for the football fan to fall back on statistics to stengthen their case. So on your behalf, allow me…

Mexico 1986: England lost their first game, drew the second and thanks to our very own Golden Wonder boy Gary Lineker got through.

Italia 90: England drew both their opening games but still made it to the semi finals.

France 98: Wearing their lucky red strips England again found a way out of the group stages.

South Africa 2010: Will England secure a last 16 spot? A win (however marginal) over Slovenia will do it.

If you want an omen to cling to then how about this one fashion forward poeple: England are the ones in red!

Good luck England XXX
