Double denim is one of the biggest trends this season but it’s difficult to know where to start with it. That’s why we were happy to see actress turned rock chick Juliette Lewis backstage at The Isle of Wight festival this weekend.
She makes a denim jacket teamed with bootcut jeans seem effortlessly cool, rather than something she tried to mix and match for hours.
So what’s her secret? We grabbed her for a chat to talk denim, dresses and daring to be different…
QS: “You have an interesting sense of style. What’s your inspiration?”
QS: Do you have a stylist?
“When I first got well known, I didn’t know about stylists or appreciate it might be helpful to have one. Come the Oscars, I simply thought, “I suppose I’d better find a pretty dress!” I can scrub up pretty well.
“In answer to the question, sometimes I have a stylist and sometimes I don’t bother. I was a catwalk model in Mlilan Fashion Week and then people told me what to wear. I liked it but my true passion is always music rather than dressing up.”
QS: Dresses or Jeans – what are you most comfortable in?
Both! At the same time. I like things that wouldn’t normally go together. But on stage I wear trousers or shorts because I’m bonkers up there.
QS: What’s your advice about dressing for music festivals?
“Take a watch. It’s vital to know what bands are on at what times.
“Don’t worry about being sloppy in jeans and a hoodie. I just don’t consider a perfect hairdo and a perfect face to be beautiful. If I had my way I’d dress myself and do my own makeup for magazine shoots.
“Chill out because if there is anything you forget you can normally buy it on site. I collect clothes – they keep building and building. I buy them instead of having them washed.
QS: You dated Brad Pitt for four years, what do you think of how he is now?
“When I run into him it’s like running into an old comrade. He’s grown into a fine man and father. Total super father. It’s pretty impressive. Their family unit is inspiring.”
And we think Juliette is inspiring too! Copy her double denim look with one of Very’s denim jackets. You can choose ones with zips, ones with studded details but one similar to the rock chick’s is a
You can dress them up with heels or wear with trainers for running round in. Double denim has now got a lot less difficult thanks to Juliette.
