A lady walked passed me in Heathrow’s Terminal 4 a few weeks ago leaving a trail of Chanel No.5 in her wake. I was immediately transported back to my parents bedroom – I was a child again, watching my Mother getting ready to go out for the evening. She only ever wore it on special occasions so the smell always reminds me of these times. The smell always reminds me of her.
In just the same way that a song can take us back to a different time, so can the scents of our past. During my school days I walked around in a cloud of Impulse ‘Chic’ (who didn’t and do they still make it?). Calvin Klein’s CK1 was my perfume of choice during my college years – I thought I was so cool and original but it turned out that everyone was wearing it! My tastes have changed since then and the fresh and floral Acqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani has been my ‘day’ perfume for some time. But for something special I adore the distinctive, sultry and oriental fragrance of Calvin Klein’s Secret Obsession.
I don’t feel complete without a spritz of perfume, more than evoking memories, your choice of scent can say as much about you as the clothes you wear; it’s an extension of your style.
