The LBD makes a grand entrance… in the Oxford dictionary!

We’ve all known for decades that the little black dress (that’s LBD to you and me) has been a wardrobe staple for women the world over, the perfect outfit that makes you look fab whether you  keep it plain and simple or glam it up.

Now it seems that the literary world has acknowledged that the LBD really is essential – and the abbreviation is one of 2,000 new words and phrases to make it into the latest edition of the Oxford Dictionary of English!

The LBD, made famous by screen legend Audrey Hepburn, was in questionable company with the addition of words like cheeseball – referring to a person with bad style – and bromance – an expression referring to a close relationship between men.

To celebrate the recognition of our best loved wardrobe outfit, here are some ideas for a new LBD for your wardrobe!

I love this tutu inspired version – flirty, feminine and everything you need in your staple LBD.

Layers can be a fab way of hiding your tummy and this brilliant Love Label dress is bodycon perfect – leaving you looking glam, even on those bloated days!

Add a bit of glam to your daytime look with this Savoir dress with diamante buckle details – excellent for brightening things up. This is a great day-to-night option and is perfect for a posh restaurant.

This spotted LBD from Oasis is a great LBD with a modern twist. Perfect for taking from day to night – just change your accessories!

The LBD doesn’t have to be a micro mini. Mix up your styles and grab this fab black Elements / Amanda Wakeley maxi dress, this season’s essential style, for a glam night out.
