Dance, dance… and get fit!

If you’re the type that loves to get up on the dancefloor but starts backing away when the gym is mentioned, then there might just be a perfect solution for you… exercise that doesn’t even involve leaving the house and lets you work up a sweat by shaking your booty to your favourite tunes.

Yes, dance games are nothing new and we all know that they’re loads of fun but did you know that they are a great form of exercise too? I defy you to spend an hour on a dance mat and not work up a sweat!

So, what’s on offer for us dance loving gamers out there? What’s the best game to help us tone up and get active? Well there are a few options out there that you can try and here are some of the best.

Just Dance 2 – Nintendo Wii

Just dance? Well ok then… Yep this game does exactly what it says on the tin! You follow your dancing coach to help you learn the routines and can compete to win tournaments, or play against friends – with up to eight players. Dance about to songs like MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This, strike a pose or ‘Just Sweat’ to get a great workout.

Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party 3 – Nintendo Wii

This game uses a special dance mat controller that you control by learning dance moves and stepping on the specific square at the appropriate time – so it is literally like you are dancing the night away. There’s plenty of song choice – from the Black Eyes Peas to Basement Jaxx – and there’s a DDR school to teach you the basics, a training mode and free play. You can also use the Wii balance board to help complete your workout.

Dance on Broadway – Nintendo Wii

Pumping techno hits and chirpy pop songs not quite your thing? No problem – this Broadway inspired dance game could be right up your street. Get your jazz hands ready and prepare to dance along with your favourite show tunes. There’s plenty of track choice including One Night Only from Dreamgirls, Roxie from Chicago and Good Morning Baltimore from Hairspray – this is fun and the choreography is pretty detailed, so you’ll certainly work up a sweat quickly.

If none of those tickle your fancy take a look at the rest of the selection of dance games where there’s everything from High School Musical to Cheerleading!
