Recreate the F1 thrills with Scalextric

The Formula One season is about to draw to an exciting conclusion in the coming weeks, with Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel all fighting it out for the world championship title.

Recent success for the British drivers, namely Hamilton and current champion Jenson Button, has seen motorsport in the UK enjoy a boom in popularity, with huge numbers of youngsters now looking to take up karting and other forms of racing in an attempt to emulate their heroes.

Of course, karting isn’t for everybody but there is no reason why you and your kids can’t lie out your own F1 adventure in the comfort of your own home.

Scalextric has been bringing the thrill of the race track to children’s bedrooms since the 1950’s but its popularity continues more than 60 years on. Of course, the sets are a little bit more advanced than the ones that were available back in 1957 but the formula has remained the same.

This is no more apparent in this Scalextric Grand Prix set, which includes two F1 cars so that you can act out your own Grand Prix.

The set includes 14 feet worth of track, enough to build six unique circuits, mega-tough cars and customisable stickers and car decals to personalise your own set.

If rally driving is more your thing but you would rather do without the mud, then you’re also well catered for.

This Scalextric World Rally start set, like the Grand Prix version, comes with ultra-tough cars that can withstand plenty of high speed crashes as well as plenty of track – enough for four different circuit layouts.

If 14ft worth of track could prove to be a little much for your youngster’s bedroom floor, then this Micro Scalexric Maximum Mayhem set could be what you are looking for.

The set lets you race two Aston Martin DBR9 cars around a demanding circuit, with a lap time counter also included so that you can test yourself against the clock and improve your times lap after lap.

If you are looking for something a little more advanced, fans of the hit TV show Top Gear will love this Scalextric Top Gear Powerlaps set, which features enough track to recreate the Top Gear test track – Hammerhead and the Follow Through included.

Finally, if you want the full Silverstone experience, then the Scalextic Triple Cup set is what you are looking for. Featuring three Porsche racing cars, this set includes a pit stop game, digital race control console and everything else that you might need on a busy Grand Prix weekend.

So what are you waiting for? Start your engines and GO! GO! GO!
