With music more portable than ever before, it is hardly surprising that sales of personal earphones and headphones skyrocketed in 2010. Whilst the majority of people choose to stick with the earphones that came bundled with their music player, music aficionados will tell you that basic earphones just don’t cut it.
Aftermarket earphones and headphones have proved extremely popular following the digital music boom. Companies like Sennheiser, Skullcandy and iLuv have all enjoyed success with high performance personal earphones, many of which including some very clever features that you won’t find in your ‘standard issue’ pair.
And now there is a new name on the block, with some pretty credible celebrity backing. Famous for his edgy rapping and collaborations with the likes of Eminem, D12, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre has stepped into the personal headphones market with his “Beats by Dr. Dre” collection.
When releasing the original ‘Studio’ model in 2008, Dr. Dre, in partnership with leading cable manufacturer Monster, aimed to create a style of headphones to satisfy the demands from DJ’s and music professionals – the sort of people that demand quality, clarity and durability.
Today, “Beats by Dr. Dre” boasts more than 13 different products and some huge celebrity endorsements. The likes of Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, P Diddy and NBA star LeBron James have all launched their own styles under the brand.
Dr. Dre is known himself as something of a perfectionist (he once forced one artist to record a single bar of lyrics a staggering 107 times) so you can be assured of one thing – these headphones aren’t going to compromise on quality. That quality does come at a price, with the Beat Pro Headphones topping the range at £349, but true music fans will argue that it is a price worth paying for crystal clarity and almost no interference from outside noises.
Style is also an important factor for “Beats by Dr. Dre”. Just look at the funky red cabling on the Dr. Dre Ibeats and the Dr Dre Tour Control Talk in-ear earphones, the latter of which also includes a microphone for your mobile phone.
If you are the sort of person who has previously been sceptical over the true difference between standard issue headphones and higher quality aftermarket models, try it for yourself. The difference can be staggering. There is a huge range out there to select from but if you want crystal clear sound quality and fantastic style, Beats by Dr. Dre should be on your list.
