There’s never been a better time to get into trousers. Designers have gone mad for them this season and naturally, the high street has followed. There are wide leg, tapered leg, skinny, boot cut, flared and cropped for starters with high-waisted, pleated, turn-ups, tuxedo and jodphur details to choose from. Plus they come in all the fabrics and colours imaginable that, if you’re not a trousers wearing kind of gal, it can be hard to know where to start. With such a wide range of styles and silhouettes to choose from at Very I guarantee that there’s a pair to suit every single one of you.
The newest styles are tapered or peg trousers that finish just above the ankle and these beautiful French Connection Max trousers will look super cool with a simple t-shirt, biker jacket and skinny legs.
To be honest, the aforementioned legs are kind of essential (which rules me and my carrot shaped pins O.U.T.). As the silhouette is all about skinny legs you can really go to town in layering up your top half. Try a polo neck and faux fur gilet accessorised with a long pendant necklace or a vest and sheer knit sweater or a gorgeous cape coat. All of these looks are perfect if you carry a bit of weight around your tummy or you don’t have much of a waist.
Love Label Turn Up Tapered Trousers with Belt however, are perfect for hourglass/pear shapes as the pleats at the waist flatter your curves. Wear with a heritage style blouse and fitted tweedy jacket or boyfriend cardigan and some vintage style pearls. Be sure to contrast the primness with sexy pointy toed court shoes.
Love Label Luxe Leather Trousers or Love Label PU Leggings for the veggies are still a big trend and also look great on apple shapes and straight up and down frames with those lovely slim legs (grrr) and pert bottoms (double grrrrrr). Dress this provocative fabric down by wearing an oversized chunky knit (extra style points for Navajo patterns) and high peep toe ankle boots for a look that is edgy and effortless.
High waisted trousers like these Diana Vickers High Waisted Trousers really elongate the legs and worn with a jewel coloured silky or sheer tucked in blouse are your night time nod to the 70s trend that is so huge right now. Tie a contrast coloured long thin scarf around your neck Gucci AW11 style and add big gold bling rings. For daytime in the office I’d think about investing in these beauties Firetrap Venture Paper Bag Trousers. They look amazing with bare ankles and sexy courts but once the winter kicks how about wearing them with silky socks, brogues and a tucked in a fine knit sweater with a crisp buttoned up white shirt peeking out from underneath. Geek girl glasses optional but very, very cool.
I’ve been at the Spring/Summer 2012 RTW shows and sheer trousers are looking to be very hot for next year. The models wore them under semi sheer above the knee dresses with semi sheer vests layered over the top in Brit designer Richard Nicoll’s beautiful show. Why not invest already and get these Love Label Jersey Palazzo Pants as they are an absolute bargain. Don’t wait ’til next year to wear them. They are the perfect pair of winter party trousers worn with a sequinned vest and tuxedo jacket and are a sexy and unexpected alternative to the LBD.
You really don’t have to get your legs out to look hot (and probably be absolutely freeeezing cold) this autumn winter if you invest in a well cut, well styled (well, why not?) fabulous pair of trousers.
