Headphones are generally unexciting. However, the entire world (and myself included) have gone absolutely mad for Dr Dre’s collaboration with Monster: Beats. From Heartbeats by Lady Gaga, to Diddy Beats – a collaboration between Beats by Dr Dre and P Diddy – the Beats family may be varied, but they all have one thing in common: amazing sound.
As much as I’d like to get my paws on a pair of the new Heartbeats by Lady Gaga, I’d rather have high quality music at home, which is precisely why I have a huge crush on the Dr Dre Monster Beats Beatbox iPod/iPhone Docking Station. The Beatbox’s sound is perfection – so much so that when I had it demoed for me at a recent event, I had to check under the table it was playing on to make sure there wasn’t a hidden subwoofer or extra set of speakers playing, too.
Not needing a subwoofer, amplifier and a couple of extra speakers means that the Beatbox doesn’t take-up a lot of room in your home, which is a big win. Being able to dock your iPod means you can listen to all of your fantastic playlists, and docking your iPhone means you can also play music from any online music services you subscribe to, such as Spotify, which I love. Even better, the Beatbox has nifty features, such as when you dock your iPod or iPhone, even if you last left the volume on full, the Beatbox knows to instantly drops the volume upon first play so you won’t blow out your eardrums. (Or scare yourself to death!)
While more traditional hi-fis are great, having the power of Beats to amplify your music at home is incomparable.
