New Makeup Trends

There’s nothing we like more than finding out the latest trends, whether it’s fashion, home or beauty. This Spring Summer, we saw some fab beauty trends across the catwalks and thought we’d show you how to recreate the looks at home!

One of the key trends for Spring Summer 2012 is bold eyes: whether this means a dash of colour, a slick of eyeliner, or huge false lashes, strong eye makeup looks were everywhere. If you want to go for colour, there are no boundaries when it comes to shade, but make sure you keep the colour tight on the lid and avoid bleeding out into the socket for a modern look. We love both the Barry M Dazzle Dust Bright Indigo and Barry M Dazzle Dust – Neon Pink for a great summery look; pair with nude lips and barely there blush for high impact style. The Dainty Doll Eyeshadow 004 in bright blue is also gorgeously bold and looks particularly good on darker skin tones.

If you prefer a stronger, classic look, opt for monochrome palettes with on-trend false lashes. Start by applying a charcoal coloured eyeshadow over the lid and blend into the socket, winging out at the corners for a smudged effect. Then use a dark kohl pencil to outline the upper eyelash line for a strong base for your false lashes. The Rimmel Perfect Eye Collection is a great option for those exploring this look, or try the Daniel Sandler Eye Love It – Rock Chick eye colour if you prefer a darker look. Our favourite false lashes have got to be the Eylure Double Lashes 206, with their beautiful winged effect and thick, layered style. These reusable lashes can be applied several times: ensure that the eyelash glue is slightly tacky before applying the lashes using a tweezer. A good tip is to reapply your eyeliner over the lash after adding them to give a slightly more natural look. And voila – gorgeous, bold peepers!

Along with bold eyes, bold coloured lips were a big trend too. However, don’t do both together; choose one or the other, and keep the rest of the face pared down. For bold lips, it’s essential that you moisturise and exfoliate your lips before applying lipstick; try Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Moisturising Lip Balm 4g for soft and conditioned lips. The best bold lips come with using the right tools, too. Don’t apply your lipstick straight from the bullet, but rather use a lip brush for controlled, rich colour. The Max Factor Lip Brush is made from soft hair and shaped to give excellent coverage; outline your lip line using the lip brush, then add more colour to the centre of the lips. For a softer look, apply the lipstick with your finger, working from the centre of your pout outwards, to create a soft, ‘stained’ look. Like eyes, lips colours for Spring Summer 2012 weren’t limited to a particular palette: pick a colour that suits your skin tone and go for it! The Barry M Lip Paint – Coral is a perfect summery tone, while the Barry M Lip Paint – Pillar Box Red is ideal for lots of different skin tones and girls who love a classic ‘screen siren’ look. The Barry M Lip Paint 152-Vintage Rose is a great alternative to pillar box reds, or go all out with the Barry M Lip Laquer Crayon – Party Pink in a bright, glossy pink.

With these easy tips, you can keep your makeup bag as fresh as your wardrobe, thanks to Very!
