Pastels are BIG this spring/summer, and this is definitely my favourite trend. The catwalks were awash with a 1950’s USA theme, think prim and preppy, glossy wet-look leathers buffed to a cadillac shine, prim plaids in shiny wipe clean cottons and pastel checks to table cloth ginghams, preppy checks in ice cream sundae shades. I’m in love with Prada’s muscle-car prints, very vintage americana!
My gorgeous little friend Renee talks you through how to wear pastels in the video above.
Also this season it’s all about the crop top, do you dare to bare your midriff this spring/summer? Team with a prom or pencil style skirt or pastel coloured skinnies? If you’re not comfortable with a crop top, try tying a pastel coloured shirt at the waist – think Grease. I’m on day 1 of ‘Danielle’s Big Summer Diet’. I was debating what to give up for lent – the usual chocolate, bread, crisps and as my mum and sister have managed to lose a stone in 6 weeks on their diet, I decided to follow suit. My plan is to definitely be able to wear a crop top this summer, after attempting to shed some weight that is! Remember that prom-style skirts are perfect for us pear shapes.
Skirts will have high waistbands to focus on the skinniest part of the waist, with sheer cardigans as cover ups, and don’t forget the cats eye sunglasses for a perfect hit of retro Americana. Prada, Louis Vuitton & Jonathan Saunders are all influential, thinking along similar lines this season; the in-out /waist-hip silhouette in sorbet colours, prim femininity, all reminiscent of the 1950’s and all with a contemporary twist.
Bring on the summer!
