What To Wear To A Black and White Wedding?

Wedding season is coming and I’ve received my first invite of 2012. To my delight it’s a black and white wedding reception. I do love a wedding, I love planning my outfit! It’s the perfect excuse to get dressed up and a theme adds another dimension.  When discussing the dress code with a friend she said ‘at least the wedding photos will look nice’. It’s true that most weddings have at least one guest vying for the limelight in a brightly coloured ensemble. The Mother of the Bride can get away with it (just) but the girlfriend of a random cousin will find herself on the receiving end of numerous tuts and ‘looks’.

So, what to wear? For the guys it’s a no brainer – black suit and tie. But for us women it’s another story. Ordinarily a white dress would be the ultimate faux pas but would this now be acceptable? Can I add a pop of colour, a pink clutch perhaps? I wonder if this would be seen as an attempt to stand out in the photos. Can I go head-to-toe black?  It’s complicated, but I do like a challenge….

Outfit One

The LBD is an obvious choice but this Fearne Cotton Sequin Bow Tunic has a fabulous sequin white bow and sheer sleeves, teamed with Iron Fist Lacey Days Handbag (SMU) and a pair of Love Label Lovebird Bow T-bar Shoes and I’ve got myself an outfit that even Fearne Cotton herself would be proud of.

Outfit Two

A pattern dress is a great way wear black and white without looking like a waitress! I love this Oasis Rope Print Shift Dress. It’s a demure style so ladylike shoes and a clutch bag would compliment the look. I think these Dune Salute Round Toe Mary Jane Shoes would be perfect with this Lipsy Embellished Clutch Bag.

Outfit Three

Could I be brave enough to attend in a white dress? This Oasis Flared Vintage Style Dress may well be worth the risk of a few raised eyebrows. Teamed with black opaque tights and these South Crane Platform Court Shoe I think it would look appropriately guest like, especially with a flash of OPI Big Apple Red Nail Lacquer on my nails. A cool finishing touch would be this Ted Baker Bow and Faux Pearl Bracelet.

Which do you think I should opt for?

Love Hazel x
