Don’t we all love to look at photos of celebrities rocking a look and then critique their outfits with our girlfriends, especially when we think they’ve got it so wrong. On the other hand sometimes we love a celebrity’s outfit sooo much we want it for ourselves. Ahhh, if only we had the dosh we would! As well as buying their own clothes celebs are incredibly fortunate to be given or loaned expensive designer outfits for all those photo opportunities. In this makeover I want to share with you how to get that celeb look for less. What I mean by this is not necessarily by doing it on the cheap, but by using your fashion savviness to select clothes that look expensive, even if they’re not.
When emulating a celebrity’s style look out for quality fabrics and classic items that won’t date. Celebs almost always have gorgeous on trend designer handbags too. Now I don’t believe in the £500+ handbag and I would NEVER pay that much for one, certainly not when Very does some great versions at a fraction of the price. Same goes for ridiculously overpriced sunglasses. Very have three gorgeous celebrity designed ranges to choose from – the ever so fashion forward collection by Fearne Cotton, the playful, fun range by Diana Vickers and the glamorous curvalicious collection by Holly Willoughby. We’ve seen them wearing their designs out so why don’t you too?
From Diana’s range I selected a red silky Soft Button Through Satin Shirt which is understated and expensive looking and was great on our blonde model. I put the shirt with a pair of soft Suede Tap Shorts which are the bargain of the century at £24. Both items are classics that won’t date. It’s the accessories that make this outfit so fashion forward. The Woven Fedorah hat is still a super cool style and suits most face shapes. The Double Strand Necklace breaks up the block colour of the shirt and the gorgeous Love Label Toucan Woven Striped Shoes which are channeling Tribal, Geometric print and Monochrome – that’s three trends in one shoe – work perfectly with the hat. I finished off the look with a Scalloped Trim Bowler Bag, the bag shape of the moment. The black and white/cream accessories add interest and really pull this outfit together. It’s very chic, very luxurious, very French Riviera. And best of all, these six items can be bought for under £150. Now that’s chiconomics!
Fearne Cotton’s range is so gorgeous I ended up wearing the bright yellow Embellished Evening Maxi Dress myself with a faded denim jacket over the top to keep it daytime dressed down. I put our second model in the Chiffon Printed Playsuit. I heart this and I can’t wait to see Fearne working it. The colour and print are very vintage looking which is a big part of Fearne’s style. I wanted to bring some colour in with the accessories so I went for the Chanel-esque peachy Small Quilted Chain Handbag. It’s sooo designer and only £25. Kerching! Fearne is a superb footwear designer and I chose her chartreuse coloured Bells Corsage Wedges with removable corsage flowers for a great pop of colour. For designer looking sunglasses at a tenth of the price I chose Kabul Round Sunglasses for only £17. These are the bomb and they looked amay-zing on our dark haired model.
Our very gorgeous, curvalicious competition winner Alison was perfectly shaped for Holly Willoughby’s beautiful collection. The Printed Pussy Bow Tea Dress has a very 1940’s feel to it and the draped sleeves were really flattering on Alison’s upper arms. I gave the dress a modern twist by adding a black belt Snake Print Belts (2 pack), two Oasis Snakeskin Bangles in cream and black and a charming gold Hummingbird Necklace. Black tights and So Fabulous Ultra Wide Fit Bow Shoes in black were great for lengthening her legs. Alison looked liked a 1940’s Hollywood screen star and in my opinion you can’t get more celebrity than that!
