British Soap Awards: The Winners And Their Outfits

At the Soap Awards, we expected the stars to put on their most glamorous, glitzy and utterly fabulous dresses and thankfully we were not disappointed this year. There was lots and lots and lots of rain in London on the night of the awards but our fave actresses didn’t let that stop them showing off. As all the actors and actresses of Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks walked down the red carpet at The London Studios, there were so many amazing maxi dresses we didn’t know who to pay attention to the most.

However, the winners deserve special attention for their acting talent as well as what they wore. Here’s our top five:

BEST ACTRESS – Alison King, Coronation Street

Alison King’s on-screen alter ego Carla O’Connor has had a dramatic year with a drunken car crash, a rape and the murder of her ex-husband, so she kept it simple with her outfit turning up in a  classic black maxi dress. Last year, Alison wore a kaftan and exclusively revealed to Very she was mocked for that choice, telling us: “I read the papers saying I should have dressed like I was going to a party, not the beach.” Bless! We think the black dress suited her.

BEST EXIT – Katherine Kelly, Coronation Street

Katherine Kelly, who’s left the streets of Corrie for London theatre show She Stoops To Conquer, looked classy, chic and elegant in a baby pink maxi dress. In the soap, she had platinum blonde outfits and flaunted her figure in tight clothing but the off-duty look suits her more. We asked if she’d ever go back to Corrie and she revealed: “I wouldn’t rule it out.” Watch this space!

SEXIEST FEMALE – Michelle Keegan, Coronation Street

It’s the fourth year Michelle has won sexiest female and looking at her glittering sequin blue party dress, we are not surprised. Recently Michelle and her boyfriend, Max George from The Wanted, announced they had ended their engagement. However, Max publicly congratulated her on Twitter and announced the pair were meeting up the following day. It looks like they have some things to talk about…

BEST DRAMATIC PERFORMANCE – Jo Joyner, Eastenders

Jo, who plays Tania Branning in Eastenders, dressed down in a polka dot dress but pulled it off. She must have realised that it would be difficult to compete in the glamour stakes with actresses 15-20 years younger and so she dressed for her age and looks lovely. More older actresses should do this.

BEST YOUNG PERFORMANCE, Lorna Fitzgerald, Eastenders

As her on-screen character Abi Branning, Lorna lives in either jeans and UGG boots or her school uniform so it was great to see her looking gorgeous in a trendy black going out dress and carrying a hot pink clutch bag. The 16-year-old revealed to us she was “stunned” she had won the prize and “getting to work with such an amazing cast feels like I win every day”. How cute is she?
