What a year it’s been for Jessie J! She’s going out to 6 million homes across the UK every Saturday and Sunday night on The Voice and she manages to multi-task this with her music career. It’s music that Jessie’s main passion and she’s on a roll right now as she’s just won Glamour magazine’s UK solo artist of the year. Go, girl!
The Glamour Awards are one of the most prestigious ceremonies of the year, voted for by readers of Glamour magazine. Unlike the Brits or the Grammys, which are voted for by music industry insiders, if you win a Glamour Award it’s a sign you’re going to be in for a good year. Hopefully the same fans that voted for Jessie to win will now buy her album, Jessie J Who You Are.
At the swanky soiree held in a marquee in London’s Berkeley Square, the Brits school graduate looked sensational in a black dress and statement necklace. Unsurprisingly, she was beseiged by well-wishers but she managed to answer a few questions about her style and upcoming plans.
QS: You’re not wearing as many tight clothes or catsuits as before – why?
Jessie: “I started to look like a cartoon character with the fringe and the catsuits. Yes, I want to change and mix it up. I want to change my hair, change my style. I want to be allowed to grow and wear dresses.’
QS: How would you like to wear your hair?
Jessie: “Maybe I’ll dye [my hair] a pastel colour or plum. I’m thinking this black is too harsh. It’s all about the eyebrows for me at the moment, I’m channelling Frida Khalo.”
QS: Are you excited about the Queen’s Jubilee weekend?
Jessie: “Yes, Im playing the gig. When I got the letter asking me to perform, I felt really proud. It’s a proper letter from the Queen’s secretary. I’m keeping it in a memory book. It’s written on this lovely thick notepaper. I keep feeling it.
QS: What’s next?
Jessie: “I can’t look too far ahead but I want to keep doing what I’m doing with my music, refine by sound and get better. I definitely feel I have something to prove to myself and my fans. I always want to raise the bar.”
QS: Which judge do you get on best with – Tom Jones, Danny O’Donoghue or Will.I.Am?
Jessie: “They’re all total legends.”
I think Jessie’s a legend too – there’s no stopping her right now. The Glamour Award will be just one of many this year, I think, and I’ll hopefully be there to bring you all the latest celeb news as it happens.
