**COMPETITION CLOSED**
Congratulations to our winner: Bethany Pitcher
We’ve got another mobile phone giveaway peeps!! Our buyers here at Very HQ have been very generous the last few weeks giving me lots of freebies to give away to you all. I’ve now got a Sony Xperia P Smartphone worth £399 to giveaway.
Basically, this phone is amaze-balls but if you want some of the techy-talk…here you go….
It’s a great looking phone, and with a stunning screen and great hardware and software, it’s a complete smartphone. Made from a single piece of high quality aluminium, the Sony Xperia P is seamless and looks ultra smooth and professional. Strong thanks to its metal shell, the Xperia P is still super light, weighing in at just 120g.
It’s screen is special too. The 4″ Reality Display is qHD, making it ideal for HD content, and it uses Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA® Engine which gives fantastic sharpness and colour clarity. There’s also WhiteMagic™ technology. This adds a white subpixel to the display, giving an ultra bright screen that uses less energy. A clever automatic brightness detector always ensures the brightness is just right.
If you’re into taking photos, the 8MP snapper on the back of the Xperia™ P is perfect. Using Sony’s award winning Exmor R™ lens it’s brilliant in low light, and at just over a second from sleep to snap, you won’t miss a thing. Need more? You can record 1080 HD videos, capture 2D and 3D panoramic images, there’s 8x digital zoom, face and smile detection, or use the front facing camera for video calls. Inside the smooth body is plenty of power. There’s a fast 1GHz dual core processor and 1GB RAM to enable smooth web browsing and video playback, and you can even open multiple apps at once without any hint of slowdown.
To enter, simply comment below telling us your experience of getting your first mobile phone!! Good luck x

i was about 8 years old and it was a sagem haha! i didnt even use it much and i had a few mobile phones i didnt use, then when i was 15 got my blackberry torch and im hooked
xx
Getting my first phone proved to me that my parents didnt favour my brother as he got the same first phone as me (though a little earlier). But I was sincerely happy, believed I was loved for the first time. That my parents actually care about me.
I remember my sister getting her first phone, the Nokia 3310. I was so jealous, and I was always playing Snake II on it, spending even more time on it than her! Eventually she got sick of me hogging it and she gave the phone to me!
my first ‘mobile’ phone was the size and weight of a brick
loved my first ever mobile, but looking back my god it was a brick!!!
It was like a house brick with its own postcode and an aerial that could control a space probe. I was delighted with the variety of neo classical ringtones on offer and decided to get a different colour cover to give it its own ‘unique’ look.
Being free to make a call, where ever you are!
OMG OMG I was sooooo excited and it was like a brick !!!!
My first mobile waas a Nokia 3310. It played snake awesomely :p
My 1st mobile in 1991 was a thing to behold…well hold with both hands actually!
Spent a long time looking at reviews, as I was after a cheap and basic phone.
The one I decided upon wasn’t available anywhere to hold and appraise it before purchase, and I quickly realized why as the rubbery keypad that was unresponsive, sluggish operation, etc. But with it being my first phone and a novelty I spent more money than sensible on customizing it, and buying a bumper amount of PayG credit.
It made communicating with friends much easier.
Having my first mobile helped me stay in touch with family and friends when was away. It also helps me out if i need to get in touch with anyone quickly or in an emergency, hence it makes me feel a little more safe when i’m out on my own.
my first ever mobile phone was a sagem my-x6, i was very excited about it because it was one of the earliest camera phones
I still have my first phone. It’s my one and only phone ever.
my first mobile was a bt cellnet so big u had 2 wear a jacket in the summer
My very first phone was a Nokia 1611 which was about the size and weight of a common house brick. Features were limited to a phone book and recent/missed call list, no internet, no games (not even snake), just make & receive calls and text messages This was one of the first GSM phones at a price which most people could afford.
I had just got together with my boyfriend and we went on the train together to Peterborough. It was about a week or so before christmas so very busy. We went and bought my phone and then stopped for a meal.Just burger and fries but it was lovely and surprisingly romantic.
My first mobile phone was so long ago it seems like a life time away
Years ago was like the best invention ever
It was a tiny [by standards those days!] motorola clam shell that made me feel very cool. I felt like a cross between one of my old Star Trek heroes, ready to be beamed aboard, and a James Bond character. Not bad for a wee phone and all without apps.
First mobile phone was the freedom to call from where ever and when ever
Well my first mob phone was in 1988 , it was so heavy it used to make my shoulder ache ! ,
£25 a month line rental ,(no free mins) 25p a min to call , no txt’s .
I first had a mobile the size of a brick as part of my job. Text messaging was a few years away. The sim card was the size of a credit card, the aerial was retractable but nonetheless still nearly a whole foot long. I needed a ‘sensible’ sized handbag just to accomodate it and it’s not insignificant weight. I remember how exciting it was when it would ring, my daughter and I were in awe. I’m pretty sure it is a museum piece now. I kept it just to remind us how far we’ve come.
My first phone was a Nokia 3210. EVERYONE had one. Snake was the best!
my first mobile was a simens. Brilliant! I still keep it.
It was a pay as you go meant for emergency use only in readiness for moving rom the city eith its call boxes to a rural home. I was totally confused by the process of activating my SIM card and using the right password. Then there were the complications of which keys to press for a particular function. It was an expensive item too so must not be mislaid! remember though…this was 20 years ago!
I was so excited when I got my first nokia 3310 it was just like a tamagotchi you could`nt put it down I even customised it with smiley faces housing cover ahh fond memories of the old days.
It was a great new gadget. It only had basic functions and no camera, but the new concept of being able to get in touch with all your friends and family with such ease at any time when out and about was great. When you look back now, its amazing to see how much the technology has progressed. What will the future bring for mobile technology?
My first mobile phone was an extremely large black one, much like a TV remote control. I thought it was great. I wish I’d kept it, it must be a valuable collectors item now.
As I Have Never Had A Mobile Phone I Have To Say Nothing.
My first mobile phone was a Samsung SGH-E250, it seemed like it had everything in 2007, but compared to the phones of today it seems like it had very little!
my reaction was how do you work this and even after 2 years i still am trying to work it out
I remember me and friend going together to get the same phone. Our numbers were the same apart from the last number. That was 13 years ago now and we both still have the same number – I have even had some calls for her, although she promises that she has never used my number by accident!!!!
I like the Sony Xperia P Smartphone competition.
I was very reluctant to get my first mobile, insisting it would be for emergencies only, but it didnt take long for me to get used to having it. I still used it sparingly for emergencies but enjoyed playing the games on it and sending and receiving the latest joke that was going round.
I’ve never had a phone so if i win this it would be a great experience!
I bought a little grey Nokia for myself about 15 years ago. Paid £99 and it lasted for years. Still have the same SIM card in use as it’s a pay what I use contract that they no longer offer and it’s a great back up number.
Complicated and confusing
I got my first mobile in 1999 a Motorola C520 and i thought i was the bees knee’s! Looking back i am embarrased! It was huge and the ariel was a good inch long! I walked around with it as proud as punch and i will even admit to pretending to be talking to someone to show off! O the shame!
I have kept my very first mobile phone as I cannot believe how big it is. People say about their phone being like a brick but my first phone was literally the same length as a house brick and about half as wide!!!!
My first mobile was forced upon me by my parents to they could keep track of me. It was the size of a brick and had Snake on it.
Chunkiest phone around – thought it was the coolest gadget out at the time!
What I remember most about getting my firstt mobile is amazement as how suddenly everyone had a mobile phone. I spent a year in the USA and when I left the UK no one had one as they were too expensive then contracts were introduced and they became affordable, so I got one asvwell
It was years ago so I don’t remember too much, I just remember it taking ages (credit checks pre-internet) and walking out with a huge brick-like thing with an aerial and rubber keys!
Mine was a nokia 3310 when i was about 13. I loved it! I used to constantly play snake and when i put credit on it used to go in an instant as my texts were 25p!
My first mobile phone was a Nokia 1100. My parents got me that when I was going to start with college. Was a cheap but very reliable phone and it stayed with me for two of the best years of my life.
I got my 1st mobile on cotract around 1995 and basically was paying £40 a month to make one or two calls per month as the calls were that expensive.
I did save money on a Gym membership as I was carrying about a half brick each day and I also didnt need to worry about mobile insurance as you could see the phone from space.
Took ages 4 me to recognise my ring tone. Missed loads of calls.
my first mobil was a nokia (brick)it was like going into a new world being able to contact people every were much fun was had the best infention of the 20th century by far just look
what you can do with a mobil now ,play games ,take photos ,comput, and very good for safty reasons in this day and age, and avalable to everybody
capture 2D and 3D panoramic images,
fantastic sharpness and colour clarity
I had a house brick supplied at work, although it was not very sophisticated it was a real buzz to have one!
Just the best feeling ever.
It was a steal, got it on a cashback deal, so over a year I was £30 in profit, the proud owner of a mobile phone and had reduced my land line costs by using the inclusive minutes instead. Brilliant.
I’ve never had a mobile phone before so winning the Sony Xperia P will be unimaginably exciting!
The first mobile phone I bought was the size of a brick and weighed about the same and had a battery life of a couple of hours and took all night to charge – the phones today are pure heaven and the big screens are great for my old eyes.
I remember getting my fist phone on one 2 one contract with free calls all weekend and phoning everyone i knew and telling them that i had a new phone with free weekend calls all weekend!!!
Mine was getting the old ‘fish shaped’ vodafone mobile. It was like a brick compared to now.
First mobile phone I had was the size of a House brick and it kept losing connection it drove me mad…also people would not phone me as they were scared at the cost of calls, how things have moved on.
my first mobile phone was used sony, which I got as present from my friend, it was great I tried to show it to everyone as not many people could afford to have a mobile
My first mobile was like a house brick. Texting was a bizarre first experience
My first experience with a mobile phone was magical to say the least. I was about 10 or 11 years old when I got my first phone, it was a Nokia 3310 and I loved it dearly, it let me play games, send texts and make calls, what more could you ask for in a phone? I remember when I only had to charge the phone once a week because the battery life was amazing. My first phone was almost indestructible, I remember dropping it on purpose a few times to see how strong it was and each time it survived, nowadays if you drop a smartphone the screen is the first thing to go and replacing that is expensive! I also remember about being able to customise the ringtones or even buying skins! I loved being ably to switch between different casings and I was always buying different ones.
Bought a car – the phone was in it
OH! My first mobile phone was as big as a brick stone and very heavy. I could only snd a short text an make a call wich was expensive. There is no comparison to todays phones. In only a few years the technology moved so much that you can do absolutely anything on your phone. I love it!!!
I had my first mobile phone in 1996, very exciting at the time just been able not to use a phone box was great.
First mobile phone was a samsung with black and white screen no camera and not even polyphonic ring tones. I bought it online and absolutely loved it.
My first mobile phone was very basic and I purchased it for the carephone warehouse I still have it and it’s still working if a little worse for wear!
My first phone was the Nokia 3310, everyone in school had it. We would spend all day making our own ringtones with that flashy ringtone maker it had!! haha
My first mobile was back in 1995 and heck it was a brick, but made me feel like I was someone, sad I know, was great getting to know all the new features it had,
My first phone was the the sony erricson xperia x1, the first windows 6.5 phone with a keyboard. I was so excited that I could not sleep unitill it go deliver and I played with a for a weeks like I was a kid in a sweet shop.
I was about 11, maybe younger. I got a phone of a family friend for £5, it was a huge brick one I think it was on Orange and it had one of those aerials you had to pull out to use. I remember not having anyone to call at the time so kept ringing home asking when coronation street starts! haha
I went into a shop and picked up the phone, paid for it, and went home. Simple.
Got my first one back in 1999. The proverbial ‘brick’, stuffed in my pocket I looked like I was always pleased to see you!. It could make/receive calls, text and that was about it! All that was needed really, back when life was simple.
was about 15 years ago and i am still learning how to use it
Not many features!
One of my friends go a few on special offer, it was a bit of brick, but back in them days they all were. I only knew 2 other people with one and these things took up a whole pocket with the ariel sticking out the top. It was more of a hindrance than a neccessity. It lasted about 5 years though and then the phones were all tiny.
First phone-half a brick, calls only, single tone ringer.Back in the dark ages but ‘cool’ at the time !!!!!
I got my first phone from virgin when i went in the shop i had no idea what i was doing but i got talking to a member of staff who told me everything and what do i want from a phone – i decided what one to have after some time, and the member of staff who helped me added his phone number to my phone book – i went out on several dates with him after.
My first mobile was when I was back in college in the 90′s. Only a few people, maybe 4 or 5 had mobiles but we all had the same one. It was an old Ericsson with a large rubber antenna on top. It was in the gadget to have at the time but its one major flaw was that when you received a text message, it would not display the persons name, even if you had their number saved. You literally had to remember people’s numbers via the last three digits. Still, a very phone good none the less.
My first mobile was when I joined a new job and got my first pay check !! it was a big and heavy handset in those days !!
But was very excited to own a ‘mobile’ then !! Coincidently, never really got rid of it …. and my little kid uses it as a play phone now
it was a brick !!!
I needed a backpack to carry my first “mobile”
that was an experience.only got a simple alcatel when first came to uni 13 years ago…thank god i knew those two simple buttons,,red and green.progressed since then..hehehe i can even text now..
it was 1994. i was ahead of the times (i was 17 at the time) it rang on the bus and i didnt know what to do – answer it? ignore it? it didnt matter, the bizarre look on everyones face said it all. i jumped up and got off at the next stop, lost – no google maps – just this brick with a plastic aerial i had to pull out – how times and technology have changed!
its was the first Motorola that was out i called it a brick because its was heavy and similar it was my favourite gadget and fantastic that i could be anywhere and except calls or texts,a great invention and the best ever
It was a Strange Experience…
Exited. Happy … Nervous. cool.. hip and the feeling of Safety…
It was many years ago now..
But i still remm the emotions it brought me
this is a fab phone
our first “mobile” phone was a motorola, about the size of a vanity case and weighed a ton!! still it was a real novelty item at the time, how times have changed!!
My first phone was BIG, but texting for the first time, was so bloody cool, I couldn’t imagine life without SMS/MMS now, back then it was (and still is) cool, quite simply the best idea ever!
I only got my 1st phone a couple of years ago i still have it an iphone 3 its was donated to me by my Son who bought a new one as he came home worse for wear and thought he had lost it but it was under his sisters bed but didnt dare tell anyone as he knew we would be livid, so he gave it to me. I can truthfully say why did i not get one sooner? it now has a cracked screen but its definately my 1st must have.
I’m pretty old, so you can imagine, my first mobile ……………..it was a brick !!!!!!
I was 13 when i recieved my first phone 10 years ago, it was a plastic blue motorola i remember being upset that i didnt get the typical nokias that everyone had, everyone at school laughed at me as i would take it every where but could never use it as where i lived i had no signal, A sad story for a 13 year old.
got my first mobile back in the 90′s, it was a nokia brick with a little aeriel, it only worked in certain parts of the country due to the poor coverage back then.
awkward!
given to me as a gift by my colleagues who knew I thought little of this new technology!
I got my first mobile phone in 1990, it was like a brick attached to a breeze block.
I was out shopping with a friend in Bournemouth and had no intention of buying a mobile but there was a good offer on so I surprised myself and bought one! Well it was a Motorola and I loved it and got a bit shy when it rang not knowing who was calling and how embarrassing it could be? Loved it for years until someone broke into my fathers house and stole it while we were asleep. Bought several phones since but there is nothing like your first love is there?
I got my first mobile phone back in 1996, when i was pregnant with my first child. I couldnt drive, and we worried about what ‘might’ happen if i was out on my own. He also had one ready for ‘the call’ and luckily when it happened, it wasnt a false alarm – i believe he got a big cheer when his mobile went off that day
I made my first mobile phone in the 70′s out of two tin cans and a piece of string, influenced by the Wombles who were ahead of their time with their mobile phones.
in 2003 i was a single mum with a two year old and my sister was worried about me it was a very simple i cant remember what it was maybe a samsung-sagen? my son had got it and was playing with it i thought nothing of it but i got it back and there were some keys missing he had eaten them, i sifted through his poo for a couple of days and found them,, washed them and put them back on, phone battery lasted ages,
Mine was a black brick – cannot remember the make and model though! I was really chuffed because I was one of the first in my class to get one so I would always have it out to show off! I would even pretend to be speaking to someone on it when I walked past a gang of ‘hunky’ lads lol just to show off!
It was very big and very heavy and it was’nt really mobile because I kept leaving it in the car.
It was fabulous..I couldn’t wait to get home and get the manual out
I hadn’t the foggiest clue – got talked into an expensive contract with a handset that looked like a nuclear fallout station – so many ominous buttons to press! Wised up quickly and have always done my research since!
It was a Carphone does that qualify, back in 1987! It took two hours to fit, about six weeks later I had my first bill of approximately £4,000, the phone number had been cloned and given/sold to many others.. It took months and the Police involved to sort it out… The bill eventually was £150.00.
I wasn’t too keen to have one but needed one to call home when delayed on the train. I had one of the first Pay as You Go phones. It was a Phillips phone and the size of a brick.
My first mobile phone was a Phillips, which I bought in the early 90′s and it was huge! My handbags were much bigger in those days to accommodate my mobile!
I was quite old when I had my first mobile. The camera was a separate item which you had to attach to the bottom. Being the technophobe that I am it took me ages to get used to it but I’m now pretty used to all the functions of the more modern, complicated phones.
My first was a BT cellnet….i thought it was the dogs bo!!ocks….geez if only i knew!
I held out as long as I could but broke Christmas 1999, it was a great little Sony, smaller than my phone is now!
My first mobile was a Nokia 8210 … was excited then, looking back, phones have moved on!
I had a motorola phone that was completely orange all over. My dad bought it for me for my 13th birthday. I took it to school to show off but other friends had the top Nokia and I looked a fool. Mine had cost about £70 and the Nokia was roughly £150. I went home in a mood but realised it was still a phone no matter what the cost was. I’d take it with me everywhere literally. One weekend I was in a friends car when it broke down roughly 6 miles from home – we had to walk, I got home and realised I didn’t have the mobile. I thought I’d dropped it somewhere. The following day we went back to the car and it was stuck on the back seat – I was so relieved!
Mine was in 2000 and I had a Nokia, it had Snake on it and I thought it was amazing.
I was about 11 and I begged my nan to let me have her Motorola. It was one of those old ones where you had the antenna bit on the top. The texting function was broken on it but I didn’t care. I just wanted the gadget!
It was a basic phone which had broken down within a year after I accidentally left it in my pocket and down into the washing machine it went!
Can’t remember my first phone. It was that long ago. It was a brick though!
my first mobile cost a fortune and was a Motorola M300, it was on a 1-2-1 contract, it was a plastic flip! thought I was the bee’s knees at the time.
Oh wow. I was 18, it was my birthday, and I went and bought the latest Ericsson. It had an aerial, took a sim card the size of a credit card, and needed to be charged for like a day before you could use it. I didn’t have it that long and the button needed to unlock it fell out. D’oh!
My first phone was a Nokia, and it was like a brick. It could only hold about 12 messages, so you for ever deleting them.
My first mobile phone was enormous but it felt brilliant using it as only a few people had them. Only problem was very few of my friends & family had one so didn’t have many calls on it.
I can’t remember the make or the model of my first phone, but it wasn’t really good because the signal was rubbish, it was heavy & i couldn’t take pictures of me, mymates or my family.
The Firs,t like all my phones I inherit them from my husband who has an annual replacement.. I’m not complaining!!
But it would be very pleasant to win one for me!
I got my first mobile in early 90′s. I got it from my dad (previously it was his mobile) it was a HUGE brick (ericsson ga6280) and It was too big to fit into my my clutch bag LOL but I was extremely proud of it.
My first mobile was so big that I had to carry a bag with me as it was too big to fit in a suit packet without it falling out if I moved!
I couldn’t do as much with my first phone, compared to the phone i have now.
I got mine 18yrs ago. It was a right old brick. I can remember my 1st bill was £160. But having a mobile back then was a novelty, and expensive. Ha ha..
I got my first mobile phone bought for me from my parents. I was about 13. (soooo long ago now..Lol) I can’t really remember the make but I think it was a Sagem. I can clearly remember what it looked like and I loved it to bits back then, don’t know what happened to it… it was a very basic phone, no colour screen, rubbish ringtones! Lol.. but then that’s what they were all like then… My daughter who is nearly 11 laughs when i tell her what it was like… lucky technology has moved on a lot from then otherwise my daughter wouldn’t be very happy with a phone like that…
i cant remember the make but i know it was as cheap and basic a phone as you could get! the amazing thing was i had that phone for years, while my friends were constantly getting new fancy phones i kept mine until it reached the stage i was embarrassingly behind technology wise!!
Needed it for work and hated using it but now they are so user friendly I would be lost without one!
I got my first mobile when I was 13 and it was the size of a brick! I never really rang anyone on it but I loved playing snake on it.
OMG – it was like I was “all grown up” – car next!
i was 20yrs old, first mobile was a nokia 3310, with a monochrome display
i thought it was impressive, used to take out out of my pocket in the pub so people could see it
even though i was not receiving a call, very sad
Got my first phone when i was little . it was a really big thing with a massive Ariel . It was on vodafone , and i always remember having to pay airtime , as well as talktime .
I loved it though , nowadays the phones are laughable , but i loved it . Used it all the time for texting and calling friends . Was so excited .
I’ll never forget the first time I had to use one! I had just started a new job and was given a Nokia and a lease car. I had always avoided mobile phones before but it was required in my new role to have one. I travelled to Ross on Wye for a meeting in pouring rain and the motorway was getting flooded. The rain just kept coming and coming and when I tried to get home the motorway had been shut. I was 60 miles from home and decided to try the country roads via Hereford. The rain still kept coming and the roads were getting worse and worse. Eventually the water was so deep I could feel the car starting to lift and had to get out and make a run for it! I ended up soaking wet on a farm doorstep in the middle of absolute nowhere but the people were lovely and miraculously I had a signal! I rang work in Wolverhampton – my first mobile call! – and all they could say was its not raining here. I ended up staying over night with this lovely family until my husband finally got through the floodwater in a Landrover to rescue me! The situation was alarming but really quite hilarious and I will never forget the wartime spirit in that farmshouse that night with all the other people who were stranded there too! I spent a lot of time on the company mobile that weekend sorting out recovery etc.
I remember it took me about 6 months before I suddenly realised I could send a text as well as call people! It was 1999!
I was the first out of my friends to get a mobile when they first came out when I was about 17, my dad brought it for me as a birthday present. It was a Nokia and I thought I was really cool.
Mine was a brick, so heavy lol
I’m old enough to remember when mobiles first came out, they were the size of a large brick and weighed a ton. Was very exciting though, being able to call people without having to find a phone box!
It was an enormous silver Nokia with an aerial. I got it for christmas when I was 13 and spent about £20 on the first day, texting my cousin in the same room.
I think it was the size of my bathroom!
It was like a house brick but when I sent my first text message I felt so advanced like I’d split the atom.
My Mum bought me a pay as you go Sagem handset. I spent a fortune texting my then boyfriend in Australia. The funny thing was, texts were only about 20 words max so we had to be very inventive with our phrasing!
I got a huge grey nokia with the snake game, those were the days!
Ha ha, I remember my first brick of a nokia and spending hours playing snake! when Snake 2 came out it was ground breaking!
My first mobile was a Sony “Mars Bar” when i was 16 in 1992. Hardly anyone had mobiles then and it was a HUGE deal! It was amazing! my sister and I felt very special. I still remember going out shopping and we used to pretend that we were talking on the phone and people would look at us in complete awe! Thank goodness it didnt ring while we were pretending!!
I was about 11 and I think my first phone a Nokia 3210. Looking back now, that phone lasted me a very long time and never broke despite how many times i dropped it (even once down the stairs). Phones are so much more fragile these days..
when l got my first mobile phone l was like a dork l did not think l needed to speack to people that bad it felt silly talking whilst out doing the shopping walking round morrisons but then l relised it was a essencal part of my life now and need it l would not be without it
Mine was a Motorola and it had a little antenna on the top, it was big, but served a purpose
Oh my, do you remember the old Rabbit phone? Didn’t have continuous coverage, you could only use it in a rabbit hotspot… Like Little Chefs. I was less than impressed!!
My first mobile was an Ericsson, they don’t even exist anymore after being taken over by Sony!
My first mobile was the size of a brick and the same weight, ”but i did look cool”
unbelievable
My first brick was nokia 3210, ironically the most reliable phone I have ever had! Tesco were doing a deal on them and all my friends had them too!
My 1st mobile resembled a brick but couldb perform the basics, well.
I still have my first ever mobile! Never needed anything else but its just starting to go wrong. Was so long ago, I can’t remember where I got it from.
I spent what was probably a fortune on a Sony CMH-333 mars bar phone in 1992, when barely anybody owned or used a mobile phone. At the time I worked in a well-known toy factory which had a raised central office. In the office were phones and the potential for fun… Wait for the manager to step outside the office, call his phone, laugh when he goes back in to answer it and hang up just before he does. Very funny. Do this many times (well hidden of course) until the tears of laughter make it too difficult to see the office. Brilliant fun.
I can’t actually remember using it for anything else though!
It was around 1999 i think, I had a sony eriksson which was rather large and and had a huge ariel.. it was a cool phone because you could personalise ringtones by using the keys to compose music like you would write a song using chords. my friend programmed an oasis song into it..it was awesome.. I was gutted when i lost it after a night out
I got my first mobile in 9th grade. I chose it merely because it looked good
My brothers 16th Birthday present to me 12 years ago was my first Mobile. I thought I was the coolest thing around with my new mobile!
I can’t remember much about it apart from it was a brick and took me forever to learn how to use it!
Getting my first mobile phone was so exciting, I remember picking it up and wanting to play with it immediately…but back in those days it had to be charged for 24 hours first so the excitement soon died down and I was resigned to watching it charge for a whole day before I could actually play with my new toy!
My first phone was the size of a brick when I got mine in the mid 90′s , I was the first and only one in college to have a mobile first!!
I was young and I dropped it in the bath! ㅠㅠ
this will be my first mobile phone
back in 1991, I queued for 5 hours from 5 in the morning to be able to get my hands on a mobile phone that weighed a ton. It doubled up as a weapon.
My first mobile phone was a blue nokia 3310, I loved it, had saved up and bought the pay as you go option, got home and charged it, set it up and started chatting/texting friends while sorting out the house, went to the sink where the washing up was waiting, and ‘splosh’ my new phone was very wet, covered in fairy bubbles and very broken, I had owned it less than 24 hours …. absolutely gutted! Purchased another one the following month. I lived and learned and am now more careful with my phones!
I was 17 years old and it was a purple vodafone mobile. I remember being the first of my friends to get a mobile and it taking me ages to write a simple text, I’m much quicker these days!
Didn’t want one, no way was I having one, NO WAY! Then the (ex) wife gave me her old analogue one(haven’t a clue on the model sorry) which was on 02. Made good use of it mainly to make sure where the children where when they were younger.
i was given a mobile to use in the car of all places, it was a brick, i needed extra suspension to have it in the car. thank god they went out of fashion quick lol
I came to the world of mobile phone technology relatively late, mostly in protest at all those I encountered on my train commute home who would bellow loudly into their handsets, telling their wives that they were on the train and discussing what they would have for tea. I was much the same with Facebook, I like to join a trend almost when its over it would seem, but my first mobile phone was a Nokia, about 10 years ago now I suppose, and its fair to say my choice in mobiles has improved along the way, as all you could do on the first phone I had was phone someone, now I can practically run the world using my Samsung Galaxy S2, ah memories of dodgy buttons that would stick and annoying ringtones are flooding back.
Oh my word it was the Nokia 3210 and I still have it in a drawer and look at it every now and again. How i remember getting and thinking emergency only….ha, now i wouldnt know what to do if i didnt have a mobile phone. I remember getting it from Littlewoods catalogue on special offer and paying for it weekly, i also bought my boyfriend one at the same time. hahaha…memories indeed
I Felt like James Bond.
In-fact i bought a suit
a watch and a nice set of shoes to go with it
Shaken not stirred
Would love that same Feeling Again……….
My first phone was a Nokia 5510, the one with the screen surrounded by a qwerty keypad, useful & I still have it out of sentimentality.
It is going back so many years but I do remember I brought it from the local shopping mall and it was a bulky but basic Nokia. I was so proud of it at the time!
a little gold fone from argos by vodafone, loved it, but looking back it did nothing lol
I remember the huge mobile phones of the 90′s and when my dad (a del boy wannabe) got a new one he gave me his cast off. It was so big it wouldn’t fit in my bag so it was just put away in a drawer and forgotten about. If i keep it long enough I’ll be able to take it on Antiques Roadshow.
My first mobile phone was a Nokia 1208 and it was delicious.
I was about 14 and it was terrible. When you sent a text you couldn’t go the phonebook to click and add the number you were sending it to, so I had to carry around a bit of paper with everyone’s numbers on. To make matters worse, at that point in time you had to buy airtime with Vodafone, not great for a teenager with hardly any money
it was a brick so only used for a few weeks and never got one again until the flip fones came out
Being quite poor I was way behind when it came to getting my first mobile phone. It had no brand name and large pads that needed pressing down quite firmly. It was a heavy hand held gadget that most of my friends referred to as a brick! It was very embarrassing at the time!
I was old when I got mine lol in my late 20s! Never saw a reason to get one before then!!! It was a Nokia 3210 simple convenient and technology I could use! Now adays mobile phones are a little more complicated but having a gadget freak hubbie I dont mind!
It was a brick !!! It was a mobile phone but the weight of it made me NOT a mobile person !
My first phone was a Sony Ericsson, it wasn’t new, it was one of my parents old phone which they didn’t want any more and so gave it to me and my twin sister, identical phones. I thought it was awesome at the time but compared to my touch screen now, I would never go back to it even if it meant not having a phone at all. The best feature of my first phone was Infrared (hahah).
Big and only mono display but, oh, so proud!
I got my first mobile when I was at university – a lot later than all my friends and I loved flashing it for the first few months
I remember getting my first phone in 1994 a brick of a phone with a pull out aerial. How times have changed
Mine was a Nokia 3210 aswell, I thought it was the bees knees, the height of sophistication and felt like an IT girl as I took phone calls on the move and played the new state of the art game called ‘snakes’ which had amazing graphics.. and required a high level of skill and precision. I remember it like yesterday, that brick transformed my social life and I LOVED IT!
It was back in the mid ’90′s, and it was a huge brick Motorola with 2 lines of black and white text that took the whole sim card, not just the push out part. Weighed a ton, but when text messages first came out I thought it was the best thing ever invented!
I loved my first mobile phone. I had to keep it on silent though in case my parents found out I had it. It took ages to send even the shortest SMS in the days before predictive text. It even had an aerial you had to pull up to get a signal. Showing my age now!
I had just turned 18, got my first full time paypacket, so went to carphone warehouse and signed up to a contract for a Nokia 3210, and brought blue front and back covers. Still to this day the best looking phone i’ve ever had
nokia 3210 … used to think i was so cool, watching round with it playing my ringtones like ‘kick’
I originally had a Motorola something-or-other but I switched to a Nokia 3210, which I had for ages.
I loved that phone. Changing covers? GIMME! Snake? GIMME! ‘Ringtone composer’ GIMME!!!!!!!
My then boyfriend and I bought our first phone between us, a Motorola brick (although that wasn’t actually the model name)and we felt really special owning it. We shared it as the monthly cost then was sooo expensive and to use it was something like 42 pence a minute. This was about 20+ years ago. How they have advanced
It was a Nokia 3310 and it had a lovely Tigger case! but someone stole it at school
I got my first mobile in the early 90′s for emergencies, after an incident in my car. It was a Sony phone and I paid £360 which was a lot of money back then!! So I got it from a catalogue. This was pre texting, pre inclusive bundles, pre free phones etc and none of my friends had a phone then either. Very different days!!!!
It took me a while to learn how to text etc. but now I’m a whizz at it
My first phone was LG phone which I got on contract and I was so happy as it was a luxury at that time. It was smashing little phone with basic futures but I loved it!
Magical
It was about 1997 and I was 22 years old. I was delighted to be joining my mates in owning a mobile and ended up having a little too much to drink in celebration. I fell over while walking home and didn’t realise in my inebriated state that my brand new phone had fallen out of my pocket. I really enjoyed my first twelve hours of mobile phone ownership!
Mu first mobile was the old Motarola brick, I was thrilled to receive it as a present from my then partner. Not so thrilling was the first bill as unknown to me my young son was sneaking it into his bedroom of an evening and ringing all his mates!
It was a Nokia (forget the type) but this was in the analogue, pre-digital times and was the size of a brick. Always fought against having one prior to that as I’m pretty old school, but as I’d taken on a new job 200 miles from home, it was going to be the best way to keep in touch with the family.
I found out it’s worth 3 months later after a horrendous storm when I lost control of my car, and rolled it into a farmers field. You can immagine the phone call… “Hi hon, I bet you can’t guess where I am?”
The first few days I couldn’t use is so right way…I had to learn how to use exactly:DDD
Got mine about 15 yrs ago as a present for my 48th birthday. Didn’t see the point in it. Used to leave it at home when I went out. Well how times have changed I couldn’t be without a mobile now.
I was so excited getting my 1st mobile phone. it was a motorola and i loved it, sending my 1st text with too many spaces so the word was s t r e t c h e d,using 1 finger at a time.
it was quite big and i had a silly ringtone and text message tone.
ih what will we do if we didnt have a phone these days lol
Sheer desperation to get one to keep in touch with friends. Sheer horror when I got it running up the bill. NOW looking for a Sony Xperia P mobile phone seems it’s the only one that’ll keep up with my lifestyle
It had to be a Nokia 3210, with changeable covers – so I had Harry Potter on mine x loved it x
It was exciting.
thought i was at the cutting edge of technology with my virgin timeport phone, seems rather antiquated now!
ah my first phone was a motorola..i was 17, there was no such thing as pay as you go so mum had to get it for me on a contract with no free minutes and i was sooo impressed with it. it had an option in the menu called ‘text messages’ that wasnt enabled and sounded sooo futuristic it didnt seem possible that you could type in a message on a phone!
My first mobile was a nokia, and all it you could do was text and phone on it. Oh no, you could play snake – I loved snake
I got my first mobile phone at a car boot sale, I was obsessed with it! spent hours on it texting people and playing with the ring tones.
I got my first mobile phone in 1998. It was a Motorola brick! There was a sales rep in the shopping centre where I lived and I must have walked past him about 5 times before I plucked up the courage to go over. Got it home and spent quite a long time choosing my ringtone!
I felt like a hypocrite, ’cause I’d sworn that I would never get one!
I needed a wheelbarrow to carry my first phone. It was a Nokia and it was huge, I was so proud of it.
My first mobile was the Nokia 8110 ‘banana’ phone. Back then with the curved sliding cover, and its association with the Matrix film, it was the bees knees. How phones have moved on.
I was 18, it was a brick but I loved it!
I got my first mobile at 18 because I insisted I never needed one and didn’t want to follow the crowd as they were only just becoming popular, but when I finally gave in I loved it and spent three days calling people from the next room and texting people sat next to me! (and hours playing Snake of course)
My first mobile phone was in the mid 1990s – it was a nokia ‘banana’ phone – so called because it was sort of banana shaped with a slide out keyboard. I though it was the height of cool but only used it for ‘emergenices’ and would jump and panic if it ever rang.
I didnt get my first phone until i was about 18 it looked like a brick and was rubbish how times have changed with these smart looking phones from there size to there power
My first mobile was a Nokia and was green but I cannot remember what model it was. It was the size of a small brick and had a very small black and white screen. Just calls, texts and the snake game was all it was capable of.. Such a difference to what phones can do today!
It was one of those old Nokia ones built like a brick. I was desperate to get one in order to stay in touch (read: nag/spy on) my boyfriend…I was 15. The boyfriend dumped me soon after, but the phone was brilliant…you could play snake whilst bored senseless on the bus home!
My first mobile was the size of a house brick, weighing a ton, & came with a shoulder bag. It was so long ago I have forgotten what make it was now. How things have moved on – thank goodness.
A Nokia, not quite brick-sized, but definitely half-a-brick! Even so, it was a works phone and got lots of envious glances. it was a long time ago!!
I was 21 and it was a brick, but I was beyond excited. Didn’t even know what text messaging was!
I got my first mobile phone at age 11 when I first started secondary school. It was blue ( my favorite colour), but it was terrible!
i loved getting out my nokia 3210 and showing it off to everyone..and playing snake!
when I got my 1st mobile I couln’t text..and I still can’t.
My first phone was massive! It had a pull out ariel, and I rarely took it out with me because it was too big for most of my handbags!
My first mobile phone was brick that literslly just made calls. Plus, as no one else I knew had one it was a bit useless really as everyone at the time was scared to call them from landlines too! How far we have come since then lol
I got my first phone when I was 11, starting high school. It was an old Nokia brick (I dropped it I don’t know how many times, and it still lived!) and I was seriously addicted to it. I remember thinking it (and I) was soooo cool, especially playing music (James Blunt’s ‘Angel’) and playing Snakes! It was totes amaze. It actually got stolen when I was on holiday! Otherwise I’m guessing it would still be going to this day! x
Mine was back in the 90′s. I was the first of anyone I knew toi have one. Felt so posh!
I brought an expensive mobile and it is still the best mobile for me.
My first mobile was a basic piece and not that fancy. I used hate it.
I resisted getting a mobile for as long as possible but eventually caved in. The day I got it, it rang when I was on a packed train which made me jump out of my skin then, to make things worse I realised I had absolutely no idea how to answer the thing. These days, I rely on my mobile so much I don’t even have a landline . . .
my first mobile was amazing i used to text everywhere even lessons
I felt like a celebrity,i bought mine in the first few years that mobile phones were released.Heavy and poor reception and expensive but very useful.
i 1st mobile was a 1 that my nan gave me.horrible an big and even had a little arial on it lol.i dont even no what it was called but i can assure you it is well extinct by now.i will neva forget the embarressment of the ring tone going off on my school trip!
loved it. could now talk for hours everywhere and anywhere.
my first phone was off most of the time, and my current one is too, because I need a good smart phone!
My first mobile was the mighty Nokia 3210. Better call reception than my iPhone 3G any day!
My very first phone was a very old BT Cellnet pay as you go affair. It was the size of a brick with a display as small as a flea! Thank goodness technology has evolved since then!
It was back in 98 when I decided to get a mobile phone and ordered one via a known company (better to avoid negative publicity here) which never arrived in the post. After several complaints and letters I got a replacement… I ended up avoiding any internet or over-the-pbone order ever since
my first experience was quite horrible as I managed to leave it in the pocket of my jeans and put it through a full wash cycle within a week, which destroyed it utterly and completely…..which put me off mobile phones for a long while!!!
My first mobile phone was a BT Philips C12. I was around 11 years old, but felt that one step closer to adulthood since receiving it.
I ended up losing it within two weeks while playing hide and seek! But was scared to tell my parents for a long time incase they didn’t feel I was responsible to have another mobile phone.
It was 1994, I was 13, and it was a huge Nokia. It was so heavy I had to carry a calculator and thick diary in the opposite pocket of my school blazer just so that the jacket didn’t hang off one side of my body. Still, I felt incredibly cool. It was just a shame none of the other kids had one so I had nobody to call except mum and dad…which made it only slightly less cool!
my first mobile was a nice grey aqua type colour nokia with the brill screnn (ahem) i was addicted to playing that graphical genius which was snake and i squealed with delight when i sent my first ever text. best ever phone it never broke down, screen never went wonky and i swear i dropped it in water and it still worked.
I have fond memories of my first mobile phone…it was the size of a brick and you couldn’t loose it in your handbag & if you were out late at night you always felt safe with it in your hand. Not because you could call the Police on the spot but because it was large enough to use as a deadly weapon should an attacker ever approach! I loved mine
My first experience was yes excited to own my very first mobile but very disappointed that it took up far too much space in my handbag !!
It was a big blue brick, no idea what make, but it had an aerial you had to extend to use it. Yup, I’m that old. ><
Mine was Nokia bought about 8 or 9 years ago – no camera, no internet, no games, it could hold 50 texts, had a temperamental signal… but I loved it! It completely transformed my social life. Will never forget it.
My first mobile was a Motorola V66 – the thing I was most excited about was pretending to play Star Trek with the clamshell design.
haha my first phone was a sony walkman, and i thought i was so cool using it.. lost it after a couple of weeks though! damn my 13 year old careless self…
Great experience and move forward to join the ranks in the world of neat comms!
My very first phone was a Vodafone MN1! I had it in school! Always had older phones as family couldn’t afford alot. I remember being jealous of my friends when they had Nokia’s coz they had Snake on their phone which was the ultimate game for break times! That was in the 90′s! Now I had an old LG phone that is scratched and battered! lol Things don’t change
my first phone was a motorola c520 which i got when i was in college. you have hammered nails in with it. if it wasn’t for texting i don’t think i’d have ever used it.
On my 11th birthday, I became the very proud owner of a Philips savvy dB, a.k.a, the brick.
When I woke up the next morning and slipped my hand under my mattress, I remember thinking that the phone would not be there; It would merely have been a spectre that was conjured up by my hyperactive imagination.
Yet, to my pleasant surprise, I felt its soft casing meet my doubting hand.
Toying with its rounded rubber antenna, I referenced its physical dimensions with those from memory.
Once I had established that it was indeed the same object, I remember closing my eyes and thinking “I actually have a mobile phone; It wasn’t a dream.”
I still have that phone and often take it out of the drawer to hold it.
Even though most of the magic has left its worn shell, its presence in my life will always hold, a special place in my heart.
My first phone was huge and the battery pack was even bigger! I had to buy a larger bag to carry it around. I only remember using it about 3 times!
I was given a mobile as a present, but I was not interested until years later when smartphones became available.
mine was a Motorola , the size of a brick with a Ariel, loved it thought
It was a big clunky clamshell type and I had it in a case that hung on my waste. It was brilliant to know I always had a phone i=on me, to always be in touch.
My first phone was a Motorola flip thing, it was so heavy and would not make or recieve calls without the stupid thin aerial pulled out. It made calls and that was that, no texting! Great fun.
I started to sell mobiles after seeing the Hutchnson Rabbit network and got a dealership with Cellnet which provided me with a Panasonic F1 about the size of half a brick which ws state of the art back then. It was almost impossible to sell mobiles back then, EVERYONE I know has told me at some point that they would never own a mobile and wouldn’t have any use for one. Better still, in 1998 we attended a dealer exhibition at the NEC where the UK head of vodaphone did a talk and told us that by the year 2000 there would be a million handsets in the UK which we all fell about laughing at. He was being pessimistic as it happened but since calls were 50p a minute and sales were very hard it didn’t seem that way to any of us back then.
My first phone was gifted to me by a friend, I remember getting very excited and playing that snake game in nokia phone all the time.
I was driving my car and I heard someone talking and I thought someone had got into my car behind me — had to stop and find out what was happening — my son had changed the ring tone on my phone to fool me and it certainly workerd!
It was 1994. We didn’t have a phone at home and my boyfriend, now my husband, bought me a Nokia Orange Phone from Tandy. It cost £400 !
My first phone was a nokia 3210 which was mainly for snake then a phone second, but the first mobile phone i used was much more memorable it was my unckles car phone you had to drive to a location to get a signal and it sat next to the handbrake connected with a big curley telephone wire.
My first was a Motorola T720I, still works and has great battery life 12 years on, great encase your going somewhere you don’t want to have an expensive phone or nights out, A flip phone never goes out of style!
My mum bought me my first mobile phone for my birthday in 2001. It was a huge brick-like Bosch Orange Phone – I still have it. It’s practically a museum piece!
I thought “at last, I can ditch that BT phone”
My first mobile was an Ericsonn and at that time not many people had mobiles. not very stylish at all, a horrible burgundy colour that was genuinely the size of a house brick. Very sturdy though as I dropped it from scaffolding and it survived.
My first mobile was a brick (!) and I’m surprised it didn’t come with a great big red telephone box around it and all it could do was make calls, although the battery life was excellent and often lasted me 2 weeks without recharge…..could certainly do with a more modern mobile now!!
I am a 65 year old pensioner and still do not own a mobile, but if I did it would be,
Very slim,
Very elegant,
Very light weight,
Very compact,
Very useful to own ,,,
I was 13 and was one of the first in my year at school to have one! It was a Nokia, so simple, can remember the novelty of playing snake on it!
I got my first mobile phone when I was studying at college, and I saved up tokens from Diet Coke to get one! It took me weeks and weeks to save up the tokens, as well as getting friends and family to give me theirs, but I eventually got it! It was MASSIVE and actually had an antenna, and it came with the Diet Coke ringtone on it (but one of those beeping ringtones, not the style of ringtone you get now.)
The funny thing is… the phone I have now is probably bigger than the brick I had back then!
Ah my first phone, the incredible Nokia 3330. Loved making my own ringtones on the composer, playing space impact, snakes 2 and the amazing graphics! Also built like a brick and could withstand so much dropping and throwing around and would never break! What a phone!
picked it up from the shop in a hire truck. was helped by three members of staff to load it onto the van. took it home at a very slow speed due to the weight. At my destination a small rented crane help unload it before a JCB assisted me in taking the back off to insert the sim. Once this was done and the monolithic battery was charged i placed it onto and old skateboard and pushed it around the city centre. Being fashionable.
It was a Bosch Orange 509e aged 15, the coolest phone around until the Matrix flip down phone came around. I got hold of it cheap from another guy at school who managed to “acquire” it on his work experiance at Woolworths. Awesome phone, awesome times!
First mobile was a Motorola StarTac flip phone – Fantastic at the time but not very functional!
my first phone was a nokie 3310, I thought i was the bees knees. Calling anybody just to show off my phone and “casually” popping it out around girls to look cool. Just mentioning snake brings back awesome memories too.
22 years ago! I think it was a motorola. I wouldnt leave it alone to charge in case it went on fire lol
My first phone was a Nokia, a gift from my Hubby on our first wedding Anniversary….I was on clound nine with the surprise…..
Mine was an Ericcson built like a brick it broke when I hit a mugger with it he ended up in hospital pity about the phone though
I loved my 1st mobile phone. I am 40 now, so I was probably close to 30 when I got it. I had a pay & go deal which gave me unlimited calls to 1 nominated number, so I used to phone my husband all the time lol! It was pretty big, but not like a brick like the really early ones. It was motorolla & I loved the metallic champagne colour of it so much!!
it was in 1994 , i think it was a motorola. a 8inch x 3inch x 1inch brick. no games are anything fancy just a phone
i was excited my first phone was the s2 now i got a one s
My first phone i got when i was 15. It was a really old nokia 8810 or smth like that. Thats about 10 years ago , my dad bought it for me because every other kid in school had a phone apart from me
. When i got it i felt so priviledged when every other kid had it for 2-3 years time. Now days kids get their phone at 6-7 yo. Sad imo..
I didn’t know anyone else with a mobile phone for at least 6 months – it didn’t get much use except to play Snake.
my first phone was a philips brick. with a sceen no bigger than my thumb… i was 13 and finally deemed old enough by my mum. so she snuck the phone into my room the night of my birthday, set the ring tone to happy birthday and rang it to wake me up! best wake up ever.
It was like a brick with long…. aerial..we had to perched it high in a bedroom to get a signal.. don’t know why we bothered because only my sister had a mobile at the time..I gave to my mum to use, who talked round the garden with the mobile and tried to use like a walkie talkie.. are those where the days..and you could not use a mobile number to advertise unless you paid in person in cash..
mine was in the mid 90s & my Dad bought it for me as he insisted I needed one as I used to travel hundreds of miles every weekend & usually travelling across desolate moorlands during the night & early hours of the morning
is so good to get a smartphone
It was the size and weight of a brick with a battery that lasted an hour for calls or 12 on standby, but gave so many opportunities and freedom from fixed lines it soon became an essential part of my life. Back in those days all you could do was make calls.
My parents made me wait until my 13th birthday to get my first mobile phone, by then all my friends at school had one, I got a Nokia, I was buzzing! Wouldnt be given it today though! Since then I think I got a new phone every year lol.
I was 14, it was a Motorola. £10 a month got you 15 minutes talk time! No such thing as SMS.
I’m old.
My first phone was an early Alcatel, I thought it was the bees knees, my how thing have advanced.
I found my first phone on the bus, obviously I was excited to the max and to add to it I was addicted to an online game/site… Habbo Hotel. Soooo upon finding it (a nokia 3310) I decided to spend as much of the money as possible getting online credits. Not long after I found I couldn’t purchase anymore which kinda ruined the moment for me and my mobile dream was over… all this before I reached my destination too
I was 11. It was a Nokia 1100. I bent over at school and it dropped out of my shirt pocket, so I was bought a new one. I then dropped the new one in a mop bucket, and while picking it up, dropped it in there again. Haha. I bought a different phone after that. And kept that one for a whole lot longer than two weeks..
my first phone was a vodaphone, don’t even think it had a brand, it was awful, like a brick …but i could text! woohoo, i was down with the kids!
I dont yet have a mobile phone.Hence I’m trying to win one!
I was desperate for a mobile in 1997 and spent some of my student grant on it. It was enormous and after all that I was too embarrassed to take it anywhere with me!
I have yet to own a mobile phone! Never felt the need for one. But I wouldn’t say no to winning this one!
My first phone was along with a lot of other people a Nokia 3310, great phone, had some great times playing snake!
i got my first phone when i cleared my 10th grade exams.. it was the nokia 2700 classic. I wanted smthng more advanced but i was happy with it as my poor dad couldnt afford a more expensive phone…. I was Happy bcoz my Dad was happy…. hats off to u dad……. love you… i decided that i would buy my next phone with my own salary…. … i still remeber that moment…. when ,my dad gifted it to me.. the tears in his eyes and his smile…. love it
Mine was an old slow steam-powered Sony, but I thought it was the bizzz.
I got a Nokia and it was blue at the front and black at the back. I thought it was amazing. The only reason I got it was because I’d got lost in my car the week before and couldn’t get in touch with anyone.
The first mobile phone I had was a BT Cellnet Brick. The sim card was the size of a credit card, and it had three lines of text on it. The first thin I did with was drop it in the toilet because I wouldn’t stop playing with it, even though I could do pretty much nothing with it but text and call. I learnt the lesson of mobiles and toilets very very early….
An Orange Montarola, cost me £60 and I even brought a case I was so proud although I think I was bout 19, not like today when youngers as young as 8 have them and probably more upto date.
I look back now and think how big it was compared to the market today, but it was great for texting although I kept sending blanks whilst getting used to the phone.
my first phone was a sony and cost about £30 which i saved from my birthday money!
it had no games or internet or fancy ringtone but it was mine
Mine was a motorola and in fact i got two as part of the deal. Thought i was cool with this mobile phone as it was pretty early on in the mobile phone life cycle. To be honest i don’t think i made many calls from it but it was mainly so i could be contacted about jobs as i had just finished university.
I remember getting a Motorola. It had a single line lcd display and was enourmous but I loved it!
I remember it vividly.I was 20-just out of uni & had just started my first job.I was so proud of having my own money and as my first ever grown up treat,I bought a Sony phone. It was a slider and looked just like a Mars bar.The only other person I knew with a portable phone had one that looked like a house brick so I was so excited to show off mine, which was tiny in comparison.I loved that phone & was so sad the day I bought a new one.Oh the heady days of the 80s-but Ive been in love with ‘techie stuff’ ever since!!
It was a Nokia handset, which was much bigger and bulkier than the phones of today, and you could only use it to make calls – I did not even know how to text back then!!!
I got my first mobile phone after passing my driving test, so i could get help if i had car trouble while out on my own. It was so big and heavy my sons used to call it the BRICK ha ha
My first mobile was a Nokia 3310. I was about 16 yrs old and I wanted it so badly because all of my friends had the mobile phones and decided I will work and save money for that I gave tuitions to young children and work part time and afetr hard work for months I manage to buought my first mobile phone, and that was like dream come true. I was very very happy and proud of myself.
It was terrible… i didn’t know how to use it.
It was a beam me up SCOTTY experience!!!
I was overwhelmed and amazed.i couldn’t put it down
My first mobile phone…….Well, since mobile’s became a must have gadget, I’v always wanted one. But coming from a strict asian family didn’t help. As I was not allowed a mobile phone, due to some bizzare reasons! I remember crying for one, every night, begging for one, but my parents always said no!! I even decided to get one behind my parents back, but decided against it. All my friends aged 16 and over had mobiles and I didn’t. I felt so out of place. I’m sure people laughed at me too! So when exactly did I get my first mobile. I got it 4 years ago, as a wedding present from my husband! An LG mobile, which I loved dearly as it was my first ever mobile. And guess what……..I’v still got it!!
I Get my first phone was exciting! I was expected to use it for the rest of my teenage life because it was such a good phone at that time. Just within a year, much more better models developed!
My first – and current – mobile is an old Nokia that my sister gave me. By old, I mean ancient! It doesn’t even have a camera let alone internet access! Would love to win a super-duper new mobile with all the bells and whistles. Fingers crossed that you pick me, PLEASE?! xx
I am not a gadget person, so my children had to show me how to use it !
Got my first mobile phone as a cast off from my boss – a first generation Nokia. Same evening we went out after work and someone knocked my bosses drink over onto his new phone which turned it into a paperweight. However he bought another one so I could keep the Nokia. I remember fondly playing snake on it.
It was a Christmas pressie from my hublet. I’m not sure I forgive him for making me available to everyone who knows me, and some who don’t, 24/7 – but at the time it was a lovely gift
I have no idea what make my first mobile was, I remember it was secondhand from a friend and that it was rubbish!!! I could never get any signal and calls cost something like a pound a minute!
I it was a Motorola Flip – Yes that’s how old I am! But the bills were way too high to use the phone too much! I think I had 20 minutes of calls in my contract! But I loved the thought that I was in touch 24/7 – particularly as I was single! I used to keep checking it, as I got no calls!
My first mobile might have been a landline phone it was so big and heavy, it didn’t fit in my nice neat handbag, so I had to use a enormous granny bag. I wished I didn’t have one at all!
I have still got my first phone it was a ten pound Nokia with ten pound credit pay as you go. I still use this phone with a Tesco sim. The phone is excellent for texting and keeping appointments.
My brother had then recently split up with his wife, so he took her mobile phone off her and gave it me, approx 1997, it was a nokia basic one, only thing is i also had my ex sister in laws old number and was shocked when i had a phone call from an irate woman screaming at me about knocking her husband off, took a bit of persauding from me for her to understand: she had the right phone number but wrong person, hence brother got divorced, and the poor wife with the unfaithful husband ended up phoning me for advice. strange but very true.
it was a present for my 30th birthday off my husband and i loved it at the time but looking back it was huge compared to the mobiles of today but at least it did what i wanted which was simply to make calls and text. phones today do so many different things i would love to win a sony xperia it looks fab although i think it would take me a few years to work out how to use it!!
I recall that the batteries did not last very long, it was big and heavy and was viewed with suspicion wherever I took it.
My first mobile as a motorola , i had it for 2 weeks before dropping it in the toilet while i had had a few to many drinks , i was gutted , i then had to save up for another tuck me a few month before getting another
My first phone was the M301 on the Mercury one2one network. Costing £300 for the phone on the silver tariff £25 per month free weekend local calls to landline, 15p peak call, 5p off peak and free voice mail.
In a way call charges were cheaper back then but yet less people had phones those days.
You would of thought with so much people having mobiles now days call charges would be dirt cheap.
I await 4G which will revolutionise the way we use mobiles.
My first mobile phone was a Christmas present in Year 11 (I was 15). I was totally made up, it felt weird being able to send this unbelievable thing called a “text message” to my friend asking him about his Christmas day! This was only in 1999 too!
I got my first mobile phone when i was 15 as a Christmas presnt from my sister, it cost her about £15.
My first phone was on payg and took a sim card the size of a credit card. The calls cost 50p a min but the battery lasted all week, probably ’cause I hardly used it at 50ppm and there were no games or cameras on it. It was still a great feeling to have contact with me all the time just like it is now but the contact today is not just calls its text, email, eBay, PayPal and one day I will use twitter and Facebook as well aha maybe not xx
My first mobile phone would have been an old brick Nokia when I was about 13. I remember totally playing Snake on it while sitting on the field not doing PE at school. Loved it!
My 1st phone was a hand-me-down.It was a Nokia 3310 and belonged to my brother,it had been dropped one too many times and the screen had a crack in it but it still worked.Battery life was atrocious and thus had to be charged daily..but the worst bit was if I talked on it for longer than 45mins it started getting quite hot!
I was 11 when I got my first phone, it happened to be a Sony Ericsson, one with the trackball like movepad! My birthday fell on my yr 6 school trip, the first time I’d ever be away from home! My teacher surprised me with a box and said your parents asked me to give you this, and it was a phone, unfortunately, with all the happiness and shock, I dropped it in my cake, and a few days later as we were doing zip ropes, I smashed into the pad at the end of the wire and cracked the screen, I didn’t get a new phone till 13.
My first mobile phone was an HP Jornada 928. I had an Ipaq PDA until then, and thought upgrading to a PDA phone would be a great idea. I was disappointed though. The Ipaq had been comfortable to use, and the screen was excellent for its time, but the Jornada screen was a step backwards, and the whole thing felt too bulky :\
Living in India, it was such a great feeling having a mobile when very few people had
my first phone was a brick but i loved it
My first mobile was from work – so not good memories, it kept me on a leash. Although there was the one-up-man ship of having one…
My first phone was a Motorola Brick. After my sister had a really bad horse riding accident on the hills and was lucky her friend had a mobile to call the air ambulance thought it was prudent to get one also for when out riding my horse up on the hills.
The freedom I felt with that first mobi, but it was a motorola & was absolute crap.Gave it away 2 weeks later & got a nokia which was much better & easier menu.
But when I think back & compare all the mobis I’ve had & compare them 2 my current one a sony ericsson xperia arc they all seem like museum pieces. LOl
I was around 10-11 years old when i got my first phone, Nokia 3310. It was like love at first sight with Space Invaders game! I was so addicted to the game, i took it with me to the bathroom! lol
I was about 12 years old, it was a bright blue Nokia 3210…it was absolutely hideous but at the time I thought it was the best thing in the world! I only had it because my sister (who is 6 years older than me…) had one and I was adamant that I needed one too, but I was only allowed to turn it on in the event of an emergency, haha.
My first phone was a blue and black brick which I begged off my Mum. The best feature about the phone at the time was that texts were free because nobody really used them. The worst feature was that the keypad didn’t lock and I once pocket dialled my Mum when I was out and up to on good with some friends. Needless to say she was not best pleased and thus ended my phone owning days for awhile!
I got my first phone from Carphone Warehouse a long time ago! It was a Sony Ericsson T68i on a contract. Weird experience but I basically got to choose my phone number too! It was the first colour phone and quickly became envy of friends!
I had motorola as a first mobile. I used a lot.I still got that phone.
I can remember my Mum and Dad getting me one in the mid-90′s for my Birthday. Got a case with a belt clip on it and had it on display for all to see.
Mine was my 12th birthday bresent!
When when we had a digital package about 12 years ago it gave me my first free mobile phone. It took me almost 3 days to fathom it out & it almost went through the window on a number of occasions.
I loved my first mobile phone, it is still my favourite present I’ve ever received. It was a Nokia 5110 the covers I had for that phone! one for every outfit. The snake game was brilliant, I had that phone for about two years and only replaced it when the battery died, the screen was ruined and it had basically lost the will to live.
My first “mobile” was put into my car to save me having to stop at phone boxes to call clients in 1987. The first bill was over £400 for one month – nobody said anything about restricted use to save the bill before that!
I WAS 25 AND MY FIRST MOBILE WAS THE ERICCSON 1 TO 1 netowrk, it was cool because you could chat all day on weekends and all over UK. Nowadays to call anywhere in the UK is not as exciting as back in 97
My first mobile phone was a hand me down from my sister. It was an Alcatel One Touch. It was the size of a brick and it was light purple. I’m sure it still works today.
My first phone was an nokia when I was 12 or 13 – it was about the size of a remote control and had a massive antenna but I loved it! I had several different covers and played snake all day. Those were the days…
I had a very cheap Sony Analogue mobile phone and I was thrilled when my eighteen year old daughter phoned to tell me her A Level results. She had obtained her grades to study Optometry at Bradford University. Now a qualified Optician I am very proud and I still remember exactly where I was when I received that call.
I still use my first phone ^^
I got my first phone in 2005. It was a Siemens CX70. Not the best phone. But it worked well as a phone.
my first phone was a nokia brick.i felt so cool,i was paying 35p a min,but worth every minute
Hubby bought me my first mobile phone, it was an LG and looking back it seems so basic compared to what smartphones can do nowadays but I was chuffed to bits with it!
My first mobile was a Valentine’s Day gift from my loved one……now my husband!
I did not get my first mobile till I was 37! It was when I was pregnant and need to keep in touch in case of emergencies
It was basic and my girlfriend give me it. It was chunky and I left it on a bus. The phone I still have though.
My partner bought me my first mobile phone back in the 90,s because he was working away from home and he wanted me to be contactable at all times. I hated it at first because I felt like I was losing my freedom, but I know feel naked without it.
I cant remember the brand but the sim card was a credit card sized affair that you slid in thephone
My first phone was a Nokia when I was about 25 years old. I got some coloured buttons to funk it up and used it that much to text that I wore them down
my first mobile phone was a brick
my first ‘mobile’ phone was Nokia 5110. i absolutely loved it and i still do. Very reliable.
It had an antenna! It was a Nokia – absolutely indestructible and I carried it everywhere. Totally got hooked on Snake (of course) and haven’t looked back since!
My foirst mobile was a Nokia “BRICK”! Heavy, jet black, no bettery life, and a massive aerial!! Loved it!
My first phone was an old model Nokia bought a few years ago from a market stall, I still have it, it picks up a signal much better then modern phones can or don’t!!!.
I got one for christmas 1999. It was blue and all I can remember was that it was on vodafone.
My first phone was a nokia 3310 and I thought I was super trendy with it lol didnt have any of the amazing stuff now but god the hours I spent playing snake on it lol
My first mobile phone was a tiny pink Nokia saved up all my money only to find no network coverage where I lived!!
It was a tiny little dark blue flip phone, it could take pictures, and you could play games on it, I thought it was awesome!
I can’t even remember the name of the phone i had, but i remember texting my husband every hour or so to tell him I love him. Awwww.
I had a giant sizes Motorola that could have smashed a window if you threw it at one – yes I am quite old lol
I can’t even remember which phone i had. But i was well excited to get one.
It was a second hand phone, one of those chunky nokia ones, with a small screen. It had the game snake on it, which I loved playing!! It seems so old now!!
I got my first mobile phone when I was still at middle school and it was such a surprise when I received it as a birthday present because I really didn’t expect it from my parents since they didn’t agree at the beginning but obviously they had changed their mind since then.
My mobile phone helped getting in touch with friends but also with my family when I needed it
ive only just got a mobile at the old age of 43 as im useless with tecnology now nothing stops me from texting to browsing the net
my first phone was so big and i had to carry around a battery pack, looking back its quite laughable that i thought i looked so cool hahahaha xx
My first mobile was a Motorola haha was like a brick lol i was never off it topping up all the time even knew a cheat for it haha like guessing the voucher number and getting £10-£20 free credit only worked twice but hey better than nothing lol anyways i lost the phone the end of the Motorola phone….
I got my first mobile phone when I worked for Vodafone! That was SOME TIME AGO. I think it was a nokia 6200 and it was one of the first GSM phones. It didn’t do much other than play snake SMS and call, but it was all free because I worked for them!
My first phone was a Nokia which my brother and I had to share, I was about 7 and he must have been 9. It was the best thing ever but I ardly used it because my brother always took it with him.
It was a Nokia somrething or other – just used it for calls when i was away on training course. Must have been the days before we all yearned a certain brand
my 1st mobile was the Nokia 6150 nk702 , it was a much anticipated birthday pressie and i was the envy of many haha, i remember looking at it thinking it’s soooo small, haha but now thinking back, it was like a brick lol
I’ve always had “hand me down” phones, so as my husbands contract has finished so i get it and put my pay as you go sim in it!! I’d love to win this competition coz then the prize would be my first ever new mobile phone!! Imagine when you run this competition again, and my answer would be – the phone I won on this competition, a Sony Xperia!! Now wouldn’t that be fab.
My first phone was a motorola in 1996. I was afraid to use it too much because of the call costs. but I felt so cool and would take it out of my bag, just to show it off!
a nokia and I didn’t know how to stop it doing that predictive texting
i had a nokia and the best thing about my phone was playing snake. it’s strange to think how such a simple phone would keep me entertained. i got my phone when i was at college in 1999 and it was just for emergencies really, as i didn’t know many people who had phones to exchange texts and things. my mum still has her phone which was the size of a brick! she thinks it may make a good antique one day
My very first phone was a small pink flip-up phone, I can’t remember the brand as I was about 9 but I just about recap running around the house with it, addicted to taking pictures of my cats lol! I also remember being quite annoyed at the fact that it had not a single game!!
Over the years I have had several more, but they were all quite similar, the colours ranging from a hot pink to a dull, metallic grey. Currently, I have a BlackBerry Curve, but it is very problematic and freezes quite a lot! If I won the Xperia I would make great use of it – I love the features it has!!
Thank you, – Emily xx
a nokia with no colour and the buffoon ringtone
The first ever mobile i bought was a motorola and it was like a brick but did what i wanted it to do as would be texting my then new boyfriend at the time, We would drive our parents mad with the constant beeps off our phone’s through texting each other and was worth every penny as 12 years on and 3 kids later we are due to get married on the 28th july
)
I thought I was so cool having my first mobile phone, I literally carried it in my hand all the time even though it was massive by today’s standards! It was a BT Cellnet model and was as big as my house phone is now!
I bought my first one about 15 years ago in a supermarket. They had some very basic nokia phones on offer, and I thought that would do me fine.
I got my first phone when I was about 10 years old. It was a Morotola, not sure of the model. But it was massive & had a huuge aerial!! I remember there being a S Club 7 phone case with a handle (so you could carry it like a bag) in my local post office. I saved up my pocket money for 5 weeks or so to buy it!!
Mine too was a nokia and I remember ‘The Entertainer’ was my ringtone and every time anyone phoned me I would search round like a fool to find where this tune was coming from, idiot lol
Would love this new Sony Experia it’s so stylish xx
I got my first mobile phone when i was 11 it was a Savvy Vogue -massive brick like thing i absolutely loved it and so did all my class mates
mobile phones have come a long way since then – thank goodness
I got my first brand new nokia (the rubbery indestructable one) for Christmas when I was 15, went to my friends house that evening, got a little bit tipsy with my friends, stood on it and broke it, I’d only had it 8hours! My mum was SO angry at me, I was SO angry at me!! Utter fail, had to spend a year and a half with a cracked screen as punishment
I was 16 and it was 1999. I got a BT Cellent phone and all you could do is txt on it,the signal was rubbish as soon as u were in the house or shop. I now have a sony erricson ray.

I was the last of all my friends to get a phone. I got my phone aged 16…everyone else had theirs from age 14. Then soon after getting it I accidentally placed the Motorola in a full glass of orange juice..better late than never I say x
My first mobile phone was bought by my hubby when we first married. It was a fantastic way to get a hold of ppl when I was on the road and away from home.
Blimey mobiles didnt come out till i was cough cough yrs old, my first one was brough for me by my hubby it weighed a ton & filled most of my handbag, i think it took me a year to work out how to use it properly, but i was the only one in my family to have one…i felt sooooooooo posh hahahaha !!!
My lovely big sis gave me mine as a Christmas present. : )
I was 12 and my first mobile was a sony erricson analog brick on bt cellnet lol old skoool or what

I was so excited to get my first mobile, and really excited every time someone called or texted me. The phone was quite basic and there was no surfing the net or great photos but it amazing just to be able to speak to people wherever i was
my 1st mobile was a nokia was simple to use my parents gave me it when i was 10 so i could call them if i needed to i felt great knowing i could call them anytime when i was away from them the more i used it the more i got used to it then i upgraded every year to better phones with more on them games was good in school break times
I got my first phone about 13/14 years ago, Not everyone had them then so nobody really understood why I wanted one so much, so my brother lent me the money to get it. I was so happy but when I think back it was hugh. xx
frst mobi 23 years ago, it was massive and the signal was crap and the battery lasted 4 hours, omg loved it though only rang me mum on it lol
My first ever phone was a Phillips phone and it didn’t do anything modern – I was in my 20′s at the time. All it did was text and it took ages to read the text as it scrolled along on one line, it didn’t have any symbols to use for SMS. I don’t even think they knew about SMS.
I remember my first mobile was a motorola, one of the first pay and go mobiles
My first mobile phone was so long ago, early 90′s, I can’t remember what it was, I do remember barely using it as it was so expensive to call anyone!
My first mobile phone was given to me by my company. It was like carrying a brick around in my bag and the battery was in bag which I slung over my shoulder. Oh! boy, am I pleased that technology has progressed.
My first mobile was a Bosch com 509 by my nan for my birthday bought from Littlewoods. I loved it but it cost me a fortune in topups back then in 1998. I got it only weeks after launch and it served me well for many years until I got my Nokia 3310. It had no games, no custom ringtones or anything all it was for was texting and calling. I was 18 when I got it haha! It was my 18th birthday pressie!
i had a tmobile ,dont remeber which one but was big and ugly compare to the one i have now but was very exiting, used to run when phone was ringing, hated to have miss call
My first mobile handset was a hand-me-down from my daughter! Reckon it’s mums turn for the latest techno gadget so that I can make her weljel x
It was Christmas Day and my boyfriend had wrapped up my phone inside a parcel and got a friend to ring the number
My first phone was the Nokia 8110 or banana phone in 1994. Every time I watch The Matrix it brings back memories.
I got my first phone (my mother’s old one) just before a residential weekend in school when I was in year 6. I went on about getting a phone for agessssss as all my friends had one and I promised I could look after it, only to go on a walk on the first day without my mum, and rest it on a rock whilst we all played a game of rounders. I walked back over to my stuff and went to pick up my phone when I noticed it was gone – a Dartmoor pony had stolen my blue and orange Nokia from the rock and there are some HILARIOUS photos of me and my friends chasing after the pony to retrieve my phone. The whole not telling mum thing was working so well until the assembly our school did on our trip when a photo of me running after a horse screaming was the first picture up! Luckily my mum didn’t mind, and unluckily I’ve not had much better luck with phones since!
my first phone was a nokia! i could only use it in emergencies!
I had my first mobile when I was about 14 years old it was a bt cellnet silver motorola and I was over the moon especially as my mum left about £11 in credit for me. All I mainly did was play snake on it :0) Happy days xx
I saved up for ages to get my first phone ( i didn’t get much pocket money) I was 13 and it was a nokia pay as you go brick lol
first mobile we ever had was from BT it was huge, cost a fortune to use, and always let us down at the worst ever time.was waiting for my daughter to give birth, she was on the delivery table, i was so tense. and just wanted to know what was going on. and the phone rings.and then IT JUST DIES ON ME. im going frantic. my husband calmly takes the phone out my hands as im going nuts at it, (very un-lady like words im embrarrsed to say)he then walks into the kitchen. takes the meat tenderizer out of the pot. walks into the garden. places mobile on the floor. AND SMASHES IT TO BITS, THERE WAS MOBLE FONE BITS FLYING EVERY WHERE. he then walks back in. gives me loads of change and points me in the neighbours direction and says “use their phone” !!!!! btw it was a boy after all that.
omg i had one of the first phones ever it was bigger than a brick with a huge arial, this was back in the late 80s (proves how old im getting)there was no such thing as ring tones or text let alone any screen or internet, and of course i was thourght i was the bees knees
I got my first phone for my eighteenth birthday back in 1997. It was an awful champagne coloured boxey thing. At the time hardly anyone had a mobile, so it was a complete waste of money as none of my friends had one lol. How things change. I would truly love this phone to be the envy of all my mates.
I was 16 when I got my first mobile in1991… Not many people had them back then…it was a brick lol but I thought I was the bees knees..
My first mobile was a Motorola with a flip up front. Sounds great but we are talking early 90′s here. The battery alone weighed around 200g and this phone would last on talk time about 10 minutes. At the time I thought that was good! It took an eternity to charge it up and you had to take the whole thing apart to remove the battery to do it! Good old analogue phones, could reprogramme pacemakers with it an everything! Not to mention the fact it was as heavy as a house brick! For some reason Miami Vice is in my head, think it just completed the look!
well what can i say it wasnt a patch on phones these days
size and weight of a house brick with a huge antenna.
but hey i had the freedom to call and text people when i wanted and felt great
I was 16 when I got my 1st mobile, My mum bought it for my 16th birthday, it was a red Sagem I think, I loved it,
My very first phone was a Motorola, I forget which model it was around 18 years ago, back in the days before text messaging! It made and received calls, sometimes
as signal was iffy back then. My Mum on the other hand had one of those huge mobile phones, one of the first ones ever out! It was mahoosive.
Got my first mobile in 1999 as we were visiting the USA,only to discover that my phone did not work over there:-( It was a Nokia and it only was able to Phone or text. It’s amazing how things have moved forward, unfortunately my phone has not.I still have a basic phone and admire smart phones from afar, maybe I’m not smart enough for one lol
My first phone was a nokia- i was maybe 14 when i got it and i was on the top of the world lol:-)
my first mobile fone was a nokia 3330… and we all thought snake was a great game! lol
I got my first mobile back in the early 90′s. Can’t remember the make of the phone, but I do remember that you could get it in black, fluorescent green or fluorescent orange colours – I went for the rather tasty orange colour! lol!
It was the size of a brick, and had a large, black aerial sticking out of the top of it. Oh, and there was no texting back then. We used the mobiles just for phone calls!
i was 14 and it was a brick, it was a motorola and a horrible green colour. but i thought i was so cool until my sister wanted a mobile and ended up getting a nokia fone even though i had asked a few times for a new phone. but the following christmas my parent felt sorry for me and bought me a new mobile, and i was able to play snake like the rest of my friends…:)
My first mobile phone was a brick like Nokia – one of the first mobiles – known to begin with as ‘car phones’. It was bought for me in the late 80′s by my parents for my safety whilst out in the car alone! I still have the phone tucked away in a draw, it has sentimental value and my 9 year old daughter is amazed at how big it is!
I just started a job in Japan, and my employer required that I have a mobile phone, so I did. It was rather useless by modern standards, but it had a camera two years before anything in the UK did.
The very first mobile phone I got was an alcatel & I felt like it was the best thing ever I had a case with it that attached to my belt & on a rare night out I went to the toilet & the next thing I knew my mobile fell into the toilet & never worked after that I was so gutted.
I got my first mobile phone when I was 12 years old. It was my auntie’s old pink flip phone which she didn’t want anymore, I thought it was amazing. It didn’t have any of the techy stuff we have now but it had one game and that was enough for me. I was allowed £5 top up a month which I never used it all because 6 years ago not many kids had phones so I didn’t have many people to text or call. But it was a bright pink flip up which was in my eyes amazing!!
My first mobile was about 14 years ago and it was basicly a strange shaped blue brick brought from argos, at the time I thought it was the best thing Since sliced bread!
I have never had my own phone , I always have my hubbys old phoned. Just for once I would like to have the best phone
I was 16 and it was a brick, pretty sure it was a motorola it had a stand in charger that didnt work properly after only a couple of months and you had to do a mad balancing act with it for it to connect to the pins hahahaha
My first phone was a blue sagem and came with a free matching cd Walkman
My first phone was the size of a brick but at the time i loved it.
my first one i had was in 1993, it had a pull up ariel and i called it a mars bar, as it looked like one!
At the age of 56 I’ve just got my first ‘smart phone’…a Samsung Galaxy Ace. Talk about smart phone, this phone is far smarter than I am…! I opened the box, took it out, then hadn’t a clue what to do next. We have the technology but we don’t know what to do with it!!!! Insert SIM…but where…which way round, face up, face down, where’s the idiot guide????? I had to wait for my 11 year old Grandson, Bradley, to come round & do it for me, & he sorted me out & even got my emails up & running. He’s one smart Grandson…thank goodness….Phew…..!!!
My first phone was a vodafones own make and it was champagne in colour my nan bought it me as a 13th birthday pressiie, i loved that phone! Was amazingly reliable and i started wearing tops to match the colour! Lol
I was about 13, and it was a bt one! I begged my parents for one as my best mate had one, and was over the moon! It was the only time I ever felt cool as a teenager!
My first mobile was a Nokia brick – you needed a backpack to carry it.
My kids said i go on like i’m on the enterprise whan i get a new phone,
Sometimes i think the way these phones are developing i will be able to beam me up scotty!! I have to sit down and go through the whole book and make sure i can use all the features!!
I love when my new phone rings so i can take it out in public and show off! lol. But i’m the same with my first and my last phone, always a pleasure to open the box and get started xx
You know your turning into a responable grown up (well thats what we like to think at 11) when we take the journey from a young primary schooler to the big ‘grown up’ secondry school. i was quite exited about starting secondry (yes i was/am a geek) and my parents brought me a mobile to show me how proud they were! It was one of those old pink nokias (yes the brick one
) I had that for years untill i was 14 when i got upgraded, over teh years i replace my phone when it breaks but i havent had a new one in ages!
Nokia 3210 about a million year after everyone else I knew got one! Fab feeling
)
I had my first phone when I was 15 – yes 15! lol, I had it a bit late because we went through a few financial problems when I was younger so it was all about the necessary things lol. But enough of that, the experience was good and funny because when I got the SAGEM phone (lol) I was so happy, thinking it was top notch. When I went to school the next day I took my Sagem out and was showing off, little did I realise that the reason why all the school kids were looking at me was because they had their Nokias which at the time were more posh and there was me stuck with the Sagem lol. Despite the big aerial, I loved it regardless of what anyone thought at that time. It was my first phone, and a bit like your first love, I can’t forget it lol
A nokia phone and it was my daughter’s cast off, still know how to work it and it was a simple phone that was quite limited in what it could do lol.
Mine was a bt phillips phone and was huuuuuuuuuge- easier to find in the handbag I guess…
i was about 30 never thought i needed one before that now i can not live with out my mobile
I was about 2000 and my mum took me to get my first mobile, i was so chuffed with it, that weekend i was having a girly night out. I phoned my mum quite earlyish in the night to say hello from my new phone. Then as the night carried on, the drinks got flowing, im in the toilets having a girly chat as you do, i get my new phone out to show my friend and i dropped it down the toilet, it disgusts me now but i stuck my hand down to get it, wrapped in toilet tissue, took it home hid it in the airing cupboard for about 3 days trying to dry it out but failed to get working i finally owned up to my mum what happened and iv had to by my own mobiles since then!
My first mobile was from a supermarket when I was in my late teens on pay as you go. It was an LG and actually was a really cool and simple looking phone but it doesn’t compare to those you get now! Think my favourite thing about it was being able to play snake and texting my friends but then it was limited to what it could do so happy to have more modern technical phones!
i got my first mobile phone in 1995, it was more like a house phone than a mobile phone and weighed a tonne. it was a bt phone and was on the cellnet network, no free minutes or texts then!!!
Oh I remember back in 92 chrissie present Nokia moby ,well it took me an age to learn how to use it but it made me feel right important and one of the crowd. Boy how times have changed
I was sixteen and it was a Phillips phone (birthday present) – blue with silver heart surrounding the two line display. And I loved it. Everyone had Alcatel and I had Phillips. I had the phone for about three years till I bought my own Sony Ericsson.
I loved my first mobile it was a Nokia and didn’t want to b without it, then my little sister put it down the loo, I was So so upset, and now it’s my little one that gets the new phone. It must b time for mummy to have a new mobile. Fingers and toes crossed. X
my first phone was sooo big it didnt even fit in my handbag !!!
My brother bought me mine when I was in my early teens as he was fed up of me stealing his! It was a good experience – cant believe how they’ve changed since my original Nokia brick I was so proud of!
never thought i would need a mobile till i got one when i was 30 now use it all the time and wonder how i got on before i had a mobile phone .
Oh geezzzzz!!
it was very long time ago, but i can still remember my first phone, it was samsung SGH-A800, flip-up phone, i was so exited opening the red box (virgin mobile) and seing this cute shiny gadget lol. I used it for a long time unfortunately theres no fancy APPS those days
Me and my hubby bought exactly the same phone for xmas gifts, unfortunately i accidentally washed his phone, i forgot to check the pocket ooopppss!
I was about 14, EVERYONE (or so it seemed) was getting mobile phones, everyone except me anyway. In class, on the bus and hanging out around town everyone was playing snake whilst I sat there pretending I didn’t want one anyway. Everyone else was up to date with gossip through text messages, except me! Then my older brother asked if he could borrow £20 of my birthday money, I was always loaning him money and would always charge him interest – well this time he said he couldn’t afford interest (My rates were high for a 14 year old school kid believe me!) and could he give me his old mobile phone instead … Ohhh Myyy Gossshhh yes!! It was a BT Cellnet phone, big and bulky and it didn’t have snake but I didn’t care one bit, I was so pleased with my phone.
I was so excited, it was a Nokia that you could change covers on, the only problem was, at the time no one else had a mobile phone and I didn’t know who to ring!!!
First Phone..3310, Great phone for the game of snake Lol &also with only two contacs ‘Mum &dad’ Haha.
My first phone i bought was over 20 years a go it was over £200 to buy and cost me £35 a month, no free minutes, texts, camera or anything i think it was a motorola .I was young and did not no anyone that had a mobile, i used to put it on the table when i went out so the girls could see it,it was a girl puller then!.But the best thing i remember was that you got 10 seconds free so i used to phone home and tell my mum to put the kettle on. loved that phone!..
My first phone was a huge brick that you could knock off the walls and it would bounce back into your hand! I was a child of 8 years old roughly and everyone had a mobile phone and i felt a tad left out as all my friends were flashing their phones and my older brother who i name ‘golden boy’ had a phone too which made it even more frustrating. When my mother finally agreed to give me a mobile it was the old nokia brick phones. I felt like the kiddy with it too, I never used it for texts or calls I used it to play the classical game of snake on it! I was soo happy just to have a cool brick like phone like everyone else! Never been without a mobile phone since but i do use it for a bit more than just playing games now though!
i had my first mobile wen i was about 15,it was a motorola it was huge and had a massive antana that u had 2pull outa the top of it haha, felt like del boy outa only fools and horses :0)
My mom collected tokens from coca cola and it got me a brick shaped Ericsson a1018 it was huge heavy and like a brick but it was a phone which back then was pretty cool!
My first phone was a motorola 8500.. Was the size of a house brick.. but was very reliable
Th very first mobile i ever had was a BT Cellnet mobile phone. i thought that it was the bees knees lol at the time. but now looking back it was pretty basic & i would love to win it as ive never won anything in my life. as this phone sounds amazing.
cont.
Was only a phone didn’t do games or photos or any such nice things like that.. was a plain old phone
My first mobile was a brick and I only used it when I was on the motorway for emergencies – times have change as I now can’t live without in my pocket
Ok so we are talking old school right now! My first mobile was Nokia 5110! Those were the days where you got hooked to a standard game of snakes haha! Competitions for the best score with my mum were wild lol! You could even buy front cover cases from poundland so I’d have a different colour everyday! Memories aye!! Xx
Mine was a Motorola Pebl. Thought it was so cool. In reality it made calls and sent texts and not much else lol. Since then it’s been Sony Ericsson all the way. Could do with a new phone actually……….
my first phone was a bt cellnet from car phone warehouse very simple & basic just made calls & sent texts how things have come along way now i remember one sales guy when the first camera phone came out with 1.2 m saying they wont get much smaller than this ( half the size of a brick )now oh how wrong was he
I couldn’t even tell you the make of the first mobile I had, suffice to say it cost a fortune and yet looked and felt like a child’s toy!
It’s only feature was to make calls… I’m not even sure it could text?? But I was the envy of a few people as it had a flip mechanism! Smart, eh?!
I soon upgraded though – couldn’t have everyone else having all the fun… “Snake” on the Nokia 5510, here I came!!
Mine was a Phillips PAYG 13 years ago. It cost £79.99 which I thought was a fortune. Bought to keep in my car and for emergencies only !!
it was a like a brick and i really cannot remember the make of it. it was pretty expensive at the time, about 20 years ago. i loved it tho and it looked pretty cool.
I still have my first mobile phone,it is a phillips and is as heavy as a brick, the battery comes out of the phone to charge, and it has a solid arial sticking out of the top,and there wasn’t many people who had a mobile phone so you didn’t have many people to call, what a difference 20 odd years make!!!!!!!
liked and shared! my first phone was a huge brick which I could not fit into a pretty petit handbag..how things have changed..would love to win this phone as I am phone-less..my beauitful little girl by mistake dropped my phone on the floor and now it has completely broken and it’s not insured..naughty mummy..and I am not due and upgrade anytime soon..HELP..all my fault no insurance..maybe I can find that old brick I once had and go back to old technology = no facebook, emails, internet..just simple heaving phone..texting..calling..and big handbag to carry it in ;o) tee hee..ALSO that phone does look ace!! Love your sad phoneless yummy mummy..X X
Paying 35 a month just for connection about 200 for the phone and calls and texts were all extra lol
My 1st mobile was a nokia 3310, i felt like a right yuppie poseing around like i was special, Now i would be to embarred to use it….(still got it as a back up phone)
i cant remember what it was, but i got it in 1999 when we was expecting our first child. it was very basic
my first mobile ever was the size of a huge brick
it was very big, very large and really rather thick
it did the job nicely, lots of calls I made
no texting though at the time, it was rather low grade
big massive handset, very heavy to hold
so please let me win this, it would be like winning Gold!
My older sister was the first one of us to get their own “mobile” phone, but i use the term loosely as I recall it having a HUGE battery case which the phone wast attached to and rested on, It was probably bigger and heavier than most modern handbags!!!
My first phone was a Motorola graphite. In terms of my sisters, it was quite petite but still a brick of a phone!! I remember that the sim card was as big as a credit card and slotted in the back, and the game of the moment was obviously snake!!!
nokia 3210 it was first time I was able to hassle the rents for a lift from anywhere. No more phone boxes!!
MY FIRST PHONE WAS A SONY AND I LOVED IT USE TO TAKE IT EVERYWHERE AND SHOW IT OFF EVEN THOUGH I HARDLY HAD CREDIT I FINALLY THOUGHT I WAS LIKED EVERYONE ELSE I USE TO LOVE THE SNAKE GAME ON IT WAS WICKED I FELT I FINALLY FITTED IN LOL X
My first mobile phone was a Nokia, about the size of a brick.Sooo glad there smaller now
.
I remember my first mobile phone was a Sony Ericsson and it was the size and shape of a brick. It was black and dark blue and had monophonic ringtones, you know – the really pitchy and annoying ones?! But I was still proud as anything and trying out all the ringtones. Why did we do that by the way?? We seemed to be fascinated by ringtones back then.
Anyway I must of been about 14 years old and felt so grown up having my very own mobile phone. I was so chuffed and was really grateful to get it for my birthday. I think nowadays kids are getting phones earlier and earlier and don’t really appreciate them as much as we – the 80′s and 90′s batch – did.
My first mobile was hidden in my house somewhere at Christmas. There was a number on One of the Christmas tree decorations that said ring me. I called the number and the mobile was ringing and I had to find it somewhere in the house. It was a lovely surprise and an original idea at the time.
I felt amazing owning my first mobile. Not only could you talk to ur mates outside ur house you could text them and no one would no what u was saying. loved the new experence.
I think my 1st mobile was a Nokia but I may be wrong. I was 13 years old, it was the size of a brick with a flip down and a huge stumpy ariel! You could make phone calls and that was about it, but I was the bee’s Knee’s as none of my other friends had a mobile. Didn’t get to use it much though as there was no-one to ring that had one too lol
“Nokia 402 Was My First Phone Back In The Day.. I Was The Envy Of All My Friends With A Massive 30 Ringtones & Different Facia Every Week (From The £1 Shop) Plus A Whopping 5 Day Battery Life.. If It Got Dropped It Would Bounce With No Damage.. Plus Had The Best Game Ever Bar Tetris.. Snake!! Who Said Technology Has Moved On”
Mine was a motorola on orange the size of a brick
I was 10 I think and It was a BT Cellnet. I was really excited about it and even took it to school to show it off =) It was a mobile after all, wasn’t it. Looking back now and how technology has developed my first mobile was a brick… I appreciate these modern smartphones they are awesome!
I was given my first mobile phone in senior school in the 90s, what a novelty it was to not have to use pay phones anymore! Ironic too as the fact it was so big and visible seemed cool at the time, now its the other way, the smaller the better! Retweeted as @sarah_ly1
Not sure on my first phone..but it is pretty similar to my current one…an antique!
My first phone was a god send. I could ring all my friends up from school and talk to them every evening and text them. It was great! Now, we all take them for granted and don’t bother calling or keeping in touch as much. Such a shame.
I was in hospital and the public phone didn’t work so my sister bought me a mobile phone so I could phone when I needed a chat.
My first mobile phone was a nokia 3310, thought it was great.
Where’s me keys where’s me phone where’s me keys where’s me phone where’s me keys where’s me phone where’s me keys where’s me phone where’s me keys where’s me phone.
My first mobile was a nokia 3210!! I absolutely loved that phone!! ( I didnt need to use a pay phone anymore) I felt really posh! x
My first phone was a Panasonic phone it was a flip one and it was soo small I thought it looked so nice and still have it
I took such old pictures with it
Loved that phone
trying to get the simm card in …!
My first Mobile Phone was shiny and red, I wanted a black one but he bought me the red one instead!
i was about 10 years old it was a samsung it was 1 of the flip phones lol
my first mobile phone was one my daughter handed down to me in an attempt to bring me up to date with technology well i must say it worked i can now make calls and text (how impressed i am with myself lol) i would love to win this phone though so that i can get even more update and trendy lol. it might take me a few years to work out how to use it though haha,
)
i saved and bought myself my first mobile when i went through my divorce…… gave me a right buzz……even tho it didnt vibrate lol……them were the days.
I was 16 and everyone at school had had a phone for years and I was ridiculously excited when my Dad said I could have a Nokia 3310
Thought it was something I would NEVER need and can now NEVER do without!!!!
Can’t remember what it was – probably a Motorola and the size of half a brick but boy did I feel sophisticated and with it!
I was adamant after returning to the UK from a year travelling in 1999 that I would not ever need a mobile phone…. but after I spotted an electric blue Motorola, I had to have it and have never looked back! I now feel like I have lost my left arm if I go out without my smart phone! ;P
My first mobile was a Nokia 3210, bought it myself and thought it was the best thing in the world! Getting pixelated pictures on it was a dream….
I got my first mobile phone when I was 15. It was my dad’s old one which he’d put in a cupboard out of the way. I sneaked it out and his it under my bed. This phone was then used to text potential love interests – including a boy named James. Went to text him a flirty text one day and sent it to my mother (Jane) needless to say, I was found out for stealing the phone and made to feel guilty for my harlot behaviour. Good times!
I got my 1st phone a week after my wedding in June 1996. It was a Nokia, 1 ov the 1st bricks. It was kept in the car and only used for emergencies. The wk b4 my wedding, the car engine blew up on the motorway. It cost us a £1000 to repair, and we got it back the day ov the wedding. So instead ov goin abroad for our honeymoon, we spent a long wkend in Blackpool. We only ever used that phone once.
It was early December 1999 and I was 16 when I bought my first mobile phone – a Nokia 5110 from Argos. It cost about £90.
It’s still going strong and my mother uses it now!
My first mobile was small and blue with a tiny screen. Was so excited.
my first mobile phone frightened the daylights out of me and was scared to use it , there were so many warnings about frying brain cells and kept it in a drawer , it was a sagem and heavier than a block of lard ! Lard and frying dont go well together :/ My kids grew up and that was it the phones were a necessity and I gave in to there pleas to have one , now I am addicted and just like a computer I have learned to master the basic things like taking piccies and transferring
Never go anywhere without it now either !
A Nokia 101. I was scared to use it because the charges were so high. I would only take incoming calls (I’m not even sure if they had SMS in those days). You had to pull the antennae up and when it rang it lit up like a christmas tree. They’ve come on a litte bit since then.
Can’t remember what it was called but it so looked like a child’s ‘My first phone’ it was Matt grey it was an Alcatel, that’s right. My first phone all and I forgot to put the area code in…..
it was my sons cast off . as he got a new one for his birthday so he let me have his old one. i couldnt afford one of my own.
Mine was one with a huge ariel and it was on 1-2-1 provider it was that long ago, i remember sending my 1st txt message like it was yesterday i sent it to my husband who had exactly the same phone as me and also on 1-2-1 and told him i love him for ever and a day for getting me my first mobile.
o.m.g i remember my first fone was like a house brick a motorola it was hidious big arial that had 2 put out an everythin it was awful haha i used 2 hide it in me pocket an if i was with friends an sum1 rang me i wudnt even answer coz of the shame used 2 pretend it wasnt me haha, obviously ended up getting a better phone as soon as i could lol i hope i win this phone as bin after 1 but it jus so expensive
xxx
It was a brick!!! a Nokia 3310 I think!! no extra’s, just plain old telephone calls!!! BUT IT WORKED FOR YEARS!!
Big brick of a phone! should have kept it they seem to be collectable now.
My first phone was a motorolla that I had to share with my brother. It was huge and my dad’s first. All my friends had the 3310 and I had this giant thing with an ariel!!! My friends still remind me of it!
wow we`re goin back some years! hahah, my first mobile was a samsung blue massive block thing, with a thick areial sticking out the top. it had 3 ringtones , a tiny black and white screen and i thought i was the bees knees, it was way back when t-mobile was called one 2 one still.i was telling my kids about my 1st phone recently and my youngest lookes amazed and then said in a shocked voice `wow, i didnt know telephones were even invented when you were young`! cheeky little……! haha
My first phone was bought for me by my hubby about 20 years ago. It was one of those Motorola black bricks. He had wrapped it up and got someone to call it before I opened it. Was shocked that he had gone and bought such an item by hiself but turned out my sis-in-law had gone with him and sorted contract etc. Used to think it was so cool being in M&S and calling office to see what sandwiches they wanted! I still have the phone which the kids find highly amusing!
Due to the fact that I am so ancient and also worked for a company that produced mobiles I had a massive phone, which was charged via a briefcase, it had a battery time of about 10 minutes and an aerial the size of a broomhandle! It was fairly useless at the best of times, but made worse by the fact that I was seriously young, so this would have been about 1987 or something, and nobody else had one – so I had nobody to ring up!!!! Put me off phones for life, and to this day I still only have a really lame phone.
It was a Nokia about 10 years ago, it was a classic brick phone, the battery was about the size of some phones today lol
I was 23 when I got my first mobile it was a Nokia and it was huge. I was so scared I’d lose it I took it everywhere I went. It was an analogue mobile and the signal was never very good.
The first mobile I ever had was the very first pay as you go phone that came out. It as a Samsung. Phone with a large arial. You pulled up. And was the size of a brick. Lol. But I loved. It and walked around. With it. I thought it was great. How times. Have changed now. At.
Treated myself with my first mobile on my 38.birthday in 2004….it showed me a kind of freedom and gave me a feeling of being alive and modern…..nowadays I own and use and abuse a smartphone….cannot live without it..;-)
I was in my early 20′s living in London. I thought I was very grown up and fashionable using it. It was a massive brick and the battery was half the size of the phone. No texting or internet those days just basic dial it and go but hey no more using minging public phone boxes it was the best feeling ever!!
It was 1979. I was 3 years old. It was a prototype made from 2 yogurt pots and a long piece of string. I called it mymobfone. 13 years later I upgraded to a Nokia. Cant say the reception was much better but at least I didnt get yogurt in my hair when making a call anymore….
My first phone was a Philips Savvy Vogue. I was SO excited to have my own phone & it made me feel like i actually had a bit of freedom
Before that people just had to arrange a time & a place to meet & if they didn’t show up you just had to go home again! Lol. My phone was such a brick it could hardly fit in my pocket & had a big antenna sticking up but back then i thought it was amazing! Because everyone else in the country seemed to have nokias i wanted to be different, but i can remember i had to stick the battery cover on with blu tac haha. Also you couldn’t change the cover like you could with other phones so i decided to paint the whole back of the phone with a million coats of glittery nail polish. Okay so a million coats might be a slight exaggeration haha, but it was a lot! I kept adding more & more to it every time i got bored… it had a really strong smell for weeks but i didn’t care lol, i got lots of compliments on it & it made me feel so cool! Shortly after that they brought out the stickers that flashed when you were getting a message or phone call… i thought they were the best thing since sliced bread!
my husband bought me my first mobile phone (Orange) when I was pregnant with my first child in 2005, and himself one so we could easily keep in contact, as I loved to walk a lot on the South Downs. Needless to say I felt a lot safer having a mobile phone.
I watched the news article when they first came out and said to myself – that is ridiculous that will never catch on, I had my first phone a year after but really just learning how fabulous they are!!!!
My first phone was the same one they used in The Matrix Film – with the sliding cover! Had the ringtone set as Mission Impossible – boy did I think I was the bees knees lol
I had my first Mobile phone about 12 years ago, it was a Nokia and a size of a brick, I thought it was awesome. I had a 12 month contract and it cost me £12 a month, that gave me 100 free text and phone minutes. Believe it or not i never used all my text either. I had that same contract for 5 years.
My very first phone was a Nokia 3410. I’d wanted my own phone for ages but my parents thought I was too young and had no need for one. I remember it was my 12th birthday! I couldn’t put it down and I remember having it taken from me at school that day for playing on snake constantly.
well the first phone i had was a nokia but it was boring so one day i was watching tv a seen a ad on the sony ericsson xperia 10 i was over the moon i did every thing on there planed my hoildays booked my hoildays on there lol and lots more but so sad my xperia is no longer working so am back on a nokia till i can afford a new one the xperia phones are the best lol i love them cant wait to get a new one.
it was in 1996. I can’t remember what make it was. I thought it was amazing! It could store 10 texts and you could do small emoticons! Loved it x
I did not get a mobile until i was older, then got the nokia 5210 with the bouncy rubber cover so you did not break it when you dropped it – what a wonderful invention i thought it was.
And of course you had to drop it just to check the cover worked!
My first mobile must have been 18 years ago. It was massive and weighed a ton but it was great to have something different. Thank goodness technology is so fast with improvements
It was 17 years ago – falls down in a faint to realise that! Because I had to do so much driving on my own I decided to buy one – what a brick, and totally unreliable. So often when I needed it there was no coverage! Thank goodness technology has improved beyond recognition nowadays.
I wasn’t allowed my first mobile until I was 18 and got it for my birthday it was a RinGo , it was horrendous but I thought I was cool x
It was about 1989, a company mobile. Very hard to get a signal. It was about the size of a medium size ladies handbag. Very heavy to carry around. So different to my iPhone 4
The first phone I really wanted was the nokia 8210, very very small and great looking couldn’t wait until my 18th birthday to come.
I was about 9. My mom chose it for me. Was a big brick, a Nokia on pay as you go. Used to love playing snake
Crikey, it must have been back in the mid 1990s and it was a brick of Motorola that basically sent texts and made calls- full stop! I remember it was pretty expensive to use tho’, so we often still popped into a phone box if one was handy. Ooohh- remember phone boxes?! We only really had to so we could be contacted in an emergency when our children were small, so whoever went out took it with them. How different to the smart phones of today that we take everywhere!
My first phone was a hand-me-down from my eldest son. It was a Nokia 1100 as I remember, I used to sit amazed at how he could text at the speed he did. I remember being terrified my phone would ring as I had no clue how to answer it. Truthfully, I could do with having it back again, the battery lasted ages and never failed to switch on, never froze unlike my useless mobile now.
I bought my first mobile phone about 15 years ago and it was the size of a brick, it was a Nokia, It was heavy and very robust but I loved it, I was the envy of all my friends
Karl
cant really remmber my first phone but i know way bk one of them flashed lights all round the sides, loved that phone the lights flASHED TO THE RINGTONE,iv never really liked any orther phone since, may be if i win this one it will change , woohooo , fingers crossed,
NEED A DECENT ONE TO TAKE SOME GOOD PICTURES OF MY LITTLE DOGGIES,
I was 23 when I got my first phone (I`m 40 now) My then boyfriend bought it for me so we could get in touch with each other …he`s my husband now!
It was a huge brick of a phone and lit up in the dark – no idea why!
my first mobile was a nokia, like a brick and all it did was make calls and texts, but at the time i thought it was so cool
http://www.sony.net/Fun/design/history/product/1990/cm-r111.html
This was my first mobile! Flip down microphone, no screen so you didnt know if you had dialled correctly, no texting and no games but the battery life was excellent! Pity about the mobile reception coverage back in those days!
Getting my first phone proved to me that my parents didnt favour my brother as he got the same first phone as me
Wasn’t sure what I was doing and bought a cheap pay as you go phone just to be able to call home when I was away for work. Amazing how advanced they are now
My first mobile phone was a huge Motorola! I was 23! and it came free with a credit card, which also proved e.x.t.r.e.m.e.l.y useful. Mobiles were quite new then – i became very addicted to texting, and it helped me annoy my “then new” boyfriend who’s now my hubby! couldn’t do without a mobly these days, dunno how i managed back then till the age of 23 !
I didn’t get my first mobile phone until I was 16 – it was on my 16th birthday – my mum was so excited to give it to me that she made me open it just after midnight (as soon as it became my birthday) I still have that phone to serve as a reminder of that day =) xx
My very first phone was one of the big chunky phones. I can’t even remember what kind it was because it’s so embarrasing. It was just like a brick. Although seeing some of the mobiles that are coming back in I bet it will be back in fashion soon. LOL
cant remember the make but it was quite big and i took great pleasure in pulling it out and talking on a busy train, really anoying but the temptation was too great.
my first phone was bigger than my head but i thought it was the bee’s knees, especially when it rang in public!i got it as a gift when i turned 13 so a bit of a right of passage!back in those days phones were too big to lose!
So long ago, and Nokias were like bricks! Could u still call th e operator and ask for Busby back then?
Still waiting..but my dad had one that run on car battery..he had in the car..and no phoned him anyway..
my first mobile phone was a nokia it it must have been about 12 years ago, was so heavy and really basic
My first phone was a nokia.. surprisingly my dad still has the phone and uses it
xx
It was a brick lol and despite wanting one for ages… I always forgot to take it out with me lol… but i loved it coz I could sit and play snake for hours lol
My first phone was a trium astral… not the flip down one the lovely big one
. My younger sister had just got the bt brick and was so jealous, looking back its laughable but I loved my phone. I had it for 5 years, then fried it trying to charge it off a car battery…long story, but I like to believe i’ve grown up since then!
I was so proud of my first mobile phone, even though it was huge, heavy and never had a signal!
Back in the stone age , before phones where all the rage, my phone was born, a brick used only for phone calls, arghhh the agony!!!
I can remember my first mobile was a tiny Sony thing with a pull out aerial, spring out arm for the mic, no screen & you could only make & receive calls. That was it. The end. But it’s the smallest phone I’ve ever owned – perfect!
My first mobile phone was a nokia. I was completely bambozld by the new technology and it took me ages to work out how the silly phone worked… i very nearly packed it away and gave up… but im glad i didnt.
thanks for the trip down memory lane. xx
I resisted owning a mobile until 2 years ago, then it took me ages to get use to hearing my ring tone and don’t even talk about predicted text. now I don’t know how I managed without it.
I was a kid in the 80s and I never thought I’d own my own mobile phone. So when I was about 25 I was amazed to get one from my Dad as a Christmas present. He got one for each of my 2 sisters too and we loved them. They were pretty basic by today’s standards but they really helped us organise meeting up and made us a lot closer. It was awesome!
my first mobile was a basic nokia thought it was so high tech .
I was about 21, bit later than all of my friends, but absolutely loved it, was a motorola & huge!
I tortured my Dad for months when I was 12 and he refused to get me one asking me who on earth I would want to call!! And on my 13th Birthday my wish came true when my aunt bought me a Sagem… my -something-X model :L I was absolutely thrilled… until I realised that the network didn’t work at all in my area!!! I only had reception when I was at my school 11 miles away!!! Big disapointment lol
Funily enough my first mobile phone was one I won in a competiton in 1994! I have no idea what the make was but it was so big I had to buy a new handbag to put it in! I didnt have a clue how to work it and at that time only one of my friends had a mobile so needless to say the novelty of having one wore off very quickly. Thank goodness phones have changed somewhat lol!!!
I didn’t get a mobile phone until i was about 14. I remember first using my mums Big Mobile. It was the same size as a brick. It was so cool! I used to take it with me when i stayed at my friends house, And show off. My first phone was HUGE too, It did have a camera on it. But was only around £20.00 . . I Loved my new phone, and didn’t care it was as big as a book..
First mobile phone was a house brick and just as heavy. Bought for me by an ex. Didn’t see the need for one and so expensive to make a call. How things change.
My first mobile phone was a Nokia, we’d just got married and we used the mobile phone all the time instead of having a landline. It was a good, faithful phone and lasted a couple of years and many happy phonecalls x
My first mobile was for my 16th birthday it was brilliant it really made it a great birthday
Well I was 17 when I had my first mobile…okay 17 might sound old but this was 13 years ago and it was a Bosch 509e and orange in colour. It was christmas day that I had the phone everyone else who had a phone had the HUGE nokias!!
I was also the first person in my village to actually own a mobile, it had I think 28 ring tones and all my mates used to play them contineuosly play them over…..ha. I loved my this phone and everyone thought it was the bees knees!!
my first phone way a brick a nokia but i loved it , i loved the changeble covers , times change rapidly x
My first phone was a Motorola brick. It was pre-Nokia so there were no games on it, when it was in my pocket it stuck out and I always tried to keep it hidden. However it got me on the road to upgrading mobiles so it’ll always have a place in my heart.
The thing was really heavy too. I couldn’t wear looser trousers, or I’d be showing the public a LOT more than just my pretty face.
My first phone was a really basic nokia which i had for years. Served me well though until i left it on the car roof and it smashed all over the french autoroute
The first mobile phone i or should i say we because i had to share with my husband was bought in or around 2000 and i cant remember how much it cost but it was very handy especially as we lived in a rural area at that time and gave security for breakdowns, i still have the same number from that phone and i have even been offered money for the number
Me and my boyfriend bought a pair of Motorola “brick” mobiles – the first mobile for either of us. It was so romantic, our numbers were just one digit different! Since his was the only mobile number I could memorise, as it was so close to my own, I had to marry him didn’t I?!
i remember getting my very first mobile phone at 13. unfortunately i cannot remember the exact model it was, but it was an alcatel on vodafone. a flippy one! i remember being so very excited about having a mobile phone, how i could call and text friends and family. it took me forever to figure out the keypad correctly and i used to put ‘+’ as each space. i do remember the phone being really heavy and having a inch long antennae on it. i dont think i ever put it down!
One of the first phillips phones that only showed a couple of lines of text!!
My first phone was a Motorola flip, in about 1994! It had an aerial and everything! My best friend and I got them at the same time and were issued numbers just one digit apart, which was brilliant. I am still using mine to this day (the number that is, not the handset!). We couldn’t SMS in those old days! Liked and shared on Facebook x
I was so thrilled that my phone had the snake game on. It was so addictive. Nearly as addictive as texting! I racked up a huge phone bill when going on holidays. Learnt from my mistakes. Lucky for me at the time my dad was paying for my phone bills- whoops!
My first phone was a Nokia 3310, and unlike the phones we use nowadays the battery lasted ages and I could not imagine that one day the phones will have so many functions and apps etc, I was more than satisfied with it and I may even say I miss it a bit
My sister, who was 17 at the time, bought me a phone so we could text while she was living in Australia. I missed her like made but the emoticons cheered my tweeny self up! I only just upgraded two years ago to O2′s cheapest Nokia. It does the job!
Was very excited at first but greatly disappointed when I could not even get a signal for more than one minute. There was not much chance of losing it either as it was absolutely HUGE !!
I got my first mobile for my twelth birthday..and was ridiculously chuffed…even though it was bigger than my hand and only had snake on it, and most of my friends didn’t actually have one at that point. I actually recall telling anyone who’d listen I had one…People must’ve got extremely fed up of hearing nokia ringtones and seeing how snake worked by the time I walked away! lol
My husband’s first mobile phone was one of those bricks that never held it’s charge for long and was a nightmare to carry around! That was when everyone stared at you in the supermarket for talking on a phone whilst shopping – now it’s so common to talk and shop at the same time!! How far we’ve come!!!
My first mobile i had was when i was 15..nearly 13 years ago now, I was asking for what felt like years for one. It was a motorola on BT network, a big brick that weighed a ton !! It was big and blue, loved it so much, took really good care of it which is a surprize at that age. The only time i used it was to txt my mum !!
My first ever mobile phone was the size of a brick and weighed a ton back in the nineties
It felt so good that i had a form of communication 24/7 not only because i like to talk but from a safety point of view.
And just incase someone needed to get hold of me in case of an emergency, thank goodness for the mobile phone now of course all singing and dancing with internet access when and whereever you are, amazeballs x
Well I thought my first mobile hone was the bee’s knees, but it was soooo difficult to use! Not like they are today. But I loved it and thought it was great that I actually had one, especially before my parents!
My 1st mobile was a big fat siemens mostrosity..I thought I was so cool as back in the 90s not everyone had a mobile…it was one of the 1st pay as you go,was on 121 network (now tmobile) and calls where so expensive that I couldnt even afford to use it!! lmao..it didnt even have sms..a silly bell animation popped up on screen when I got a call..it was so horrible!!!Hopr I win this comp..x
My first phone was like a brick, I think Nokia, Loved it, I thought it was the bees knee’s, lol
I always begged and begged my parents for a mobile phone so I could be like my older sister, as I am 4 years younger I was always told I was to young. To shut me up in the end my dad gave me his old purple work phone, It was even a flip phone (It had a peice of purple plastic covering the buttons) and it was about 7 inches long. It actually didn’t even work but none of my friends realised this and neither did I.
my first mobile was in about 1998 and was a bt cellnet, it was huge and expensive to use
i remember it was a massive phone and i begged and begged for it. my little sister loved it cause the camera faced inwards so have got loads of kwl vids of her ten yrs ago as a baby.
My first mobile was shared with my Mum. It was a Nokia, on Orange network and it weighed a ton. My Mum didn’t know how to use it and so I used to take it out with me so I could always keep in touch with her. I was the first of my friends to have one and they were well gel
Only thing was, Mum said not to make any calls or texts as it was too expensive lol!
When I was 12 my grandpa left me 50 pound in his will and my mum said I could have what ever I wanted so I got a mobile a nokia 6210 it was the beat thing ever I had 10 pound credit gave all my friends with mobiles my number and within 1 hour all my credit has gone best times ever
xx
I was in my 20s, the GSM phones just appeared on the market and for the first time the mobile was accessible to all. It was a company phone, flip-cover Ericsson (BEFORE it became Sony Ericosson). It had an antenna that pulled out! It must have been 1995? 1994?
My first mobile was a Nokia 101 and it took half a day of waiting around in Dixons to get a contract sorted out for it!
My first phone was awesome, my uncle gave it to me when I was around 15, it was a nokia with a bright yellow case and flashy airel. The problem was sometimes it would just flash, as if it was about to ring or recieve a message, then nothing – I used to get so excieted, then nothing
dissapointing, – all say awww… :sobs:
A yellow motorola – resembling a brick. Seems huge compared to phones now!
My first was a brick of a Christmas present from my hubby….he was that excited that he had got it for me, he gave it me a month early! It was a pink clam shell one and lasted about 2 months until I decided I wasn’t a barbie girl and got myself a grown up one! After all I have seen better ones stuck to the front of my daughters comics!
My first phone was a nokia 3210 when i left home at 18. I got it from carphone warehouse and it was on the old BT Cellnet network!! I gave it to my mum when i got a new one and she promptly dropped it in the bath! RIP phone
My first mobile phone was a nokia, I was abou 11. I bought a tigger cover for it & just used it to play on snake because I couldn’t afford credit.
My first phone was about 18 years ago and it was a mitsubishi!! I bought it in a shopping centre and i didnt have anyone to call for ages as no one else i knew had one!
my first mobile was a model called mars i forget the make – it was bought fior my mum and dad but within days i claimed as they could not use it
It was 1999 and I was so excited that I kept texting mates, parents whomever actually had a mobile just to actually play with it. Must have driven them mad! Not to mention went through my credit in hours.
I needed a mega sized handbag to hold my first phone, it was a relic and weighed and looked like a housebrick. Despite its mega statistics it was my pride and joy and I took it everywhere (status you understand)!
I was about 19 years old when I got my first mobile: it was a Bosch. It was so lovely! *_*
I was 15 and it was in 2000. It was a nokia…I can’t remember the model…but I loved it! It was very old and I hardly ever had any credit, but I felt very cool!
I couldn’t wait for someone to phone me on my new mobile. I got in touch with all my mates to give them my number
My First phone was a Nokia pay as you go that had changeable coloured covers, I spent weeks saving my pocket money for a new cover but i did end up with about 10 different colours when i upgraded hehe x
I was 18, in college when I first bought my own mobile phone. It was an Ericsson phone. Worked part-time to save up enough money just for the phone. I was ecstatic! But it didn’t last long. Two weeks later, I dropped my phone in the toilet bowl.
My first phone was a cast off from my Dad, with scratches on the screen but more importantly it had games on it!
It was a siemens c25, it could do everthing, like calls and texts, big rubber buttons and indestructible
My first mobile cost £10 from Avon and it was on orange i felt very lucky because most of my friends didn’t have one.
I was about to have my first son and my husband was going away to work in another country, twas scary but a godsend.
My first mobile was about 12 years ago and I found it out one nite in a niteclub toilet…was a Motorola and was very bulky and big…
My first mobile phone was a blackberry (I know, very recent) and I spent the first day figuring out how to sign out of blackberry messenger! I laugh at myself for being so clueless but I’ve gotten very much used to it now.
My first phone was a brick Nokia phone. They seem rubbish now but back in my day they were very polular! Loved the snakes game especially.
I think I was around 13 when I got my first phone – it was a light blue Nokia 3310 and I was thrilled, thought it was the best xmas present ever and used to play snake for hours. Pretty sure I still have it somewhere
Mine was a Nokia brick ! Unfortunately, none of my mates had a mobile, so I didnt make much calls for a few weeks ! The idea of texting just did not work in my head at all !
My first phone was a pink Motorola. I’d put off getting a mobile for years but finally caved in when my mum insisted she’d feel happier if I had one. Strangely, I chose a pink phone (I don’t like pink!) but wished I’d chosen red. It had a rubbish camera and the ringtone was so low, I could never hear it when it was in my bag. As phones go, it was a tough cookie. I dropped it loads of times and apart from a few scratches, it still worked. I still have it, tucked away in a drawer somewhere.
My first phone was a motorola and I loved it to pieces. I left it in my jeans pocket one day and it accidentally went through the wash. When it came out I cried as the screen slowly faded away with crackling noises… 5 years later I still miss that phone, but it taught me a lesson!
first phone i had was an ericcson weighed a ton never used it just had it clipped to my belt to look good , used to wear down the battery by constantly having the keyboard light up so people could see i had a phone in 96 ,ah to be 20 again lol
long long time ago it was a motorola and the size of a brick as many people have put it
no colour just the old dodgy type computer screen and a arial thing sticking up but you know what !!!!!!!!!!!!!! i still thought i was the Bee’s and Eee’s hahahaha loved it. Dont know how i dare to complain about mobiles nower days compared to what they where like 8-/
Bought one from a car boot sale when I was 9 got home to charge it up and it didnt work
My first phone was on the Mercury one2one network when they launched with unlimited free evening and weekend calls. The phone had a flip cover over the keypad and a pull out antennae and the free calls were such a novelty that I remember having the phone literally glued to my ear.
I had my first phone aged around 10. It was a hand m down from my mum, and then from my sister. It was a massive black Nokia brick with an arial, but I was so proud of it, and I used to love playing Snake on it all the time. I always used to forget it and lose it and it was never topped up. We still have it somewhere, and I think it still works…
My first phone was one of the brick Nokias – I remember when a friend taught me how to text – how revolutionary!!!
Mine was given to me as a gift. We’d been involved in a car accident and it made me a bit wary of being in the car, so the idea of the phone was to give me security/confidence, so that I could pull over and speak to hubby if I needed to.
my first phone was a brick by Motorola, cant remember the model now
My first mobile phone was like an army field-telephone and you had to shout to get the message across to the person on the other end. A piece of string and two old baked bean tins were almost as effective. I only had a couple of friends who had one as well, so I didn’t make or receive many calls … which was just as well because it was expensive! It might have been cumbersome but it was cutting edge and I thought I was über cool because I was lucky enough to have one.
my first phone was a birthday gift from my husband
My first phone was a Nokia given to me by my daughter on my 50th birthday. Took a while getting to grips with texts (predictive texts were a nightmare) and not ending a call mid conversation, but I loved it.
I was 16 & firstly had a pager but then got a brand new Vodafone PAYG blue mobile – nobody else at college had one at the time, it was great
i WAS About 15,I brought a nokia 3300 i thi model number and,was so happy with it,One day i took it to the bathroom with me,Put it on top of the toilet….aND NEXT MIN ACCidently knocked it off and fell into toilet bowl.It was to late it was water damaged.
My first phone was a Panasonic brick from Makro. First call made to it was from me to my mum who was standing up the top of the garden lol. I couldn’t believe I could hear her on it. I was about 14. Thank God they made them much smaller and more sophisticated as I certainly couldn’t be using it now, I don’t even think it would work.
I was about 12 and the first in my school to have a mobile phone, I felt so out of place and embarrassed lol it was always hidden in my bag x
I remember muu 1st ,obil which was a very very old acatel .. never knew how to tect but my mate who had a stammer thought it was te best thing slibce sliced bread ,, he has never looked back since !!
On the very first day I got my phone, I dropped it in the toilet! Had to get another one, I’d only had it a few hours.
As a Christmas present from my mum in 2000….a novelty at the time
My first mobile was a flip phone on the one2one network (Now T-mobile), it was a fantastic experience being able to talk for free and being able to communicate anywhere in london whilst the network was being extended across the country.
I was about 15 when I first got a mobile phone – it had a giant aerial! It was a Philips one and I don’t even think they make mobile phones! But it was one of the newest ones out and an old neighbour got it for me out of her catalogue as a thank you for helping her to decorate her living room. I was so made up!
LOL,I WANTED TO THROW MY FIRST MOBILE PHONE OUT OF THE WINDOW AS I COULDNT GET THE LOCK OFF OF IT,MY TWO TEENAGE KIDS THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY
My first phone was a motorola housebrick, it cost £100 and for that you got £5 credit per month which was used up in about 3 minutes, I was too scared of high mobile bills to ever use it but carried it around in case of emergency, as we never had emergencies it was never ever used *rolls eyes* thank god for newer phones with PAYG and texts lol
It was my first job and I brought a phone the size of a brick! Loved it though.
Shortly after my graduation I have bought my first phone – Siemens M45. My parents and brother has no mobile phones when, so it was mostly for job purposes. It was the reliable device and having a mobile phone it was unusual to my city, so I was happy
My first mobile phone was a Sagem. lol. Couldn’t do much but i loved it. : )
I think I was 16 or 17 when I got my first phone, it was one of the first Nokia phone and it resembled a brick. I had fallen out with my Mum and was staying with my cousin, but my Auntie was 60 a week after my birthday and she was having a party, when I got there my Mum gave me a present, I opened it to find my phone. I was so pleased, back then it was pretty special to have one, and not only did I get a phone it broke the ice with my Mum to
My first mobile phone was Nokia from MATRIX movie – I loved it. I felt like Neo:)
I got my first mobile about 15 years ago, they looked totally different to modern mobiles – the handsets were chunkier (more like a wireless landline phone) and they only made calls (possibly texts, I cannot remember and I never text anyway). They were also much heavier and very expensive for making calls – back then line rental was just that and did not include any calls at all, I well remember running up a bill of over £90 one month, eek ;o)
It was a Nokia… It was very heavy… I had to buy a new bag it was so heavy !!!!
my first phone was the “matrix” style phone, god I love it, all I needed was the long black leather coat!!!
My first ever phone was the size of a brick, and it felt like it too. Actually it was a Sony phone! To this day it’s sitting in the draw and it has no sell on value!
Still if I ever need to build a wall there is a ready made brick right there!
It was a banana Nokia I loved it!!!
I had an old Philips brick which I loved and kept for years until it gave up for the ghost. I am sad to say that i can also remember the very first mobiles with the battery the size of a car battery.
Mine was like a brick, I was the last of my friends to get a mobile, and on Christmas morning I excitedly texted everyone saying ” Got a mobile! this is my number xx” The only thing I forgot to include was my name! DOH! So u can imagine how many textes i got back. “Who’s this?” I was an embarrassing firs mobile experience for me!
My first mobile was a Nokia the size of a brick. Thank goodness mobiles are a bit less bulky now.
To be honest, my first phone didn’t do any more than my current one- make calls & text! But it certainly didn’t fit in my pocket!
Me and my sister both saved up to buy our first phones as teenage’s mine was a Motorola what a brick can’t believe some1 stole it! But we are talking about nearly 15 yrs ago now, no wonder!
My first phone was also my eldest daughters first… passed on to me when she upgraded.. a Nokia 3310….I still have it!
My first mobile was one of those huge ones with the battery the size of 2 bricks attached to it. Thought i was the bees knees carrying that around. Cringe now thinking about it!
I only had a pagers when there was a give away of mobile phone by cocacola, so I drank so much diet cokes and collected so many pull tags and got my first ericsson mobile (it was before Sony Ericsson)!! It had the original coca sola ringtones and everything. I loved it!!, even though it was quite bulky.
My first phone was a silver nokia. It took about a minute to turn on and was very basic but… it had tetris – I was addicted! My boyfriend borrowed my phone once and missed his bus home because he “had a good score”
Bought my first mobile phone in 1992, loved it even though it hardly ever worked.
My first phone was defo a brick but more ‘high tech’ than others at the time.
My mum ordered it from QVC and I never seemed to have any money in it. Oh how now the times have changed!
My first mobile was a nokia, dont know which model but I remember it cost me £125, and it was useless, none of my friends had one so nobody called me on it because it cost too much from a landline, it had terrible reception, there was only about 1 square metre of the house that it worked in and it took up my whole handbag it was so big!
my first mobile was the nokia 8110 “banana phone” felt cool like neo in matrix but sadly i couldnt run up walls or fly.
It was a long time ago and it was the size of a brick
my first ‘mobile’ phone was the size and weight of a brick
I’m so old that I remember I had to pull the ariel out and flip down the lid to speak into it.
My first mobile was a BT Cellnet phone kinda like this one http://blog.artesea.co.uk/images/philips_c12.png I wanted it because the text tone sounded like a superhero’s arrival lol. I thought I was great even though I was like 2 years behind everyone else when mobile phones were becoming a must have for everyone.
My first phone was a Nokia 3330 I got when I was 15. It’s Like the 3310, but with WAP internet! I thought it was the bees knees. Unfortunately it was faulty, and I ended up sending people hundreds of the same texts! Then I went camping, and I received texts in Chinese… I soon had it replaced though, and loved it even more. Snake 2, that space shooter game, changeable covers and a nice sturdy feel in the hand…
Looking back it’s amazing how much the technology has come on in 11 years!
My first phone was a nokia cannot remember what number it was lol had so many but i know i could play snake i was the snek champion and the battery would last for a week and didn’t matter how many times i dropped it it still worked unlike the ones i have today thank god for insurnace.

My first mobile phone was a Nokia 5110! When I was 14 for my birthday! Lol I was so excited, huge it was compared to phones now! But snake on it was amazing! I loved the fact I could text my friends ect, & I remember the day after my birthday I took it to school with me & got it confiscated until the end of the day! GUTTED I was haha, I like the fact that those phones u could drop them & they were so big and chunky that they never seemed to brake! X great comp x
My first phone was a Nokia. I was so excited, like a child with a new toy. I loved playing snake on it
the first time ever I held a mob
my throat was tight I wanted to sob
this thing so magical in my hand
I knew that I could rule England
It was the size of a medium sized brick
it weighed a ton but looked so slick
but wouldnt swop for a million pounds
not as silly as it sounds
my first mobile was a lovely chunky blue Siemens thing, I loved it and soon wracked up quite a bill
My first mobile phone was a Nokia 7610 and I loved it!
it was a panasonic one but omg what a brick, and the screen was tiny
Late nineties, a Nokia something or other – I so didn’t want to get a mobile – thought it would be so invasive – now I can’t seem to function without it!
My first phone was a nokia 3310, I bought it soon after I started my first full-time job, I felt so grown up!
it was the size and weight of a house brick.
i was about 12 and my first mobile was an alcatel, it was a brick and took me about 6 months to figure out how to text!!!
My first experience of a mobile phone was a hand me down from my little sister who has a new phone every year since pretty much birth (im not a bitter – maybe a little lol). A nokia, brick now, heavy but it worked.
My 1st mobile was a Motorola that took 4 AA batteries, no display and had a metal ariel that you had to pull up to get a signal. I paid £299 on Vodafone PAYT.
my mobile was great i hardly used it and after a month the number became obsolete boy how things have changed i’m never off the thing
my first mobile was the size of a brick
I got my first mobile phone in 1997 a Ericsson PH ? it wasn’t a lot of use as not a lot of my friends had phones then.
I had it as my Mum bought it for me so she could check up on me and so that I could stay in touch with her.
It was bullet proof, it just used to bounce if it was dropped, and I still have it somewhere hiding in the loft.
I was 16 when I had my very first mobile phone,
I was shocked it was amazing and big, but I was not alone.
My dad said it was state of the art and one of a kind,
I could have my own personal space and he didn’t mind.
My big black bulky phone was amazing and made me feel great,
Looking back now wow what a state.
It did make me smile and was so clever I must say,
Thank you dad, It was amazing, a gift I can never repay.
Nokia 3310 was my first and i loved it lol but comared to todays phones its rubbish lol
thought I was the B’s and e’s with my new brick of a phone lol took up most of my bag space but loved being able to communicate with loved ones when I was out and about x
My first mobile was sagem, it was huge and it was the best present I had got up unto that point. It helped me keep in touch with my friends instead of having to run about the streets for hours looking them.
Matching motorola bricks ! one for me and one for my partner. Still got mine somewhere .. its got an aerial that you could hang your coat on.
My husband brought me it and it was like a brick!
my first phone was a brick ,my boyfriend brought it me,i cant rember the name of it tho,but i know it was big heavy thing, and i couldnt fit it in my handbag
I’m hoping this prize will be my 1st mobile phone !
My kids are dragging me ( kicking & screaming ) out of the dark ages.
I was 14 years old and it was a motorola, I had it for ages until it died
Ah I was about 13 at the time (I am 28 now) so it was a fair while ago. I believe it was one of the original Nokias, big, black and brick like with the smallest screen ever and the biggest rubber buttons not forgetting the huge aerial to boot. I think that pay as you go was the only option at the time and I would waste credit texting friends across the classroom. Suffice to say I have moved on slightly since.
Becky
didn’t get one till a few years ago so didn’t have a old one but was certainly a lot bigger than the ones you get now they are not only phones but mini laptops
I can just remember my first mobile,as big as a brick, graphics like an etch-a-sketch, but the antenna made an excellent device for ear and nose cleaning( dont tell the wife!!)
My first mobile was a bright orange colour I bought it for when me and the kids went camping during the summer holidays ‘just in case’. Must admit it very rarely got used thank goodness.
I purchased my first mobile phone in 1995 for £200 plus a long expensive contract. It was a large Nokia with a large extendable aerial. I was really excited as was the only person I knew that had a mobile phone and put it on charge only for a few hours not knowing it needed a full charge. It always run out of battery really quick. Everyone put it down and said why have you got that mobile phone its stupid! Now everyone has one!
I got my first mobile at the age of 16 and OMG it was love at first sight. When I received it off my parents I couldn’t grab it off them quick enough.I opened the box and took it straight out dad said charge for 24 hrs and I thought not a chance haha so I turned it on and where do I start I didn’t know how to text or where every thing else was.So off I went in my room trying to text and the predicted text come on oh my didn’t know how to take it off and all the words was wrong I was so excited too but I could figure out to do things. Then I realised I had no credit and I couldn’t ask my parents they just bought my phone. So I tried for hrs to learn to text and I was really fast at it but then I realised had no friends to text but I do remember how grateful I was that my parents bought me my first mobile a Nokia can’t remember the make I’m talking 14 years ago but I loved it.How technology changes so quickly what a mobile a Xperia s just Amazing oh I do have friends to text now wooooo
x
I got my first mobile at 17 in 1998! None of my friends had one so the only places I could ring (no text!) Was my mums house! It was a motorola were you had to pull out the antenna to get a decent reception! It was as basic as they come and 10 credit went nowhere but I loved it anyway. Oh the days when mobile phones were actually used to make calls…
I bought my first mobile when I was 12, it was a Nokia 3210. I bought it off a friend and had to save up for months and months to get it. Loved that phone!
I was about 13 and some of my friends had started getting mobiles so i asked my dad for one for Christmas and I really wanted a Nokia 3210 but it seems he didn’t trust me that much with a mobile so he got me a secondhand Siemens one but he had left all the address book details and messages on it and the worst thing was it had an antenna which the previous owner had chewed and my friends thought I had done it!
It was an old Nokia, and huge compared to todays compact phones. It also had the big antenna they all had in those days. Even so, I loved it at the time and thought I was really ‘grown up’ having a mobile phone, few of my friends had one at the time.
My first phone was an Orange pay as you go brick with a WHOPPING 15 ringtones! Trés Chic. Unfortunately I had to share it with my Dad, lol
My first phone was my dad’s old hand-me-down! I didn’t mind though, I was just happy to have one, even if it was much older than all my friends! This was over 10 years ago when the big chunky Nokias were all the rage, I thought it was so cool. Miss playing snake on it!
My first mobile phone was a Nokia hand me down from my relative which had a worn out battery. It was basic cheap and cheerful!
I was so pleased when I got my first mobile phone, even though it was huge. I found that as I suffered from anxiety when going out, problem was solved. I could phone anyone anytime.
I am nearly 31 I remember getting an Nokia Pay as you Go for £150 when I was about 17 it was the first pay as you go phone and I thought it was amazing. It didnt do sms and it didnt take pictures (god I sound old now). It was expensive to make calls and resembled a brick! But I will always remember the excitement of owning my own mobile phone! Just think how todays children take advantage of owning one!
It was a Nokia brick about 14 years ago and I had no idea how to text!
I was 15 and had wanted a mobile for ages so was over the moon when my parents took me to get one. It was a Nokia 3210 pay as you go and I spent £20 credit within an hour haha!
Oh man, my first phone? A nokia no doubt. had nobody to call on it and nobody called me, had this awesome space shooter game on it though. Played on it more than i did my video games!
My first experience of getting a mobile was a big black ugly Nokia brick, but at the time I thought it was the sleekest most trendy thing ever. It didnt even fit in my clutch bag for a Saturday night out LOL
My boyfriend bought me my first brick! I wasn’t old enough and we scrimped and saved for it. He ran off with my best friend about a month later and I refused to give up my phone!
I remember getting the Nokia 3310, what a classic, i would spend ages playing snake on it!
My first mobile phone was a hand me down one from my Dad, I can’t remember the brand but it was that long ago that it’s one of those “brick” phone. Yes you could kill someone if you threw that phone at them
i resisted getting a mobile phone for years as i did not really see th point; now i could not do without one!! I remember also it taking me another year to get my head around predictive text, but i eventually saw th light
I always swore I’d never get a mobile phone – carry a phone around – how ridiculous! But of course… I got one. Age of 21, and I’ve never been without one since.
I dropped my first phone in the loo.
I got my first mobile when I was 20 …and it was a brick! It was a Motorola and weighed a ton – especially by comparason to todays phones but I thought I was the bees knees walking round with this. Looking back, I probably looked a right pleb but ho hum, I thought I was cool. I remember having loads of fun ringing my friends whilst on the go – even when they were with me and the idea of sending text messages meant I never had to talk on the phone again …if I didn’t want to! lol
The phone I use today still only has basic calling/texting functions so i’d love a more technical one, then I could give my kids a run for their money!
I still have RSI from using my first mobile! I thought it was great and I still have it in a drawer somewhere!
Was like the best invention ever
I got my first mobile phone ( my husbands hand me down) about 17 years ago. It was a nokia something or other and had functions so basic my grandsons toy mobile now does nearly more that it did!
My fist mobile was a big clucky one(one to one). I was amazed by it. A phone you could carry and looked it for hours not sure what to make of it and use it
Oh dear this takes me back, they were so expensive back in the 80s mine was a brick called the Motorola dynaTac 8000x It was between 83-84 I got this & I thought it was amazing, nowadays you would see this in a museum hehe (showing my age here) x
My first phone was a hand me down from my hubby, it was like holding a brick compared to the phones today. I think I probably sounded like Dom Jolly, always shouting on it.
I had a Nokia 3210 and would only use it to call my parents as noone else had phone back then, but I loved Snake on it.
Mine was about the size of a house brick and it took me two years to leanr how to change between upper and lower case text. There were no smart phones, cameras or multimadia messages in those days, you just made a 9very expensive) call or slowly picked out the letters for a text….. if you knew anyone else with a mobile to send one to!
my first phone was legendary, as it was my Dad’s old phone it was a bouncy cased workman’s phone with a compass! I got a huge high score on ‘snake’ and spent hours texting! It was quality, don’t break quick like today’s phones!
My first mobile phone was from the Automobile Association (AA) in the nineties. The battery came in a big satchel, and you could only phone the AA and the emergency services!
i was about 14/15- was very different to the phones you get now!
I was 11 and i was the last in my class to get one. It was an old Nokia. It had snake, that was all that mattered at the time
Coming from a generation that had to “push button B”, it was kind of spooky, and a little unsettling, to be able to phone my brother in Indonesia from the middle of a field in Wales…
my first mobile was a bit of a brick and the one i have now is pretty old so this would be fab if i won
Cor, I was 19 at university, it was a big silver brick of a phone with a pull out ariel- I can still remember the click click click of texting…
My very first mobile was a Nokia 1610 back in 1998. I remember telling the guy i’m privately renting a room and he put down the banks address (as my address) as i couldn’t produce a utility bill! I was brand new in London and was as excited about the phone as i was about London.
I came late to mobiles .I really didnt want one. But when I went abroad to work my mother insisted.I think she thought they didnt have them in Greece!
My first mobile was a clunky Nokia which I received as a gift. I loved it though, being able to text people and chat while I walked home! It’s amazing how much phones have changed!
It was 12 years ago (when I was 17) and it was a motorola and the size of our landline phone with its big aerial and huge buttons….but you could do something called text messages on it which was all amazing and new…wow!
My first mobile phone was when I was about 33. Yes, 33! Heavy, bright blue with a tiny screen. My children now play with it as a toy phone.
i was excited cuz all my friends already had one- and i didn’t yet- so i felt like i was finally up to speed technologically!
I won a phone many years ago, it was an original Nokia “Brick” the prize included free calls for a year. It was’nt such a fantastic prize as it may seem, no one else not colleagues or friends had mobiles, so it ended up being just an extra way to get hold of me. I couldn’t get hold of anyone else any easier than before!
I was 15… It was when the very first pay as you go phones came out. I got it from Sainsbury’s, so did my then boyfriend and we had matching phones!
My first mobile was a Nokia, inherited from my Dad. It was back in the day when then were brick like with toy like antennas. I remember it being so heavy it pulled my trousers down if I didn’t have a hand in one of my pockets. Definitely not the coolest accessory I’ve owned.
It was a Motorola & cost 1p on a contract, we thought it was so snazzy, but now realise it was a brick! Lol Couldn’t afford to use it cos calls were too expensive!
It was in the year 2000, it was a 30th birthday present and it was big and bulky, I cant even remember what make it was but it was huge!!
It was a Sony and I had to go back to the shop so that they could show me how to get it to work. Never had to do that with anything before or since.
My first mobile was one of the very first, it was a block the size of 3 bricks stuck together, with a hand set which was connected by a proper swirly cable, and an extendable aerial. This thing must have weighed a couple of kg, and my mum insisted I take it to school on my bike, that was a hard couple of years, but it did have a special button to call the police.
My first mobile was my brother’s old phone, I had to promise my Dad that I really did need a mobile but that I wouldnt use it too much. In order to prove this I would phone my dad when I got off the school bus to ask him to pick me up – we used to have a competition to see how short the phone call could be – I can’t remember now exactly but I know that we had a sub 5 second record!
My first mobile phone was a Philips Savvy about 12 years ago that was like carrying around a brick. At the time I thought it was fantastic until I bought a Nokia about 2 years later that was about half the size. I gave the Philips to my now ex-husband who used it for years (much to the amusement of everyone who knows him).
It took me 20 minutes to compose my first ever text message – and then I accidentally hit delete. Aaarrrggghhh! My kids thought it was hilarious!
I was 18 months old when I got my first top of the range mobile phone. All of my friends at the Nursery were dead jealous.
It was made by Vtech and it had a thing called Bluetooth.
Wasn’t sure what that was then because cos at that moment in time I only had two or three teeth of my own and they were all pearly white.
I was about 18 months old when I got my first mobile phone.
It was a Vtech Rough Play.
All of my friends at the nursery were dead jealous.
It had a thing called Bluetooth but wasn’t too sure in those days what that meant cos I only had two or three teeth of my own and there were all pearly white.
It was fantastic, I could suddenly speak to anyone at anytime.
I BROUGHT MY FIRST MOBILE PHONE TO KEEP IN MY CAR, FOR EMERGENCY CALLS, AFRTER SOME PERSON RAN INTO THE BACK OF ME. BUT LUCKY FOR ME THERE WAS A PHONE BOX NERAR HELHAMESTEAD, ON THE WAY BACK FROM Enfield, from a garedning course. now the phone I have has packed up, but have to buy a new one, so to keep in the car and for personel use, also to help other people, if needed.
I got my first phone for my 13 birthday, and it was a Nokia face off with a union jacket cover. All I can remember doing on that phone was playing the game snake it took up most of my life out side school. Such a frustrating game! That was around 13 years ago now haha!
Mine was a Nokia Ringo – it cost a fortune at the time and was really pretty terrible. BUt I thought it was great – I was one of the first in my circle with one. I still remember the phone number, numerous phones later!
God knows how old I was, but I got a nice brick of an LG phone. It practically was the size of my head and the worse thing about it all is that I am not even that old so I can’t be excused as small phones did exist.
Though it was a damn sturdy thing; just like a brick I suppose.
I got my first mobile phone when I was about 45! It was great. You could create your own tunes on it. However, you had to pay £15.00 to get £5.00 calling credit, so I only used it for emergencies!!! I think it was a Nokis, (can’t remember that far back) and it was big and bulky, but at the time it was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was large and black and very clumsy,
It was given by my wife, who is very mumsy.
To keep you safe she said with wit,
But I did’t know what to do with it.
lol
my first phone was a brick it was massive loved it thought i was the bees knees coz i had it had a big handbag to put it in tho lol
my very first phone was a sony ericson, i loved it , i still have it but its not doing the job it should do lol, its getting to old know , hahahahaha, would really like this new one , xxxxx
i was 10 years old – going into my new school after moving house. It was a big blocky black brick but obviously i was so excited at the time it didn’t matter!
I was (and still am) a deaf old bat and it used to REALLY annoy my husband when he tried to call me and I couldn’t hear it ring – the looks I got from the people nearby were the only clue to me that my phone was ringing. Am more ‘wised up’ now but have the perfect excuse if I don’t want to speak/answer the phone
The first device I every bought was in 1994, I can’t now remember the name of it but I do recall it was the size – and weight – of a brick. It was on a Vodafone contract and I used it for business mainly.
The battery life was practically zero, the device seemed to take an age to charge then once it was charged halfway through a conversation it would go dead. I was rather embarrassed carrying around this heavy piece of plastic in my handbag, but the phone was so big you couldn’t easily hide it unlike the phone we use today.
The other point was the signal was terrible and while at work I couldn’t actually use it at desk. I had to walk into the car par and try to hear what the person on the other end was saying to me whitest dodging my colleagues driving in and out of the car park.
I got my first mobile 15 or so years ago, was a massive phone that had a one line display which made it awkward for sending and receiving text messages.
My first mobile came in a leather case but i wasnt used to mobiles and everytime it rang i would take it out of its case to answer it.
My first phone was a Nokia, it was sort of a peacock colour and had an ariel! I used to love playing Snake on it!!
i was about 8/9 and i got a pink motorolla flip phone, i loved it!
My first mobile came free with a face cream purchase from Avon. It seemed such a great deal i bought alot of face cream so that my boyfriend could have a phone too! They were nokia basic PAYG but made out of a rubbery material that meant they lasted years!
nice phone i like this
11 YRS OLD THE PHONE WAS CALLED A TECHNOPHONE BASED ON THE NOKIA 101 VEY BIG VERY HEAVY BUT VERY COOL!!!!!!!!
My 1st mobile was a brick and did nothing apart from make calls and texts. How times have changed as mobiles now do everything!
my first mobile was when I was quite old, maybe in my 30s – it was a basic samsung model, and I hardly ever used it!
I had a hugh brick, the type that del boy had on only fools and horses, it must have been one of the first ones, the battery was the size of a log. How the hell we managed with them in our handbags I don’t know. when I think now how small they r i realise how technology has advanced. Don’t know what make it was but think i was on BT.
I got my first mobile phone when I got my first car. So that if I broke down whilst on the road at night I could call someone for help. It made me feel much safer.
It was the size of briefcase but weighed more, the battery only lasted about half an hour, so you could only use it in the car, no texts, no camera, but i loved it!
I bought my first mobile phone when my daughter was 7 (9 years ago) My partner & I ‘lost’ her on the beach at Scarborough. He went one way to look for her & I stayed where we were in case she came back. When she did turn up, having wandered across the beach rather than straight down, I had no way of getting in touch with him until he returned. We both bought a phone and now this is no longer a problem -also she’s 16 now !
My first mobile phone was a Nokia 3310. My grandad bought it for me when we were in Virgin Megastores (so long ago!) and I got all different covers for it
i got my first mobile phone when i was 16, in 1999, a result of passing my GCSE’s. it was a gold vodafone with an aerial haha
thanks for a fab comp x
I didn’t get my first mobile until I was 35 and only used £10 credit in the first 2 years.
My first phone was the Nokia 3310 and I just remember the fact that it was indestructible and I loved playing snake
i dont even remember my first phone. it had been too long
My first phone was an Ericsson EH237. I thought it was marvelous at the time. 80 Quid for a battery and bills with no minutes included coming in at £150 per month. Pre-GSM as well so no text messages.
Looking back it was really like being in the dark ages!
My first phone was one of those orange translucent Bosch phones. Lasted me for years and was indestructible!
my first mobile phone was a rather bulky nokia. a rather simple basic thing it was and to be honest i’ve just stuck to the same principles. nothing fancy- just something to call and text. but i rather fancy a change and i’d really love to win one of these sonys. it looks rather flash but very nice. and i’m sure i could manage to operate it eventually. bout time i had a flashy phone. hope i’m lucky
Aww I remember my first properly my phone not “shared” with my brother it was a lovely sony Ericsson K700i still remember opening the box and being like yes!!! This is mine
My first mobile phone was a Motorola Flare in 1996. It cost a whopping 150 pounds on contract. Paying that amount of money itself was quite a shocker to me then. Anyway, I loved the phone as it enabled me to communicate with my sick mother in London several times a day as I was studying in Cardiff. The phone came in handy in an unexpected way one day. In a remote train station in Glamorgan, I was attacked by a couple of naughty youths trying to rob me. I used the phone to defend myself as it was as big as a brick. I whacked one or two youths with it and they ran away with much fright. Amazing how that little phone saved me from being robbed.
It was a Tesco Freeseve branded mobile phone which cost £50 in 2001 and cost about £1 to connect upto the ineternet-which i never did! I had it for 5 years before upgrading it to a nokia.
I got my first mobile aged 40 and we bought it as my daughter fell off the back of a lorry- yes, really. She was playing on the tail gate of the removal lorry as we were moving from Guernsey to UK, and she fell off and broke her arm. As my hubby was going back to the UK via car with son and rabbit, we needed mobiles to communicate whilst I stayed with daughter in hospital and then to fly out next day. That was 2000
I had my first mobile phone about sixteen years ago. It was the size of a house brick and had the technical capability of two paper cups and a length of string. But I loved it!
Mine was a second hand Nokia phone which like most was a heavy brick
but i did enjoy playing the game Sanke on it
i got my first phone about twenty years ago one with a big anttenna that you could just about fit in your bag. Thinking about it now tho, it would properly be worth a few bob now should of kept it for an investment for my children cause i still have the box for it.
It cost £10 and had a little ariel sticking out the top! You couldn’t do much with it other than texting.
My first phone was a huge bulky phone a motorola and I was very proud of it at the time. My current phone is about five years old and seriously needs replacing.
My first mobile was my mum’s old one and that made it really old! It had a nariel and everyhitng but still, all my friends were jealous
I had to beg my mum for about 2 years to let me have one! Then she finally gave in after she broke down in the middle of nowhere but because she had a mobile she could phone for help- she realised they are essential! It was a Nokia 5110.. and I remember buying loads of brightly coloured fascias for it and playing snake for hours and hours!
1st phone looking back now was a huge heavy horrible thing but at the time thought it was the best thing, that was until I got my first phone call on it from my lovely boyfriend to tell me he missed me, then that became the best thing on then best phone!
i was about 8 years old and my brother who is 6 years older than me got a new phone so gave me his old one. although i wasnt aloud anybodys number i used to play the games on it.
What a great comp! My first mobile was the size of a house! No camera phone, just calls and texts it was so basic but I loved it!
good luck everyone!
I got my 1st mobile phone when I was 17 (1997!). My Mum got it on contract for me, with strict instructions not to spend hours talking to my mates, it was only to be used for emergencies and brief conversations…. Ohhhh the atmosphere in the house was frosty when the 1st bill came through it was over £130!! My part-time job wages were severely lacking for months whilst I paid it off lol x
My first mobile was blue and signal was so poor I could only make a call by leaning out of the kitchen window, over the sink! Things have improved since then.
I still remember the model number… it was a Motorola 8700 and it was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen at the time, a little jewel…
My first phone was one of those ones with the face on that played music when you turned the dial! The eyes use to move when pulled across the floor too which was really cute – he made a reappearance recently on Toy story 3!!
My first mobile phone was the size of a brick and wouldnt fit in my pocket – had to be carried round in a bag – how times have changed!!
it was great to be able to keep in contact!!!
I got my first mobile when i returned to the UK following a year in the states, when i left no-one had a mobile, in fact i had a pager so friends could contact me, when i returned it was a shock as everyone was walking around with a mobile as they had become affordable.
My first mobile phone was like a brick, really heavy and cumbersome to carry around!
Mine was the Motorola Ringo which I got on Vodafone Pay as You Go. I admit I chose the handset because of the name (I love The Beatles). I saved for months to get it and I was so proud as an 11 year old.
I had my first mobile phone in 1999, and it was a nokia very basic phone, my boyfriend (now Husband) Bought me
xx
After resisting for years, I finally succumbed and took over my son’s old Nokia when he upgraded to a Smartphone. Still tend only to use it for when I break down on the motorway, though, or when the wife REALLY needs to talk to me!
I resisted a long time but in the end I ended up getting a huge motorola which weighed me down considerably! Forget running for the bus! But it was a godsend in communicating with family
I got my first mobile phone in 1998, when I was in my first year of secondary school. It was a huge Motorola phone, which was very fashionable because it came with two (!) different skins. Woo hoo!
It was a birthday present about 20 years ago. I didn’t tell anyone at work but got my husband to phone me during the day. Everyone was surprised when it started ringing and I answered it singing “Happy Birthday to me”!
I had my first mobile in the mid nineties & it was a Phillips. It was bigger than our home phone! I thought it was the ugliest thing ever, but I took it everywhere with me out of necessity. I’m sure my daughter doesn’t believe me when I tell her what mobiles used to be like!
It was a nokia. I don’t remember the number, but it was bigger than a brick
I spent the entire day prank calling my home number and hanging up before my Dad could answer the phone. Needless to say, he didn’t know I had a mobile and didn’t really understand the concept of one. Oh, what fun times we had!
I finally got my first mobile phone at University, it was soon after pay as you go phones started to become a little cheaper. I had just got a new part time job as well and was settled into my University course studying Business, I thought without a mobile phone I wouldn’t be credible in the world of work and business. It was a big phone and didn’t do much besides texts and calls….who would have thought smart phones like the Experia P a decade or so later would be so advanced and able to do so much!
I didn’t get my first mobile until I was 22 which was a fair few years ago now as I’m now 39. It was an old old Nokia and it was quite a large phone but because that was all was about back then it was the best phone ever as far as I was concerned. I loved it! oh gone are the days of not being able to fit your mobile in your pocket….thinks wistfully
Mine was a dummy mobile the pretend one’s haha looked the part and every one thought it was real and I didn’t tell them it wasn’t.It was very cheap and I didn’t have to top it up
but eventually I bought a Nokia 3210 on orange it’s was a really great mobile.I will always remember it.As long as i could phone out and play snake I was a happy lad
My first mobile phone was free with Avon – they had run out so gave me a slightly better one in the Orange shop – the upgrade meant it had polyphonic ring tones but all I wanted was a standard “ring ring”. I only really received calls from my husband for the first year but I did learn how to text. I still have the same number (only my second phone) and I still do not know what it is.
i don’t have a smart phone but i want to get that kind phone it’s my dream one day day i got my dream
My first phone was actually a Sony Ericsson T10s. I used to lay in bed under the cover for hours just typing random things and going through the menu simply because I was so amazed by what it could do. I was obviously always sleepy in school the next day but my parents never found out why and I sticked to Sony for my mobile phones every since!
My first mobile phone was a Nokia and the one I have now is a Nokia (nothing changed there then) bit of a stick in the mud would love a change fingers crossed!
I got my first phone for Christmas when I was about 16 back in the days when they were still old bricks. I remember not being very chuffed with it and hardly using it for years!
my first mobile phone Soney Ericsson w595 it was a nice phone but now it broke down so i am very sad but i will be very happy if i got this phone so i hope i win i will be very happy and geatful to you.
I got my first phone when I was nine years old. It was an Alcatel and I hated it because it was a flip phone. A year later, I got the LG Chocolate (slider, not touchscreen). I loved it!
I remember my first mobile phone, may still have it somewhere (being a bit of a hoarder). If I described it as brick like, you may realise we are going back a few years! At the time the whole battery which made up the back of the phone had to come off to charge it up, so you couldn’t charge it and use it at the same time. And of course the batteries were made of different stuff, so you had to discharge it completely before recharging or it became less and less effective! “These kids today, just don’t know what we had to put up with”!
I think I was about 17yrs and had saved up for a cheap and cheerful pay as you go phone and Tesco had a special offer. It was absolutely awful, hardly any reception and it kept chewing up my credit. I spent most of the time getting a refund from customer services.
My first phone was a trium. I just wanted something for emergency calls and texts, nothing fancy, no frills and it did the job
i got my first mobile phone when i was 14, i mithered my parents and eventually they caved, i didnt mind which one as long as it had text messaging, i wasnt aware they all had text messaging on them! ha! it was an alcatel and it was purple, the cases snapped off and you could change them, i loved it until everyone had snake on their nokia’s and i got jealous!
My first mobile was a brick from Nokia. I was given it by my husband after a terrifying experience when my car suffered a total electrical failure on a remote country road mid November on a wild stormy night.
My first phone was like a brick and believe it or not im still using it so would love to win this superb prize my fingers are crossed.
me and my sister clubbed together our first wage and shared one. It was ugly and massive and we used to argue over it all the time
mine was a massive motorola beast that i was given for work, it came with 2 batteries that you had to swap around when you need to charge it and the mouthpiece flipped down and the aerial pulled up…i hated it so much i couldn’t believe people would actually walk around outside talking on the phone without being embarrassed…my god how things have changed!
It was in 2000 when I moved from South Africa to the UK. It was a sagem.
I had an old house brick of a phone when I was expecting me first child but one day when I was eight months pregnant my car broke down but of course there was no signal
I’m still using my first mobile phone – I really like it but could be persuaded by a smartphone.
I remember my fist phone. I got it when I was 15 and it was a brick. I loved it though and use to spend hours playing on it.
My first mobile was nearly the size of a brick with a long aerial that had to be pulled out to make a call. It had a plastic cover with a perspex see-through cover over the buttons. How things have moved on!
my first phone was a philips, the screen could display one line of text at a time, spent most of my time squinting at it!
My mother bought me my first mobile. I was about 20 years old and had to drive the coolest clapped out mini (with an apple painted on the bonnet) across the moors to work everyday. When the exhaust fell off in the middle of nowhere I couldn’t really argue with her to get one. We went into town and got the biggest “brick” you can imagine. I also managed to get a parking ticket that day as it took so longer than expected to sort out the contract. (It was 20 years ago)!
It was a Phillips Savvy and it was indestructable! I loved it, the screen had 2 lines of text which light up a green colour.
Was OK.
I got my first mobile phone around 1996 and it had an ariel that pulled up hahahaha!! It was a luxury but I was in the forces then and it was a godsend to keep in touch with family. I never could resist calling the house phone from upstairs though to get my mum to put the kettle, go on admit it, you’ve all done it!!! I wish I had kept it, just to show the kids really
)
My first phone was a motorola, it was about 20 years ago and i bought it second hand off a lady i used to do some cleaning for, i think she only let me have it cheap so she could phone me all the time to go round and mind her kids, which i also did regularly. I remember showing it to my grandad, he was amazed! He used to love all kinds of gadgets and he would have been thrilled with all the “new fangled technology” around today!
I remember it having an aerial and thinking it was just like the phones you saw on the X-files.
My first mobile phone was a Nokia brick and I was given it at work. I can remember just how how heavy it was in my handbag. I did love it though and loved using it , although it was basic as basic can be.
My first phone was a Motorola MR30 the size of a small brick, the sim was credit card size! My partner got a Nokia 5.1 which was even bigger. No data, no mms just calls and texts. At the time I thought it was amazing, how times have changed.
Not very good – Nobody I knew had a mobile phone so I had no one to text to
My first ever mobile phone was from a Coca-Cola promotion. You had to collect the ring pulls, i think it was 50 of them and send them off and you recieved a free mobile phone…….. I think this is where my love of coke came from, because i saved enough ring pulls for 3 phones, so my family all had one!!!!!!
my first phone was the nokia mars bar phone I thought it was the bees kness at the time but the signal was rubbish
My first mobile phone was huge (compared to today’s)and the first time it rang, I didn’t know how to answer it and missed the call!
My first mobile was the Sony ‘mars bar’ or that’s what it looked like. I was too embarrassed to ever use it or tell anyone I had it. I went out on a girls night out that went on and on and on and so went home very late to which my boyfriend (now husband) was upset I hadn’t called hime and said ‘you wanted a mobile, why don’t you use it’ !
My first phone was a Nokia and all I could do on it was answer it if it rang. I have come a long way since then and am doing well understanding my Blackberry
My husband and I decided to buy our first mobile on the spur of the moment. None of our friends had one and we had never seen one before. We sat in the shop with the salesman totally clueless as to what he was saying about the technology and how it worked. Ended up with a Philips Savvy and as huge and heavy as it was it did it’s job perfectly! Oh, how things have moved on!!!
I was 18 (just – back in the day when you had to be to have a phone) and the last girl in the 6th form to get a mobile, as my parents wouldn’t help me out! It was a Nokia brick from Carphone Warehouse on Cellnet I think! I remember being delighted I could now play “Snake” and constantly change my ringtone like my schoolfriends!
didn’t get one until i was about 20, it was one of those huge motorola bricks lol
@emmav6
I bought my first mobile because I was picking my Dad up from hospital after he’d had a hip op and wanted to be sure I could contact somebody ‘in case of emergency’. I charged it up but didn’t bother reading the instruction manual. Well why would you! Unfortunately when I tried to use it I couldn’t get through. I didn’t realise that you have to put the area code number in front of all calls even if they’re local. Duh! I still have that old Nokia phone and am thinking of using it as a doorstop.
It was a motorola with a big ariel, I liked to be able to contact someone in an emergency best but hated lugging the thing around
My first mobile was given to me by an now ex. (Not sure if he wanted to keep tabs on me). It was years ago, when phones were really chunky and you still had an arial. I still have it, and my little one thinks it’s hilarious. (I don’t however use it though)
My first mobile will be this mobile ” Sony Xeperia P smartphone” because I’ve never had one and this mobile looks the best fit for me.
my very 1st mobile i got was a contract phone and the 1st bill was £200.00 i took a heart attack when i read it and didnt know how i was going to pay it but i made sure i never got another bill like that again lol
I was happy to be able to make and receive calls.
My first phone was a presant when I was 16 in 1996 was a BT Cellnet,I was really embaressed about even having a mobile phone,I think you had to buy air time aswell as credit, and iwasnt untill,I didnt use it much inface when I had my baby in 2000 she started to use it as a toy,it proberly still worked, but it wasnt untill I got my next phone in 1998 that I found out about txt messeging and that the old BT cellnet did that to…
I was 22 Mobiles had just hit the high street and I got a job at Peoples Phone, mostly they were for business and it was pre text so only for calls!
My first mobile was a florescent Green Swatch phone about 8″ by 2.5″ I used to have to hang out of my bedroom to use it and nobody else had one so I had nobody to call lol! 1994!
My first mobile phone was a Siemens CL75 that my MIL bought for my birthday. I had it for years, rarely used it and didn’t see the point of smartphones…until I bought one. I now take my iPhone everywhere, it never leaves my side!
my boyfirend bought it me and it was basically a brick back in those days
The kids were 6 and 7 (13 years ago) and the phone was like the size of half a brick!! I used to keep it in a Tamagotchi sock!
it was a novelty, phone wasnt used much, but is soon became outdated!
My first mobile was the Nokia 3310. My sister had the same phone and we always used to ring each other, but she wasn’t great at voice dialling. She used to hold the phone up so close to her mouth and shout a persons name so loud at the top of her voice (sometimes in public too). Needless to say it never worked!
My first mobile phone resembled the one used by Dom Joly on Trigger Happy TV!! A big Nokia phone… I was addicted to the Snake game and was proud of my 1000+ point highscore on the Snake game!
It was a very liberating experience to be abe to ring from anywhere
I’ll tell you when I win this one
I think I was a young teenager when I got my first mobile – it was pretty big and heavy – to my recollection, it was a NOKIA! How far mobiles have come since then, I thought it was amazing at the time though!
My mum bought me mine as a surprise present when I was feeling sad about having to move flat in 1999, it was a big Vodaphone. You didn’t get cases in those days so I painted it with purple glittery nail varnish!
My dad and stepmum bought me my first phone for Christmas when I was about 15, My dad took me shopping about a week before Christmas for it, when we got home he handed me the manual but wouldn’t let me touch the phone till Christmas day. I knew everything there was to know about that phone!
I was 16 years old & had just started going to college, I wasn’t in good health so my parents brought me my first mobile more for safety reasons & more inpendance than me just ‘wanting’ it. I had it for one day & my mate Kevin was playing around on it & he locked it by accident. He was so worried about me not having a phone to contact someone in an emergency he followed me everywhere incase something happened to me, which I couldn’t stay angry at him as he was so sweet. I got home & Kevin said I’m coming in to tell your parents I broke your mobile & I will pay for it to be fixed. He was so scared to tell my dad but even my impressed by how much he cared for me. So thats my story of my first mobile phone, a Nokia brick lol.
Got one 7 years ago, ’cause daughter told me to get one. Sat for 6 months never used, now use it a lot and yes its still the same one, working well.
my first mobile phone was a motorola memphis which you could also power by 4AA batteries. got it the first xmas after my eldest was born 15 years ago. i still have the phone and the original box somewhere
My first mobile was one of the massive brick sized ones lol i was 15 and my big brother got it for me,it took batteries and didnt need a charger!
my first mobile phone was a Motorola Memphis, complete with a pull up ariel! a choice of 6 ring “tones” ~ very shrill sounding!
Only problem was that the only other person who I knew with a mobile was my sister… and we lived in the same house… so it never rang!
My first mobile was an early Motorola, and it was so heavy and brick-esque thta it doubled as a formidable weapon. I was given it at age 13, and was really impressed I could text my friends, even though I could only see two words at a time on its tiny green screen, and the texts cost about 20p…
i was 15 – one of those hugeee chunky nokias ! was £80 and at first you couldn’t even text on them ! it was on orange and calls were extortionate ! Eventually you could buy flasing arials though which was sooo exciting lol ! How things have developed !
I was already 14 years old when my brother moved to work in USA and left me his Nokia mobile phone! I was first in my class to have mobile! Felt very very cool indeed
But since none of my friends had mobile, hardly anybody texted me and I ended up answering calls from my parents wondering where I was lol!
my very first mobile phone was for business use when I was taxi driving – it was a huge in car thing with a huge battery pack on the bottom. The aggreement was it was for work purposes only and I could make personal calls but I would be billed for them. ( I was a taxi driver then!) I managed to run up £150 bill in a week which was more than my weeks wages!! My boss was not impressed – it took me three weeks to pay off the bill!
I remember playing snake for ages!!!
I was 29 – I had been given a pager a few weeks before which everyone was carrying around but I hated it lol. My Boyfriend (now hubby) upgraded his phone and gave me his cast off. It was a big old Nokia but I loved it
It was a motorola clam shell that made me feel very proud.
My dad hid the phone in the christmas tree then phoned it and I had to find it!
My first phone was taken at age 15 My father took me as a gift
I got my first phone – a clunky Nokia candybar – in 2000. My parents wanted me to stay in touch when I was travelling outside the UK, so I had to trawl around all the phone shops looking for the (very few) phones that worked internationally. No colour screen or fancy features, but it swtiched on a lot faster than my current phone! It lasted me about 5 years, and I still have the SIM card and tariff.
my first mobile is nokia 2300 in that there is facility of radio…..and with that only i was so glad that time
I’d just started uni – so it came in handy getting some girls digits
It was 1996 and I felt like Neo from The Matrix, as I received my first mobile phone, a Nokia 8110, with its spring loaded sliding cover. Looking back its hard to believe its was perceived as futuristic at the time. No camera or smartphone features of today, but still a great phone!
My first mobile phone was huge compared to the size of them now, but I was very pleased at the time
my first phone i bought myself was the nokia 5110 i loved it cos it had interchageable covers and even back then was a dead easy phone to use
MY FIRST MOBILE PHONE WAS AN OLD BRICK AND STILL GOT AN OLD BRICK NOW.WOULD LOVE A NEW MOBILE ESPECIALLY A LASTEST ONE
I brought it from Dixons on my school lunch break, so I could keep in touch with a boy I was seeing. I belive it was a motorola, and had the smallest screen. I think it cost £50. It did the job I guess lol. Still with the boy now 12 years later
Our first mobile phone was A NoKia I think it was the size of a brick and weighted heavier.
I remember we went to Coventry and he was lugging it round, We stopped off at Pizza Hut to have a meal when the phone started to ring he made a dash to the gents to take the call, could you imagine if nowadays everyone run to the toilet if their phones rung, it would be impossible1111
I held out for ages before getting a mobile phone but eventually caved in at the beginning of 2001. Nokia 3310. Great phone.
It was a Nokia ..cant remember the model….and it was grey
My first mobile was a Siemens from Sainsburys at 89.00. It was huge, never had a signal, I’d have to hang out windows or walk up and down the street waving it in the air to get a text to go. It held 10 texts then the memory was full. I thought it was so modern and cool and I was 40 then, lol.
It was heavy and did the job, but it was a lot less flimsy and temperamental than today’s models.
I was 16 in 1999. it was the year mobile’s became affordable for the masses. I worked very hard in a summer job (collecting fares on a road train) and saved £70 (no mean feat earning just £2.75 an hour!) for a Vodafone MN1. it was beautiful black with blue and the front and a curvy side and little aerial. 15p a text! it’s crazy thinking back now. I had it for two months and then a friend managed to lock it by entering the incorrect pin a few times to the point it asked for a PUK code! one of my brothers *mates* said he could fix it. I never saw my lovely MN1 again
thanks for the memory! x
It was soooo big and ugly its probably in a museum somewhere!
My phone was a large Nokia Brick, didn’t even fit in your pocket properly, and had an aerial as big as a pencil eraser.
My first mobile was a Motorola back in 1995. I carried it around in my handbag and was terrified of it really! Was so embarrased if it rang in public and always got cut off after a minute or two! Nightmare, unlike the phones these days.
My first phone was a classic Nokia. I called my mum whilst out shopping with a friend at the tender age of 15 and proudly said ‘mum, I’m calling you from an actual mobile phone’ I thought I was so cool. Funny thing was, the signal kept breaking up but that didn’t matter because I thought I was the bees knees!
My first mobile was bought for me as a present. At the time I felt so proud of it and flashed it around. Now… when I look back it was big, ugly, only held 10 text messages at a time, no camera, very very basic indeed. But I felt the bees knees with it. And the sad thing is… I still have it!!! But before you ask, no I don’t still use it, it’s just a momento now.
I remember watching the tv series ‘Bread’ and the cool character Joey had a massive brick size mobile phone but everyone thought he was so cool in the 80′s! My first phone was not far off a brick size. It’s amazing to think how advanced they’ve become. People even use their mobiles at weddings, christenings, birthdays because the quality is so good!
I was 15 and the 1st to get a phone in my year!!!… it was a right brick nokia!!! Id had it 2 weeks, dropped it and broke the hard ariel on the top.. cost me £75 to fix! I was gutted..
I was 16 and just started college, it was a hideous sagem with an ariel……the buttons were hard to press and it was back in the day where it had one weird snake game and no colour
My first Nokia mobile was taken from me at knife point. It was so heavy I hope he got a really bad neck!!!!!
mine was a phillips savvy which I got in 1999. it was massive with had the antennae on the top! I still have it somewhere in a cupboard
I was about 10, and it was a blue phillips phone with a big aerial, I was so chuffed! It was the first and last thing I ever remember my dad buying me!
My first phone was a red alcatel phone. It was cute but very chunky. I thought I’d never figure out how to use it. I’m not sure why all it could do was make calls it didn’t even have a camera.!!
I was 16 and went to the shop with my mum to pick it!
I felt like I’d joined the space race at last!
It was a mitsubishi flip phone, I ad to pay for it myself as my parents wouldn;t get me one. No wonder I never call them!
My first mobile phone was a Nokia, small, neat and compact. I didn’t have a clue how to use it and asked my teenage son. He soon set it up, but wasn’t sure how to use it. It took a while to learn the various functions, and I found it difficult having to press each key several times when trying to text.
Thank goodness for smartphones.
I was 35 years old and really did not want a mobile phone as I insisted I really didnt need one – what would I need a mobile phone for ? I would never use it ! How wrong I was ! LOL! My husband bought me my first phone saying ‘It will come in handy’ – Your not kidding ! Now the house phone is like some dusty antique in the corner. My phone is no ‘top of the range’ phone but how lost I would be without it now – Its like a little friend.
it was so wonderful to be able to talk without parents listening all the time!
I think my first mobile, acquired in 2000, was a cast-off from my daughter! We were in the middle of a complicated move from England to Wales at the time – complicated in that we’d sold our house in Kent and had bought the house in Wales, but needed to stay in England until my daughter had finished her A Levels. So we lived in a holiday cottage for a couple of months, and drove to and from Wales every few days transporting our furniture. Hence the need for a mobile. It was a Nokia; I’ve tended to favour Nokia since then buying another a few years ago, which I still have & use.
it was a big black brick and I had no idea how to work it! Had to ask my young daughter!
It made phone calls and sent texts and that was it, even had a retractable aerial! Me and the other half had matching phones (hers was red to avoid confusion)
I was about 22 and my first phone was like a brick!! I had to empty my handbag to fit it in. It had a tiny screen that you could only read about a sentence of any text message. It had no games, no camera, no Internet and no other interesting features, but I loved that phone and was so proud I had a mobile……… Not many people did then!!!
I needed to take out a gym membership to build myself up to be able to carry carry the ‘not so mobile’ phone!
We were in the process of moving house 13 years ago and our prebooked holiday coincided with the offer date, so I had to buy a mobile phone to make sure we didn’t lose the house we were trying to buy. I have many memories on the beach at Weston-super-Mare talking to solicitors and estate agents negotiating for the house which we eventually bought and are still living in today! So my one mobile brick got me hundreds of house bricks!
My experience of getting my first mobile phone was that I would have to develop muscles in my arms as it was so heavy – mind you, it was in 1986!
I was in my 50s when I got my first mobile – and some years after my daughter became ‘mobile’. She would send a text in under 10 seconds whilst I took about half an hour! Sadly, things have not changed much!
I was about 12 years old when my dad got me my first mobile phone for Christmas. It was a Nokia (can’t remember the name!) it was like a brick and had a fixed aerial at the top! i remember buying a set of rainbow keypads to replace the standard white ones lol!!
i was 16….. it was christmas and it was the sony Ericsson tomb raider phone came with a tomb raider game pre installed was rubbish now if you look at it but awesome at the time … as i love games so this is a must when i look at phones the first thing i did was ring the house phone even though i was home i know very sad …..
My first Mobile phone was a Nokia, It was the size and weight of a brick. It was bought for me when pregnant with my daughter in case I went in to labour when no one was with me but it wouldn’t have made any difference because i had no idea on how to use the thing!!! I never thought I would use one again xx
my first phone was a motorola m3288,about 11 years ago( i still have it though i dont use it) fantastic phone for its day no camera just calls and txts, only downside was the aerial sticking out the top about 3″ allways stuck into you.fantastic reception though always had a signal
I remeber it was a Motorola on Ornage network and my mum bought it from the local Co-op!! It cos £45 which was alot of money with i was 14! Trouble is because i was the first of my friend to get one i didnt have anyone to text.
My first mobile was a Nokia brick. It was very basic and was just a phone without text or camera or anything sophisticated EXCEPT that it had a torch !! Well, one day I dropped it in the toilet .. after .. well you can imagine! After that it never worked again .. not surprising really!!
My parents decided to buy me my first mobile when I was about 15 years old. (geez that’s almost 13 years ago now!) I already acquired a sim card (who remembers the Genie (o2) sim cards with free unlimited texts??) They got me a Nokia 3210 when on holiday in Andorra and despite it being tax free still cost over £200! The first thing I did was rip off the ugly grey fascia and put on a bright pink one! I miss interchangeable covers!
It was a work one and the size of a brick!
First phone was a brick and had an ariel that you had to pull out. Display was one line of numbers only like a 70′s calculator. Still only cost £5 per year!
Happy memouries

Hubby & I got our first mobiles at the same time when we were expecting our first baby nearly 16 years ago, so we could stay in touch while he was at work. Made life so much easier & thankfully I went into labour in the middle of the night anyway, rather than when he was at work.
Happy days, baby was born in November of ’96 weighting 7lb 13oz. Perfect!
my first phone was a hand me down! not that exciting!
It wasn’t quite a brick but it wasn’t far off! On Orange…it’s that long ago I can’t even remeber the make! haha.
I was 18 and got a Nokia 5.1. It was like a house brick, but I thought i was really cool going off to University with this phone. Thank god I did have it got me out of a few scrapes too.
My husband got me my first mobile phone to keep me safe whenever I was travelling on my own – I thought that was the sweetest thing ever!
My first mobile was back in 1999, I was working for Our Price Records, and Virgin Mobile had only just come out, this was the first year Virgin mobile was established and were only avaible from Our Price stores. On the christmas of 1999 we all received a package from Head office on xmas eve, upon opening the packages was a brand new Alcatel one touch max for each memeber of staff. So my very first mobile phone was a christmas gift from Richard Branson, inc a hand written message from Richard himself. The phone is still going after all these years, it has been handed through the family and still going strong. (image of phone here: http://tinyurl.com/crrdjcg )
My first mobile was given to my buy my high-flying brother at the time (many years ago) and was the size and weight of a house brick!
My first mobile was a Nokia 3310, and unbelievably my wife is still using it, she says it is vintage!
My first mobile phone was a Philips cellnet.Large by today’s standards with a sim the size of a credit card.I got it for my work and originally felt terribly self conscious receiving and making calls when out and about. No texts,no Internet and no games but it earned its keep.
My first mobile was a hand-me-down, as have all the rest of them since.
I have always loved communication – my phone bill reached the skies. When I opened my new birthday mobile I was unsure of this small object. But when I learnt how to text it was a window into a new world. I’ve now forgotten what its like to be out of touch when away from the land-locked standard phone. To sail away from the house, on foot or by car, whenever i like and still talk, or text, my friends is still unbelievable to me. I just can’t get over what we can do nowadays.
And where will we be tomorrow!!!
Ahhhhhh, my Nokia 3310 #dreamy-eyed. What a handsome well-built chap he was !
I loved my first phone – nokia 3410 – i actually miss the simplicity of it!
I only got my 1st mobile phone in my late 50s , not very up on all this modern tech so i got my daughter to set it up for me . Thought i was very clever texting friends and family my mobile number ! unfortunately the only replies i got were “very good but who are you ?? oops did not put my name on the message so they had no idea who the texts were off !!!!!!!!
I thought i was the dog’s doodahs with my first phone, a huuuge Nokia, back in 1996. It cost me an arm and a leg and i remember it had a credit card sized sim slotted into the back.
Had an old school Nokia, was living the dream with this ‘brick’ of a phone, but played pool with a mate and smashed the screen! Was livid as only had it for a couple of days!
I can’t remember my first phone – I stuck my heels in and refused to get one for YEARS until I had my girls and thought it would be a good idea to be contactable
I got my first mobile phone in 1999 when I also got my first car – after nearly 20 years of not driving after passing my test!
It was a shiny blue one, got it when I moved away to go to uni. Good times!
I loved my first mobile phone! It was back in the days when all mobiles did was phone, text and play “Snake”. I spent hours doing just that and changed my ringtone on a daily basis!
i did spend almost the same money before 8 years buying the Sony Ericsson T630 which it couldnt play an mp3:) but it had a camera 0.3 mega pixels and had a great design..
My 1st mobile lasted about a month until I dropped it in front of a bus
my first mobile was called a “Rabbit phone” – I know I hesitated when I typed it.
, and it would make calls but not receive them and only worked in certain locations. It was a flip style phone. This was followed by a mars bar mobile, which was considered to be high tech when it came out.
i was 16 when i got my first phone. i was 16 and leaving home for college. it was a champaign colour and the size of a brick!
It was huge! Got it when expecting third baby so could notify husband as soon as he needed to head home – trouble was things happened so quickly and I kept dialing the wrong number – so it was not a lot of help and nearly piut me off mobile phones for life!!
It was a Nokia brick and I remember finding the predictive text so confusing!
I remember that my mum wouldnt let me get a mobile until I went to secondary school.
It seemed so unfair. Most of my friends at primary school had a mobile. I felt untrendy!
Well, in the year 2000 I started secondary school. Still, no moblie phone.
Soon it was christmas and my mum gave me a shiny wrapped box to open.
I wonder what this could be I thought. Could it be my moblie I’ve been waiting for? I instantly opened up my gift to find my mobile. A nokia 3310! Totally amazing phone! It had the game snake on it! COOL! The phone lasted about 7years. So it saw me all the way through secondary school. I will never forget my nokia 3310.
I was 13 at the time and I was really excited about getting one. It was a really bacic phone and the only thing I really used it for was to play snake
I was about 14 years old, it was when Nokia 3210′s had been out for a while, I begged and begged my dad to buy me and my brother one, although he probably couldn’t afford it he eventually gave in and bought us both one. 2 days later I was showing off with it on the bus and ended up losing it!!!!! To this day, I still feel sick with guilt whenever I think about it!
I’d avoided getting a mobile phone for years but when I moved to university (as a mature student) my mother insisted I have one and bought me a motorola. Simple thing, 10 text message memory, phone and that was about it. We just went into a local Link and bought it PAYG on BT cellnet.
Still works over 10 years on, but since then I’ve had a couple of smartphones which are actually useful
my first phone was bought when mobile phones were like bricks. Hardly anyone had them and I kept it in my bag – I felt too embarassed to use it in public and also it was really expensive to call from!
I had a ‘brick’. I put my friends phone numbers in with the most fancy way i could… not realising that it wouldn’t connect calls with pretty stars, hyphens etc in them! Cue the next few hours of correcting EVERY SINGLE ONE! haha
I’m 46 years old and only succumbed to my first mobile a couple of years ago as my husband said I have to have one in case I break down in the car. He said that public telephones are few and far between these days, so I now have a little Samsung phone, which is simplicity itself, but serves its purpose!
my first mobile was a brick with an ariel and I loved it and thought i was great
I got my first mobile phone when I was 25, it was a large Nokia which I had lots of changeable covers for. I thought it was great, it was easy to use as all it did was phone and text.
My first phone was a Nokia 3310 that I got one Christmas and probably used it for Snake more than texts or calls. It would probably still work now if I knew where it was though!
I was about 14 when mobile phones became popular. I had an old motorola brick that you could happily chuck off a cliff and it would still work. I was amazed by the thing. My parents got my sister, aged 11, one too. When a MASSIVE bill came through, they assumed it was 14 year old me and cut me off… through my sobs, I eventually (after a good few days) managed to persuade them it was my sis, the little brat! Forgiven her now though, and we keep our phones well and truly separate.
My first phone was so big it had a handle and was very very heavy and huge but I thought it so amazing that I didn’t care that it was bigger than my handbag!
the thing i remember about my first mobile was that it was huuuuge
I was a latecomer to mobile phones but when I finally gave in to peer pressure, I was talked into an expensive, inappropriate contract! I left my new phone by my bed and when it rang during the night, I punched my alarm clock, knocked it over and smashed it! Oh, the call was a wrong number!
I remember getting a sleek gold number (brand unknown, probably doesnt even exist)! and receiving my first ever text number. Little did i know how big texting would mark some memorable moments in my life!xxx
my 1st mobile was HUGE, it was a phillips (didn’t even know they made phones)and it was so long ago i couldn’t even text! and it was soooo expensive to make calls, but i still thought i was cool!
I was about 12 or 13 and I had a BT Cellnet mobile, I thought it was amazing! I was always finding excuses to text people. Choosing a new ringtone was one of my highlights hehe
My half sister got me my first phone for my 13th birthday, just 2 months after I learnt she even existed! Our Dad died a few months before my birthday, and she came to his funeral and it was the first time I ever met her or knew she even existed! She bought me a Trium?? phone with this massive antennae and it was meant to connect to the internet (which was huge then) and all it did was some weird html games/chat things so was a bit odd. I dropped it down the toilet about 6 months later (im so sorry) and then I got a massive brick Siemens phone !
I can remember my first Nokia and being addicted to the game snake
I am getting on and my first mobile phone was a godsend, I have a condition where I am somewhere very familiar and suddendly don’t recognise my surroundings, prior to having a phone I would wander around hopelessly lost untill I started to recognise buildings, streets again it was really upsetting and hated going out alone, with a mobile it gave me freedom, if I sort of lost my recognition of places I would ring up a family member to come and find me, I don’t seem to get those episodes often now only very occasionally I feel so confident, That’s down to my first mobile.
3 words: Addicted. To. Snake!
It was so expensive to ring anyone, I still used call boxes! I only had it so I could be contacted in an emergency!
It was so long ago I can’t even remember it!!
I was 11 years old and it was a Motorola brick from morrisons for £30. I did think it was good at the time, although can’t remember using it too much!
My children had a phone before i did. eventually i was dragged screaming into 20th century when my family bought me an Alcatel for my birthday.(over 40th i’m afraid).I am on my third phone but it is far from smart and if i am not to be left totally behind by technolgy i need to update!
My first phone was like a brick and had a likeness to a childs play phone.
I was 16 and it was a Phillips Savvy and it was an absolute brick! I dropped it multiple times and it took ages to send a text cos you had to press so hard on the buttons! Haha! Ah sweet memories!
I only got my first phone 8 years ago and I still have it. I was determined not to be a slave to a tecchy object however my mates got tired not being able to get hold of me so one was brought for me as a pressie . I try not to rely on it too much and am conscious not to let others suffer by hearing my private conversations. I still have my brick of a phone and at some stage may even get one with a camera! LOL
the first phone I had was an alcatel one touch pro in 1998. With barclays functions. I could get mini statements via text!
The first phone I had was a basic vodaphone pay as you go in 1999.
Was a bit of a brick but very useful
ha ha I had a bt cellnet. it was blue and rare lol
It was a huge big thing with a pull out aerial and a battery that lasted for about half an hour, but I felt so cool walking around talking on it! Got some funny looks mind – it’s hard to think that having a mobile phone was unusual at one point!
I was about 6 years old, I’m 22 now, and it was a Christmas present. It was a Black motorola, the one with an orange screen and an antenna that was the size of a lampost. It was the best mobilephone I’ve ever had, however I haven’t compared it to a Sony Xperia yet
I wasn’t quick to get a phone, so by the time I did, they were smaller than the breeze-block sized first ones. Still, it was chunky and had a large aerial, but it worked fine and I had it for six years until my water bottle leaked in my handbag and the Motorola was silenced for ever. I still miss it …
x
My first mobile… I was 10 and I’d begged my dad for a mobile. It was a motorola! I loved it – and I was the king of Snake! Remember that?!
A Philips Savvy in a lovely shade of blue with an aerial stuck out the top that always got caught in your pocket. Missed more calls than I answered but it was still working when it was put in the loft.
My first mobile phone was the one from The Matrix! My boyfriend got it for me as a present and I thought it was the best thing in the world, it was so sleek (though it would look huge compared to this amazing prize).
When I look back it was a brick and I was excited it did text messages!
Way back in ’99 I had one of the BT Cellnet brick jobs that probably most kids dont even realise phones were that bulky just 10-15 years ago!! I would ring everyone up with random nothings just so I could do it on the train or bus!! And sending text messages was a bit of a mystery as I needed to find someone else with a mobile!
*AHEM* I was also the proud owner of a pager in those days too, with no official use whatsoever for it!
My boss and his wife bought me my first mobile phone over 15 years ago, just a plain and simple Nokia, the reason they bought it for me was one day he had filled his Landrover Discovery up with petrol instead of diesel and coming home over the desolate moors of Yorkshire the vehicle just stopped and had to wait over 2 hours for the AA and my daughter was stuck at her childminders so they thought it was about time I had a mobile.
I got my first mobile in 1996 and it was a nokia, very big and heavy and was blue
Many, Many, Years Ago on this Planet, to long ago to remember I got my First Mobile Phone, it resembled a brick. It worked, well sometimes.
It was a Nokia of sorts, and you could change the case. I went for a pink furry one which soon turned a pleasant shade of brown – classy!!
My first phone a hand me down from my older sister. You had to pull the aerial out when you got a call and it was like a brick carrying it around. Good times!!
My first mobile phone was a Nokia, it was handed down to me by one of my sisters as she had bought a newer version, i liked it because it had the snake game on it! she had one with a colour screen which was ‘awesome’ at the time LOL
i was 10 years old and it was nokia 3210 played snake all the time loved it
I got my first mobile in 1999. It was because I was expecting my second child and was worried being out and about and not being able to contact anyone. My husband got it me. It was a good job he did, because I got a flat tyre and was able to call for help. Needles to say the phone was massive and like a brick, but it saved me.
A Sony, I got free, when I opened a bank account with the RBS. It was rubbish!
It was just after I left school! A big brick like thing with a huge aerial and it didnt even have text messaging!
My first mobile phone was a philips PH301. It was very basiccompared to modern phones.
I was quite excited when I first got and charged it up. However, I hardly used it as calls were so expensive. Handy to have in case of a breakdown or other emergency but…
It was like carrying a brick around !!
I had a Nokia 3210 in 1999! I was the only person I knew to have it – most of my friends didn’t even have mobiles at that point and I used to think I was so cool! How embarrassing!
It was a Nokia 3310 and was special to me as I’d saved my pocket money to buy it on PAYG. I loved playing snake and thought it was great that it could even store up to ten text messages at a time :O
I remember my first mobile phone – it was bigger than me!
I was 8 years when i got my first phone and it was U8360 3G phone. I finally felt like an adult with a phone. i was so happy with it i just spent my whole time trying to understand the settings, I usually ending up changing the setting. I wasn’t allowed to take to school but i did’t care because i could tell everyone all about my new phone. It was towards the end of me having that i realised that i could voice record and i felt like i had discovered something big and wonderful. i loved to bits and it was hard to let go of.
I was 11 years old. It was a pink and white flip up phone. At the time it was the best phone ever. However, now, I look back, it was rubbish. No bluetooth, no memoey, no video camera etc!
When I got my first mobile it was a Nokia 100 and the shop assistant in currys thought I was strange because I asked him if it worked in valleys.
I had a nokia brick ans was obsessed with Snake
I got mine for my 18th birthday. Everyone called it a James Bond phone because it had a button on the back which made the bottom flip out!
My first mobile was circa 1993 and I had a one-2-one handset. Wow, it was chunky, with a pull out aerial. How things have changed!
I will always remember my first phone lol, i was 13 by the time i got one, and it was a nokia, a big brick, begged my dad for ages to buy me the phone so he always knew where i was, and he brought it for me in the end after months of asking, i was so chuffed, took it everywhere with me xx
I got a Panasonic when I was 16 (when phones where still really new). I remember I loved absolutely loved it and though it was very stylish. Now it would look as big as a house phone and you could only text people on the same network!
I got my first phone at aged four, it used to ring every five minutes, and I would chat for hours to all kinds of people neither pausing for breath or an answer as my new toy kept me entertained for days on end…….sadly the only entertaining thing about my phone these days is for other people as they snigger at my lack of wi-fi, bluetooth, apps or even a backlight!!
….maybe one day my phone prince will come?
Like a lot of phones from too many years past it was really quite simple, but still fiddly to set up the more advanced functions. But once I’d done that it was good to have my curvy friend with me all the time
I was about 14 when I had my first phone. It was pay as you go and one of the nokias with interchangeable facias and ariels. I used to love getting new fronts and ‘changing’ my phone in the process. The laser and flashing ariels were the best. And who can forget Snake?!! Lol
Such a long time ago now I can barely remember. I would have been in my 30s. Imagine how old I am! I resisted the new fangled equipment for as long as possible, but was eventually persuaded by my husband who isn’t such a luddite. Haven’t looked back since.
My first mobile was supplied by my employer so that I could be called out at night. I didn’t get much use!
My first mobile was forced upon me by my children so they could keep track of me. Well not exactly: I hate waste and they kept getting a new phone far too often it seemed to me so I offered to give their ‘old’ phone a good home. ‘Old’ – my foot, it was a Motorola Razor. But I love the new Sony Xperias!
I was so exited when i got my first mobile phone, I was huge and hardly ever got a signal but i thought it was great.
Got one when my children were teenagers as they had mobiles and could afford to text but not phone.
I was 19 and in my first year at uni. Trying to get on the payphone was nigh on impossible so it meant that I could stay in touch with friends and family. It was a brick of a Nokia with no colour on the screen and the display was tiny
Motorola Star Tac too long ago to remember when,
but it cooked my ear if I took a long call.
my first mobile was a dark green colour, can’t remember which make it was, but it had a big thick black arial on the top of it, i felt that i was very posh to have one and bought it with my first wage when i left school. I remember it had the game snake on it in black and white ! I’m sure i will still have it hidden in a box somewhere
I can’t even remember the make of my first mobile phone, I think it might have been a Nokia, but it wasn’t far off the size of a small brick! I had to carry it in a belt holster, because there was no way I wanted the weight (or size) of it in my pocket all the time. It was amazing to be able to make contact from anywhere though (although it felt expensive!)
I got given a brick of a Nokia in the mid 90s by work, that despite its size I managed to leave on a bus within a month ! Had to pay work a fortune to replace it ! I have always been running to catch up on the phone front, would love to join the world of smart phones xxx
Mine was the nokia 3310 when I was 14 or 15. I remember me and my mates competing on out phones to get three best snake score
I inherited my big brother’s phone when he got a new one. I think he must have played football with it and dragged it cross-country through hedges and mud, but it still worked and I still loved it!
I felt great and up to date with the world in which I was always felt behind
It was one of the very first mobiles. Absolutely huge. I couldn’t even fit it in my pocket. I think I still have it somewhere
It was the 90′s – it was a brick! It didnt have any games or internet or anything! None of my friends had them so couldnt even text them! I just used it to call my mum if I was going to be late home from school! And it cost a fortune! Thank God technology has moved forward! xoxo
My first mobile was an indulgence in 1997, a cute new Panasonic. I thought it would be wonderful and allow me greater freedom to keep in contact with friends and family when I was out and about. Yes, right. This was before digital so distance from the mast was important and in those days mast hadn’t sprung up on every tall building.
The simple truth was that I hardly ever got a usable signal so I was paying to carry around this lump in my pocket. I ended up leaving it in the car. Me and my gadgets!
My first mobile was alcatel I really loved it at the time
My first phone was huge and you couldn’t even send a text. I was incredibly proud of it but it weighed my bag down on nights out!
My first ‘mobile’ couldnt really be called mobile as it was like carrying a suitcase around!! The phone was on top of the battery which was like a car battery and REALLY heavy. My son still doesn’t believe that this was classed as a ‘mobile’ phone!!
my first mobile experience I was excited as I was using my own money I was 14 and had vodafone siemans phone and I was the envy of all my friends lol and it was gold coloured too!
My first phone was a nokia I got it when I was 24 and I soon realised I hated replying to texts.
i got it for christmas one year, i opened all my presents and there was one left under the tree with no name on it, once id opened my last present it started ringing, i was so confused, so my mum told me maybe it was this parcel, i opened it and it was a phone! i ran around the room in excitement, only a nokia 3410 but still was very special to mex
I tried to rebel against the whole mobile phone thing, but then in 2001 someone gave me their old Nokia, and the love affair began.. I could only text and call but it was so liberating. x
Mt first mobile phone was when i was in my twenties (i am 40 now)!! Thankfully i cant remember what the make was but i know it was huge and heavy. I can remember being so proud and taking it out when i went for a meal, it took centre stage on the table. Thankfully times have moved on
The only thing I can remember is that it was the size of a small car.
i can remember my parents buying my first phone it was a nokia 3210 my parents where told this was the phone i wanted for christmas when i was a kid but i didnt and when opened it didnt want to say anything but then started using it and got additive especially snake game and was best present got that christmas
I broke the string which was holding the paper cups together!
I remember getting my first mobile as a gift from my parents whilst at school – it was a Nokia 5110, an absolute brick by today’s standards but cutting edge back in the day! I was the envy of all my school friends!
I remember getting a gold phone on vodafone when I was about 14! I had it for my birthday. I remember buying a case and wearing it on my school trousers showing it off I felt so clever and grown up!
My brother dragged me kicking into the modern era when he bought me my first mobile for my 35th birthday, but I got very confused using it and sent a message about the disintegration of my marriage to my husband instead of my best friend! None too sure my grasp of technology has improved, but I’d love to try with a Sony Xperia.
My 1st mobile was a Nokia ‘brick’ it had a little aerial and did nothing other than call. No such thing as texts on that one! It probably cost a weeks wages and I thought it was fab! I remember it didn’t last long – the microphone stopped working when I tried to phone work to let them know I was going to be late. They couldn’t hear me, but I could hear them. They thought it was a nuisance caller!! Just glad they didn’t think to check who rang or that would have been embarrassing!
I remember my brick fondly, it had a detachable aerial and 1 ring tone – I felt invincible!
My first mobile phone was bought for me by my then 75 year old dad
My first experience of owning a mobile phone was one of complete confusion! I needed to carry the instruction booklet at all times, and also needed to learn how to text. An interesting experience, but very rewarding
It was a brick!
My first mobile was a Nokia 3310. It was so easy to use, I love it!
My first mobile was so long ago all i can remember was that it was a Nokia!
First mobile phone was like a brick, did not look cool at all
My first phone was a Sagem, oh my looking back they where rubbish but I was sooo happy with it, thinks have changed soo much with them for the better
My ex boyfriend bought me my first phone when I was 17 years old. It was a Nokia and was like a brick…can’t find the model when searching it was in 1997. My phone bills were huge!!!
Mine was a Nokia brick and that phone lasted longer than any other phone since and i remember loving snake, so couldn’t complain.
I was about 22, and everyone had started to get a mobile, and I saved all of my wages to get a moterola brick! Where I lived and worked I could barely get a signal, only from the top floor of the bed and breakfast I worked in by hanging out of the window, and when I could get a signal it cost a fortune to ring anyone! How things have changed.
I got my first mobile with my job years ago. I was quite excited – till I realised that my weekends would never be my own again…
I was nearly 40 before I got my first mobile phone and that was because I got a job and they gave me one! I still use a simple one now for the same job. I just need to text and take calls from it. It has a good torch on it though
Not sure what or when I got my first phone but it was very basic, phone ring tones only and it was not the smartest looking phone.
My very first mobile was a BT Cellnet phone (which was huge!), it was a Christmas gift when I was about 13 or so. I remember I had pestered my parents for ages to buy me one, so I was absolutely ecstatic when I opened it on Christmas day! I remember it came with one of those leather cases with the plastic front. At the time it was one of the coolest gifts I had ever received
My first mobile was a Bt Cellnet Phillips C12 when I was about 13 or 14. It was one of the first phones that could send smilies, but only to people with the same phone. Which none of my friends had lol
My first mobile was way back in the 80′s, bought after having a puncture whilst driving on my own late one night. Never been without one since but I seem to be in the minority who use it for MY convenience and nobody elses!
I got a red and silver siemens when I was 13
my first phone in the 90′s was a brick but I thought it was great
i had a new phone quite late and still have it so would love a new one!
I got my first mobile for my 13th birthday. I was the first person in the class to get a mobile (a great big brick like thing with an aerial!) I brought it in for people to look at and they were all amazed!
first phone was after having a pager. my husband bought it after he had his so that we could keep in touch regarding our son throughout the day
aged 24 no less. huge brick of a phone which i then dropped into the toilet on my 2nd day!!! was not impressed and a bad start! needless to say things got better after! phew!
My mum gave my first phone to me but it was only for when i was out without her and ‘only for emergencies’, and of course i never used it for anything but (yeah right!). It had a flip that did nothing but cover the buttons and an aerial so long it could have summoned the ISS but it made me feel so grown up as i was the only one of my friends that had a phone.
A Motorola on Orange which worked OK in the city, but was rubbish when we went out walking in the woods or down by the river!
It was quite a long time ago and all I remember was that it was blue… and I had to share it with my mum and sister, I think my mum bought it so if one of us is going out then she can call us or we can get in touch with her
I got my first mobile for my 14th birthday and I thought I was the coolest ever!
Back in the late 90′s my hubby bought me a present and when I opened it I couldn’t believe my luck,I think my hubby grew to regret buying the gift when I use to text him all day asking him how his day was going
I was 15 I think and got the very first Nokia phone-I was gutted when I lost it-went back to buy another the same as I loved it so much to find out they discontinued it as a newer and smaller model was out…i wanted the old brick!! Ha
My first mobile phone was a Nokia, I remember being so excited at finally owning a mobile. I remember going through the owners manual to learn everything there was to learn about using and caring for my new phone. It felt great to be so accessible by phone no matter where I was. That was 12 years ago. I still own a Nokia (a much newer version), but technology has expanded so much, now everything is smaller, lighter and so much more advanced.
Mine was a massive brick which was a free bonus gift link up by Orange with Barclaycard… It was huge….
My very first mobile phone was a Nokia 5110 – back in 1999. I remember it being on Orange and I’d had 10 free texts a day. As the only other person I knew with a phone was my dad, we used to text each other throughout the day – normally him telling me to stick the kettle on when I get home! It’s amazing how much phones have changed since then and often wonder how much more they’ll change by the time my kids have grown up and have children of their own.
the 1st phone i got was a nec flip phone and after opening the box the 1st words out of me mouth was beam me up scotty, great phone lasted me years and still have it here now, just cant find a new battery for it
It was a big brick compared to mobiles nowadays, but it worked well.
My first phone was an silver Alcatel slightly square looking but I thought it was the bees knees back then lol
It was back in 1997 and it had an awful ring tone.
My aunt gifted me my first phone which was a white nokia..very sturdy phone..
wow wow wow… i would loveeee the phone please…
i got my 1st phone at 16, my brother (the cheeky monster), had told me his friend was selling one for £40, so i gave my brother £40 to buy it off his friend for me, later tho i found out that the phone had actually been £20 and my naughty brother had pocketed the rest!!!! would love to win this so i can finally now (13 years later), have a better phone than him… payback for all those years ago…. hehehe..
thanks guys xxxxx
1997 when I was at uni, it was a huge brick and I thought I was so cool..
My first mobile was only four years ago. I held out so long because I quite like not being reachable all the time. Especially if it’s work calling…
My first mobile was in 2004 the Nokia 7100 it had a video camera to record and was quite big
I got my first mobile phone when i was about 23, it was a nokia and was huge!!
It was the 5110 and i ended up addicted to playing the snake game
My very first mobile I got in 1995 from a busy Mercury One 2 One store (Later One 2 One & then T-mobile) It was a big blue Motorola brick that came with a chunky spare battery that you had to carry around with you because the standby & talk time was so poor. You charged the phone up on a cradle that also had a slot for the spare battery! The phone didn’t have any ability to do anything other than make or receive telephone calls – no texting, no fancy screen, no camera, no fancy ringtones – it was very, very basic & looked more like a child’s toy!
My first mobile was a Nokia 6310, classy bit of kit, it was also very easy to unlock from its network. I long for a simpler mobile phone again.
My first phone was the classic brick type! I had it for far too long actually, people were starting to laugh at me. I’ve learned not to get emotionally attached to phones because otherwise I’d never upgrade!
my first phone was a Nokia 3210, I thought it was the bee’s knees! Loved playing snake on it but quickly got sick of that haha!
OMG it was a massive Motorola size of a brick. Still got in in the house for the kids to laugh at x
My first real mobile phone was a real brick. It was a hand me down from my mum and the battery life was only a couple of hours. It was in the days when you had to have 2 or 3 batteries and keep one on charge to make sure you didn’t run out. The phone itself was like a handheld home phone and all it did was ring people, not even text. But I loved it and was proud of it because it was almost top of the range at the time. Not quite the same as a smartphone, though…
I always used to think I never wanted a mobile phone as I am disabled and use crutches! A close friend thought otherwise and gave me his one as he was concerned just in case something happened to me and i could get him in an emergency but now they have advanced so much and do so many things I love using them and they are so easy to use! As an old saying goes for somthing goes “I never knew there was so much in it”!!
my first phone was when I first started my first full time job at bt cellnet (yes that long ago) the phone was a brick (looked more like a house phone if im honest lol) It would make calls and send texts and my contract was £7.50 a month and if im really honest I felt the bees knees with my little nokia 2110 phone x Oh the memories and its great to see how far phones have come on x this comp made me smile x thanks x
Mine was delivered by the postman with no indication of the sender about seven years ago – it was a Nokia 5146 and i still have it. Last year I found out it was a prize from The Sun newspaper.
It was a bit late in life at 34 years that I got my first mobile phone but once I realised the convenience and the free internet on the move , I cannot do without a mobile. It was a Pay as you go Orange tariff LG mobile.
I was 18 and I used to ring my nan every week. She was concerned my mums phone bill was getting bigger because of the calls, so suprised me with my very own Nokia Brick! lol, she even put credit on it monthly so I could phone her! She’s now in heaven, but thanks Nan! love you xx
My first experience with a mobile phone came when i got an nec g9 … it was a good job i had a ruck sack on that day so i could disperse the weight of carrying it across my whole frame god that sucker was big… it made a breeze block look like a little piece of lego lol.secondly the other thing i remember was getting this foe then being scared to use it as you got about 3 minutes of inclusive calls then you had to pay a fortune per minute..oh yeah thanks mum for all the bail outs with them early billa hahah
my first phone was a blue nokia something ro other, it was HUUUGE
I loved it at the time, even the little pointless sticky up aerial
Like many others, my first was a big black Nokia brick – I wish I’d kept it as a collector’s item now.
My first mobile had a pull up aerial that was only there for show ( I found out a few years later they put aerials on because people expected them , they didn’t actually do anything!)
I was quite old (in my late 20s) when I got given my first mobile – as a Christmas present. It didn’t do much other than text and phone, but I was very proud of it and shed tears when it broke a couple of years later. It wasn’t one of those big, brick-shaped phones but it was pretty basic. How mobiles have progressed in the years since! Who’d have thought it?
It was a BT mobile phone the size of a small brick, and only to be used in emergencies as the cost of making a call was so expensive. I’m sure I still have it in the loft somewhere which I must get out to show the children
I got my first mobile phone one christmas long ago. I remember feeling so excited being able to personalize the screens back ground picture and colour, choosing the phones ring tone was the best listening to them over and over again driving my parents mad!!
my first mobile came with my first car…just in case
my first ever experience was using my brothers, we had to stand with our backs to the wall to get any signal… that was 16 years ago
My first mobile was a heavy, pain -au-chocolat like sony which had an aerial that stuck out and got caught in your hair – you could only make short calls as you would have arm ache otherwise. You couldn’t carry i in your shirt or trouser pocket and so it was either being carried in a holster or by hand.
I saw 16 and was the first of all my friends to get a mobile (who was I going to call??). It was huge, looked like a brick and had a sim card the size of a credit card!
excited then very confused !!!
As something of a late-comer to mobile phones, I finally joined the rest of the “civilised” world and got my first mobile about 8 years ago. It was a Samsung A-800 and it was anything but like a brick; in fact, it was quite dinky and I thought it was great. Of course, its screen was tiny and black-and-white, and it had no camera. Very few specs and quite basic but you could still make calls on the move!
I had my husband’s cast off – it was like having a brick in my handbag!
first mobile was second hand, and I still have it
My first mobile was in 2001 I think, I was 14…was very excited going to the shop to choose one, for my birthday, nobody else in my class at school had their own phone yet and I was all proud to be able to show off
I don’t remember the make but it was huge, with an antennae that you could screw off and put different coloured rubber bands on to ‘customise’ I loved it! Before Nokia was the popular make of choice with the fascias
My first phone was a nokia and it was so exciting to be able to play games snake on it. I must have set my ringtone to every available melody just because it was such a novelty.
My First mobile phone I had was the size of a House brick and it kept losing connection people would not phone me as they were scared at the cost of calls!
I was 18 in 1990 I had just joined the Army It was a big orange bosch phone it was the best thing I had ever seen.
My first mobile was a Nokia 5110 and I thought it was so cool as you could change the cover! Playing snake was the best!
My first mobile..goodness that is so long ago I can’t remember. Life before a mobile phone doesn’t bear thinking about.
I did not get my first mobile until I was 18 years old.
It was a Sagem unit and was the size of a brick but a little bit lighter, I wish I still had it just to see how much things have changed.
then I got my trusty 8210 and stuck with it for a long time
I remember my first phone was bright yellow and could only hold 10 messages in its memory. If the memory was full I couldn’t receive any new messages. It was very frustrating! I can’t imagine how I managed now that I have pretty much unlimited space for messages. I haven’t needed to delete one in years!
I still have not ever had a mobile phone of my own…I borroww my daughters all the time…and often pinch my husbands to text, but never seem to get the time to choose one. Fingers crossed my first will be this one thats up for grabs!!! and no one will be borrowing it then lol
It was an old ‘BT Cellnet’ little black brick lol that had a one line screen with black text on a yellow background and I had when I was a teenager. So old that it wouldn’t even work on the current phone networks because it was ‘analogue’ rather than ‘digital’!
At first I was full of consternation at this new gadget. It was chunky and I was not sure how to operate it. However, as I got used to it and the memory of public phone boxes began to fade into the past, I wondered how the world had ever managed without the use of the mobile phone!
Wow, my first mobile, that takes me back! The first word that comes into my mind is “brick”. I was about 20 when I got my first one, so that’s over 18 years ago now & boy have they changed since then! My boss at the time was getting an upgrade to his phone so offered me his old one. My first mobile. The size of a brick but did the trick! I’ve never looked back since!
It was actually a work phone, a heavy Nokia thing, and it was like magic to have my own phone. I felt very privileged!
I got one whilst at Uni – when they were the size of a brick! And then regretted it when I realised that no-one I knew had a mobile phone at around that time *sigh*. Fortunately they took it back and I did’t get another until about 5 years later!
Nearly 20 years ago I got my first One2One mobile phone. I’ve still kept it to show the kids how technology has moved on so much!
About 15 years ago I was very lucky and won a samsung mobile from mtv, It helped me get my first proper job by letting me be contactable at any time.
My first experience of a mobile phone was in the early 90′s. My friend bought one into work, it was huge and she had to lug around a big black box on her shoulder! I thought it was hilarious and I remember saying “they will never take off”, how wrong was I??????????
I was scared of my first phone and used to give it to my daughter and ask her to send a text for me. There’s no stopping me now though
I think it was about 1996 and I have been with the same network and had the same phone number since then. The price plan I locked onto is still one of the best around (which always amuses me!)
i got my first pay as you go mobile in 1998 for my 18th birthday it was a massive motorola it had 15 ring toone it was soooo basic you typed in numbers and phoned texting was even a new idea lolz i though i was a prop lil snot with ha ha i think the radiation it had off it would have killed my brain x
mine was a nokia and I remember being addicted to the game snake ha
It was a Nokia and I spent far too much time playing snake on it when I could’ve been doing something far more worthwhile!
I bought my first mobile phone in 1997 i think, i was 18 years old and it was a motorola flip-flop, one of the latest in the market. I remember i was really proud of it ’cause i bought it with my one of my first paychecks. Since then i absolutely adore mobile phones and smartphones even more!!!
My first mobile phone had spare cases in several different colours and I thought I was the bees knees going out with a mobile matching my outfit so I used to get my mates to call me just so that I could get it out for everyone to see. Trouble is, the William Tell overture as the ringtone did nothing for my street cred!
My son actually got his first mobile long before me – and when he upgraded to a better one, I inherited his old one. For ages people had to remind me that it was a “mobile” because I always tended to leave it at home when I went out!
I got my first mobile about 10 years ago. It was a work mobile so my first experience was not being able to get away from work! It just kept flipping ringing!!!
my first phone was a sony ericsson, it had a wee scroll wheel. I was so happy to get it, it meant I had finally joined the cool kids
I got my first mobile about 13 years ago. I swore I would not buy one, but my Wife was pregnant and wanted to keep in contact while I was out on the road. Just as well I did, she rang me, only got home in time to rush her to hospital an dou daughter was born within 5 mins of us arriving at the emergency dept.
I was about 13-14 and wasn’t allowed a phone before then. It was back in the day when smart phones were a figment of the imagination. My phone was a motorola with a thick arial. It didn’t even have snake, i hated it!
well, I got my first phone when I lived in LA. I bought the cheapest, most rubbish phone there was available – just for security reasons. How things have changed now, I love gadgets of all kinds…….
it was a nokia like a brick with a lethal aerial that would take your eye out! not good and would take up so much room in my handbag. on the plus side it was so tough!
it was one of those chunky one with the aerial bulky and heavy and the battery kept going flat not impressee
i got one of the little samsung flip phone for my birthday i was so chuffed
My first mobile was a Mercury – the size of a brick! I believe they sell them as ‘retro’ phones nowadays.
im still trying to figure out how to use mine they never had mobiles in my day!
ive only got a little payg nokia basic phone and its very out dated would love a upgrade
had one with an awful vga camera how times have changed
I was mugged! I won £260 at the Bingo the week before ( going to keep my mum happy!!) and won quite big for a young seventeen year old bingo virgin! Bought myself a brand spaking new nokia, was pleased as punch, but on the way home, was accosted by four older blokes and threatened unless I gave them my phone, wallet, they even took my hoody! It put me off Nokia anyway….!
I got my first mobile at the in 2001 age of 51. It was a Sony Ericsson T28 and the reason I bought it was to keep in contact with my then partner, who was in the Army at that time. I loved that phone, it was small, neat and opened at the touch of a button. It didn’t not have any of the mod cons of modern phones but was wonderful for someone who had resisted mobiles until then! Suffice it to say that since then, I have been hooked on them.
My first mobile phone was a Nokia at the ime I thought it was so cool, but looking back it was heavy the technology was ssimple and all you could do was text and call. The advances in mobile phones is amazing
I’m now retired and my first mobile phone if it had wheels was to big to put into your pocket comfortably. I don’t remember the Model number but it was made by Nokia and had an aerial about 6 inches long when pulled out. The one thing i really miss about it is the size of the buttons. A man with extra large fingers could use it without trouble and no glasses were ever required. Those were the days – not.
I was ten years old and had to wait a whole year after my older brother got his! I was so excited to play snake and get an amazing high score on my Nokia 3210!
My first phone was shocking pink and was so big it probably didn’t count as a mobile phone!
Thank you, I have just been looking for info about this topic for a long time and yours is the best I’ve came upon till now. But, what in regards to the conclusion? Are you sure concerning the source?|What i don’t realize is actually how you are not actually much more neatly-preferred than you may be now. You’re so intelligent.
It was when my disabled son first started school, so I bought a massive great motorola – which was the same size as my house phone handset – to make sure I could always be contacted.
My first phone was nokia n70.My dad gave it to me on my 14 th birthday.i loved that phone .it was awesome.i done all kind of stuff in that phone.it was an amazing experience i had.The hardware of the phone was as superb as it survived even from i dropped it from a bike and from the first floor of the building.Truly i loved it and used for 3 years without any problem.

Around nine years ago, it was a beautifull Siemens S60… elegant and stylish!!! I was so happy beacuse, sice I am a gadget fan… it had camera! Thats right… an attached one, but who was like me… waiting for the flash to charge and than trying to take picture of everything around!
The battery was strong enough for 8 to 10 days beteen charges… those were the days my friends!
Not to mention, the phone was bouth from my first salary… so, working hard its going to provide you the best stuff!!! Dont get me wrong, I’ll enjoy the xperia P (considering it is my next phone, becouse the second phone i had it was the sony-erricsson k750i… and from then on I’m a sony phone fan)…
I’ve come across that nowadays, more and more people will be attracted to cams and the subject of pictures. However, like a photographer, it’s important to first expend so much time period deciding which model of video camera to buy along with moving out of store to store just so you could potentially buy the most economical camera of the brand you have decided to choose. But it does not end generally there. You also have to think about whether you should buy a digital camera extended warranty. Many thanks for the good suggestions I accumulated from your site.
This design is wicked! You definitely know how to keep a reader
amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost.
..HaHa!) Wonderful job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
Too cool!
