It’s been a long old wait but next week, THE sporting event of the year is starting right in our back yard. Yes, London 2012 is finally here and we could not be more excited. In the spirit of backing Team GB, we thought we might give being an Olympian a go. Check out our Track, Field, Swimming, Badminton, Cycling and Volleyball must-haves and go all sporty this summer!
Track is where the Olympics gets really exciting. Speed, adrenaline, exhilaration…all the drama of the sprints, middle and long distance races are going to have us on the edge of our seats come August.
Whilst these guys are world-class athletes, there’s nothing stopping you taking up running to keep fit. Investing in the right footwear is crucial for runners so why not choose these bona fide Olympic all-singing podium shoes? Yep, these adidas Boa Supernova Glide Trainers are actually going to be worn on the podium by the winning athletes when they receive their awards. Not too shabby.
If you’re training, another important piece of kit is a sports watch that will monitor your position, pace, distance and calorie burn-off. This Garmin Forerunner 110 Unisex GPS Watch will improve your performance by allowing you to make targets to smash.
Do not miss the men’s 100m final at 21.50 Sunday 5th August!
Field events are all about throwing and jumping, we think we’ve had plenty of practice in that. If you want to do it officially then do it in style with these Stella McCartney designs: adidas Stella Team GB Village Wear Tank Top and adidas Stella Team GB Village Wear Three-quarter Tights.
Women’s discus and triple jump events start 3rd August.
Everyone loves watching the Olympic swimming events but it can’t JUST be about muscular men in Speedos. Can it? If you like swimming and are willing to put in the work you can build strength, stamina and speed not to mention a beautifully toned physique. Don’t let a crappy cossie hold you back, invest in performance swimwear like this ARENA Ladies Powerskin ST Classic Suit.
Keep an eye out for the women’s duets kicking off the synchronised swimming events on 5th August.
You’ve got to have lightening fast reactions for Badminton so if you’re a bit mal-coordinated then perhaps this isn’t for you. Fitness is crucial if you’re going to keep up with a shuttlecock that can dart around at over 400km/h. Find an available friend and start practising with this Olympics 2012 Team GB 2 Player Badminton Set.
Cyclists have great legs and toned bottoms and for that reason alone it is worth considering taking up as a hobby. Wear cycling tights that offer warmth and stretch so you’re not restricted. We recommend Altura Ladies Synergy Cycling Tights with Altura Ladies Nevis Cycling Jacket for when it turns cold.
There are four cycling events in the Olympics; track, mountain bike, road and BMX. Look out for the action-packed women’s team sprint track cycling on 2nd August.
Ok, so volleyball might seem a bit cheerleader-esque but think about it, you get to be part of a team playing in the sun, on the beach, thumping a ball over a net as hard as you possibly can…what’s not to love? Plus, those girls are HOT.
Wear adidas Team GB Spectators Shorts with this Nike Pro Medium Support Bra and you’ll certainly look the part if nothing else. Find out more about volleyball by watching the women’s Olympic events starting 28th July.
Whatever the final Team GB medal count, the Olympics is massively inspiring. Be a winner and take part!
