Exclusive Strictly Come Dancing News

Get ready for sequins, spandex and a bit of Cha Cha Cha – Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly are back to host another series of Strictly Come Dancing. The first episode of series 10 starts Saturday and the celebrity line-up is better than ever. Bring on the tangos and the tantrums!

I had the opportunity to go to the official launch for the show at the BBC Television Centre in West London to get some exclusive news about this year’s contestants. Here’s a rundown on who’s in the nation’s favourite dance contest this year:

Colin Salmon

The 49-year-old actor has starred in a number of TV shows including Prime Suspect, Soldier, Soldier and Doctor Who. However, he is best known for his film roles in blockbuster Bond films Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day in which he played the character Charles Robinson.

Dani Harmer

Dani, 23, is best known for bringing the character Tracy Beaker to life on the big and small screen – a role which has won her a BAFTA nomination. She’s also appeared as an extra in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Denise Van Outen

Denise has done it all. From The Big Breakfast to Roxie Hart in Chicago to BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do. This mother of one is multi-talented and she’s a Sylvia Young stage school graduate so she’s used to getting on her dancing shoes.

Fern Britton

The 55-year-old is one of Britain’s favourite faces on TV, having worked on the likes of This Morning for 10 years, and Ready Steady Cook. No stranger to Strictly, Fern has some previous dancing experience, having competed the 2010 Christmas special of Strictly Come Dancing.

Johnny Ball

The veteran TV presenter is the father of former Strictly contestant Zoe Ball, so he’ll likely be getting a few pointers from her in preparation for his assault on the dance floor. He’s 77 but in incredible shape!

Jerry Hall

International supermodel Jerry has jetted the globe for her work, but she’s not just a pretty face  – she has also acted in Tim Burton’s Batman movie and on stage, including a West End production of The Graduate.

Kimberley Walsh

The Girls Aloud beauty will be hoping her time with the chart-topping band will help her with her moves on the dance floor. Sure to inject some glamour into this year’s series as she looks fantastic in most clothing, Kimberley is no stranger to being at the centre of attention and recently played Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical, taking over from Amanda Holden.

Lisa Riley

The 36-year-old found fame playing feisty barmaid Mandy Dingle in popular soap Emmerdale. She also took over from Jeremy Beadle as the presenter of You’ve Been Framed in 1997 until 2002 and has been in theatre ever since. She’s ready for a comeback.

Louis Smith

The 23-year-old Olympic gymnast will certainly have no problem with flexibility issues or the tough training schedule a show like Strictly demands, having won two medals at this year’s Games. However his skill in gymnastics is on the vault so can he move in time to music too?

Michael Vaughan

The 38-year-old retired cricketer has racked up 18 test centuries and championships at national and county level and will no doubt be hoping for as much success on the dance floor as he had on the pitch. Since retiring, he’s been penning a newspaper column but it’s time for him to get physical again.

Nicky Byrne

The Westlife star is used to global success, having sold over 45 million records worldwide and accumulated 14 number-one UK alongside his bandmates. But how will he do without them?

Richard Arnold

The showbiz king is more at home interviewing A-listers than dancing with them!

As well as acting as showbiz editor of Daybreak, Richard has also fronted shows including Soap Challenge, Loose Lips and The Planet’s Funniest Animals, as well as writing columns for Hello! magazine, Woman’s Own and regularly contributes articles to national newspapers.

Sid Owen

Sid played Eastenders’ Ricky Butcher for nearly 25 years until his exit in 2012, making him one of the most recognisable faces on TV.

He’s also appeared in a number of other television dramas, including prison drama Bad Girls. Go Rickeeeeee!

Victoria Pendleton

Olympic gold cyclist Victoria might have retired from the sport recently, but she’s determined to put those powerful legs and honed muscles to use on the Strictly dance floor, swapping her cycle shorts for pretty dresses. Her abs are just incredible.

Make a date with your sofa this Saturday night. Strictly is set to be sensational!
