These radios remind me of my childhood on an Aberdeenshire croft. We had one in the stedding (local term for a barn) and would listen to it during milking, lambing, as we mixed feed. In the worst of the winters a hush would fall as we listened to the weather forecast. In summer it would sit beside the teapot and cake when the neighbours came to help with haymaking. I remember listening to it as I opened my exam grades and got the results to go to univeristy and a different life. Sadly the farm was sold and the radio put in the ‘roup’ which is the aution of the contents. I would love to win a duck egg or green radio as those colours remind me of the croft.

Luckily, it was only a few months before I made some really good friends and stopped going home for lunch! However my love of radio hasn’t ever left me – I have it on alllllll the time. This may sound daft, but Radio listening is becoming a ceremony of relaxation, like the Japanese tea ceremony, being comfortable and at ease, then entering whatever world the radio is currently in.
The retro Radios from Roberts, fit that world, my favourite the Classic Red, I had an old Bush radio in the sixties which was red. The art form then was positioning it in the car to receive a signal, which worked about 50% of the time to the irritation of my parents.

Roberts Revivals make a stylish contribution to a room.Rrather than being something ugly but functional that you stick in a corner out eyes reach, a Roberts Revival DAB is proudly on display and the envy of visitors! I would love one so that I can give new memories to my sons: dancing together in the lounge, baking cakes, playing in the garden – all with the radio on giving us a new soundtrack to remember things by.

Posted by Joanna S on

Love these! Most radios/techy stuff is pretty uninspiring to look & although needed, they often stick out for the wrong reasons & become a bit of an eyesore in a room, especially if the decor/furnishings have a soft feminine edge. Robert’s have nailed it with these babies! They’re not simply a fully up to date DAB radio but thought has been applied to make them a little piece of clssic decorative art that you’d want to show off & that fits in to pretty much any room setting. Loving all 3 pastel colours, but I’d be quackers not to choose the Duck Egg :D

Posted by Anne Balfour on

My pale blue fifties ‘boudoir’ would look absolutely fabulous with the duck egg blue radio sat proudly on the dressing table. That classic style of radio takes me back to my school holidays at my grandparents house. I had to sleep in my uncles old bedroom which was full of things from his youth in the 1950/60′s including his green transistor radio. He also had a potty under his bed but hopefully that’s one object that won’t be having a revival!

Anyways I have always had a thing for the 50s even though I am a 90s baby … And in dier need for a new DAB radio (preferably the red/pinkish one if I had to chose ) I was eyeing them up in store and would have to save a few pennies before being able to afford to buy one myself … I love listing to the radio morning, noon and night doing my housework, hair , makeup and chilling in my bubbly bath :) I mean if I were to be blunt about it I recon every female should have a radio in the house … It should be essential especially with our busy schedules … And you have a station for every mood…. The feel sorry for yourself .. Classic radio, the I am in a bad mood and need to let of steam… Rock station or kerrang ha !!! Etc … So yeah I hope I win :)

The radio represents for me, a time when the world came together, be it to listen to their favourite show after dinner, or hearing Churchill announce war in 1939, it represents unity and a time where technology advanced but not to the point where you only talk to your family on Facebook. And Duck Egg Blue is my favourite :) Thank you! x

Oh how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…
For you are always there to brighten up my days
From earnest political discussions first thing on Radio 4
To wildly dancing to Heart as I mop the kitchen floor.
You fill my days with laughter, especially Radio 2,
And always help me find there’s time for coffee, too.
I’ve dabbled with the TV
And even tried to see
If monastic silence could be the way for me
But no, it always seems that I am at my best
With voices from the radio perched on the kitchen chest!

What a classic! Like strawberries and cream, Wimbledon, the queen,…mobile phones! Some things seem to have been around for ever but never go out of fashion! Just like these radios! Yeh, so they’ve had some modernisation but who hasn’t!-it’s called anti ageing! We’re all guilty! A true classic, something we all aspire to be! Loving the cream colour-always classy! X

Posted by Sarah Banks on

I have been a lover of vintage fashion for what seems like my whole life! I studied Fine art throughout my education and have always been inspired by the 50′s in particular.
Back when I found my love for the 50s there was very little on the market for a woman of my unique taste (short of trekking into Camden Market at any given opportunity), so I would save to try and snap up little beauties like this!

I have had my heart set on a Roberts Revivals DAB radio for so long now and can’t beleive my luck that I (may) have a chance to win!!

Now… only question is, do I go for the Duck Egg blue to go with my living room Décor… Or do I set my heart on the Classic Red to match my hair (almost exactly)…hmmm… has to be Classic Red now doesn’t it? Although to be honest, they are all gorgeous colours.

I would the duck egg or leaf green 1 as the theme in my kitchen is shabby chic ( polka dots, floral patterns, pastel colours, hearts, cupcakes etc) so i think this radio would give it a genuine vintage feel. I used to have a navy 1 when i was about 11, i used to take it everywhere with me. Im not sure what happened to it but i would love another 1 especially 1 of these 1s as it would look perfect in my kitchen!! xxx

While I’m giving it a good clean and clear out and I can listen to something upbeat and energising without pesky earphones falling out of my ears everytime I move and then when I’m planting my bulbs and seeds I can listen to something soothing and hopefully my plants will respond and grow big and strong after being nutured and spoiled. Plus it would look really bright and funky – while i’m looking mucky and tired!

Posted by Delia Allen on

Back in the early 70s as a teenager I had a Saturday job in an electrical shop. We sold all of the good makes of TVs, stereos and radios. It was there that I fell in love with the Roberts Radios. They were the ‘bee’s knees’. Their stylish looks and beautiful tone sold them to me as it did to the customers I served. I always wanted to own one, but then I could not afford to buy one and in the years following could not justify the expense. I would dearly love to win one. Any colour would be lovely, but the blue or cream would fit so well into our house. Thank you.

Growing up my grandparents always had Roberts radio’s throughout their house, they refused to have anything else.
Even when the radio stations weren’t tuned properly and the paint had all chipped, they still carried an undeniable quirky, retro style.
The sound and look of a Roberts radio is synonymous with childhood for me and I would love the chance to have my very own one.

I remember putting the new radio station name labels over the old “Light” and “Home” on my Granny’s brown Roberts radio for her and listening to The Move’s “I Can Hear the Grass Grow” on Sunday afternoon’s “Pick of the Pop’s” with her. She always found nice things to say about Fluff’s ‘Picks’, even though she preferred classical music. I love anything retro and these radios certainly are that in appearance. It has a lot of charm and although I don’t own one myself, my neighbour does and close up you can see the quality. She can even plug her ipod into it which is a great asset for me. The whole feel of the radio takes you back decades and is a great step back from todays more modern uglier radios. Red is the colour for me please if i’m lucky enough to win :)

I love all things from the 50s era although I cant actually remember the 50s but have clear vivid memories of the 60s. I can remember the large square televisions, the huge radios and can even remember our first family transistor radio. Technology has improved vastly since then but the styles have not always been an improvement, which is the reason that I love the retro style of the Roberts Dab radios, the vibrant colours and the fact they are sturdy and portable is a great advantage, easy to use in any room. I would love to have a red radio if I should be fortunate enough to be selected. Many thanks for this opportunity it is truly a fabulous prize.
