October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the celebrities are all totally behind it with lots attending a big gala fashion show and dinner in London’s five star Grosvenor House Hotel. Survivors of breast cancer got pampered and strutted down the catwalk, Joe McElderry did some singing, Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman hosted the evening, socialite Tamara Ecclestone did some bidding in the auction and the star of the night was ex Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
Lifted high by a gaggle of gorgeous guys, Geri proved she still had it. It’s been seven years since she last performed solo but if anything she is even better than the last time I saw her. She performed an acoustic version of Wannabe on her own, which was just spectacular. Wannabe is good on any day but to have her sing it alone and take control of the room really fuelled the Girl Power spirit of the Breast Cancer Care show. Her daughter Bluebell was in the audience and could be seen clapping and cheering as her mother looked amazing in a silver party dress.
One piece of exclusive gossip is I discovered she is having training with vocal coaches David and Carrie Grant. If she’s put that much effort into it, there’s a good chance there may be more to come from her on the solo front. Another woman to watch out for is Tamara Ecclestone, who previously had a show called Billion Dollar Girl on Channel 5. She told me she’s in talks to appear on an ITV2 show. Watch out for more of her!
It was easy to spot Edith Bowman, looking stunning in a multi-colour maxi dress. She had a son recently and revealed to me she wants a lot more children. It’s great to see her looking so settled.
The final result is the evening raised more than £100,000 for Breast Cancer Care. Let’s hope this sets the standard for October and we all raise even more!
