The sofa we have in our back room which is used as an extra TV room over Xmas is over 40 years old, it has been re-covered twice. It would be lovely to have a comfy sofa for Xmas.

My present settee is 17 years old (proveable), the throws are just taking the place of the covers, underneath the fabric is almost completely gone and the upholstery is coming out en masse! I have attempted to staple the stuffing back in but it is like trying to ‘paint the Forth Bridge’. It is a major problem for me as I could never afford to replace it.

I”m not sure if my d.i.y. wooden support underneath was such a good idea, but without it you’d sort of sink down inside the sofa and disappear, making it hard to follow what’s happening on tv. As a family of 5, we are very busy through out the week with school and work, so we dont really get a chance to spend quality time together. However, as a side story to actually liking the sofa (which is rare for me!) Our rabbit has recently been banished from the lounge (I keep asking my self who thought you could house train a rabbit!) for doing what rabbits do. Unfortunately he has left behind what was a really quite comfortable old sofa well chewed, and to put not put too finer point on it smelly. This combined with rabbit ‘maltesers’ in cracks you can’t reach means it is on its way to the tip at the weekend………….

I’m a big fan of TV’s ‘Mad Men’ and this reminds me of the classic style of the furniture around in those days. I would like the sofa because we don’t have one that is any good at the moment. We have two chairs without cushions which are very uncomfortable and do your back in. The one we do have is cane, it wobbles when you sit on it because one of the legs have broken and you go through a hole in the webbing as this doesn’t have cushions either.

My sofa came with the flat but belongs in a skip. Bad enough that it was ‘born’ ugly, it has also acquired, over its many years, a faded, balding, saggy appearance and emits the kind of aroma that hints, unpleasantly, at the unsavoury habits of countless previous tenants. Throws do little other than to exaggerate it’s ungainly appearance and to absorb the indescribable whiff that several cleaning attempts have failed to diminish. My only reason for sitting on it (preferably wearing a nose-clip)is so that I don’t have to look at it…

So, anyway…. in the event of my not being the lucky, lucky winner, could I possibly ask a small favour? Could you ask the winner what they plan to do with their old sofa? It could only be an improvement on mine!

Our current sofa is 25 years old (so not as old as some on here) but it is propped up with pillows, padded with foam under the seats and a book wedged where the leg is missing!

My big old dog Rudey has a bad leg and keeps licking it, so he’s now got a big cone on his head and instead of learning to manoeuvre the cone around the house, he’s taken to charging at things … so last Sunday he charged at the living room door and when it didn’t swing open he kept pushing until he ripped it off it’s hinges and it fell down and en route ripped a big hole in the side of the sofa! Since having my daughter, there are now five of us in the house and now she’s getting bigger and wants to sit with us on the sofa – but there isn’t enough room for all of us! We’re using a beanbag as a spare seat just now but another sofa is badly needed for us all to be comfy.
