As we got into Week 7 and the Guilty Pleasures week on X Factor, the standards were high. The only act to come under any criticism was Rylan Clark and that was from Gary Barlow who has never taken to the Essex performer since Day 1. So it was a massive surprise that Rylan sailed straight through to next week while Ella Henderson and James Arthur were in the bottom two and the gorgeous Ella ended up getting voted out. I bet Gary was fuming!
Here’s a recap of the highs and lows of this week’s show with some added exclusive gossip. James Arthur is definitely one to watch…
Despite ending up at the bottom this week, James is the most popular among the celebrity guests with everyone from Rita Ora to Robbie Williams saying they wanted him to win but James wants to win another type of prize – the heart of Xtra Factor host Caroline Flack. According to backstage sources, James has been spending a lot of time one on one with Caroline during rehearsals. And Caroline’s clearly got a thing for singers given her antics last year with Harry Styles. James is on a winning streak at the moment as in an unusual move by an X Factor judge, Gary Barlow, who mentors Christopher Maloney told Scherzinger’s act James Arthur that he was rooting for him to win. ‘Putting my category aside – I probably shouldn’t say this – I want you to win this competition.’
Ella Henderson stole the show looking like a Goddess in a gold dress with a slowed down version of Grease classic You’re The One That I Want. So it was a massive surprise for everyone when she ended up leaving the show this week. On Saturday night, Gary Barlow told the 16-year-old singer that she had just put on her ‘best performance to date by far’, while Louis Walsh exclaimed she was ‘electric, adding: ‘You are going to sell millions and millions of records Ella.’ And it’s not just the judges who are fans as I can exclusively reveal Ella is opening up about her close relationship with Union J’s George Shelley. They’ve been photographed holding hands outside their hotel and they’re spending pretty much all their free time together. I hope it lasts now she’s out!
Former Asda worker Jahmene Douglas assured his place in the next stage of the show with his rendition of the Harold Melvin track Don’t Leave Me This Way. One surprising thing about Jahmene is the longer he is in the show, the more fan mail he receives and he is almost on a par with Union J right now. That should improve his self-confidence. And its not just letters as Jahmene was besieged by fans and their mums when the contestants all performed at Disneyland in Paris for the theme park’s 20th anniversary. While Rylan and James Arthur were free to enjoy the rides, Union J and Jahmene were constantly being asked for photographs and autographs. Jahmene has a massive fan base among the public so he’s a real rival for the other male favourite James Arthur.
REMAINING CONTESTANTS: Christopher Maloney, Union J, Rylan Clark, Jahmene Douglas and James Arthur are through to week 8.
