X Factor Week Five: Number Ones

We’re well into the X Factor Live Shows and as there are now just 7 acts remaining, the competition is hotting up. The pressure is causing some like Jahmene Douglas to step up their game and deliver their best performance yet but others are suffering. One of the contestants who was unable to deal with it full stop was  Lucy Spraggan, who quit the show this week saying illness made her unable to perform. Rylan gave her a shout out during his song but aside from this it was business as usual and Kye Sones from the over 28s category was also voted out.

The judges don’t agree on much these days but they did all agree that Jahmene Douglas’s rendition of Beyonce’s Listen was THE performance of the night. It made his mentor Nicole Scherzinger cry and the notoriously hard to please Tulisa declared herself speechless. He’s so popular with the viewers people are referring to his performance as Jah-mazing!!

Here’s some exclusive backstage news about some of the acts we’re all talking about this week.

Ella Henderson

The teenager may have had a bad week at Halloween but the beauty of X Factor is you’re always judged on the most recent performance and Ella blew everyone away with her take on Katy Perry’s Firework while keeping her outfit simple with a black top and statement skirt. This was the result of hours of practice and now Ella has her mentor Tulisa completely to herself she is making the most of the attention. Tulisa visited Ella at the hotel to give her some one on one time, much to the envy of the other acts who have to compete for time with their mentor. Ella’s not letting the pressure get to her though – she’s very mature for a 16-year-old!

 James Arthur

James is one of the favourites to win the show and he didn’t disappoint this week as he sang No Doubt’s Don’t Speak and broke out into a rap half-way through. Guest performer Rita Ora said he was her favourite much to his obvious delight. Backstage he was asking everyone if she was single, only to find out she was in a long term relationship with Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian’s brother Rob. Well, at least he tried…

Union J

The boyband clearly learned from the week before when they were in the bottom two as this week they ‘owned the stage’ and ‘nailed it’ as Tulisa said. George Shelley (Ella Henderson’s fave) played the guitar as they sang Taylor Swift’s Love Story. They were straight through to the next round and after the show Louis came to their dressing room to congratulate them before going to see his other act District 3.  Could they be the next One Direction? Louis Walsh certainly seems to think so.

REMAINING CONTESTANTS: Rylan Clark, Union J, District 3, Ella Henderson, Christopher Maloney, James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas are all through to week 6 – Ballads Week!

I wonder who will go next?
