Celebrity Knitwear Style In 2014

I hope we’re all making the most of the Christmas jumper this week because we’re not going to be able to wear it for much longer. The sight of a Christmas snowman or a larger than life Santa Claus on a jumper in January is a fashion crime worse than eating leftover turkey curry or cold brussel sprouts. You just can’t wear a Christmas jumper after December, can you?

Have you thought about how you’re going to keep warm in 2014? If there’s one group of people who we can rely on to wear the trends it’s celebrities (more often than not dressed by super capable stylists) and so I’ve had a look at what knitwear they’ve been sporting. Here are the top three ways the celebs have been keeping warm and stylish recently…

Waterfall Cardigan

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Kim Kardashian are big fans of the waterfall cardigan. This never goes out of fashion – it’s a knitwear classic – mainly because you can wear it with anything. We can get the look with a South lightweight waterfall cardigan from Very.

White Jumper

Pop princesses Una Healy from The Saturdays and Ellie Goulding both make a white jumper look cute and cosy. I love the Love Label eyelash yarn jumper from Very as a way of working this trend and brightening up Winter.

Textured Pink Jumper

Kimberly Walsh and Eva Longoria are very much girly girls and that does not have to change despite having to layer up in Winter. Not only are their jumpers a gorgeous shade of pink, but they have an interesting pattern so they’re doubly attention-grabbing. If you liked the attention you got from wearing a Christmas jumper, maybe it’s time to look at something pink for 2014 like the South value cable knit jumper

I know it’s painful to wave goodbye to the Christmas jumper but it helps me to see there are ways we can look even better in 2014. Which one’s your favourite?

Celebrity Style Steal: Ashley Roberts Works Denim And Leather

Former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts has come a long way since participating in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here the year before last. She’s got a regular slot presenting on daytime TV’s most watched show This Morning, and a seriously cute dog! As she left the ITV studios after a day at work, carrying her pampered pooch she looked simply stunning in a leather skater skirt. Who says you have to wear trousers when it’s cold outside?

I really like Ashley’s look as it shows a knee length skirt with black opaque tights is an appropriate option for Winter. Skater skirts are as fashionable as ever and for a leather-look one like Ashley’s, I’ve seen that the South PU skater skirt from Very is a good match. There’s a lot of choice in terms of thickness of tights – you could go up to a seriously black 100 denier pair – but if you want to show a hint of leg like Ashley did, try 50 denier. Winter weather makes it harder to wear heels but it doesn’t mean you have to dress down. I think the Clark’s Hamble Park4 leather brogues look just as nice as heels! The finishing tough is a classic denim shirt – try the  South embroidered denim shirt. I never fully realised how well leather and denim went together, as usually I’m all about a checked shirt with my leather items, but I will be trying denim more often now.

Sadly the dog is not available at Very…but at least you won’t have to share the spotlight with something that looks as cute as you do!

Illamasqua Title

Top 5 Illamasqua Gifts!

Illamasqua is one of my favourite beauty brands, as I find the quality of the products to be very high and I love the multi-use aspects of the products. My two favourite Illamasqua products include the Cream Pigment in the shade Hollow and the Light Liquid Foundation. This post is all about lavish Illamasqua christmas gift ideas.

1. Illamasqua Lipstick Set (£85): This extravagant set contains six highly pigmented Illamasqua lipsticks in a range of gorgeous shades, from pretty pinks to a bright purple! Illamasqua lipsticks are individually priced at £17 each so this set is better value. The set is beautifully packaged, as all Illamasqua products are – it would make a prefect present for beauty lovers and bloggers!

2. Illamasqua Freak Scarab Fragrance (£85, 7ml EDP): I have tried the original Freak fragrance from Illamasqua and I love it! This is the newer version, it is based around notes of Blood orange, Jasmine, Geranium and Leather among other notes. The bottle is very unique, it makes a refreshing change to the generic fragrances on the market.

3. Illamasqua Freak Coffret (£47): Another great value gift set, the contents total £61.50, so it is a fantastic set for the price. The set contains the 30ml Freak EDP, a nail polish and a medium pencil, which is great if you are unsure what to buy someone as it contains a bit of everything.

4. Illamasqua Specked Nail Polish Duo (£12):  A more affordable set now, it is a cute nail polish duo that would be a great present for friends or colleagues. Nail art can be quite difficult but effect polishes make your nails look like your have spent time getting them perfect when you haven’t! I love the blue and pink shades, great all year round.

5. Finally a range of products that are currently awaiting stock but I needed to put them in this post as all three have been on my personal beauty wish list for a while! The Illamasqua Hydraveil is a hydrating primer to go underneath makeup, the Complement Palette is probably one of the most beautiful palettes I have seen in a while and lastly the Highlighter in Gleam, this is a blogger favourite and I need it!

Check out Heather’s blog, ofbeautyandnothingness.blogspot.co.uk for more beauty & fashion tips.

Nails inc

Top 5 Nails Inc Christmas Gifts!

Nails Inc is one of my favourite nail polish brands, I have been using their polishes for years. They have gorgeous plain polishes as well as a vast range of effect polishes and sets. My favourite shade from Nails Inc is Porchester Square which is one of their hero shades. Here are my picks from the gorgeous Nails Inc collection at Very.

1. Bling it on denim and studs set (£19): Nails Inc are renowned for their high quality fail safe polishes but also for the unique nail art and nail effect sets. This set contains a denim effect polish and cute studded silver and gold stars, very all American girl! I think this would be a great set for those who have everything or nail art lovers!

2. Monogram Nail set (£20): I personally think this set is great value, you get two polishes, a top coat and the letter/symbols to top the nails with. Monogram/text nails are very popular right now as they have been seen on numerous celebrities such as Miley Cyrus (this Nails Inc kit was the one used on her apparently!).

3. Bling it on leather and studs (£15, sale): Another great little nail art gift set from Nails Inc, this set contains a tan nail polish that has a leather effect. There are also cute skull and crossbones to top an accent nail. Again great for nail art, Nails Inc and beauty lovers – a very unique gift.

4. Poster Paint Bright Trio (£12, sale – RRP £32): Such a great value set of nail polishes and what is better than a Nails Inc gift…a gift that alleviates the dull, cold wintery days and replaces them with bright polishes! I think this set is so cute, great value for money and a very welcome gift at this time of the year.

5. Galaxy Polish, shade Trafalger Square (£12): This is the final gift and it is my favourite. This polish is part of the Galaxy range in which the polish contains fine iridescent pearl and crushed foil effect particles to give a gorgeous festive sparkle to any outfit! Love it!

Black And White Christmas At Love Magazine Party

Florence Welch from Florence and The Machine and British model Daisy Lowe got down and dirty in Camden for the Love Magazine Christmas party – they really went for it! Love magazine is edited by Katie Grand, one of the best friends of Kate Moss, and while Mossy was otherwise engaged getting ready for her 40th birthday celebrations next month, Daisy and Florence made sure the party was suitably wild. It was held at a pub, but this was no usual pub dress code. Daisy Lowe looked like she was dressed for the ballet in a white prom dress, while Florence was dressed for the stage in black lace.

Florence was very much the centre of attention as she’s literally just stepped off the plane from America. She’s been working in New York on her next album with some US hip hop acts like ASAP Rocky and she wants to work with Kanye West. Florence has an electro sound so I’m intrigued to find out what electro hip hop sounds like. If it sounds almost as fab as she looked then I hope she hurries up and releases it soon. The lace look is very popular right now, and I had a look for some similar items at Very. Check out (from left to right) the Coast Lani May maxi dress and the Amy Childs Georgia 3/4 sleeve lace midi dress and the Club L lace sleeve pencil dress.

Meanwhile, Daisy Lowe is still modelling and doing some fitness modelling. This means she’s been hitting the gym in preparations for photoshoots for sportswear brands. She is looking good on it, isn’t she? She’s also clearly confident as a white dress screams Look at Me! Daisy wears it like she’s the fairy on top of the Christmas tree…

So it’s not long til Christmas now…are you ready?

Celebrity Style Steal: Get Fearne Cotton’s Actual Coat

The weather may me miserable but Very’s stylish designer Fearne Cotton shows that you don’t need to let it beat you. You can fight through the puddles in style if you have the right coat. Fearnes’s actually wearing one from her own range – the Fearne Cotton lace collar trench coat. I love a good trench coat and what’s extra cool about this one is the colour. If you’ve got a black coat and a brown coat already, then it’s kind of nice to go for olive green. I can also tell you that green suits brunettes (like me) and blondes (as you can see by how Fearne’s wearing it).

At Very, there are quite a few other green coats and jackets, varying from trench coats to parkas to waxed jackets.

And if you want to copy Fearne’s wet weather outfit completely (I do), start with Love Label PU panel skinny jeans . Then you need a good pair of flats like the Clarks Hamble Park4 Leather Brogues. To keep all your bits dry effortlessly try the Clarks tassel detail shoulder bags. The finishing touch is some Rayban wayfarer sunglasses – I guess they keep your eyes dry! What do you think?

Marc---The-Very-Man-Cave

Everything you need to know to create the perfect bachelor pad for the man in your life!

Ok, you’ve finally splashed out on that brand spanky new PlayStation 4 and got some great games to go with it, but now you’ve realised the best way of playing it is with an awesome new ‘Entertainment Room’ (really a Man Cave, but Mrs very_marc seems more accepting when I call it that).

This is basically going to be my perfect room, even down to the wallpaper! So, let’s start there. I’m thinking the wall behind the TV needs to be a dark colour, and this Superfresco Easy Elements Calico wallpaper in Charcoal is a particular favourite of mine. Admittedly it’s a little plain, but all my attention will be centred to this lovely new Samsung 46 UE46F6500 Inch Full HD Freeview HD LED 3D Smart TV.

Samsung TV
Samsung UE46F6500

The other walls would have a nice, classy pattern, like this Superfresco Easy Elements Nottingham wallpaper in black/silver (also available in white). We’re going to go with a plain one today, so that I can have some wall art to break the other walls up a bit. I’m still trying to so with the ‘entertainment room’ theme, remember, so nothing too out there. I quite like this Graham & Brown New York City Canvas for the back wall.

Next, we’re going to go for a little furniture; I love this Carolina Left Hand Double Arm Corner Group in charcoal. It would be ridiculously comfy when you just want to kick back with some popcorn and watch a blu-ray or two. I’d even be tempted to get this Swan AC230 Popcorn Maker just for kicks! Add a rug like this Wave Washable Rug and I’m thinking this room is starting to look both classy and cosy.

Carolina Left Hand Double Arm Corner Group

Now, the TV isn’t just going to float in mid-air, and I’m not exactly the go-to guy when it comes to DIY, so I’ll need a TV stand. I really like the look of this Home Collection Eclipse 50 Inch Flatscreen TV Display Unit. The doors mean you can hook up your freeview box, Xbox One, PS4, and anything else you can think of, and it will still look neat and hidden away. The beam-through technology means that you can still use all your remotes for anything you have under the TV too.

I’m getting to the REALLY fun stuff now. I’ve already got the PS4 as mentioned, and will eventually be adding the Xbox One too, I’ve got a freeview box in there too, so everything is looking pretty good, but what about SOUNDING pretty good? If I’m doing this room, I’m going to do it right, so I need a good sound system. Sound Bars are becoming quite popular and I think this Panasonic HTE80 Soundboard will fit right in with the TV, so I’ll be able to hear any aliens trying to flank me when playing Killzone: Shadow Fall, and I wont have to struggle to hear anything when I want to watch the Avengers save the world!

Akai A58002 Bluetooth Tower Speaker

Now obviously it’s not all about the viewing experience, I’ve got a fair bit of music on my phone so this Akai A58002 Bluetooth Tower Speaker in Black (also available in white) is a must. It’s got both an iPod/iPad connection, and an aux in/out connection too, so even if you don’t have Bluetooth you’ll be able to use it!

Now, to me, this room is pretty much perfect, so might become my pet project over the next few months. What do you think? Should I detail my progress as it goes on? Is there anything else you’d add or take away in here? Just let me know with any comments or questions!

Bye For Now,

Marc

hitchcock[5]

FASHION ICON: THE HITCHCOCK HEROINE

This season, we’re going psycho for Hitchcock-inspired fashion! Think Tippi Hedren and Grace Kelly, think old school glamour ‘n’ a flick of winged eyeliner and you’re already 39 steps towards becoming style’s leading lady.

Perhaps one of Hollywood’s most iconic (and often controversial!) directors, it’s no surprise that Hitch’s much talked about femmes are still making their mark on the trends du jour. It was good old Alf’s determined obsession to portray his own image of feminine beauty that had each of his gals leaving everyone spellbound. Cinched-in waistlines, coiffed ‘dos and killer shoes rolled, the credits followed and so did the world of fashion.

Referenced all over the catwalks, a standout collection emerged from Alexander McQueen back in 2005 that was packed with skirt suits, tailored tweed and soft knit sweaters – stylishly finished with little leather gloves and blowout hair, of course! More recently, this year’s autumn/winter model strut sessions saw sartorial tributes aplenty with subtle nods from Badgley Mischka and a more obvious homage from The Blonds in NYC (how cool is the Janet Leigh Psycho dress below?!).

The good news is you don’t have to be overtly literal OR get chased by birds to look Hitchcock hot! Just bag yourselves these key essentials that’ll take you right through the seasons…

Shop the essentials: Coat – Glamorous Faux Fur Oversized Coat, Dress – Fearne Cotton Midi Lace Dress, Tote – Modalu Sedgewick Bag, Shoes – Ted Baker Satin Jewelled Court, Lingerie – Intimates Strapless Control Slip.

DIAL ‘M’ FOR MAKE-UP

The saying “gentlemen prefer blondes” definitely rang true when it came to Hitch, but whatever your hair hue you can reference the trend with retro ponies, sculpted silhouettes and a good bit of backcombing! Replicate that on-screen sexuality and get the siren look in three with iconic eyes, matte skin and blood-red lips. You don’t have to go all-out vintage either, thick Cara D shaped brows will add a current, contemporary twist.

Feeling inspired? Swat up with Alfred Hitchcock’s Essential Collection on DVD (it’ll make a great stocking thriller, too!)

Glamorous Pics From The Sports Personality Of The Year Awards

Sports people rarely have the opportunity to wear something glam so when they get the chance they totally make the most of it! It was the Sports Personality of the Year awards in Leeds at the weekend – the Oscars of the sports world – and the suits were slick and the dresses figure-hugging and fabulous.

The overall award went to Andy Murray (voted by the public), while retired Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson won a lifetime achievement award. However, when it comes to fashion this is who looked truly glam:

Rebecca Adlington

It seems like life in the I’m A Celebrity Jungle has worked wonders for the Olympic medal winning swimmer, who looked slim and tanned. A green dress is a great colour when you have a bit of a tan and it’s way more exciting to wear than black.

Jessica Ennis-Hill

Jessica Ennis-Hill has fought an achilles tendon injury this year, but it must be better given that she’s wearing high heels. The bodycon dress is so flattering on her, isn’t it?

Ben Ainslie and Georgie Thompson

Legendary sailing champion Ben Ainslie and Sky Sports presenter Georgie Thompson make a gorgeous couple, don’t they? Georgie’s white dress looks really festive! Before meeting Ben, she dated Declan Donnelly (from Ant and Dec). I think Ben’s a lot more handsome, so she’s done well. Ben looks delicious in a suit.

Christine Ohuruogu

Christine is the world’s best 400m runner and she’s also one of the smiliest people in sport. With that smile she could wear anything but the black maxi dress is nice and feminine. Normally we only see her in lycra – this is a big improvement!

Bradley Wiggins

Bradley won the Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2012 and it looks like he still has a big personality in terms of his dress sense. When you have to compete against Ben Ainslie who looks divine in a black suit, going for a pinstripe suit is a good option. Well done, Wiggo!

Who do you think looked the best?

Walk With Style – Boots For Every Occasion

Hello there you lovely Very lot! My name is Kirstie and I am the writer and owner of A Yellow Brick Blog – a beauty, fashion and well… more or less anything blog!

As we are full-on into winter now (yay, my favourite season!) I am here today to talk about a certain type a footwear we love, the type that Winter is all about – Womens Boots!

I am such a fan of boots and my collection is constantly growing with different styles, colours and trends!

Whoever you are and whatever you are doing – whether you’re walking the dog, popping out for a bit of dinner or out on a glamorous night out with the girls there is always a perfect pair of boots for every occasion!

With this in mind I thought I would give you a few of my top picks from Very this season.

First on the list – comfortable casual boots. You’ve got to be winter ready, it is chilly out there and whether you’re walking the dog, playing out in the snow (praying for a white Christmas here!), or even just popping to the shops – what you want is to be comfortable and most importantly be protected from that winter chill! These are some great choices for a cosy, well-fitted winter boot! They are bound to keep your feet warm and snugly and well… wellies are always a must!

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Dainty Suede Boots | Ugg Australia Bailey Button Charm Boots – Harissa | Hunter Back Adjustable Gloss Welly

Next up some of my fashion favourites for all you gorgeous fashionista’s out there!

Ankle boots have been a staple favourite for most of us now for years and each year there are more and more fab styles to choose from! They look great with more or less any outfit, a cute dress, jeans and a t-shirt or just leggings with a jumper, ankle boots can complete an outfit and I love the wide range that Very has to drool over!

As well as ankle boots, this year knee-high boots have made a firm come back onto the fashion scene. I love knee high boots, they look fashionable, yet formal and sophisticated at the same time. Paired with a gorgeous coat and high-waisted jeans, the riding boot trend has to be my favourite of this season.

Fearne Cotton Mara Suede Buckle Boots | KG Stirrup Monochrome Ankle Boots | Shoe Box Terry Standard Fit Elastic Riding Boot | Ravel Two Tone Knee High Boots

Finally those glamorous boots for those glamorous night’s out. This time of year everyone’s calendars and dairies are full of parties, meals and an array of other social occasions which get us all dressing at our best and looking fabulous!

Shoe boots are personally one of my favourite type of shoes. Not only do they look great and help perfect an outfit but I find them so much more comfortable and easier to walk in then just your regular heeled shoes – which is what you want if you are going to be dancing all night! Below I’ve pictured just a few of my top picks from Very’s gorgeous selection.

Love Label Regan Cut Out Buckle Platform Shoe Boots | Love Label Hicks Stud Detail Platform Ankle Boots |Myleene Klass Mary Platform Shoe Boots with Metallic Heel

Well I hope you and your feet are now ready for this festive season, boots are so versatile and there is always a pair to match your occasion!
