So – the first thing to do when selecting your sunglasses is to get a real good understanding of your face shape. So, take a good long look in the mirror and fathom out what shape you can see. If it’s proving tricky, try taking a piccie of your pretty self and hold it up against the face shape guide below and read on to find the perfect sunglasses shape for you.
Find Your Face shape
The most balanced shape of all. You’ll have high cheekbones and a narrow forehead. If you have an oval shaped face (lucky you!) you can get away with most shapes and sizes which means you can play about a little more with the latest looks. Think Rihanna, Megan Fox and Beyoncé for sunglasses inspo – all oval shaped beauties showing us how it’s done.
With full cheeks and a rounded chin, you’ll want your sunnies to add some definition to those lovely chops of yours. Steer clear of round frames, which will add extra roundness to your face and go for rectangular square frames that sit slightly wider than the broadest part of your face, giving a super slimming effect to your cheeks. Kate Bosworth, Drew Barrymore and Mila Kunis all show us how to make sunglasses work for round faces.
A square face has a beautifully strong jaw line with wide cheekbones and a broad forehead. Oval shapes will work gorgeously on you, creating balance and softening the strong lines you have that give us all face shape envy! Tinted lenses will add to the softer feel created by the curved lines of aviators and oval shapes. Celeb square shapes include Keira Knightly, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson.
A typical triangular face has a broad forehead with the width of the face tapering down to a narrow, rounded and uber cute chin. Look for oval cat-eye frames. These will help lift the face, creating instant cheekbones. Celebrity triangle shaped faces include Victoria Beckham, and Reese Witherspoon, both beauties that make sunglasses wearing look super chic and easy.
Oblong faces are long and narrow, with straight cheek lines. Go for frames that cover the centre of your face, round frames will help to create some shape and also break up the length. Angular shapes are a bit of a no-go (sorry girls!) they’ll add length to your face, so get smart with your sunnies and opt for round or square shapes to complement that gorgeous bone structure you have going on. Look to Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston for the ultimate sunglasses style steals.
