Mollie King Style Steal

Celebrity Style Steal: Girly Glamour For The Saturdays’ Mollie

The Saturdays celebrate their fifth year as a band this summer and it seems these girls get better with age. Especially Mollie King, who has really found her own cute but classy individual style. It’s so much better than when they started with them all dressing in matching outfits (cringe!) Now Rochelle’s the girly one, Vanessa’s the cool one, Una is the sophisticated mummy one and Frankie’s a bit of a tomboy. But it’s Mollie I like the best and Mollie who is having the most fun right now, even learning to DJ so that she can do solo performances while the rest of the girls are at home with their boyfriends or babies.

What I like most about this summer outfit, which she wore to DJ one night, is that it’s day to night. You could wear it to a weekend lunch and if you decided you wanted to continue the party into the evening then spritz up your hair and make-up and put those high heels to good use dancing. To copy it, I think we should start with the cute shorts. Mollie’s are really similar to a pair at Very – the Love Label lace shorts  – and they go perfectly with a crisp white top. Now shoes! Check out the stunning Guess Glensia Sling Back Peep Toe Shoes from Very. And then it’s all about the accessories like a Lipsy pannelled wing tote bag. Finish the look with a Fiorelli blue glass pendant with crystal detail necklace and you’re good to make the most of your Saturday day and night…and Sunday morning too if you’re feeling brave enough!

EXCLUSIVE: Bright Gossip From A Star-Studded BMW Party

Sienna Miller was full of the joys of summer as she hosted a super glam BMW party in London. The actress, who is mother of a one-year-old, looked pretty, feminine and really relaxed as she worked the crowded room in London’s covered Old Billingsgate Market venue in a gorgeous summer dress. Part of that may be for the fact she was on a rare night out but a some of that must be down to the coloured print on her dress – it makes her look bright and radiant!

So now we’ve seen her at a party, can we expect to see her on the big screen soon? Sienna revealed to me that she’s already filmed Foxcatcher, which tells the story of an Olympic Wrestling champion John Schultz, played by Channing Tatum. Other stars in the movie include Vanessa Redgrave, Steve Carrell and Mark Ruffalo – it’s always a good sign when there’s a lot of celebs in the cast, I think.

Back to the party, it wasn’t just Sienna who looked bright. I love Made in Chelsea star Ashley James’ outfit:

A white skirt is essential for summer. In Chelsea, the uniform seems to be white jeans for Autumn/Winter and white skirt for Spring/Summer but it suits them. And white is so flattering in summer because it makes you look more tanned, whether you are or not.

And finally, I couldn’t help but notice MTV Presenter Laura Whitmore in her bright yellow dress and black high heels. Wow!

She’s also been getting some offers from Hollywood (and I’m not surprised when she looks like that). She’s had a part in the Noel Clarke film Storage 24 and is currently waiting for ‘the right role’. Don’t wait too long, girl?

All these bright outfits have put a Spring in my step again, I hope they’ve done the same for you!

Necklaces – Make A Statement!

We always stress about fashion styling, what should we wear? What’s appropriate and so on….
There’s always one vital item we sometimes overlook and that’s necklaces. The right necklace can lift any outfit taking it from casual to glam, giving a more interesting neckline. This summer, necklaces have gone big, statement and bold. Think bling, spikes, multi-chains, neon colours and extra large pendants. I have picked out my fab 6, all jazzy enough to make any boring t-shirt look mighty stylish! The best part? Necklaces suit EVERYONE!

The key to accessorising these statement necklaces is to pick out accent colour in your outfit. If your outfit is blue then go for a complimenting colour such as yellow, purple or pink and vice versa. If you’re having trouble, pick up a colour wheel and have a play, you may just find your perfect colour combination!

emma willis style steal

Celebrity Style Steal: Emma Willis Looks Beautiful On Big Brother

Emma Willis is a breath of fresh air to Big Brother, isn’t she? Sometimes I tune into eviction night more to see what Emma is wearing than find out who is leaving the house! That said, I do like Emma’s style of interviewing as the pretty TV presenter manages to draw out of people controversial quotes about what they really thought of their housemates and I love a bit of drama. I definitely think this year’s Big Brother is better than last year’s and that’s not just because Very is sponsoring all the furniture but because the housemates are actually doing interesting things this year.

Talking of interest and drama, Emma’s outfit for last week’s evictions was totally dramatic and bold – I loved it! I was so happy to see you can recreate the outfit pretty easily with clothes from Very as this look is perfect for a smart summers day or a relaxed night out depending on how you dress it up or down with accessories. Simply start with the Love Label bonded lace pencil skirt and make it even brighter with the Glamorous neon shirt. Then it’s time for the accessories, starting with stunning pink platforms like the Love Label Kent colour block point platform pink shoes and some matching pink make-up -I’d use the Illamasqua pink lipstick with some matching light pink Barry M gelly nail paint in Dragon Fly. Now, I can’t wait to see what Emma wears next week!

All your ghd questions answered!

Last week we had the lovely girls from ghd at Very HQ talking through all their products and doing demos on us girls.  We managed to grab them to answer some of our Facebook customer questions……………

Q: I have long thick hair, which styler would you recommend and do you have any styling tips?

A: ghd IV Classic Styler is perfect for your hair. If your hair is long and thick use smaller sections and move the styler at a slower speed through the hair to create a stronger curl.

STYLE TIP – Spray ghd Curl Hold Spray on to a paddle brush and work through the hair this will ensure that the spray reaches all of the hair and not just sit on top.

Q: I’m on holiday in Mexico and the humidity is not good for straightened hair I only have a shoulder length bob with a fringe what can I do.?

A: Rather than focus on keeping your hair straight in humidity you should focus on working texture into the hair using the twist and dry method.

  • Take large sections of hair
  • Apply ghd Straight and Tame cream
  • Twist the hair to form long spirals
  • Using the ghd Air and NEW diffuser (soon to be in stock) lightly diffuse the hair trying not to disturb the spirals until they are dry.
  • Apply ghd Smooth and Finish Serum on to your hands and apply like hand cream.
  • Rake fingers through the hair to break up spirals to form loose Mexican tussles.

Q: Is there a mini styler? My hair is short and wavy and I would like to help define the curl more.

A: ghd do have mini stylers available however have you tried the ghd IV Classic Styler? This will easily do the job you are looking for as well as offer more versatility.  Curl the hair clockwise and anti-clockwise in alternate sections to give more of a textured wave rather than form uniform curls.

Q: I love my styler for the sleek and smooth effect but struggle achieving volume, how can use it to get some extra volume in my hair?

A: Voluminous straight hair can be achieved by using a technique called Brush and Bevel.  Straighten the hair as you normally would but through with a ghd Natural Bristle Brush size 4. While the hair is still hot it will take on the shape of the brush adding volume and the natural bristles on the brush will add shine.

STYLE TIP – To create more volume when drying or straightening your hair – pull up not down!

Q: How do you use the styler to create perfect curls. Everytime I try I end up with strange right angles?

A: To get the party hair look:

  • Part the hair down the centre all the way to the nape of the neck.
  • Take a section from the front of the hairline to the nape of the neck.
  • Using ghd Curl Hold Spray lightly mist the hair.
  • Putting the styler in at the root twist 180 degrees – your thumb will start off on top of the styler and after rotating will be on the bottom.
  • Hold the loose piece of hair and push the styler diagonally across the hair forming a ‘V’ shape and leave curl to cool.
  • Repeat all the way up hair line.
  • Spritz the ghd Paddle Brush with ghd Final Shine Spray and brush curl into a beautiful wave.

Caring for your ghd

If there are marks on the plates of your ghd stylers it is probably product build up and is easily removed.

Don’t wet your ghd stylers!

When your ghd stylers are warm (cool to touch) rub the plates with a lightly dampened piece of cotton wool

For videos of step by step guides on how to get the most out of your ghd’s check out the ghd YouTube channel.

Three Scorching Hot Looks From The Red 2 Premiere

The Red 2 film premiere happened on the hottest day of the year in London but the celebrities managed to stay cool on the red carpet in some pretty outfits. This is one of the rare few times that I haven’t seen one single maxi dress on the red carpet – most stars wore knee length dresses and singer Katie Melua (above left) wore shorts. I think she pulled it off though as Katie is quite adventurous in all aspects of her life. As she was being interviewed on the red carpet she told me that she’d just come from a charity sky dive for Armed Forces charity The Royal British Legion. My legs would be shaking after that but Katie looked calm and well put together in her white shorts.

The film has a big budget cast with Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta Jones and Bruce Willis and one of my other favourite looks of the night was from Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming-Willis.

The lightweight blue dress is so summery and I think she even upstages her film star husband, especially with those beige platform shoes. I had to ask Bruce about the movie he’s best known for, Die Hard, and he confirmed that there were plans to do a Die Hard 6 called Die Hardest. Bruce is now 58 and he’s still working hard!

Finally, I have to say that Mary Louise Parker is an actress that is going to have tons more work after finishing this film. She looked drop dead gorgeous at the premiere in a floaty grey dress and she’s becoming a bit of a sex symbol as she got to kiss Bruce Willis in Red 2. What was that like? ‘It’s not very sexy when everyone’s watching you but Bruce was a gentleman,’ she revealed. Well, she knows how to be diplomatic at least. Her next role will be alongside Selena Gomez and Heather Graham in a comedy called Behaving Badly. Watch out for her!

Red 2 – a gripping thriller about an ex CIA operative’s search to prevent a nuclear war device from falling into the wrong hands – is out on 2 August in the UK. It will have you on the edge of your seats.

Exclusive Gossip From The Lovebox Festival

The Lovebox festival took place in London’s Victoria Park at the weekend and it was an explosion of colour and brights! This sunny weather really is making everyone more daring and I noticed that the crowds were a lot more experimental as well as the performers. How fabulous!

Lovebox is always an upbeat event as it’s more of a dance music festival than an indie music event and typically dance acts tend to be more flamboyant. But when the sun is out, it adds an extra edge to proceedings, doesn’t it? With Rudimental, Plan B and Mark Ronson, the line-up contained a lot of male acts but when it came to fashion the girls did it the best. Here are my top three favourites from the Lovebox Ladies along with a bit of gossip about what they got up to:

Azealia Banks

Azealia Banks started off the festival in outrageous style as she headlined the main stage on the Friday night. I don’t know what was more controversial – the green jumpsuit or her risqué lyrics! Still, the crowd seemed to be almost hysterical as she got them shouting along to her hits like 212. She may be a newcomer to the music scene, but she knows how to put on a show.

Lianne La Havvas

I knew Lianne was a talented singer but I’d never seen her live before and I was impressed. She controlled the stage in her bold multi-colour dress and she managed to play her own instruments too. Her 70s sound was a refreshing change from some of the electro beats on the line up and I hear there are bright things to come for Lianne. Her career’s had a meteoric rise since she first performed on Jools Holland’s TV show last year and she’s due to tour the world to promote her album Is Your Love Big Enough. She’s on her way to New York next week to showcase this unique sound. Her voice reminds me a bit of Leona Lewis, she’s so talented! I hope she does us Brits proud in the States….

 AlunaGeorge

Based on their Lovebox set, I’d say AlunaGeorge are the up and coming band of the year. If you get a chance to see this electro double act live then seize it. While most people struggle to know the words to most of their songs, few people can stop themselves naturally shifting (and sometimes jumping) to their beat. Their set lifts you up, calms you down and then ends on a high and it helps that both Aluna and George are very good-looking. I loved Aluna’s cute black shorts and crop top.

The final piece of gossip involves a bit of drama. US rapper Lil’Kim was due to make her first London appearance since 2001 but she turned up so late bosses told her there was no point going on stage. Everyone was so dissapointed. What a diva!

Thankfully, the festival season continues with V, Reading and Bestival still to come. Are you going to any? I hope it stays bright!

3 Summer Wedding Outfits

WOW! We’re finally having a heat wave, about time really considering the amount of rain we see each year! Today’s topic is all about summer weddings. This hot sticky weather calls for light airy fabrics that won’t break a sweat. I have a few weddings to attend myself and I am certainly wearing something lightweight and floaty. I have put together 3 outfits, all beautiful in colour and all suitable for a hot sweaty day!

The Quirky Option

One of my favourite dresses is the one above, easy to wear, flattering and super comfortable. The colour is one of my favourites too! Pretty Summery Coral. The Ted Baker Penny Floral Embellished Dress is so easy to wear!  These Love Label Cone Heel Open Toe Court Shoes are perfect and the Stud Deatil Heart Shaped Clutch is from AWEAR and the finishing touch, bangle is from Fiorelli.

The Classic Option

This Little Mistress Chiffon Strappy Dress is great for boyish shapes as the extra volume at the bottom will add some curves. Finish with Miss KG Ora Jewelled Clutch and some South Fawcett Open Toe Platform Court Shoes. Keep the jewelery to a minimum with this DKNY Essentials Diamante Band Ring.

The Glamourous Option

This dress is perfect for you if you want to cover your legs and elongate your body. This Definitions Lace Panel Maxi Dress is so striking on it’s own due to the lace detail so keep accessories to a minimal with matching silver shows and bag. Try these Teatro Fey Mid Heel Open Toe Court Silver Shoes paired with this Anna Sequin Cluster Frame Clutch for some glamour.

The only rule of summer wedding outfits? If you’re not the bride than don’t wear white! Also, check what colour the bridesmaid dresses are, you don’t want to clash with them.

Celebrities Working The Bold And Bright Trend At ITV Summer Party

Summer’s officially here and everywhere I look I see people happier, smilier and generally brighter than ever. The celebrities are leading the way, getting out their brightest outfits and accessorising their show-stopping clothes with a big grin and maybe a big pair of sunglasses. When I went to the ITV summer party, I don’t think I saw any black! Colour was the un-official dress code of the night and it was led by Very designer and This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby. Holly’s new collection has just come into Very and there are some gorgeous bright dresses in there – I love it!

I was also quite impressed by The Only Way Is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh, who dazzled in a lime green dress. I never imagined I would like an outfit worn by a TOWIE star so much but the green colour goes so well with a summer tan. I also noticed a lot of celebs wearing red with ex Spice Girl Emma Bunton looking sophisticated in a smart red dress and Myleene Klass looking chic in a dress from her own collection for Very – a dice print dress. The bright red lipstick is also a nice touch, isn’t it?

Ex Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati is my final pick of the night, with her yellow dress making her look youthful and pretty. Brightening up your clothes can make your face appear lighter and more youthful…well, that’s what it seems to have done for Shobna.

Looking at all these celebrities in different colours shows everyone can wear bold and brights – if blue or green isn’t your colour then go for red or pink. Now summer is set to stay, we may as well embrace it! The hardest decision for me is working out what colour to go for first..

Vanessa-Hudgens

Exclusive Interview: Vanessa Hudgens At Frozen Ground Premiere

Vanessa Hudgens has totally thrown off her High School Musical image now – her new film Frozen Ground shows she can tackle a serious, gritty and emotional role. It’s completely different to the last movie she did recently, Spring Break, showing that Vanessa has the ability to transform herself for a part. At the premiere of Frozen Ground, in which she stars with Hollywood heavyweight Nicolas Cage, I caught up with her on the red carpet and here’s what she has to say about fashion and style inspiration.

Q: What’s your fashion style?

VANESSA: “My style changes like my hair. I find that if I have short hair I am more experimental and if I have long hair, I’m more bohemian with loose skirts and kaftans.”

Q: What is it right now?

VANESSA: ‘The hair extensions are in again. So I am a bohemian gypsy. I like maxi skirts, maxi dresses and jumpsuits.”

Q: Who’s your style icon?

VANESSA: “If I could go back in time, I’d be front row for Janis Joplin at Woodstock!  I love anything festival related. The first time I went to Coachella, I thought, ‘This is heaven.’ You just feel completely free. I’m going to go every single year until I die.”

Q: What do you wear to festivals?

VANESSA: “What I like about festivals is you are free to wear whatever you want. Just remember some sunglasses.”

Q: Tell us about the new movie?

VANESSA: ‘The first time I saw it I did have some moments where I was like, ‘Why are you making those faces Vanessa?’ It’s quite gritty and there are some pretty scary moments.”

Frozen Ground is about the real life hunt for serial killer Robert Hansen with Nicolas playing the determined cop and Vanessa playing a teenager that escapes the killer and then gets caught again. Drama! It’s released on 19 July and I totally recommend it.
