The One Direction: This Is Us premiere was the biggest thing to hit London’s Leicester Square for years. The fan that was first in the queue had camped in the square since Sunday, which is two nights in a tent and it did rain at times. Now that is fan dedication! However, it paid off for her and her friends as the boys spent two hours before the film signing autographs and posing for photos with the fans’ camera phones. If you want to meet the boys, you just have to put in the work. However, if you weren’t able to make it to the premiere then fear not as I have a round-up of what happened from being on the red carpet – quotes from the boys and photos of them and some of the celebrity guests.
The band arrived at the Empire Leicester Square at 5pm and went straight to the fans. I was listening to see who was the most popular and I definitely heard more screams for Zayn and Harry. At one point a fan who had dressed up in a wedding dress tried to propose to Harry, while other fans (in the normal cards) held up placards and handmade posters saying Marry Me Harry. Until recently Prince Harry was the most eligible bachelor in the UK but I think Harry Styles is now more popular than the Prince!
On the red carpet, Harry was asked what he thought fans could learn from the movie and he said: ‘I just want people to see what it’s like to be us, so they get to know us better. Also, we want them to see how much we appreciate them as we know if it wasn’t for them all this wouldn’t be possible.’ This made me see why the girls like Harry so much – he talks really seriously and when he talks his blue eyes get really intense. I wouldn’t go so far to say I want to marry him, but he does deserve his hearthrob status.
I also talked to Zayn about life in the band, as Zayn almost quit the band during the live shows of the X Factor due to illness and anxiety. He said: ‘It’s crazy to think I came so close to missing out on all this. I really wanted to quit and I cannot imagine what life would have been like if I missed out on the opportunity to be in the band. I can’t think about it. I’m really grateful all the time.’
Zayn showed his appreciation by signing fan pictures, just like Louis Tomlinson.
And like all premieres, there were glamorous guests on the red carpet. I was really impressed by how well the Little Mix ladies (minus one band member, Jesy Nelson) dressed up. I love Leigh-Anne Pinnock’s black jumpsuit but Perrie Edwards’ maxi dress looked super cute too.
The most famous father-to-be, Simon Cowell, looked rather smug as he walked the red carpet in his sunglasses and black suit. Given that it was the X Factor that launched the boys and his record label that signed them, it’s no wonder he’s looking pleased with himself as he must be laughing all the way to the bank. Jealous!
The movie will be in cinemas on 29 August. Are you getting excited yet?
