It is the 40th year of Brighton’s Gay Pride and that meant the pressure was on all the performers to smash it at the weekend. In previous years the event had been completely free but this year it turned into a mini festival with live gigs from Stooshe (above), the original Sugababes who now go under the name MKS (Mutya, Keisha, Siobhan) and Paloma Faith. These cool, classy ladies all have their unique styles but there’s one thing they have in common – they are all loud and proud.
There were so many highlights! Stooshe, who were dressed head to toe in relaxed sportswear, won over the crowds when they talked about their memories of Brighton. It was the first place the trio performed live. As the girls have just released their first album London with The Lights On they talked about their decision to give the album that name, saying “The title, London With The Lights On, means London exposed. We are telling our stories of London, where we grew up and live. We wanted to talk about our own experiences.” I love honesty and I think that’s partly why I love MKS, the original Sugababes. They admit they messed up and left the band and now they want a second chance.
However, Paloma Faith did something very strange. She didn’t sing but came out on stage dressed as Marilyn Monroe. With a high-waisted pencil skirt, a black going out top and sunglasses, Paloma really does pull off the Marilyn look. Do you agree?
Who do you think looked the best? I have to say I like Paloma’s old school glamour. The fashion standards at festivals seems to get better and better – I hope it lasts til the V Festival! I’ll be there on 16-17 August, bringing you the latest on what all the stars are doing and what they’re wearing…
