Laura Whitmore is one of my fashion icons and she pulled it out the bag yet again when I saw her at the Royal College of Art a fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support. The TV presenter was entertaining guests with a two hour DJ set (which is a long time when it comes to DJing) but she looked fresh faced from the beginning to end in a classic maxi dress with a black leather jacket. I think it was the jacket that transformed the look from party girl to rock chick. Here’s a full view:
I had a chat with Laura at the event, firstly finding out what she was up to right now. ‘I’m filming some adverts for MTV news, then I have some fashion work and then I have to start thinking about the new series of I’m A Celebrity,’ the busy star revealed. Does she have any fashion tips? ‘Now the weather is changing, it’s important to layer and have a coat otherwise you will get ill,’ was her sensible advice. And finally, what about art – was she tempted to buy? ‘I have actually bid for two paintings,’ she confessed. Well, it was for charity I guess. That’s a good excuse to spend money, right?
The event attracted a few glamorous guests with classical music star Katherine Jenkins (below left) and Donna Air (below right) showing us how to mix a black top and skirt. Both skirts are quite wild, aren’t they? Katherine has just got back from safari in South Africa so there’s a reason for her zebra print skirt.
Actress Kara Tointon looked very classy in a black dress. She’s come a long way since Eastenders! She told me she had plans to do another West End show, but she wouldn’t turn down a movie role if it became available. If she puts her mind to it, she’ll get it. Not many people could make a simple black dress look that good.
The event, which is now in it’s 7th year, raised around £200,000 for charity through selling works of world famous artists including Mary McCartney, Rankin, Gavin Turk and Pandemonia. Not bad for a night out!
