Finally it seems like coloured party dresses are coming back as one thing I noticed about the procession of stars walking the red carpet for The Hunger Games premiere was that they were all wearing something bright and fabulous. In Jennifer Lawrence’s case it was Fabulous with a capital F as the backless detail was just divine. I was glad the stars had made the effort this as some of the fans had been camped outside Leicester Square for 24 hours so they could be up close to the stars at the premiere. There hasn’t been this level of devotion since the One Direction premiere and if you’re going to go to such lengths to see your heroes you at least want them to dress up.
Here’s a round-up of who wore what and the main pieces of gossip. You don’t have to stand outside in London’s Leicester Square to know what’s going on. I’ll do that so you can just scroll through the photos and make your own opinions from wherever you are right now. First up, was the star of the show, Jennifer Lawrence.
Jennifer spent almost a hour chatting to fans on the red carpet and said she was ‘overwhelmed’ by all their love. She’d only arrived from LA that morning but praised the audience for helping her beat her jet lag. Still, I don’t she looked at all tired as her white dress lifted her complexion. From the front,I did think it was a bit conservative but the backless detail was a nice touch.
My personal favourite look of the night was worn by actress Jena Malone
I love a red dress and the detail on this is incredible. Wearing a red dress on a red carpet is always dangerous, so the embellishment was important. Jena’s only young but she has three new movies in the pipeline (yes, three!) One’s called Inherent Vice – a 1970s crime thriller – and she stars with Owen Wilson and Reese Witherspoon. With names like that, I’m sure it’ll be a good watch.
The film’s actress Elizabeth Banks who plays Effie in the Hunger Games, also made a real effort in a super bright yellow maxi dress.
If you can’t wear yellow to your own party, when can you wear it? Elizabeth’s next role is slightly less glam – there’s a movie all about LEGO and Elizabeth provides one of the voices. Sounds interesting though!
Keeping with the bright theme, former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts is not in the film but looked lovely in an orange bodycon dress.
Ashley was in last year’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, which is coming up again and she said she would DEFINITELY be watching. She was not allowed to comment on this year’s contestants but did smile when I mentioned the name of The Only Way is Essex star Joey Essex. Watch this space…
All these outfits have shown just how much wearing something bright drastically improves a cold, wet evening. Colour seems to be cool again. What do you think?
