Just days after The BAFTA Awards where the film world’s A’list walked the red carpet it was time for the Brits, and music icons from all over the world came to London for it. International pop stars like Beyonce, Katy Perry and Pharrell performed and everyone made a real effort with their red carpet costumes. In fact, I’d say people made more of an effort than the BAFTAs as it was an opportunity to show off their individuality. This meant there were trouser based outfits (ie Nicole Scherzinger), short dresses (ie Rosie Huntington-Whitely), maxi dresses (ie Lily Allen) and playsuits (ie Kate Moss).
Here’s a selection of my personal top along with a bit of gossip about each star that I got on the night from my spot on the red carpet with other journalists and bloggers. As Arctic Monkey Alex Turner said in his Best Album acceptance speech, ‘Rock and Roll will never die’!
Lily presented British Group to Arctic Monkeys and I personally think she upstaged them with her shocking canary yellow hair and long dress. However, it did seem she was nervous on stage as she wasn’t sure whether to announce the band first or read out the list of nominees. She’s only just getting back to work after having two kids, so she told me she was ‘taking things slow.’ I’m not sure if I believe her though – with her experience in the industry she’ll be back to full power by the Summer, I’m sure of it.
Kimberley, whose clothes designs are available at Very, showed exactly why she was able to make the transition from pop to music – she looked stunning on the red carpet. It was a hard dress to wear – some might have looked bridal in it – but Kimberley looked sweet and girly in her white maxi dress. However, she said she’s single! Her boyfriend Justin Scott needs to Put A Ring On It!
It was Nicole’s first public appearance since announcing she was leaving The X Factor and boy did she look fierce. On the red carpet she spoke about ‘girl power’ telling us that she was ‘super proud’ of everything she’d done on X Factor, especially having her acts James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas battling it out in the final in her first year as a judge. She’s still in touch with all her acts but, in her words, wants to ‘get back to the floor’. I admire her drive to follow her passion just as much as I admire her for wearing smart trousers and a blazer on the red carpet.
Rosie Huntington Whiteley
The gorgeous British model said she was ‘petrified’ about getting on stage at The O2 when she walked the red carpet in a red dress that showed off her trademark long legs. Although she took part in The Olympics she never had to say anything. Wisely she kept her speech short and sweet as she presented One Direction with Global Success award. The lucky 1D boys all got a kiss from her but she is still very much with Jason Statham, which anyone can tell if they look at her Instagram. Talk about loved up!
This has to be my favourite dress of the night. With it’s plunging neckline showing off her cleavage and drop back, it’s little wonder her boyfriend Calvin Harris wanted to walk with her on the red carpet to keep an eye on her. She wasn’t nominated for anything but this yellow dress is a real winner – I bet all the other pop stars were really jealous. Rita’s got a part in the new 50 Shades of Grey movie so she’ll be swapping the Brits for The Oscars before we know it. I love seeing a British star do well, don’t you?
I know I said top 5 moments, but I couldn’t help but add a 6th knowing that Kate’s playsuit was one of the original Ziggy Stardust outfits from David Bowie’s tour. She collected the Best Male award for David Bowie and made sure he got headlines by passing on his political message – ‘Stay With Us Scotland’. As Scotland are trying to set themselves up as a separate country to Great Britain, the 67 year old is sensible enough to use his time in the spotlight to give his opinion on it. It was really interesting to hear Kate speak as that hardly ever happens! Although I know she researched it to sound more posh as she doesn’t normally sound like that, trust me.
So what was your favourite outfit? What was your favourite moment? I think this is one of the Best Brits ever!
