We love a good home trend at Very HQ. Next to buying a new dress or shoes, there’s not much more exciting than kitting out a room so it’s totally on-trend.
One of our favourite home trends for Spring Summer 14 is the enigmatically titled Curious Collection, which is described as “contemporary industrial meets Darwin-esque éclat.” Now, if that all sounds a bit scary (and it did to me when I first read it!), don’t worry. I’m here to break down what the trend is and how you can achieve it.
The overall look is quirky and modern with a bit of an industrial twist – think exposed brickwork and you’re getting there. That said, we don’t expect you to start knocking the plaster off your walls! There are much easier, less messy ways to get your home on-trend, namely furniture and accessories!
Materials you’re looking for are oxidized metals, worn linen and canvases, and aged leather, all combined with hints of Victoriana, plus a colour palette of neutrals and deep blues mixed with aqua, vivid greens and a splash of yellow. The look is playful, lived-in, homely and eclectic and I’ve picked out a few items from the collection to get you started.
Lighting’s a great place to start. I love the metal Anneka Easy Fit Pendant which comes in an array of Curious Collection colours and just fits over your existing bulb – simple! But if you don’t fancy climbing any ladders, the Thea floor lamp and table lamp are also fab and have that cool, quirky look in abundance.
If you want to make a statement with your furniture then why not start with the bedroom? This Abbey storage bed not only gives you a practical place to store stuff away (it beats under the bed, doesn’t it?), but the gorgeous button-back headboard gives you that fab contemporary Victorian twist that the trend is all about!
If you’ve been paying attention to the pictures (I’m sure you have – they’re stunning!), then you’re bound to have noticed that butterflies are a massive part of the Curious Collection. You can have them on cushions, artwork and even in photo frames! Mix them up with fun typographical canvases, vintage clocks and this fun owl ornament to really nail the trend!
You can find out even more about Curious Collection and shop the trend on our dedicated hub too so you can pick and choose your favourite pieces. Enjoy!
