If there’s one thing any Very girl knows, it’s that neons are not the easiest thing to pull off (at least, if you’re anything like me!). Too much and you’ll look like a glow-stick, too little and it’ll all seem a bit random. So imagine how hard it can be to do in your home… Nightmare, right? Actually, not at all – which is good because one of the hottest homeware trends for Spring Summer 14 is the aptly named Neon Flash!
The idea of having neon in your home might sound a bit hellish, but we’re not really talking floor to ceiling fluorescents (although if you want to do that, that’s fine too – be sure to send us some pics!), more like, as the name suggests, flashes or pops of neon colour in an otherwise minimalist (ideally white) room with a modern, architectural look. That sounds easier, doesn’t it? Just remember that high gloss is key so look out for Perspex, vinyl, coated canvas, high-shine metallics and crisp finishes.
In the bedroom for instance, opt for some modern Echo furniture plus a white faux-leather bed with a mix of bright and white plain dye bedding. Finishing touches could include the fab telephone cushion and the gorgeous (I want one so bad) Chester dog table lamp in pink.
In the lounge, you can have a bit of fun with colourful neon furniture, like this Luxor sofa bed in raspberry, and add cool accessories such as our quirky balloon dog ornament, the amazing Sagemcom retro cordless phone, or a stunning orange vase.
The bathroom is probably the easiest place to go neon. Add some striped Brights bathroom accessories, this colourful mirror from Sabichi and some vivid plain dye towels and bath sheets. It’s so simple and it’ll be bright and cheerful when you’re getting ready in the morning!
Hopefully the idea of neon at home is a bit less scary now (although we still want to see that floor to ceiling neon room!) and you’re all set to shop at our Neon Flash hub, which also has more info and advice on the trend. In the meantime, I’m off to get that dog lamp!
