EXCLUSIVE: Fearne Cotton Launches Eye-Popping New Clothing Range

Fearne Cotton launched her new collection to journalists with an intimate cocktail party in London’s Groucho Club and the room was packed. All the major mags came to get a glimpse at Fearne’s latest designs and the general feeling was this range is one of her best yet. It was a sunny day outside but it was Fearne’s clothes that caused the atmosphere to heat up at the party – with bright and bold designs capturing everyone’s attention from the moment they walked in.

I grabbed Fearne for an exclusive Q & A about the new collection:

QS: How do you go about designing the clothes?

FEARNE: I design every day. I pull pages out of magazines and take pieces of fabric that feels good and pin it all to a huge mood board. I am obsessive about collecting little things and saving them so when it comes to sketching, I have tons of influences that’s relevant to my life. I think that’s important.

QS: What influenced you this season?

FEARNE: Colour! I think this is one of the brightest collection I’ve done. I do a lot of printed items normally and I’ve still got that but there’s quite an emphasis on block colour in this collection. You can wear that to a wedding or a birthday party and party all night long in them. It’s a ‘happy’ collection.

QS: What are you excited about in Autumn?

FEARNE: I’m just enjoying work right now. I haven’t got any holidays coming up so I’m just excited about simple things like walking through the London parks when the weather changes.

QS: What is your favourite from this range?

FEARNE: I’ve worn the bright floral co-ordinates a few times – you can wear it together or separately – and the same for the skirt too. But it depends on my mood as I love a playsuit and then every girl needs a power dress for going out.

Here are some of the clothes:

This is the floral suit Fearne was talking about.

I loved the print of this flattering shift dress

At first glance, the blue dress on the left looked like a shirt dress, but it’s actually a playsuit!

This monochrome dress has a cute bird print on it – so pretty!

Fearne wore her statement Petal Sleeve prom dress on the night, but an equal statement dress in her range is this pink a-line dress.

I love co-ordinates and I heard a lot of people admiring this jacquard zip skirt on the left. The zip adds a new season twist.

What’s your favourite item? I’m just blown away by the amount of thought Fearne puts into each piece.

Best Dressed In White At Young Hollywood Awards

The Young Hollywood Awards are The Oscars for the under 25s! Actors and actresses start a lot younger in America and so it’s only right they have some form of recognition for their hard work. But just because they’re young, it doesn’t mean they don’t have style. In fact, older Hollywood stars need to watch their backs as these up and coming stars could soon upstage them.

This year, there was a common theme among the nominees and show presenters – white. As it’s summer the typical long black dress for an award ceremony has been replaced by knee length or long white outfits. My top five are:

Kelly Osbourne

Geometric triangles added a bold twist to her white shift dress.

Ashley Tisdale

With a printed leaf pattern, award-winner Ashley looked a cut above.

Audrina Patridge

The Hills reality tv star showed how co-ordinates can be just as stylish as a dress. The lace effect was super cute.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa embraced her boho side with a long white maxi skirt. With bed hair and denim she owns this look.

Bella Thorne

Chic and elegant, Bella kept it simple with a shift dress and statement metallic sandals.

Who do you think looked best?

Celebrity Style Steal: Rochelle Humes Shows Off Her New Range

If there’s one lady that knows how to rock cool casual it’s Rochelle Humes. The Saturdays singer always dresses to turn heads with her use of colour, but when you look closely her clothes are always really easy to wear. Her own collection for Very reflects this and she believes in it so much she wears it a lot herself. This week she’s presenting ITV’s This Morning with her husband Marvin and she wore clothes from her collection as she left the ITV studios and climbed into a taxi, presumably to be reunited with her gorgeous daughter Alaia May.

As a working mother on TV, it’s essential she can combine glamour with comfort and she did just that with what she wore – the printed woven top and printed woven shorts from her new range. To complete this look you could add some sandals like the Carvela ankle strap sandals and some jewellery like the chain weave cuff bracelet to add some extra shine. A big bag is a useful accessory if you have a busy life like Rochelle, you definitely need a tote bag.

What do you think?

Fearne Cotton Home AW14 Banner

Introducing Fearne’s New Home Trend

If you’re looking for key pieces to give your home a decadent, quirky, through the looking glass feel, then you needn’t look any further than Fearne Cotton’s new Home collection for Autumn Winter 14. We’ve been super excited about this drop at Very HQ for so long – just take one look at our fab pics to see why!

Building on her earlier collections, this new one shows off Fearne’s strong individual style to give your home a cool but distinctly feminine look.

Fearne Cotton Home AW14Take the Hepburn lighting range, for instance. The monochrome shades and spindle bases are dramatically gothic, but the floral detailing and ribbons really soften the look. Imagine curling up with a glass of wine and a good book with one of these lighting your room!

Fearne Cotton Home AW14And then there’s the cushions. These are cleverly designed to sit well together while still giving that eclectic, curated look that Fearne always pulls off so effortlessly. We’re crazy for the cool cat cushion that lets you be a cat lady in the best possible sense, and I personally can’t wait to get the Portobello cushion on to my sofa!

Black has come into the collection in a big way this season, with mirrors, photo frames, beds and chairs all taking on a touch of gothic glamour for a sophisticated, grown up style that still has plenty of Fearne’s signature quirkiness. Your room will look stunning, although I don’t envy you the decision of choosing which pieces to buy!

Top Tips

Top Tips For Doing Up Your Home

Just over a year ago I bought my first home and I’ve spent most of that time doing it up. To get into my dream area I had to compromise somewhat and ended up buying a rather unloved two-bedroom Victorian terrace that was badly in need of a lot of work.

Everyone at Very HQ knows about this because I basically don’t shut up about it (it’s OK, I know they totally love hearing about wallpaper samples), but besides constantly reaffirming my status as a complete interior design nerd, I have collected some good tips that I can share with anyone in the same situation. So if you’ve just bought your first wreck and are beginning to wonder what you were thinking, read on – and let me know if you have any tips of your own!

KitchenKitchen: before and after.

1. Live there for a bit

Trust me, you’ll move in with grand ideas about what you want to do, but you won’t really know what needs doing until you’ve spent a bit of time there. You don’t want to blow your budget on getting, say, a new bathroom when the current one is liveable, only to discover your kitchen units are rotting. The idea of living in a yucky, undecorated house might not thrill you but it’s totally worth it!

2. Be prepared to prioritise

Unless you’re a financial genius then you’re probably not going to be able to afford to do everything straight away. If, like me, you’ve moved into a complete fixer upper, decide after living in the house a while which jobs are urgent and which can wait. As my house was such a wreck (we didn’t have a kitchen floor as some bright spark had once laid cushion floor directly on the dirt, to name but one big job!) a lot of big stuff was urgent, so fun things like buying wall art suddenly dropped several rungs on the list.

3. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty

DIY isn’t as scary as some people like to think and, while it’s tempting to pay someone to do all the work for you, it’s also expensive. Expert jobs like plumbing, electrics etc. get someone in for. Otherwise have a bash yourself. Painting, hanging wallpaper, fitting shelves, putting together furniture – once you’ve done it once it’s a lot easier and you can always ask more experienced friends and family to help. The satisfaction you get looking around a room you’ve just finished decorating yourself is immense.

BathroomBathroom: before and after.

4. Enjoy it!

Fixing your place up is seriously stressful. It’s a financial drain and you have to make a lot of sacrifices and compromises (living without a loo or shower for 4 weeks – yay!) but you know what, it’s fun as well. You get to make everything exactly how you want it and you get to spend time picking out pretty homewares, reading home magazines and showing people snaps that won’t at all bore them to death after the fiftieth time. And after it’s all over, you can really start living there.

Summer Blockbusters

What’s Your Summer Blockbuster Style?

The sun’s out, the weather’s actually hot, and the smell of BBQ is in the air. We all know what that means… Yep, that’s right, it’s time to lock ourselves in a dark room with a bunch of other people and stare at a screen! We’re at the height of summer blockbuster season and there are some fab films on their way.

Chances are, unless you’re a bit of a film buff, you’re not going to go see all of them (there’s BBQs, festivals and beer gardens to frequent after all!) so which one’s the one for you? Luckily, I’ve put together a handy guide so you can work out where to invest your popcorn budget.

Guardians of the Galaxy film
If you’re a sci-fi fan you should totally head for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (in cinemas 31 July). It’s the start of what will likely be the next big film franchise for Marvel and if you loved The Avengers and all of its off-shoots then you’re probably going to go mad for this. The rather lovely Chris Pratt of Parks and Recreation plays Peter Quill, who becomes the object of a manhunt after he steals a mysterious orb. The handsome rogue is forced into an alliance with a band of misfits in order to evade his would-be captors, before realising that the the fate of the entire universe is in his hands… Expect awesome special effects, lots of off-beat humour and Bradley Cooper playing an intergalactic raccoon. Seriously.

The Expendables 3If action’s your thing then it’s got to be The Expendables 3 (in cinemas 4 August). Sylvester Stallone’s franchise about a gang of mercenaries made up of some of cinema’s biggest and best action heroes is in its third installment and it promises to be just as bonkers as the previous two. This time they come up against ruthless arms dealer, Conrad Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), who wants to destroy the group, forcing Stone’s Barney Ross to recruit a new generation of younger Expendables. You can expect explosions, fights, cheesy lines and a lot of muscle. Oh, and Jason Statham. Let’s never forget Jason Statham.

Sin city 2
If you love graphic novels and film noir then you should definitely make Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For your pick (it’s in cinemas 25th August). It’s the long awaited follow-up to Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s  Sin City and, from the promo materials, it’s looking just as stylish and sexy. Like its predecessor, it’s made up of a series of shorter narratives, each dealing with different characters and stories within the same city. Expect the stories to intermingle throughout the running time and see if you can spot all of the famous faces!

Sex TapeIf all of the above sounds a bit action-heavy and you feel more like a comedy, then you should check out Sex Tape when it hits cinemas on 3 September. I have to admit, I’m a massive fan of Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal, so I’m hoping for good things from this. They play a couple who attempt to spice things up by making a sex tape. But when it leaks, they have to race to get it back, exposing even more than they bargained for in the process. Expect rude jokes, big belly laughs and quite a lot of nudity.

So hopefully you’ve now decided on your blockbuster of choice so there’s just one thing left to ask: salted or sweet?

Celebrity Style Steal: Fearne Cotton’s Floral Kimono

It’s back to work for newlywed Fearne Cotton but she’s making life brighter for herself. Rather than crawl back to work with dark clothes she’s bringing a touch of the holiday vibe into the Radio 1 studios with lots of colour. If you need something vibrant just like this then I have some happy news. Her top is from her own collection – the Fearne Cotton printed kimono.

To make it even cooler you need some accessories. Fearne’s stylish gold footwear is similar to the Shoe Box Sally leather fisherman sandals. Tortoiseshell rim sunglasses are very popular right now, just like the vintage cats eye matt sunglasses.

When you have so much colour you do need some items in classic black to balance the look. Fearne does this with fitted black trousers like the Definitions essential slim trousers and a black tote like the Mini Middleton tote bag.

So if you have to go to work while it’s sunny outside, don’t despair. If you wear something cheerful it will make you feel better for sure.

Michelle Keegan And Mark Wright Celebrate Wedding In Style

Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright definitely caught the loved-up feeling at his cousin Leah Wright’s wedding in Spain as they could barely stop giving each other tender kisses and little cuddles. They make such a beautiful couple, don’t they? TV presenter Mark always looks impeccable as in Essex men take as much time over their appearance as women, while the actress who’s been voted Soap’s Sexiest Star for six years in a row is naturally gorgeous.

But for the wedding, I  love how she made an effort. The blue dress is perfect for an outdoor wedding and in Spain it matched the colour of the clear blue sky. The embossed midi dress is actually a dress from her own collection for Lipsy. So pretty!

Also looking loved-up at the wedding was The Only Way is Essex stars Eliot Wright, another of Mark’s cousins, and his new girlfriend Chloe Sims. She dressed for the heat with a floaty pink dress with strappy sandals. I like her vampy red nail varnish too!

The bridesmaids included Leah Wright’s cousin and Mark’s sister Jessica Wright (below, second left) and they wore floaty green dresses. They must have been relieved that the bride picked flattering outfits for them. All in all, the family couldn’t stop smiling all day and posed for tons of pics. Just like what we all get up to at weddings then….

It won’t be long until Michelle walks the aisle herself. One thing’s for sure is she will make a stunning bride!

How to wear dresses from Day to Night from

Summer is here! Which means there are going to be times that you will be out during the day and in the evening when you haven’t been able to bring a change of clothes. If you can prepare yourself in advance and know that there is a strong possibility that you are going to go out in the evening some of these top tips may help you change from day wear to night wear without changing your clothing, but just the accessories!

definitions swing shirt dress 35.00

The Definitions swing shirt dress is a perfect day dress, as it’s quite simplistic and light. For day wear, a pair of navy flat shoes would look great along with a white over body bag and anklet. For night wear, trade the navy flats for a pair of white platform heels which will match the dress nicely. Wear with a ruby red blazer and a white clutch to finish the look off.

girls on film floral print dropped hem dress 34.00

The Girls on Film floral print dropped hem dress is a lovely statement dress with it’s a vibrant burst of pink attracting attention. For day wear, a pair of black court shoes with a pink shoulder bag and a silver necklace and bracelet would make for a lovely summer look, not overdoing it too much. For night wear, replace those court shoes, with platform boots with silver stud detail to give a more edgy look and change the shoulder bag for a clutch in the same colour.

glamorous short sleeve swing dress 20.00

The Glamorous short sleeve swing dress is a very simple dress, yet with the right accessories can change into a must have piece for your wardrobe. The pastel colours are huge this season, so this pastel pink dress is already a winner. For day wear, wear this dress with silver strappy sandals as well as a silver chunky pendant necklace, charm bracelet and also a white shoulder bag. For night wear, a white blazer is an essential to create a sophisticated look with this dress. The jewellery can stay the same, but the shoes need to be changed from sandals to white heels.

colleen laser cut hem dress 49.00

The Coleen laser cut hem dress is a beautiful royal blue colour, which is a great summer colour. Just because the dress is a bit longer sitting at just around knee length and isn’t bodycon material, doesn’t mean that it can’t be changed from day wear to night wear easily, because it can. For day wear, a pair of colourful sandals along with some bright costume jewellery would create a very bright summery look. For nightwear, swap the sandals for a pair of neon orange heels and you’re sorted,

This shows that most of the time, the piece or pieces of clothing can stay the same, but if you change your accessories, such as your shoes, jewellery and outerwear you can create a totally different look from day to night.

Frankie Sandford’s Picture Perfect Summer Wedding

The Saturday’s singer Frankie Sandford married her footballer partner Wayne Bridge in what has to be one of the prettiest summer weddings ever! All The Saturdays were watching her with tears in their eyes as she wed in a stately home, Woburn Abbey, in the Bedfordshire countryside.

The weather held out and it was hot and sunny which meant two things – bright dresses and floaty dresses. Rochelle Humes, whose clothing collection launch I attended last week, ticked both boxes by arriving pre-ceremony in a dress from her new collection. This chiffon stripe prom dress is a great dress for when you want to look smart but you have stuff to do (in her case driving and looking after her cute daughter Alaia May).

For the actual ceremony, she changed to a brighter dress. The pink bodycon dress she picked was so flattering on her skin tone, wasn’t it? Una Foden also went for bright with a cobalt blue dress that contrasted brilliantly with her red hair.

However, floaty and feminine was the order of the day for Vanessa White, who looked very pretty in a purple maxi dress. Mollie King went for a striped white midi dress with a delicate gold bow at the waist. Cute but classy!

Does this get you in the mood for summer weddings? I wish I had one to go to now. Good luck to the new Mr and Mrs Bridge!
