We’re celebrating summer with yet another HUGE trend drop - you all went nuts for our first #VerySummerEdit so you’re going to be blown away this time as it looks ah-m-a-z-iii-n-g. The fashion team jetted off the Marrakech for the shoot, apparently it was 45 degrees and the models make-up kept melting in the heat, luckily we had a pro-team on stand by to make-sure they looked shine-free and fabulous. The trends themselves are going to be perfect for taking you from summer heat to autumn cool down (we’ve got blogger picks and inspo from each trend too, click to read more).
The Oriental Blooms trend takes everything we love about a summer floral, but gives it a darker edgier vibe. The Kimono is the perfect girly cover-up, you can wear it with a basic tee and jeans and let the print do the talking, or wear it over an LBD or simple black jumpsuit for evening. These Gladiators are pretty fierce – perfect for giving your florals a bit of a harder edge, and they may look a little scary but take your cue from Kourtney Kardashian and Ri-Ri who have both been seen rocking a pair out and about in celeb land. Try wearing a floral scuba top with a little leather skirt to toughen it up – I love this piece as it’s cross-seasonal, wear it now with ankle socks, then add boots and tights when cold nights set in. You’ve probably noticed that matchy-match is very much on the radar right now (we’ve covered it here) so you can fast-track the look with the printed top and trousers – the beauty of investing in them both is that you can mix them both back with other pieces in your wardrobe too, so it’s double bubble on the cost-per-wear front. Other pieces to look out for in this trend are the beautiful Motel playsuit (there’s already a queue forming for this one in the office) and the Oasis Biker – this is the piece that’s going to give your florals some rawk’n’roll attitude.
One of the easiest trends to get on board with this summer is Monochrome Pastels – it’s a cheats way of taking mono pieces and giving them a new injection of summer cool by mixing in with pastel pieces. It can be as simple as wearing an accessory (as above). Mono and Pastels aren’t what you’d normally think to stick together when the sun shines, but trust me it really works and it’s the best way to pull off a pastels look without looking like a stick of candy floss, and also a nice little trick for us non-girly girls out there. Key pieces to look out for in this trend are the Love Label longline drape blazer – this is a go-to piece for this trend, wear it with the sleeves rolled up over a cute mono outfit. I’ve also fallen in love with the Glamorous Peter-Pan collar playsuit – mod is always god when it comes to style. I think my favourite look from this trend has to be the Girls On Film dotted top and skirt - this would look so cute with pastel jellies if you wanted to play it down on holiday but it would look equally gorgeous dressed up with some nude heels and a blazer, the top’s got a little lace insert which gives it an added element of trend-ticking.
Our boldest new summer trend has got to be Jungle Brights, think big bold patterns, animal prints, hothouse colours and loads of bling on top. It’s a move on from the Tropical trend we’ve been seeing so much of this year – I’d like to think MIA is an influence here with her eclectic mash-up of influences. If you buy one piece from this trend it’s got to be the printed jumpsuit from AX Paris, this works for festivals, holidays, nights out, it’ll layer up nicely for Autumn with a long sleeved top underneath and some super-sharp boots and the shape will suit just about anyone. This leopard print top is also going to be a love me now, love me forever piece – I can’t think of many things this wont work with – jeans, pencil skirt, shorts, it’s a keeper. For this trend it’s all about colour so pair it with the cute little bright orange scuba skirt. Another stand out look for me is the Forever Unique Etna jumpsuit. I’d definitely recommend checking it out if you’ve got a party coming up, it’s got wide legs which is a key detail right now and plenty of embellishment – click here to see this and the rest of the trend.
