If you’re thinking of getting into shape for The Christmas Party Season then running is one of the best ways. It burns tons of calories, there are no gym fees and you get to be in the fresh air, exploring new areas. I know this first-hand as I’ve ran a marathon – that’s 26.2 miles – and I still enjoy running. As my marathon took place in November, it meant I had to train a lot on dark, cold and often wet mornings in London. I wish I could have practised in Istanbul as the weather is better there, but my life is in London, covering celebrity news and events, and I had to fit running around that. I prefer training in the morning as it gets it out the way but saying it’s hard to get out of bed is an understatement. Whether you’re running 3 miles or 13 miles, the first step is always the hardest! What motivated me was lying out my kit the night before as it meant I didn’t have to think about anything. I could get dressed and go.
I also learned from experience that it’s easier to get out of a warm bed if you have something warm and confortable to put on, something that makes you feel good about yourself. The key for any runner is trainers as if you have an unsupportive pair you could get injured. I wore the Adidas energy boost 2.0 trainers, which you can get at Very.
The next thing to look after is your legs. You need to warm up your legs before you start running so it’s best to have long leggings rather than shorts. I like to make a statement so the Nike printed epic run tights cheered up my mornings. However, I did also have a black pair of leggings, just in case I needed to go running after work and leave from my office. Black tights like the Adidas Supernova long run tights are great for any occasion and the tech panel at the back of the knees helps you to keep cool once you’ve warmed up. They feel super soft!
I always left the house with a jacket, but sometimes I took it off halfway and tied it round my waist. I would rather do this than go outside my house freezing cold. The Under armour running jacket or Nike Racer woven jacket, which has a hood, both look feminine and pretty. Just because you’re working out, you don’t have to compromise on style.
The finishing touch to any outfit is accessories and runnig is no exception. Asics socks will keep your feet warm and help protect against blisters while the Under Armour cable knit beanie is like a hug for your head. I always started with it and put it in my pocket if it got too much.
Now all I can say is try it and you’ll be surprised. A few years ago, I could barely run for the bus. It’s easier than you think to get addicted and this is one addiction that is actually good for your body!
