Last year I was absolutely in love with oxblood red, but left it too late to make a purchase (Ted Baker had a beautiful barrel bag that I ummed and ahhed over for too long…sniff).
So imagine my excitement last July when I saw it appearing on the runways ready for a second season!
Not just about specific tones of colours, AW14 has delved into the dark and decadent depths of four main colourways; Red, Blue, Yellow and Green (I’m tempted to say primary colours, but have a feeling from a long ago art class that this is not the case)!
OK so reds first…
We’ve got my must-have oxblood as well as berry and wine hues taking on the rich and darker side of red as well as a couple of pillar box red evening dresses making their way into our wardrobes.
Next up is blue…
From cobalts to navys, this ocean meets midnight-inspired colour palette runs right through clothing and accessories through to your nail polishes and eye shadows!
A quick nod to green…
The last two colours are possibly the more restricted colour palettes out of them all. Forget all the different pantones associated with green and instead think dark, leafy, forest greens in rich, earthy tones and textures.
Finally, my fave colour ever, yellow…
Although I don’t own many yellow items of clothing, I love yellow tulips and sunflowers and have a lemon-coloured living room, which I adore. But getting back to fashion and this season dives into the more mustard hues of this, dare I say it, primary colour, which is great news for your workwear closets (especially for Mad Men enthusiasts)!
So whichever colours you’re drawn to this AW season, remember the four palettes that led the way – I personally plan to have several items from each colourway popping up in my winter wardrobe…I already have a pair of oxblood leather ankle boots and have my eye on a Carven mini skirt in my ultimate hue fancy…yellow!
