I remember my first ever pair of Lee jeans. I was only thirteen and my Uncle, at that time, used to travel regularly to America for business. It was on one of these trips that he brought me back a pair of dark wash Lee jeans.

From the moment I put them on I was hooked – I’d never owned a pair of branded jeans before and absolutely loved them – so much so that I was forever asking him from then on if he could bring me another pair back!

Forever growing in popularity, especially from the 50s -90s, it seems like nowadays, with the popularity of the High Street, that Lee’s are no longer talked about.

Well that’s simply not the case. Lee jeans are as popular now as they ever have been.

I mean, take a look at some of the celebs who’ve sported the brand over the years…


From Marilyn Monroe to Miley Cyrus, celebs from all eras have been papped wearing their iconic pieces from the Lee collection of denim. Two of the most infamous pieces are shown above. Cheryl’s denim jacket and Miley’s contemporary take on the classic overall, which was the first style to be created back in 1889. Of course back then, the design was down to your ankle!

Now let’s look at their history…


Originating in workwear, they were the go-to name for denim overalls, aprons and dungarees, solely based on a male demographic.

It wasn’t until the 50s that Lee took on a more casual look, bringing denim into people’s off-duty wardrobes, sparking a real movement in how we perceive denim today.

In the 90s they started Lee National Denim Day, a charity supporting the research of and raising awareness of breast cancer. I love the idea – so simple. All you have to do is register your business and people have to pay $5 if they want to wear their jeans to work that day. So far they’ve raised more than $91 million!

And finally, in 2015, Lee are still delving into the contemporary casual wardrobe, maintaining their legendary pieces from way back when, but this time giving them a little modern twist.

It’s this modern twist that has kept me a Lee fan from back in the day. I love their no-nonesense approach to denim. The styles keep on top of the trends that hit the catwalks from skinny and straight to bootcut and super skinny, even their washes now range from their classic one wash to blue mountains, keeping them versatile from season to season.
