Are you one of those people who packs their denim away come spring in favour of more “weather appropriate” fabrics? Well here at Very HQ we say STOP! Your love affair with denim can carry on well into the warmer months, (the nation breathes a sigh of relief).
So, without further ado, welcome to Denim Styling 101: The Spring Edition.
For that all-important first date, personally, I think there’s nothing better to show off your gorgeous curves than a tube skirt. Form fitting and super flattering, this skirt nips in your narrow waist and finishes around the knee for a sexy yet sophisticated after dark makeover. The deep hue complements almost anything in your wardrobe, perfect for spontaneous moments when you don’t have bags of time to pick an outfit.
I love this skirt teamed with boobtube top which lets you flash a little flesh, while avoiding those dreaded tan lines, the phrase. Add a pop of colour with a beautiful pom-pom straw beach bag for a more casual al-fresco lunch date, swapping for a pretty pastel clutch as the night draws in.
When your outfit needs an attitude adjustment, you can be sure these jeans will provide it. The ultimate in edgy casuals, they’re perfect for the days when you want to look perfectly undone. I’m thinking laid back weekends when you want to show off your rock chick mentality, or a relaxed catch up with the girls where you want to make a bold statement with your outfit in one easy step.
In a light wash and relaxed fit, they’re the perfect partner to your trusty white vests and tees. Add a cowl neck cami for a girly contrast to the rough and ready trews. With a metallic tote and strappy heeled sandals, your outfit is ready to rock as soon as you are!
This denim dress will soon become your suitcase staple. Why? Well that would be down to the blend of style, and throw on appeal. The boxy shape and relaxed fit keeps you cool and comfy from day till dark, making it ideal for long days exploring new places, or simply as a cover up for your swimsuit until you get to the beach!
Add a pop of neon to your look with the Carvela jelly beach bag, team with flip-flops and sunnies and you’re ready to go. If you lose track of the time and its dusk before you realise, don’t worry, with a sweep of bronzer and a platform wedge, you can be reservation ready in a flash!
Ohhhh yesss, you heard, much to the delight of my inner child dungarees are back this SS15! With ripped knees and distressed detailing, these are very much the grown up version of my childhood staple. The relaxed fit is contrasted against a slightly tapered leg to flatter your pins, while the slashed knees and torn detailing gives them the well-loved look that’s so appealing to us denim fans. Made for days exploring new cities and far-flung places, you’ll be kept cool and stylish as you go.
To me, dungarees are brought into their own by what you wear underneath, I love to offset the rugged aesthetic with a lace tiered top and Carvela flat sandals for a hint of colour. To complete your look, add a straw duffle bag and cat eye sunnies for a functional yet fashionable feel.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past couple of months, you would’t be able to miss the biggest trend to come out of Fashion Week. The 70’s are back this season and the most iconic piece of the era, the kickflare jean. Super flattering to all shapes and sizes, these beauties (coming soon!) slim your legs widening at the knee to balance out your hips and emphasise your feminine curves. Again, the dark wash makes them so versatile so that even if you don’t want to fully embrace the 70’s then you can just dip you toe in a little bit.
However, if like me you can’t wait to don fedora hats and platforms, wear yours with a frill bardot top, Dune wedges and a pair of stunning Jimmy Choo oversized sunglasses for a hint of sparkle. Look just as fab with a white cami and your favourite summer sandals.
This pretty polka dot beaut by Love Label is the epitome of fun and flirty dressing. With its cut out straps and ultra girly print it gives a hit of playfulness to your wardrobe. With an elasticated high waistband its really flattering and really comfortable to wear, and shorts keep you nice and cool poolside. The light denim will show of your summer tan beautifully so it has to go in your suitcase.
I think the best accessories for a playsuit are a couple of chunky bracelets and a pair of killer heels, and thats all you need to look fab in a flash. They’re perfect to throw on during the day too, with a pair of embellished sandals and a cute cross-body bag to finish your look.
Everyone has a favourite pair of denim shorts, they’re a great alternative to a min skirt. You can wear them with tights when its cooler or with a boyfriend tee and ankle boots when it’s hot and you want to top up your tan. Seriously, the possibilities are endless!! These particular shorts are embroidered and ripped to add a little festival-inspired styling.
Like I said, you can pretty much wear anything, we’ve styled ours with a crocheted cami top and a straw trilby to go for the Coachella/boho/festival vibe that makes a resurgence every summer, and quite happy we are about that too.
There’s nothing better than a pair of leather sandals, heels or wedges, strappy or closed there’s something about them which just seems to set denim off so well! For off-duty days, I’d go for a wedge, these (Carvela Katey Wedge, KG Nelly Wedges) are particularly gorgeous. I love how comfy a wedge is so you won’t be hobbling round dying for a seat after a couple of hours! For the days I want to really stand out I’d opt for these. The wooden heel is a great alternative to the traditional, and the studded hardware gives them a kind of handmade look that adds a high quality finish to your denim laden outfit.
So how will you be wearing your denim this season? Which of our looks will you be trying out?
