With Coachella last week, it feels like festival season has officially started. As the weather’s still too cold to do something outside, I was happy that it started in the UK with a festival of fashion. Vogue magazine held a full weekend of talks at the Southbank centre in London, and there was an incredible atmosphere.
There was a nail bar, there was a make-up station, there was a book sale, there was refreshments and yummy cake pops and most of all, there was tons of fashion inspiration from designers, models and celebrities.
First of all, it’s not every day you meet the most Googled Kate in the world – model Kate Upton.
Showing off her long legs in a check mini skirt with a grey coat, Kate looked ready for Spring. Clashing prints looked really cool on Kate! She talked about her fitness regime – lots of eating clean with one cheat day a week – and about her skincare and make-up regime. She focuses on her skin by cleansing, toning and mositurising, wearing a high SPF face cream and by picking a foundation that lets her skin breathe. You don’t get to look flawless like her without putting an effort in to find the right products.
TV presenter Alexa Chung looked fresh in a lovely pair of white jeans. When the white jeans come out, we know summer is coming!
She played host to a discussion, interviewing Balmain designer Oliver Rousteing. Oliver has got tons of celeb pals – Kim and Kanye and Rihanna and Cara Delevingne live in his clothes. He talked about how he built the company up from scratch and how he trusts his instincts when it comes to fashion. It was very inspiring, giving the audience all confidence they could hit their goals if they believed in themselves and thought of themselves as a brand.
Former model Erin O Connor interviewed the bad boy of fashion, Jean Paul Gaultier. Erin wore a co-ordinating trouser suit for the occasion, but with a stripe top underneath in reference to Gaultier’s nationality. Gaultier admitted that his fragrance, in the iconic woman’s body bottle, is perhaps more famous than his clothes these days.
Have you ever wondered what the person who makes Christian Louboutin’s shoes looks like? This is Christian!
Wearing red socks, in a nod to the red soles of his shoes, Christian talked about the kind of woman he has in mind for Louboutin’s – strong, confident and assertive. He said he wants the shoes to improve a woman’s confidence and that each shoe shape is tested multiple times to make sure a woman can wear it from day to night. He really sounded like he was hands on with the products.
And talking of hands, it was great to have a manicure and ask the experts about what colours are on trend right now. Nudes like bronzes, camels, greys and whites are good this season – very chic and elegant.
The overall message was that we should all feel free to experiment, as long as we like ourselves when we go out the house others will like us too.
That’s something we can take away for all the music festivals when we’re planning out outfits. If we feel comfortable then we’ll look it too. Bring on the summer!
