When it comes to making an impression, you cannot beat the colour red to signal your arrival. There is a reason red is the traffic light colour that stops vehicles. Red outfits stop everything – humans included – and leave some of us shocked with envy.
What I like about red is that it suits people with dark hair, blonde hair and even auburn hair and you can chose from a scarle, a dark rusty red, or a reddy pink hue. It seems like the celebrities are going all out for scarlet right now, which is one of the bravest, but most rewarding colours, to wear. Here’s the best ways the stars are making it wearable.
(1) Kylie Jenner
Kylie is fast becoming the most stylish of the entire Kardashian / Jenner clan. She’s not afraid to experiment with different looks, whereas most of her older sisters wear things that are cutout and bodycon and usually by expensive designer brands.
What Kylie does well with this look is make it all about the accessories. The red midi dress catches the eye and then you can see her gorgeous ankle boots, handbag and sunglasses. I like the dress for it’s simplicity.
(2) Rachel McAdams
Rachel is currently promoting the film Southpaw, in which she stars with Jake Gyllenhaal above. I wonder if they noticed her at the ESPY awards in LA in that statement red trouser suit? People would have seen her walking the red carpet for miles…and still have approved.
When a trouser suit fits you this well, you should feel free wear it in any colour you want. It’s about the fit first and the colour second. However, the Rochelle Humes white trouser suit from Very may be a less daring start with the trouser suit look and it does fit fantastically, with it’s super flattering jacket that nips in at the waist.
(3) Rita Ora
When you’re the new judge and it’s the first day of X Factor auditions, an attention grabbing outfit is a must! I’m not sure about the boots but the red mini dress with belt has a retro vibe to it. Personally, I’d wear the dress with some gold sandals.
(4) Kate, The Duchess of Cambridge
When the Duchess of Cambridge wears a trend it sells out in minutes. It’s what’s known as the Kate effect. She made red, what can be a show-off colour, look almost understated at the Wimbledon tennis champion. The secret is the shape of the dress – having a skater skirt adds a cute edge. Check out the South Ponte fit and flare dress at Very for a strikingly similar look.
(5) Lindsey Vonn, American skier
Sportsmen and sportswomen don’t always get it right with their clothes as they spend so much time in sportswear but skier Lindsey Vonn was made for this dress. A traditional red maxi dress might blend into the carpet so I like that she’s gone for a red maxi dress that shows some flesh. However, I do think you’d need a tan to wear something like this.
What was your favourite look? These are red outfits to make us all blush…with pride. They’d probably also make others blush…with envy!
