As the nights get darker, nothing brightens the place up like a treasure trove of sequins here and a beautiful explosion of metallics there. Inspired by the New Romantics, today’s edit is brimming with exactly that – enough sparkles and shimmers to rival 1980’s night clubs. While the trend-setting New Romantics kicked back against the anti-fashion image of the punks, they re-instated a notion of pure luxe with swishy fringing, batwing sleeves and slinky foil-finish fabrics. Today, the vibe lives on across the runways of AW15 and now, in our party-wear too. Here’s my top three pieces from Very’s wonderland of molten metal fabrics and stand-out sequins.
Throwback to the dress-up decade in this lurex maxi dress by Vila. Crafted from a slinky, shimmery fabric with a leg-baring side split and cut-out back, this piece promises not to go unnoticed in a crowd of LBDs. Its edgy-meets-elegant design is the very definition of New Romantic styling and it promises to pay party-time dividends for years to come. Just add strappy heels, an oversized clutch and big hair to polish this OOTN.

Re-power your basic cami top for party season, with this sequin bodycon midi skirt by Vila. The smart office pencil skirt takes on a glam rock-inspired guise with this piece, which U-turns from the classic staple, adding a glittery aesthetic with all-over sequins. Just tuck in your cami, add lace-up heels and finish with a clutch. Big hair + smoky eyes = done.

All roads lead to effortless cool with this ensemble. The ultimate stripe tease, this faux fur collar works from day-to-dark – it’s the non-glitzy way to tap into the New Romantics trend. Wear it around your neck in the daytime or slink it over your shoulders come cocktail hour. I love how the fusion of fabrics – wet-look, chiffon and faux fur – work together to create a tactile, tough-girl look for twilight hour in this look.

And that concludes my top three. Underscored by a few Duran Duran riffs and we’re basically in Covent Garden, drinking wine in The Blitz – with an added touch of AW15’s contemporary charm, of course. There’s plenty more where these came from, too – click on over to the New Romantics store to shop the edit :).
