The Olivier Awards are like the Oscars of the theatre world. All of the West End stars gather together at the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate a successful year and honour the most popular shows. And just because the stars had a night off performing, it didn’t mean they looked any less glamorous. In fact, everyone made an effort to look their absolute best and the red carpet was one never-ending procession of gorgeous maxi dresses.
If you have a summer ball, end-of-term party or work night out soon then we can look at what the actresses wore to these awards to get some inspiration. As you’ll see, there are lots of ways to make a statement at a formal party right now, whether you like colour, monochrome or floral dresses.
Let’s have a closer look at the gorgeous gowns:
She’s one of the best British actresses around right now and when she’s not working she looks gorgeous too. Her 20s style fringed maxi dress made a style statement as it’s pretty but also very unique. You won’t find many other people at a party are dressed like you when you wear something like this, which is always a good thing! The added bonus of fringing is that it moves when you do on the dancefloor – it’s fun to wear.
Wow, talk about making an entrance! Britain’s Got Talent is back on our TV screens soon and Amanda Holden wants us all to know she’s back on the box in a yellow dress. It certainly worked – yellow always makes an impact. The floral detail at the neck is a nod to this season’s floral trend.
Thought theatre was boring? Think again! The Game Of Thrones actress shows it’s cool, stylish and modern in her dramatic red maxi dress. When you look closely, you can see that it also has a semi-transparent look thanks to mesh fabric. We think it’s stunning – what do you think?
If you want to get noticed, wear white! The singer looked sensational in a white maxi dress – everyone stopped and stared! The bardot neckline shows off her super toned shoulders and she looks sleek and sophisticated. This is a great dress to pack for a summer holiday as it would take you from beach to bar beautifully.
The Strictly Come Dancing runner up rocked this season’s spring florals trend and looked feminine. Her floral maxi dress has flattering short sleeves to enhance her arms while the keyhole cutout is cute and flirtatious. This dress would never date – you could pull it out in autumn or next spring and still feel pretty and stylish in it.
She’s proved she can act on TV with roles in Dr Who and Secret Diary of a Call Girl and now her stage play is getting excellent reviews too. No wonder she looks so cool and confident. Her strapless black maxi dress is just the right mix of flattering and edgy with its feather embellishment. It’s a dress that makes people look twice.
Tracy Ann Oberman
The former Eastenders actress was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and although she didn’t win, she looked like a winner in her sensational figure hugging black maxi dress. You can tell she’s on her feet all day as her figure looks super slim and she’s proud of that, which is a reason for opting for such a close-fitting dress. The elegant shape makes it look expensive so less is more when it comes to accessories with a dress like this – a pair of diamond ear-rings and a pendant necklace will do!
The British actress looked lovely and spring-like in a loose, floaty printed maxi dress, accessorised with a thick gold bangle. As it’s April and we’re in the UK, you can never be sure of the weather so a long sleeve maxi dress that’s loose and allows you to breathe is a good shout as it can keep the chill off and keep you cool – it’s a smart dress and looks effortlessly elegant.
