Style Steal: Victoria’s Secret Models’ Paris Fashion Week Looks

Paris Fashion Week is the most flamboyant of them all with dreamy, floaty maxi dresses offsetting edgy mesh fabric bodysuits. It’s all about the drama! And the look is kept up 24/ 7 – even when the models aren’t on the catwalks. They can’t afford to spoil the illusion!

Victoria’s Secret Models Doutzen Kroes and Alessandra Ambrosio are perfect examples of this. They turned heads as they arrived to get ready for the Balmain show. This is how models do casual wear:

Doutzen’s look (below) makes use of one of the key pieces for Autumn – the military jacket. There’s a couple at Very but the most popular and most eye catching is the V by by Very military jacket. It’s the ideal length to wear with a pair of super skinny jeans as it falls to just above the waist to make your legs look longer. The V by Very Addison super skinny jeans would work well for this look. But no supermodel could be seen without accessories. It’s the caged sandals that make this outfit super glamorous and Doutzen’s shoes are very similar to the Carvela metal trim gold caged sandals. Top with the Michael Kors oversized sunglasses for the ultimate in off duty cool.

Now let’s have a closer look at Alessandra. Her outfit is lighter to make the most of her sunkissed summer skin but it’s appropriate for Autumn as the jacket protests against the chill.

To follow in her stylish footsteps, start with a great pair of skinny jeans. The V by Very bodyshaping skinny jeans help you to get that supermodel shape without even trying making legs look slimmer and leaner. They’re also a good colour match to Alessandra’s pair. Talking of colour, notice that she’s matched  her shoes to her jacket and you can do the same with the Carvela kestral point toe high heels and the V by Very lace bomber jacket which has a fabulous texture. It’s the texture that makes Alessandra’s jacket stand out – Autumn is a time to indulge in fabrics.

Milan Fashion Week: Celeb FROW Style

Milan Fashion Week follows London Fashion Week so it has a lot to live up to! Its appeal is that the shows feature beautiful tailoring with luxurious fabrics with Italian designers experimenting with new prints and new cottons and silks.

Celebrities love looking at ways they can stand out from the crowd and so the fashion shows have attracted a number of well-known famous faces. The FROW is almost as well-dressed as the models on the catwalk sas not only have the celebs made the effort to get on a plane to attend the shows, they’ve clearly spent ages thinking about what they’d wear knowing that the cameras are always on the FROW.

Want an outfit that gets you noticed for the right reasons? Let’s have a look at what some of the celebs wore on the FROW:

Ellie Goulding

Ellie looked bright and beautiful in the eye-catching colours of red and white. The red dress is made out of a lovely silky material and the white jacket appears to be made from plastic. The white sunglasses add the A’list edge – she looks fabulous!

Bella and Gigi Hadid

The supermodel sisters look as good on the FROW as they do on the catwalk. Bella has a more edgy style with a crop top and a leather skirt, while older sister Gigi opted for classic tailoring with formal black trousers and a smart blouse. Which sister’s style do you prefer?

Lottie Moss

Kate Moss’s younger sister has inherited her sister’s innate sense of style. Her black maxi dress featured both a floral print and a gorgeous lace fabric. Italians are setting the standard high in terms of colour and prints.

Olivia Palermo

The American socialite is the perfect example of smart casual in all situations and at Milan she erred on the smarter side of causal. However, she shows that you can wear a suit anywhere and you can make it look cooler for day with sunglasses and flat shoes. I love her style!

Jourdan Dunn

Jourdan Dunn made prints work for her by wearing a mini skirt and showing off her lovely long legs. If you want to enhance a part of your body that you love then wear a print. The lace up ankle boots help to lengthen her legs even further.

Sofia Richie

Justin Bieber’s ex girlfriend is moving on by looking incredible in Milan. Looking fantastic is the best form of revenge to an ex and her black lace dress looks divine. She won’t be single for long!

Adriana Lima

The Victoria’s Secret model looked chic and elegant in a cut-out white midi dress. Monochrome is always an eye-catching look and Adriana wears it well. The slicked back hair adds even more drama to the look as it makes the lines of the dress stand out more. Bodycon dresses are perfect for the party season!

Who did you think looked the most fashionable in Milan?

From Catwalk to Your Collection With V by Very

Fashion week’s fresh silhouettes and fabrics have a knack for leaving us with a thirst for all-new-everything. What quenching news then, that Very (and in particular, V by Very) has a line-up of runway-inspired pieces you’ll want to wear on repeat, all season long. Key themes for your Pinterest board: blush pink, gothic glamour, heritage punk and a coat (because, you know, cold). Here’s a little teaser of the fashion coming your way soon.

Blush Pink

From catwalk…

It would almost seem we were viewing the models through rose-tinted lenses on the AW16 catwalks, as delicate shades of blush proved unmissable. Designers brought its feminine appeal to life through swathes of liquid silk fabrics (Roksanda), ethereal ruffles and frills (Alexander McQueen) and shine-bright sequins (Holly Fulton).

To your collection…

Work the blush-toned theme into your wear-everywhere collection with lightweight knits, wide-leg trousers and 3D florals.

PicMonkey Collage (1).jpg

Gothic Glamour

From catwalk…

While whispers of gothic drama have permeated fashion of late, the catwalks brought full-on rebellious glamour to the forefront. This was seen through off-beat silhouettes (Christopher Kane), sheer panelling (Mulberry) and rich black velvet (Topshop Unique).

To your collection…

Go hell for leather with PU dresses and fierce block heels or tap into the softer side with romantic ruffles, feather-weight fabrics and draped silhouettes. We take our sartorial cues from Game of Thrones’ Khaleesi. Platinum blonde hair optional, leave the dragon at home.

PicMonkey Collage (2)

Heritage Punk

From catwalk…

Iconic punk style is updated with British heritage influences this season. Mulberry’s catwalks showcased tactile checked fabrics and ruffled shirting, punctuated with studs and braces, while Le Kilt brought Scottish heritage to the forefront with tartan mini skirts.

To your collection…

Anything-but-dainty block heeled boots and checked fabrics are the order of the day here. Subvert the attitude-packed vibe with smart tailored silhouettes, or go grunge with fluid fabrics and faux leather jackets.

PicMonkey Collage (3).jpg

From catwalk…

Of course the onset of autumn and winter calls for a coat update. One you can layer over everything will be a power player in your wardrobe for the foreseeable. On the catwalk, Burberry adorned the iconic trench with 70’s snake print, while Prada’s patchwork of rich brocades were impossible not to take note of. Luxed-up leather with hits of colour were the order of the day for Celine and the indisputable stars of the show were bomber jackets, macs and military coats.

To your collection…

Alongside a host of trench coats, leather-look jackets and macs, V by Very works all the catwalk trends into your outwear edit in the form of 80’s leopard print, faux fur fabrics and sporty bomber jackets.

London Fashion Week SS17: Celebs on the FROW

London Fashion Week is more creative than any of the other global fashion weeks in Milan, Paris and New York. It’s also way more star-studded as celebrities from the music and acting worlds flock to the FROW to check out the new season trends and dress in their best outfits from this season. If a designer has loaned them a dress for an awards ceremony or party then they have to show their support by attending a show and other lesser-known celebs are trying to get in with the designer for a future loan. It’s a circus, but a glamorous one!

It’s both fun and useful to see what the celebs wore to the shows as these are current creations and we can copy them right now! We have to wait for a while before we can start to imitate what we see on the catwalks, and who has time to do that? There were tons of well-dressed celebs every day, but these are my top 10:

Victoria Beckham at Vogue’s Voice of a Century book launch

Victoria Beckham cosied up to British Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman while looking dressed for business in a blue trouser suit. It’s power dressing at it’s finest! Trouser suits are the new jumpsuits when it comes to party fashion.

Olivia Palermo at Pringle

The New York socialite and former star of The City looked ready for autumn in her seasonal brown knitwear and midi skirt. Olivia is the Queen of dressed down chic as she looks smart without looking as if she’s tried to hard. This outfit suits her perfectly.

Lily James at Burberry

The Cinderella actress took a bit of a risk in this silk blue maxi dress as it looks a bit like nightwear, but she could always sleep in it if she gets tired. It’s refreshing to see a celeb do something a bit different though and she adds bed-hair for the full effect. If you’re going to try a trend then embrace it as you need to do the whole thing or nothing at all.

Cara Delevingne at Burberry

This could also double as a very cool Halloween outfit as Cara looked spookily pretty at the Burberry show. Her black mini dress shows off her lovely legs, but it’s the make-up that adds the drama with a lot of eyeliner. What do you think?

Jenna Coleman at Burberry

Jenna’s starring in one of the most popular TV shows of the moment, Victoria, and she’s glowing. I love the dark red trousers, which are a bit different from what everyone else was wearing and they’d be brilliant for the party season as you could go from work to a party in them without having to get changed. The navy coat goes perfectly.

Donna Air at Burberry

Now it’s autumn, it’s time to get out the leather look leggings again as Donna looked fabulous in hers. When worn with ankle boots and a formal black coat, you’re ready for anything in leather leggings.

Alexa Chung at Burberry

Alexa looked very sparkly and Christmassy in a sequin dress. We saw at the Emmys that sequins are making a comeback and they certainly brightened up Alexa’s look. When you’re wearing sequins, you never have to worry about accessories as they have enough shine on their own.

Poppy Delevingne at Erdem

Cara’s older sister Poppy also channeled Autumn with her LFW outfit and I loved the brown suede skirt, which would look gorgeous with boots all season long. Stripes are always cool and I like how Poppy’s gone for grey and red instead of the traditional blue and white. It’s very chic!

Daisy Lowe at Christopher Kane

The new star of Strictly Come Dancing looked elegant and sophisticated in a black pleated midi skirt, which she wore with a white t-shirt. The skirt is very formal, but the t-shirt makes it suitable for everyday wear and Daisy looks very cool in this outfit. Daisy makes her own fashion rules and pulls it off as she has attitude.

Jourdan Dunn at LOVE Magazine x Marc Jacobs’ party

Wow, talk about colour! It’s nice to see that colour, along with sequins, is making a comeback. Jourdan’s multi-colour mini dress shows off her long legs and makes her feel ready to party. You can see by the pout on her face that she’s happy with what she’s wearing and that it gives her confidence. Colourful outfits cheer everyone up.

I can’t believe fashion week is over! Has it given you any inspiration?

How To ‘Work’ This Season’s Hottest Trends

Sometimes, dressing for work can feel like a chore. Now, it doesn’t have to!

We’re here to help with all the latest trends to carry you through from 9-5 ‘til nighttime. After all, it makes sense to spend your hard-earned cash on pieces you can wear for work or play, doesn’t it?

Military is making a comeback, so we’re giving this V by Very double-breasted crop blazer  our full attention! Metallic gold buttons give a nod to the nautical trend, while the sophisticated black hue ensures that this blazer is boardroom-ready too. Whether you’re marching through meetings or soldiering on towards the weekend, this jacket is a work wardrobe must-have. We’ll be wearing it with skinny trousers and a fitted shirt for a sophisticated finish.

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 11.53.46[6] copy

For weekend wow-factor, this jacket will look gorgeous paired with ripped skinnies and heels for relaxed drinks with the girls, or dress it down with boyfriend jeans and trainers when you’re feeling casual.

If you want a more feminine look, this V by Very peplum jacket  is classy enough for the office, and it comes in a dark shade of navy for a preppy twist. Stretch summer into autumn by teaming it with white skinny trousers and a cami, or pair it with darker hues when you’re ready to embrace the cooler climes.

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 11.54.29[4] copy

When the weekend arrives, we’ll be toning this jacket down with our favourite indigo skinnies and tan ballet pumps, swapping for over-the-knee boots when the weather turns frosty!

We’ve saved the best ‘til last…

Every girl needs a killer pair of patterned pants in her wardrobe, so now you can keep your work look in check with these V by Very gingham skinny trousers . The perfect office to off-duty piece, you can let them do all the work by teaming them with a simple black shirt and ballet flats.

Own the after-work drinks look by swapping your formal footwear for a chic pair of strappy heels. For casual-cool, simply team these trews with a chunky knit instead.

How will you be refreshing your working wardrobe this season?

Emmy Awards 2016: Red Carpet Glamour

The Emmy Awards are the Oscars of America’s TV industry. But with so many gripping  and addictive dramas on television at the moment, the competition is really tough. Anyone could have won!

Therefore, all the actors and actresses dressed like they were winners as they didn’t want to go on stage to accept an award looking anything less than their best. There were sequins, there were metallic colours and there were gorgeous deep reds and blues – they were full on party dresses. With the Christmas party season just two months away, it’s a great time to start thinking about party dresses and the TV stars are the perfect inspiration.

Let’s have a closer look:

Emilia Clarke

Game of Thrones won Best Drama for the second year running and now has the world-record for the most amount of Emmy wins ever. Emilia looks ready for the podium in a strapless beige maxi dress that gives her a lovely hourglass shape. It’s not complicated but it’s very pretty.

Olivia Culpo

The beauty paegant veteran has a wardrobe of beautiful dresses and she picked a fabulous one for the Emmy’s. Her strapless dress is super flattering as it has a tight bodice top that slims her waist before she enhances her hips with a prom style skirt. The barely there sandals complete the look and she even matches her nail polish to the dress. It’s all about the detail!

Sofia Vergara

The Modern Family actress is feminine and fabulous and she always dresses to show that off. She wears dresses that show off her gym-honed body and it’s hardly surprising as she’s worked hard on that bod. Her one shoulder maxi dress shows it off perfectly and the cream colour gets her noticed.

Emily Ratajowski

The blurred lines model is the third celeb so far wearing a strapless maxi dress – is there a trend going on here? I love the rich blue colour of her dress as it looks luxurious and it contrasts perfectly with her dark complexion. What do you think?

Priyanka Chopra

The Quantico actress had one of the most attention-grabbing outfits of the night in a red maxi dress. The loose, floaty material meant she could twirl it around. That would be so much fun on the dancefloor! There are rumours that she got close to Taylor Swift’s ex Tom Hiddleston at the Emmy’s after-party – watch this space! They’d certainly make a beautiful couple.

Claire Danes

The Homeland actress was a golden goddess on the red carpet! The gold dress enhances the golden colour of her skin and she looks radiant. Gold is always a big one during Awards season.

America Ferrera

The Ugly Betty actress certainly wasn’t ugly in a sequinned navy dress with red stripes. She’s got the beaming smile that you only get from feeling confident with what you’re wearing. Sequin dresses always get me in the mood to party!

Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten also wore a sequin dress, but hers also had a plunging V-neck to show off her chest. She knows what she likes about her body and so she dresses to show that off. Notice that she’s following the rule of covering her legs if she’s showing off her cleavage.

Heidi Klum

The America’s Got Talent host showed off her supermodel credentials in a white maxi dress. It’s a bold outfit with all the slits, but she pulls it off as she’s holding her head high, daring people to challenge her. She’s a great example of what you can get away with if you wear it with attitude!

Joanne Froggatt

Downton Abbey actress Joanne Froggatt showed that the Brits are just as good as the Americans at dressing for award ceremonies. She’s also gone strapless in a strapless black maxi dress. She looks chic and sophisticated and you can tell that she’s going to do well in America now that Downton is over. Not only is she a top actress, but she really dresses the part.

Which party dress do you like most?

V By Very’s London Fashion Week Party: Celeb Looks

To start London Fashion Week in style, Very took over a central London building, got model of the moment Daisy Lowe on the DJ decks and welcomed lots of gorgeous celebrities to party with us!

Daisy is modelling the new V by Very collection and wore a lovely summery dress to the party that got all the photographers snapping away. You couldn’t help but look twice at her fabulous figure, honed by rehearsals for Strictly Come Dancing. If she dances as good as she looks, she’s going to win the glitter ball trophy!

At the party, Daisy wore the V by Very vintage floral ruffle dress, which is loose and floaty and perfect for a hot September’s day. It’s one of those dresses that would look lovely with a chunky knit and thick tights so you could wear it all year round – it’s so pretty, just like Daisy herself.

However, Daisy isn’t just a pretty face as she kept the party going by picking some classics for everyone to dance to. The night took the form of a classic cocktail party with drinks and tasty canapes, which fuelled everyone’s gossip and dancing. And talking of dancing, ex-Strictly star Georgia May Foote attended looking bold and beautiful in a rainbow multi-coloured dress.

Meanwhile Made in Chelsea star Rosie Fortescue proudly dressed in V by Very, wearing the V by Very stud ruffle tea dress, and said filming’s started for the next season already. We cannot wait!

Model Portia Freeman also wore V by Very, showing us all how to rock a jumpsuit with attitude. She’s in the V by Very cold shoulder stripe jumpsuit.

One of the highlights of the night for most people was a selfie cube, which was full of mirrors and lights and like a party within a party. Donna Air, looking girly and feminine in a printed pink dress stepped into it for some Instagram action.

And when the gossip and dancing was over, we got to look at some of the fabulous new V by Very items such as the V by Very zig zag sequin bodycon knitted dress, which is perfect for the party season.

What do you think of the outfit that Daisy wore to the party? Look out for her modelling the new-season collection as she wears the clothes well!

Its bright red hue, frilled trim and swishy skirt are sure to turn heads on the dance floor, and the off the shoulder cut is what the catwalks crave right now. We’re keeping it simple with two part heels, but try adding a metallic clutch for extra polished points.

Next, it’s the world of function-ready fashion, (think office parties or a friends 30th). These events don’t come around often so you should make a statement when they do, which is where V by Very’s embellished hi-lo dress comes in. Crystals cover the top to add impact to your occasion edit, while a dip-back hem works with floaty fabric and a fresh ivory hue to channel ethereal chic. With jewellery taken care of, all that’s missing is court shoes and a patent clutch bag!

Its swing shape and high neck are ticking all the right boxes for us, and a lacy trim works with the bright white hue to lend loads of luxe appeal to your look. Nailing The Just-Left-The-Gym Look

But it can be tricky walking the line between the dos and don’ts of the trend, and that’s where we come in with your guide to Nailing The Just-Left-The-Gym-Look.

Picture the scene, you’ve spent your weekday mornings unwinding at yoga or upping your BPM at circuits, and now it’s time for work. In times gone by this would be a nightmare, involving a hectic dash to the showers, panicking about how creased your clothes have become in your bag and a finally arriving at the office a deep shade of beetroot. But thanks to the athleisure theme of the season, it’s a dream! Look to our first outfit as proof!

Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 10.49.36

Finished with a pair of Converse, this OOTD works best on casual Friday’s when you still want to score style points!

When the weekend rolls around, the athleisure trend comes into its own. Now, you can sleep in ‘til noon, before heading out looking like you’ve just spent Saturday morning sweating it out at spin class!

Celeb Style Steal: Copy Kendall Jenner’s Fashion Week Style

With London Fashion Week bringing the capital to life from 16 – 20 September, we’ll see what all the new trends are and get inspiration from what the celebs are wearing on the FROW. But if you don’t want to wait that long for the new trends then we need to have a look at what the models and celebs are wearing right now.

Kendall Jenner, who is both a model and a celeb, did New York Fashion Week before London and packed a wardrobe for work, play and everything in-between. So whether you’re looking for a fashionable, on-trend and super cute casual outfit, party look or work outfit, Kendall is a fantastic inspiration. Her outfits are chic, laid-back and so wearable!

(1) Casual

When she was running between castings and fittings, Kendall turned to an outfit that was comfortable but still very cool. A beige skirt is a wardrobe staple for Autumn and the V By Very large pocket a-line skirt is a classic example of something that will last you all season and into spring too. Kendall gives it a modern twist with some gorgeous purple boots, which really remind me of the Clarks Kendra porter heeled ankle boots. Such a cool mix of colours needs a simple top like the V by Very perfect scoop neck t-shirt. Finish with a cute shoulder bag that adds a touch of luxe to the look – the Dune mini jewel embellished clutch is perfect. Now you’re ready for anything!

(2) Party

Kendall has a tomboy chic style and brings attitude to evening events in trousers or jumpsuits. She looks and feels like she means business in pieces that are both fashionable and fit her perfectly. The bomber jacket falls to her waist, so it flatters her shape and helps to create more curves, while the black trousers fall to just above her ankles to enhance her long legs. To recreate this look, we could try the V by Very bomber jacket with the V by Very D-ring trousers. The Dune Pembleton leather high ankle boots complete the look as heels make everyone look more fierce!

(3) Work

On the catwalk, Kendall completely transforms her look, which is why she’s such a good model. Although she doesn’t wear many dresses in real-life, they really do suit her. Brown and cream coloured prints are key this autumn, so if you like to dress up to work then you could impress the boss with a tea dress like the Lost Ink Alicia Frill & Feather dress. To complete the girly look, you can’t beat a chic pair of Mary Janes. I love the Clarks Kendra Gaby Mary Jane shoes for their vintage appeal and block heels look so good while being so easy to wear!

Which of the three looks do you like the most?

V by Very’s Seven Jeans For Seven Days

We do love a bit of denim, it’s endlessly versatile, effortless to wear and comes in so many different styles, but what if you want to spend your week in jeans? Help is at hand with V by Very’s Seven Jeans For Seven Days!

Ella mid

Come Monday, everything that can go wrong will – but that doesn’t mean your wardrobe should, so reach for a pair of Ella mid-rise skinnies! Their classic silhouette is the definition of fuss free, and they sit just right on your hips to flatter your figure. Team with court shoes and a shirt for a truly chic look.

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 10.30.56

Congratulations! You’ve made it to Tuesday! Things are less hectic so you can afford to add a little catwalk inspiration to your look with a pair of Macys! Their double waistband and button fly bring a little boho inspo to your OOTD, while the dark wash will always be a firm fave. A floaty blouse and waves in your hair are all you need here!

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 10.29.25

When it comes to hump-day, easy styling is essential. Look to a pair of Charley jeggings to see you through the midweek slump! Stretchy fabric and a high rise offer all the comfort that we love from leggings, with the polished appeal and coverage of jeans, what’s not to love? A fine knit and ballet flats keep your style on point.

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 10.33.47

It’s almost the end of the week and you’ve got date night planned after hours, so you reach for a pair of dark wash Ella high-waist skinny jeans to stay sleek from day to dark. The high rise smooths your silhouette for instant hourglass appeal, and they hug your curves for a flirty, yet sophisticated finish. We think they work best with strappy heels and an embellished cami top, just add a pop of berry lipstick for a dramatic twist!

By Friday, you’re counting down the seconds until five so you can head out with the girls, master desk to dance floor dressing with a pair of Addison’s in your repertoire! Their super skinny cut and deep blue wash perfect your pins in all-day comfort thanks to their stretchy fabric. Simply swap your court shoes for sandals when the clock strikes cocktails!

For a Saturday spent on the High Street, or people watching over coffee, keep things casual with the boyfriend fit of Kayden! The dark wash works with anything in your wardrobe, while their slim style is still figure flattering without being too form fitting. Try tucking in a high neck knit and teaming with trainers to channel this season’s throwback trend.

Your Sunday style should be as laid back as the day itself! So reach for a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans! Their loose fit and distressed details lend an urban edge to your off-duty edit, and when you roll up the hems, they’re an even more laid back pair! Try half tucking in your T-shirt for a model-off-duty inspired look.

Do you wear denim as much as we do? Which pairs will you be picking up from our latest edit?

Emma Raine, fashion writer for Very.

Autumn Shop: The Blush Trend

Made you blush!

This season we’ve got a huge crush on blush tones with must-have pieces going sweet in sugary shades. Keep cosy and cute in our fave cuddly picks from the lush new label, V by Very. We’re tickled pink with this dreamy AW selection…

Work the trend with touches of grey and metallic for an edgier twist. We show you how a pop of pink can perk up your cold-weather wardrobe, transforming you into a beautiful English rose.

Screen Shot 2016-08-17 at 10.50.08

This stunning fluted sleeve jumper is a lesson in easy elegance – the flowing shape of the flared bell sleeves and deep V-neckline bring doses of boho appeal to a casual look, while revealing your sultry side.

Wear this feminine and folksy-style knit with distressed jeans to soften the rock-chick, rebellious vibe. Accentuate the collarbone with a simple and delicate gold-tone necklace for a hint of hippie.

Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 11.40.19 Screen Shot 2016-08-17 at 10.50.27

Sporting the of-the-moment athleisure craze, this sweat strikes the right balance between urban and girly. The relaxed fit is made for casual outings, while the ribbed detail stops it from looking too boyish. We’ll be wearing this with tapered joggers and a pair of cool kicks when comfort is key on weekends.

Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 11.46.46

If you’re not a pink fiend, then this grey sweatshirt will tap into the sports-luxe trend, too. For a dressier spin, work the season’s love of modern metallics by partnering with a high-shine pleated skirt in space-age silver.

Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 11.37.33 Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 11.37.42

Wear this boyfriend coat over your all-grey outfit to dip your toes in the blush crush. Featuring cool colour-blocking detail, the pink patchwork offers a flash of feminine style to the androgynous look. Grab a pearlescent pink metallic clutch for a futuristic twist on the typically girly colour.

New York Fashion Week: Celebs On The FROW In Black

New York Fashion Week is like the pre-party to London Fashion Week. It’s the first week where we all get excited about fashion by seeing what the models and front row celebs in New York are wearing and then it intensifies when the fashion circus moves to London straight afterwards.

If New York is anything to go by, we could be in for a lot of black this season. It’s a universally flattering colour and it’s also very versatile as you can get so many shapes of black dresses. This year, the trend is for loose floaty shapes and lots of lace as opposed to plain, straight styles.

Let’s have a closer look at some of the fabulous fashion week black dresses:

Kourtney Kardashian

The eldest Kardashian sister looked stunning in a black party dress with an asymmetric hem. Now that she’s single after splitting from Scott Disick, Kourtney’s having a lot of fun. She’s been attending more parties than usual and she’s got her eye in when it comes to what to wear as her new wardrobe is to do for.

Kim Kardashian

Kim’s always pushing boundaries when it comes to fashion and she certainly did that with a black lace maxi dress that completely showed off her curves. She wears it with attitude and walks with her head held high and makes it work for her. What do you think?

Mary J Blige

Mary J Blige has really found her fashion sense after years of wearing street clothing. The black midi dress that she wore to the Harper’s ICONS party was stylish, sophisticated and made her feel confident as she has a big smile on her face. The feeling of looking good and knowing it is the best!

Nina Agdal

She’s dating Leonardo DiCaprio and it’s not hard to tell what he sees in her as she looked classy and sophisticated in a long-sleeve black maxi dress. The red lipstick and side-parting adds to the elegant look.

Alexa Chung

Alexa was one of the few celebs to wear something that wasn’t black and she really stood out in a yellow dress. It would have stood out no matter what others were wearing as it made her look like an old-fashioned Hollywood film star. This is a great dress for Christmas parties as it’s a timeless classic.

Neve Campbell

Actress Neve Campbell attended quite a few shows so she wore a black midi dress that was smart but comfortable enough for her to move around town on a hot late summer’s day. The neckline makes the dress look different from any other black dress and that’s  what you need to take a black dress to the next level and make people look twice.

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly used her dog to create a monochrome effect and her sunglasses were white too, which added to her dramatic look. The black prom dress style really flattered her figure and made her waist look tiny. No wonder she’s on E!’s Fashion Police – she knows what to wear to make her look pretty.

Which celeb looked the best in your opinion? Remember that London Fashion Week starts on 16 September and we’ll have all the gossip and fashion close-ups for you from that.

TV Choice Awards: Copy The White Dress Trend

The TV Choice Awards signify the end of summer and the start of the Autumn party season. As all the new series of shows like Strictly Come Dancing, X Factor and Great British Bake Off start in the Autumn, it makes sense to do it at this time of year when TV feels really exciting and fresh.

It’s also a fabulous excuse for the celebrities to dress up and catch up on all the summer gossip. As there haven’t been too many parties over the summer, everyone makes an effort to show that they’re ready to go back to work and dress to impress. It’s a great indication of what party outfits are cool for Autumn and one trend did emerge from the night as several celebrities wore white dresses.

Lydia Rose Bright looked feminine and pretty in a white lace dress while Holly looked like she meant business in a white midi dress that’s perfect for both work and play. Katie Price showed off her curves in a bodycon maxi dress and put on a pout for the cameras as she looked great and she knew it.

Seeing all the stars in their white dresses shows there are several ways to wear white dresses and that everyone can wear the trend as there’s a style to suit all personalities and body types. The benefits of a white dress are that it really enhances any tan that you’ve picked up over the summer months and it’s so bright that you stand out for the right reasons if others are wearing darker dresses.

Let’s start with Holly’s smart white dress, which has long sleeves to keep you comfortable now the nights are getting colder. The V by Very fluted sleeve dress makes sleeves it’s unique feature and those make your arms look slimmer as they flare out. Alternatively, the Rochelle Humes tuxedo blazer dress shows a hint of cleavage like Holly’s dress and it’s sharp lines make you look fierce and powerful.

Or if it’s a maxi dress you’re after then you need one with a bit of detail. Katie Price’s had an open back detail, but it’s also nice to have the detail on the front so that everyone spots it, just like you see on the V by Very Aztec embroidered maxi dress.

Or maybe you want a white dress that has stand-out material as well as a vibrant colour. Lydia Bright’s dress had a gorgeous colour and texture and reminds me of the Miss Selfridge lace cold-shoulder pencil dress. The lace will feel lovely next to your skin and you’ll feel stunning when you look at yourself in the mirror.

Which white dress do you like the most?

A sultry take on a cold-season staple, this ribbed jumper is fitted to show off your figure and flares into a feminine peplum hem to create an enviable hour-glass silhouette.

Rock this pretty knit with biker trews to toughen the look.

V by Very Designer on the Journey of Your Clothes

It’s a dream job for many: travelling through time zones for cultural inspiration, gaining the first glimpse of new-season silhouettes and fabrics, and scouring markets for one-off finds. V by Very Designer Holly Clare is living that dream – I caught up with her to discover where she finds inspiration, how she got into fashion design and how your clothes go from first sketch to final stitch…

photo 1
Holly Clare designing for V by Very

First of all, where do you get your design inspiration from?

We find inspiration from loads of sources; vintage markets, global shopping, runways, magazines, popular culture, celebrity culture…

How long roughly does it take to design an item?

Roughly, it takes eight months from trend concept to delivery. However, we are working hard to react faster and smarter, so in some areas we can go from sketch to delivery in six weeks.

What steps are involved in designing a product?

We begin by researching current trends within the market place and then start creating mood boards, looking at suitable colour palettes based on our findings. Next, we shop the trend boards, visit vintage markets to discover key shapes and prints and we take trips to overseas cities of interest for inspiration.

Once we have a firm idea of what we’re aiming for, we sketch out the item and include swatches of fabric, before visiting our fabrics in FE to ensure the design interpretation is correct. Once we receive the sample, we get approval from the heads of our department and then the product goes online for the customer to buy.

How did you get into fashion design?

I’ve always had a keen interest in fashion. With a love for shopping and creating my own individual look at school, this led me into a fashion design course and it all went from there really.

What’s the best bit about your job?

Creating a garment that loads of people purchase and then seeing it worn in ‘real life’. Travel is an amazing buzz too!

GQ Men Of The Year Awards: Celebrity Style

The GQ Men of The Year awards is traditionally the first major celebrity event of the Autumn season. It pulls in A’list stars  – both male and female – from the US as well as the UK and leads the way for events like the London Fashion Week and the London Film Festival. Autumn is a fun season!

The GQ awards set the standard high as musicians, actors and actresses, models and TV presenters came to present awards, win awards and just enjoy a fabulous night out at the Tate Modern Gallery in London with a three-course meal and dancing afterwards until 1am. Who could turn down a party in a modern art gallery?

Let’s have a look at what the female stars wore for some inspiration and then see who won what:

Bella Hadid

She may often be overshadowed by her older sister Gigi, but Bella Hadid looked every inch the glamorous model as she arrived in a long beige maxi dress. The Bardot neckline is so on trend this season! Bella won model of the year and she’s a worthy award winner in that dress.

Ellie Goulding

Ellie has a thing for textured dresses right now as this white mini dress is similar to what she wore to the premiere of Bridget Jones Baby.  The white colour makes people stop and stare and then the embellishment makes people look for longer. You just want to touch a dress like this! At the party, Ellie was spotted chatting to her ex Dougie Poynter – could a reconciliation be on the cards? They did make a cute couple.

Ashley Graham

Plus size model Ashley Graham showed off her hourglass shape in a stunning black maxi dress with a plunging neckline and had men and women looking at her with admiration and envy. She knows what her best assets are and she dresses to show them off. If you’re proud of something about your body, it will make you feel fabulous if you find something to flatter it.

Daisy Lowe

Daisy took a break from Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals to attend the award show so let’s hope it doesn’t hinder her performance at the weekend. If there was a dancing trophy for best dressed then Daisy would have no problem as she looked incredible in a black maxi dress. But does she dance as good as she looks? We’ll find out at the weekend.

Amy Schumer

Amy won GQ Woman of the Year and looked like she meant business in a structured black mini dress. I like the lines on this dress as they’re so sharp and it makes her look cool. confident and in control. The black sandals are a good shout for a mini dress as they give her legs even more length.

Florence Welch

She’s one of the few British singers to conquer the American charts as well as the British charts and that’s partly because she has such a strong sense of identity. Rather than following trends, she sets them. She always goes for vibrant, beautiful and clashing colours and she wouldn’t compromise on that just because she was at a formal awards ceremony. I think the pink maxi dress suits her because she wears it with attitude, What do you think?

Countdown presenter Rachel Riley

The host of the words and numbers quiz Countdown let her hair down for a change. When she’s in the mood to party, she goes for it properly and looked gorgeous in a black dress with tassels. Who knew she had such good legs? You need to wear high heels with a dress like this to help your posture and make your legs look longer and leaner.

Pixie Lott

Pixie’s on stage every night in the Breakfast at Tiffany West End musical so she could only attend the after-party. Still, she made the effort in a cream maxi dress that looked feminine and pretty. Being in the West-End suits her!

Who do you think looked the most glamorous?

And the winners are:

Genius: Ricky Gervais

Designer: Alessandro Michele

Woman: Amy Schumer

Bridget Jones Baby Premiere: Best Dressed

It’s the movie that many Bridget Jones fans thought would never happen. After waiting 12 years since Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, the premiere of Bridget Jones Baby has just taken place in London’s Leicester Square. In the film, Bridget goes on about her love of big pants but there was nothing frumpy in sight at the premiere. There were tons of gorgeous, glamorous dresses on that red carpet!

As most ladies empathise with Bridget, lots of celebs asked for tickets to see the film so there were a lot of stars at the premiere. They all dressed up for the cameras as this was one big girly night out.

If you’ve got a night out with the girls planned or are thinking of planning one, you can look at what these gorgeous celebs wore to the premiere for inspiration:

Renee Zellwegger

The star of the show had to wear a killer dress and boy did she deliver in a black one-shoulder dress with barely there sandals. This is a timeless look and something she can look back on in a few years time with pride. Photos of this premiere are going to be everywhere so she needed a dress that wouldn’t date. Block colours are good for that.

Rochelle Humes

Very designer Rochelle waltzed down the pink carpet looking very glamorous in a  monochrome mini dress. Unlike the unlucky in love Bridget, Rochelle had her lovely husband Marvin by her side who joined her for the girly film – how cute! I love the high  gladiator sandals too.

Una Foden

Una’s releasing a solo single next month and so she’s back on the showbiz party circuit. If her album sounds as good as she looks in a black maxi dress then it will be a massive hit. She filmed the video for the first single in Nashville, America and said it had  folk /  country vibe. Sounds great!
Ellie Goulding

Ellie provided the soundtrack to the Bridget Jones film and you can tell that she feels proud of herself and confident in her black mini skirt and halter neck top. A high waisted skirt like that is really flattering as it cinches in at the waist and gives Ellie hourglass curves. She looked fabulous!
Kimberly Wyatt

Kimberly wore a black jumpsuit, which is equally as smart as a black dress, especially when worn with heels. It stands out for being cool, simple and uncomplicated while still looking like she’s made an effort. A long sleeve jumpsuit is ideal now that the nights are getting chilly and she’ll feel comfortable in this all night long. This outfit shows that you can mix comfort and style!

Zara Holland

Wow! Talk about a statement dress. Zara’s no longer Miss Great Britain but she still knows how to dress for celebrity events. Her blue maxi dress was vibrant and attention-grabbing and made sure she got noticed. When you wear a dress like this you can’t help but feel confident when you look in the mirror and if you’re feeling down it’s the sort of dress that will cheer you up.

Which of these outfits do you prefer for a girls night out?

Celebrity Style Steal: Olivia Palermo’s Stripes

American IT girl Olivia Palermo barely puts a foot wrong when it comes to fashion. Have you ever seen her look anything less than fabulous? Her special talent is that she always puts pieces together to flatter her figure and she creates a smart but effortlessly cool look. This makes her a role model and style icon for modern women who want to look formal without looking fussy.

If you look at Olivia’s Instagram, you’ll notice she’s been wearing a lot of striped looks recently. She’s worn stripes to lounge on a yacht at play and she’s worn them to work and mingle at an art gallery.

When Olivia wears something, it’s only a matter of time before it’s copied. To help you do that before anyone else, here are some ideas about how to copy the striped style.

The Leisure Look

When the model and TV presenter lets her hair down, she does it in style with a yacht trip. Whether you’re out at sea or you have an active day, you want an outfit that you feel comfortable in that’s still flattering and on-trend. Olivia looks just that in her striped top and shorts. The top reminds me of the V by Very stripe textured top and looks great with V by Very linen shorts. For the ultimate in undone chic, finish with some brown sunglasses like the Vogue cats-eye sunglasses.

The Evening Look

Olivia never overdresses and part of the reason why she always looks so cool is that she looks smarter in jeans and a blazer than most people do in a dress. This is because she picks really flattering items. The stripe blazer, which is like the V by Very printed jersey blazer, falls at just below the hips to lengthen and lean out your legs and thighs. It looks especially sleek with super skinny jeans like the V by Very Addison high waisted super skinny jeans. The striped blazer is the outfit’s statement item so it’s best to wear a plain white blouse with it like the V by Very oversized mixed cotton shirt. This outfit screams smart, sophisticated and soooo in control of life!

Which of Olivia’s striped looks did you like the most?

Celebrity Style Steal: Mollie King’s Solo Style

Singer Mollie King has broken away from The Saturdays, she’s ditched her on-off model boyfriend David Gandy and now she’s launching her own solo music career. Talk about having a lot on her plate!

Not only is she busy, but she’s doing it on her own, putting her desire to be a successful singer first. She’s living proof that if you want something bad enough then you need to put in the hard work to go out and get it. But despite all this, she looks incredible! With her job, image is everything and she has to look put together even when she’s not feeling it. The key to doing that is to have some staple items in your wardrobe that you feel fabulous in, so when you’re short of time you can grab something and feel confident that it suits you.

In honour of Mollie’s new album release, which she hopes to get in the top three when it’s out next month, let’s have a look at three of her best recent looks  – one work, one evening and one party look. You’ll see she has a lot of classic pieces and there aren’t many bold prints because she can mix and match the colour block items more easily.

Day Outfit

Mollie looked cool and in control during an interview with Radio 1 (above centre) to promote her single Back To You. Black denim shorts go with most things and when you wear them with heels, it gives you a bit of extra attitude. The V by Very Blake boyfriend denim shorts are similar to Mollie’s and look stunning with the V by Very Pearl real suede ankle boots. To make the look more interesting, Mollie’s added a plain grey t-shirt like the V by Very perfect scoop neck t-shirt. Finish the look with the V by Very sleeveless tux waistcoat.

Evening outfit

Sometimes you need an outfit that will go from day to night that you can wear straight from work to early evening drinks. It should be something that’s sophisticated enough for daytime use, but also has a playful vibe. Texture helps with that so instead of ordinary black trousers, try the V by Very PU biker trousers  with a V by Very double breasted trench coat. Contrasting material also gives a dressed-up vibe, and the silky feel of the River Island strappy cami is gorgeous. The V by Very panelled clutch bag is a good size for your make-up, phone, keys and purse and a pen and paper – what more do you need?

Party outfit

When Mollie’s out, she goes all out and looked stunning in a one shoulder black dress on a recent night out. It really reminds me of the V by Very one shoulder ruffle dress. Notice that she also has a beautiful bag and hot shoes. They’re like the V by Very panelled clutch bag and shoes like the Ted Baker Saviy high black court shoes.

Which of Mollie’s looks do you like the most?

Strictly Come Dancing: Launch Party Fashion Inspiration

Strictly Come Dancing is one of the things that makes the transition from summer to autumn and winter a little bit more bearable. The weather may not be as warm and the nights are getting darker earlier, but our TV screens are alight with glitter and sequins and celebrities doing something they’re not naturally good at. It’s kind of refreshing to see celebs out of their comfort zones!

And of course, it’s fun to look at what they’re wearing as there is always so much colour. We may not have access to so much sparkle, but we can definitely copy the colour. Let’s have a look at what the female contestants and presenters wore to the launch party ahead of the show’s start on Saturday 3 September.

Laura Whitmore

Laura dazzled in a yellow dress and we’ve seen a lot of celebrities wearing yellow recently to parties – it definitely gets people noticed. It’s also great if you’ve managed to get a bit of a tan this summer as it gives you a really golden glow so you feel bright and upbeat even when it’s no longer sunny.

Daisy Lowe

Daisy looked stunning in a red midi dress, which showed off all of her curves. It’s more revealing than most dresses but a bodycon dress always shows that you’re ready to party. Bodycon dresses are flattering as they hold you in all the right places and that makes you feel fantastic.

Naga Munchetty

Naga also went for a red dress, showing that red is bold and beautiful. She seems quite a shy and serious character on BBC Breakfast TV, but she’s completely changed in this dress, sometimes wearing something bold and daring can give you more confidence.

The singer is one of the hot favourites to win Strictly Come Dancing because of her musical experience and she certainly looks good in her outfit. A blue dress with long sleeves makes it seem as if you’re trying less hard than a red dress but it still look sensational. Blue also works really well with gold.

Tameka Empson

Comedian Tameka opted for a predominantly mint green dress, which looked stunning in the lights. Green is a hard colour to wear but if you’re willing to take a risk it will get you noticed for being different and people will wish they were more adventurous!

Louise Redknapp

Louise is a former pop star with Eternal, so she knows how to move. She could do really well! She channeled her girly side in a pink maxi dress, looking pretty and feminine. What do you think?

Claudia Fragapane

Claudia’s a former British gymnast so she must have rhythm, but has she got the  hip-swinging Latin vibes as gymnastics can be rigidly choreographed? Wearing a dress with tassels will help get her in the mood. It’s amazing how wearing clothes can affect our morale and fire us up for new challenges.

Zoe Ball

As the host of the Strictly spin-off show on BBC 2, Zoe doesn’t have to go near the dancefloor so she showed she meant business as a presenter with smart black trousers and a pretty green blouse. This is a lovely look for work, don’t you think?

Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly

Claudia and Tess are a bit of a double act so when Tess went for a dark blue maxi dress, Claudia had to be the yin to her yang in a bright pink maxi dress. They always complement each other well – I can’t wait to see their fun chemistry when the series starts again.

Are you excited about Strictly starting again? Who do you think will win?

MTV VMA Awards 2016: All The Best Bits

The MTV VMA awards are always dramatic. It was the event when Kanye West crashed Taylor Swift’s awards acceptance because he thought Beyonce should have won, it was the event where Britney Spears cavorted with a live snake and it was the event to which Lady Gaga wore a dress made out of raw meat. This year’s awards had a lot to live up to!

As Kanye West was at the 2016 awards, he did his best to create drama. And there were lots of bold and beautiful outfits from the performers and nominees. The VMAs are always their chance to shine and put on a show with what they wear as well as with their music. It’s a great example of stars taking risks with fashion and usually pulling it off, which we can use as inspiration if we’re bored of following the crowds and want to set trends.

Let’s have a look at the best moments in terms of fashion and drama:

(1) Rihanna

Rihanna kicked off the opening moments of the 2016 MTV VMAs with a career-spanning medley. She did Don’t Stop the Music, Only Girl, We Found Love, and Where Have You Been. It didn’t stop there—she performed three more as the night went on. She followed up the opening performance with Rude Boy, What’s My Name, and Work later in the night. Then, she did Needed Me, Pour It Up, and Bitch Better Have My Money. For her final performance, she sang Stay, Diamonds, and Love on the Brain. That’s 13 songs! Unlucky for some? Not for Rihanna! She won the Music Video Vanguard award, which is essentially the Lifetime Achievement Award, looking every inch the winner in a gold dress.

(2) Kanye West and Kim Kardashian-West

Kanye was given four minutes to talk before presenting the video for his new single Fade and he covered a variety of subjects including Beyonce, how much he loved his wife Kim Kardashian (calling her a G), and boastfully said he thought he had left as much a legacy as Steve Jobs, Henry Truman and Harry Ford. Everyone was on the edge of their seat for him to say something truly controversial….but he didn’t. The suspense of waiting to see what he would do was more exciting than his actual speech – what do you think? And what do you think of Kim’s black mini dress?

(3) Beyonce

Bootylicious Beyonce looked sensational as she stole the stage – quite literally. She had 15 minutes to perform a mini-concert, inspired by her album Lemonade that was nominated for no less than 11 awards and won a record-breaking 8. She writhed around in black lace for the reggae bouncer Hold Up, and was even handed a baseball bat to smash up a camera the way she does in the film. Beyoncé ran through her flippant kiss-off  Sorry before tossing on a fur coat and strutting across the arena to her rollicking Don’t Hurt Yourself, without barely catching a breath. She’s a true star and she looked like one in her arrivals dress – a silver maxi dress with lots of diamonds.

(4) Britney Spears

Britney used to be Queen of the Crop Tops but she looked sophisticated in a one-shoulder black dress. She later swapped that for a lime green leotard and over-the-knee boots to perform Make Me with G-Eazy. However, social media wasn’t overly impressed with many questioning if she was lip-syncing. At least she had the last laugh as the black dress really suits her.

(5) Nicki Minaj

Nicki looked sensational in a floor-length blue maxi dress that showed off her gravity-defying curves. She swapped that for one of her classic baby pink outfits when she went on stage to perform with Ariana Grande but the blue look suited her the most. If you want to look feminine and fabulous – a maxi dress will do it.

(6) Amber Rose

Kanye West shouted out to his ex Amber Rose, during his speech but she didn’t seem at all impressed. It can’t have been easy seeing Kim and Kanye so happy, but you can’t look sad in showbiz. Her solution was to power dress in a suit and use sunglasses to cover her face so she looked composed, even if she didn’t feel it.

(7) Rita Ora

Now she’s a judge on America’s Next Top Model, Rita can’t look ordinary and she certainly looked extraordinary in a black dress over black shorts. What really gave her confidence and attitude was the black platform shoes though – when you walk tall, you can hold your head up high as you feel like you’re on top of the world, quite literally.

(8) Ariana Grande

She may be petite but she looked powerful in black high-waist trousers. Her brother Frankie Grande may have come fifth in Celebrity Big Brother, but she was one of the stars of the MTV VMAs as she performed with Nicki Minaj and looked absolutely stunning.

(9) Tinashe

The Player singer looked red hot in one of my favourite looks of the night – a red jumpsuit. It reminds me of the Coast Raisa jumpsuit from Very with its gorgeous scarlet colour and it meant that everyone noticed her. The shape is really flattering so it guarantees outfit envy, wherever it’s worn.

(10) Fifth Harmony

Normandi Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen, Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello and Lauren Jauregui all wore similar cut-out black party dresses, showing that there are multiple ways to wear a black dress and look fabulous. The cut-out shapes give passers-by something to look at as it’s flashing the flesh in a subtle way, which is more sophisticated.

What was your favourite part of the MTV VMAs 2016?
