Three cheers for Corinne Bailey Rae, who showed she was back and better than ever as she played not one but two packed festival fields.
The singer, who burst to fame in 2006 with the cheery song Put Your Records On, played more grown up, soulful tunes to audiences at both the Glastonbury and Hard Rock Calling festivals.
The tunes were from her latest album The Sea, which was released in February – her first work since the tragic death of her husband from an accidental drug overdose.
And the blues singer admitted the audience didn’t seem to know the music, as after her Glastonbury gig she confessed: “It was great fun to be able to play my new record, which felt like a lot of people in the audience hadn’t heard before. So it was really amazing.
“It was an amazing audience and people were arriving all the way through the set and by the end of it – I’m not very good with big numbers but there was tons and tons of people out there watching the gig. I loved it!”
The next day she was still smiling as she put on a killer catsuit to play the guitar during her set in London’s Hyde Park for the Hard Rock Calling festival.
After her solo tunes, she did a duet with Jay Kay from Jamiroquai which had the audience dancing like crazy and begging for more.
If you’re begging to find out how to dress like her then Very has a selection of black catsuits:
If you want something classic, with wide straps then try a South shirred black jumpsuit
Or for a cool, fresh shape try a South one shoulder jumpsuit – new in!
If you’re feeling adventurous then try a Teatro bustier hareem trouser all-in-one, which shows off your shoulders and cinches in your waist.
Corinne’s next playing at T in The Park, then she has gigs in Paris and Belgium before the Latitude festival on 17 July.
In August she’s got a run of international gigs from diverse places like Korea to commercial markets in Las Vegas.
What an inspiration!
