Red is a colour we are going to be seeing a lot of this season. Celebs have already been donning it on the red carpet and it has filtered through to the high street.
Whether you prefer scarlet, crimson or pillar box red there is a shade to suit everyone and anything goes from a splash of red to head-to-toe colour. Red complements the animal print trend and works superbly with neutral colours especially the currently popular camel.
Lips and nails are going red too.
For lips you need a flawless complexion for the perfect red pout otherwise any redness, shadows or blemishes will be emphasised.
Select a shade of red that suits your complexion.
For a fair complexion blue-based red works best, whilst warm, browny reds look best on medium to dark complexions. Olive skin tones should opt for brick red or soft orange-toned red.
Quick Tip – Sip your drinks through a straw to limit any colour transfer but only if you’re drinking a suitable beverage – a straw in a glass of wine will just make you look odd.
Go as dark as you dare to work the gothic trend or team a crimson red for a ladylike look. But whatever your chosen shade keep nails short and square – talons are just scary – and at the first sign of chipping, take it off! It is high maintenance but the result is worth it. Nails Inc have some great shades
Quick Tip – I always used to shake my bottles of nail varnish until I learnt that this only fills it with air bubbles. Roll it between your palms instead.
My mum used to have a saying when I was little ‘red shoes, no knickers’. I was horrified! She had bought me a pair of red Clarks t-bar school shoes – did people believe I’d been wandering around the playground without any knick-knacks on?! I certainly hoped not. Years later I was reminded of the saying when my new boss commented on my footwear, ‘Um red shoes’ he said. He didn’t think?… he couldn’t. Could he?
