Winter Warmers: a pick of the best coats

When I put on my full set of winter warmers this morning (hat, gloves, scarf and big coat), it confirmed with zeal that autumn is here and winter is just around the corner.

It’s easy to feel glum about the nights drawing in sooner and the bitter air causing a chill but the key is to find beauty in it all.  The trees may be bare but that means there’s more leaves to crunch beneath your fashionably clad feet.  It may be cold outside but that means hot cups of cocoa in front of a roaring fire and close cuddles with your other half.

OK, so I’m an eternal optimist but there is something else I know you’ll love about winter – the stunning coats we get to wear!  I’ve picked some of the top trends for coats this season so you can wrap up warm in style…

Yes, Sir!

Military is a trend that returns each year but 2010 glams it up with luxury detailing such as faux fur collars and shiny oversized brass buttons.  This Firetrap military coat,£180.00 funks up your outfit with a utilitarian flavour but is softened with faux fur collars whilst the belted waist cinches you in to accentuate your curves for added femininity.

Biker Groove

The Biker jacket usually comes in leather and is a versatile style suitable for anyone.  They look fabulous worn with pretty dresses, coloured tight, sheer fabrics and frills to bring a little edgy attitude to an otherwise romantic trend.  I love the South PU Bomber

Return of the Mac

A classic mac is somewhat an investment piece thanks to its eternal in vogue status and the that you can wear it to the office or party.  To bring it bang up to date, choose a colour popping shade like this South cotton staeen mac, from £29.00 in pillar box red.

We have lift off

The Aviator jacket is the must-buy that will instantly update your outfit.  The leather finish and over-sized faux fur collars and lining merge practicality and style keeping you at the top of your fashion game (and cosily warm).

It’s faux you

Faux fur is the choice for glamour girls.  With a nod to vintage and old school allure, wear your chunky furs with tea dresses and court shoes or cigarette trousers to show off slim legs peeping out from the voluminous coat.  Combining luxe fabrics looks wonderful and feels just as good too so combine leather, lace, silk and velvet with your faux fur coat.  I adore the South faux fur coat, a snip at £65.00.
