This New Year, we have made a pledge: No more will the house be full of clutter, never again will we have to step over objects strewn across the floor, for the last time we have wasted time looking for that elusive garment that has been hidden away in some deep, dark corner of the house.
We have been looking through the home to find any sources of unnecessary clutter and untidiness and, as much as we hate to say it, we’re fed up of constantly tripping over shoes. Whilst, of course, you can never have too many shoes (and by no means are we Imelda Marcos), we definitely need some way of making sure that they’re out of the way when we don’t need them and easy to find when we do.
Whether they are strewn in the porch, down the side of the sofa or tossed into the bottom of a wardrobe, shoes, slippers and any other kind of footwear has a habit of ending up anywhere and everywhere around the house. Thanks to Very.co.uk however, there are a number of stylish and ingenious ways to solve the problem. What’s more, solving the problem doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
For example, this versatile high gloss black shoe storage cabinet features three separate compartments, each of which is capable of holding up to six pairs of adult sized shoes – that’s eighteen pairs all brought into one compact compartment!
This unit will look excellent in almost any home, with a classy black gloss finish, and at only £20, taking charge of your clutter isn’t going to be an expensive chore.
Another alternative is this oak flexible shoe storage cabinet, which also offers plenty of versatility. A single unit can handle six pairs of adult sized shoes or trainers but, as your shoe collection grows, you can add to this cabinet with additional ‘stackable’ shoe cabinets. That means that you can simply add to this cabinet as and when you need to.
Finally, we take a look at the Ideal Over-the-Door Shoe Holder, which is ideal if you are planning on storing your shoes and other clutter in an airing cupboard or other “out of the way” place.
This sturdy rack clips neatly over a door and has space for up to 18 pairs of shoes of varying sizes. It is easy to assemble, clips easily onto almost any door and effectively maximises the space available in your home. At £13, it is also excellent value.
That’s stage one on our war on clutter, starting with stray shoes. We’ll be continuing our New Year’s resolution later on to see what more we can tidy up in 2011.
