Swinging 60’s style in Brighton Rock film adaptation

I find it rather helpful when they make classic books into movies, that way it’s much easier to be more widely read without using up all of your time.  But anyway….

The latest movie to satisfy this is Brighton Rock, adapted from Graham Green’s brilliant 1939 novel of the same name.

Set in Brighton (surprise!) it tells the dark tale of  Pinkie’s relationship with the seemingly sweet waitress Rose, and his desperate need for her to keep a deadly secret. It’s due to hit the big screen 04.02.11.

The movie stars film royalty Helen Mirren and the Oscar-tipped (beautiful) Geordie actress Andrea Riseborough.

From the film’s styling you can expect a lot of swinging style as unlike teh novel (and original film adaption), this version of Brighton Rock has been transposed from the 30’s to the 60’s.

Set on the seafront the main characters are usually running around in swing and belted coats – just perfect for replicating during this weird Janauary weather.

These are just a few of my current Very favorites:

I love the puff shoulders and intricate fabric almost as much as I love the collar on this coat.

This swing coat will look great over jeans (not very 1960’s ladies, granted) and is also available in red.

And if your man fancies chanelling Pinkie’s mod styling, there’s no place better to start than Fred Perry. This shirt and tie combo is spot on for the Sussex hoodlum in your life (hopefully not) or check out all of our Fred Perry here.

CoincidentlyI have read, and strongly recommend, the book. Did you know Very.co.uk will soon be stocking books?!
